0:00:02 > 0:00:06It's a brand new term and CBBC has sent these magicians back to school.
0:00:06 > 0:00:09They're pretending to be supply teachers
0:00:09 > 0:00:14so that they can perform amazing magic on unsuspecting classes
0:00:14 > 0:00:16but because you know and love them
0:00:16 > 0:00:18this time we've cunningly disguised them...
0:00:22 > 0:00:25..then we hid secret cameras all over classrooms
0:00:25 > 0:00:28and watched as they taught spectacular lessons.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31Went flying around, like a magic saucer.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33CHILDREN GASPING
0:00:33 > 0:00:35That was sick!
0:00:35 > 0:00:39It's more magic, it's more outrageous...
0:00:39 > 0:00:40I was just flabbergasted.
0:00:40 > 0:00:43..but how long will it take before the classes shout...
0:00:49 > 0:00:53Hello, it's me, Iain, and we're back to school for a new term.
0:00:53 > 0:00:57It's Help! My Supply Teacher Is Still Magic.
0:00:57 > 0:00:59You could even say it's...
0:00:59 > 0:01:02Help! My Supply Teacher is Magic Two: Two Become Wand.
0:01:02 > 0:01:06Once again we've swapped regular teachers with magicians
0:01:06 > 0:01:09and, because you know them, we've disguised them.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11We've filmed the results with special cameras
0:01:11 > 0:01:12hidden in the classrooms.
0:01:12 > 0:01:16Oh, yes, we're slicker than an oil slick on an ice rink.
0:01:16 > 0:01:18We're also showing you loads of other great tricks,
0:01:18 > 0:01:19tricks like this -
0:01:19 > 0:01:22I've been practising since the last series,
0:01:22 > 0:01:23it's my rabbit in a hat trick.
0:01:23 > 0:01:25Oh, yeah, here we go...
0:01:27 > 0:01:30Oh, rabbit's gone.
0:01:30 > 0:01:32He didn't even eat his dinner.
0:01:32 > 0:01:33Just play the clips.
0:01:35 > 0:01:36Coming up...
0:01:36 > 0:01:38John's undercover in the classroom
0:01:38 > 0:01:42with a trick using blocks that will knock off their socks.
0:01:42 > 0:01:46From a deck of cards, you're going to need four aces, four kings,
0:01:46 > 0:01:48four queens and four jacks
0:01:48 > 0:01:51to play along with Fergus' interactive illusion.
0:01:51 > 0:01:55Plus you've been sending in clips of all your best magic tricks
0:01:55 > 0:01:58and later on, I'll be picking my favourite.
0:01:58 > 0:02:01Who's hotter than Harry Potter? It's the Wannabe Wizards.
0:02:01 > 0:02:02But first...
0:02:02 > 0:02:06Do you think you'd be able to tell if your teacher started doing magic?
0:02:06 > 0:02:07Do you?
0:02:09 > 0:02:10This is John.
0:02:10 > 0:02:14He's an uber-confident magician and a super convincing teacher.
0:02:14 > 0:02:17Wheel him in, the disguise is on.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20Enter year four. They don't know it yet
0:02:20 > 0:02:23but John's about to give them an incredible lesson about memory
0:02:23 > 0:02:26that they will never forget.
0:02:26 > 0:02:27What was I saying?
0:02:27 > 0:02:30Oh, yeah, none of them have noticed the hidden cameras
0:02:30 > 0:02:32or recognised John in his disguise.
0:02:32 > 0:02:36Can he keep it up or will they remember him from the first series?
0:02:36 > 0:02:38It's great to be here and I'm glad to teach you.
0:02:38 > 0:02:40I'm going to teach you about memory.
0:02:40 > 0:02:43One of the big problems we have with memory
0:02:43 > 0:02:44is that we get distracted
0:02:44 > 0:02:47and I'm going to try and show you how, by being distracted,
0:02:47 > 0:02:49it can affect our memory.
0:02:49 > 0:02:52So I'm going to test your memory using these numbered blocks.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54We've got the numbers one, two, three and four.
0:02:54 > 0:02:57Now, all I need you to do is to remember the order of the blocks.
0:02:57 > 0:02:59Sounds easy, right?
0:02:59 > 0:03:03Don't forget John's a magician - there may be a trick involved.
0:03:03 > 0:03:07So if I cover them up and say, "What is the order of the blocks?"
0:03:07 > 0:03:09- you'd be able to tell me, yes? - One, two, three, four.
0:03:09 > 0:03:11- And which number's at the top? - One.- Number one.
0:03:11 > 0:03:13- Which number's at the bottom?- Four.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15Excellent! Very good. So, we're going to try that.
0:03:15 > 0:03:18I'm going to mix them up a little bit, I'll still keep it simple
0:03:18 > 0:03:21and all I need you to do is to remember what the order is...
0:03:21 > 0:03:23The order is four at the top, one at the bottom.
0:03:23 > 0:03:25..but this time I'm going to try and distract you.
0:03:25 > 0:03:28So, remember what number's at the bottom,
0:03:28 > 0:03:30what number's at the top.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33I've got a couple of questions. Who can tell me what six times three is?
0:03:33 > 0:03:35- Yes?- 18.
0:03:35 > 0:03:3618, very, very good.
0:03:36 > 0:03:39John's trying to distract the class with other maths.
0:03:39 > 0:03:42I still remember the order - four at the top, one at the bottom.
0:03:42 > 0:03:46But who can tell me what 12 times two is? Yes?
0:03:46 > 0:03:48- 24.- 24 well done.
0:03:48 > 0:03:52Now, who can remember the order of the blocks? Yes?
0:03:52 > 0:03:55- Four, three, two, one. - So what number's at the top?
0:03:55 > 0:03:58- Four.- And what number's at the bottom?- One.
0:03:58 > 0:04:01Number one. Who thinks that's right?
0:04:01 > 0:04:03Excellent. Put your hands down.
0:04:03 > 0:04:04You see what happened,
0:04:04 > 0:04:06you all thought that number one was at the bottom
0:04:06 > 0:04:08and number four was at the top
0:04:08 > 0:04:09but actually, you're all wrong,
0:04:09 > 0:04:12you see, number ONE is at the top
0:04:12 > 0:04:13and number four is at the bottom.
0:04:13 > 0:04:15He can't believe it!
0:04:15 > 0:04:17I can't believe it - this must be magic.
0:04:17 > 0:04:18What happened is, you got distracted.
0:04:18 > 0:04:21This time I want you to remember something very, very simple.
0:04:21 > 0:04:24Look, I'm just going to turn some of these blocks,
0:04:24 > 0:04:26there's nothing else in here,
0:04:26 > 0:04:31I'm just going to turn the even numbers round the wrong way.
0:04:31 > 0:04:34OK, so he's got the odd numbers, one and three, at the front.
0:04:34 > 0:04:37I'm going to cover the blocks up
0:04:37 > 0:04:40and all I want you to do is to remember
0:04:40 > 0:04:43which numbers are facing the front.
0:04:43 > 0:04:46Who can tell me if 75 is an even or an odd number?
0:04:46 > 0:04:49- Yes?- Odd. - It's an odd number, very good.
0:04:49 > 0:04:52Here's the next question, what numbers are facing the front?
0:04:52 > 0:04:55Odd numbers or even numbers?
0:04:55 > 0:04:57- Odd.- Odd! Watch.
0:04:57 > 0:05:01Actually the numbers facing the front are the even numbers.
0:05:01 > 0:05:05They can't believe it. It's an odd trick.
0:05:05 > 0:05:07The class weren't distracted, they did remember
0:05:07 > 0:05:10but John's fooling them with some freaky magic.
0:05:10 > 0:05:12A good way to remember things is to write things down.
0:05:12 > 0:05:15So what we're going to do is write the numbers on the tube
0:05:15 > 0:05:16so we can't forget them
0:05:16 > 0:05:19and you're going to decide the order you want the numbers in.
0:05:19 > 0:05:21So, what number do you think should be at the bottom?
0:05:21 > 0:05:23Four.
0:05:23 > 0:05:26Number four, excellent, we'll put number four on the bottom
0:05:26 > 0:05:29and, let me see, this boy, what number do you think we should have?
0:05:29 > 0:05:31- We can't have four, we can have one, two or three?- One.
0:05:31 > 0:05:33Number one you think should go there.
0:05:33 > 0:05:35The class are choosing the numbers,
0:05:35 > 0:05:39- surely there's no way that John can bamboozle them now?- Three.
0:05:39 > 0:05:42Three. Brilliant, number three there, which means the last number...
0:05:42 > 0:05:46See the order written on the box - two, three, one, then four.
0:05:46 > 0:05:48Now, once we have that written down,
0:05:48 > 0:05:52it makes it really easy for us to remember the order of the numbers
0:05:52 > 0:05:56because all we have to do is put the numbers in exactly the same order
0:05:56 > 0:05:57that they are on the tube...
0:05:57 > 0:05:59Hang on, that is not the same order.
0:05:59 > 0:06:01Does that make sense?
0:06:01 > 0:06:03- It's not the same. - It's not the same?
0:06:03 > 0:06:05No, they are, cos that's what we wrote on here.
0:06:05 > 0:06:07You chose four, one, three, two.
0:06:07 > 0:06:09That's what you chose
0:06:09 > 0:06:11and look, the cubes are actually in the order that you chose -
0:06:11 > 0:06:14four, one, three, two.
0:06:14 > 0:06:17John's caught them out - how did he do that?
0:06:17 > 0:06:19Other than being an amazing magician, of course.
0:06:19 > 0:06:21It's a memory system.
0:06:21 > 0:06:24Oh, hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on, whoa, whoa -
0:06:24 > 0:06:26I forgot to tell you something, I forgot to tell you something.
0:06:26 > 0:06:29John's remembered an important detail.
0:06:29 > 0:06:31He's about to let them in on his secret.
0:06:31 > 0:06:35I should've told you this earlier. I'm not really a teacher.
0:06:35 > 0:06:39I'm actually a magician and you've been set up by your teachers,
0:06:39 > 0:06:42and your parents, and your family to be on a CBBC show called
0:06:42 > 0:06:43Help! My Supply Teacher is Magic,
0:06:43 > 0:06:46and there's cameras here, and there's cameras there,
0:06:46 > 0:06:47and there's cameras over here.
0:06:49 > 0:06:52John's memory magic was unforgettable
0:06:52 > 0:06:55but what impression did it make on the class?
0:06:55 > 0:06:58I thought that was amazing.
0:06:58 > 0:07:02- He confused our minds a bit didn't he, Tyrell?- Yeah.
0:07:02 > 0:07:05- I'm going to distract you... - No wonder they're confused -
0:07:05 > 0:07:08John covered the numbers and they magically changed their order.
0:07:08 > 0:07:11Actually, number one is at the top.
0:07:11 > 0:07:14I was, like, this isn't possible,
0:07:14 > 0:07:17I am sure that was one, two, three, four,
0:07:17 > 0:07:19not four, three, two, one.
0:07:19 > 0:07:22When John made the odd numbers swap to evens,
0:07:22 > 0:07:24the class were even more bamboozled.
0:07:24 > 0:07:28The numbers facing the front are the even numbers.
0:07:28 > 0:07:32I thought he was actually right and we were wrong
0:07:32 > 0:07:37but then I started to get, realise, that we were right
0:07:37 > 0:07:40and he'd just changed it around.
0:07:40 > 0:07:44That's a skill of master maths magician, my learned friend.
0:07:44 > 0:07:48And look, the cubes are actually in the order that you chose -
0:07:48 > 0:07:50four, one, three, two.
0:07:50 > 0:07:52It blew my mind!
0:07:54 > 0:07:55A mind-blowing trick indeed
0:07:55 > 0:07:59and the class had no idea John was a magician.
0:07:59 > 0:08:02How long would it take for you to shout...
0:08:10 > 0:08:12Later on, you'll see what happened
0:08:12 > 0:08:15when James went undercover at another school.
0:08:15 > 0:08:19He's got a trick that will take your brain to another dimension.
0:08:19 > 0:08:23Now, pay attention. Katherine's Up Close And Magical.
0:08:23 > 0:08:26I'm going to show you something really cool
0:08:26 > 0:08:28with these six playing cards.
0:08:28 > 0:08:31We've got three black ones, all being the ace of clubs,
0:08:31 > 0:08:36and we've got three red ones, all being the seven of hearts.
0:08:36 > 0:08:38Three red cards, three black cards.
0:08:38 > 0:08:41Now, Adam, if you could hold your hands out flat for me
0:08:41 > 0:08:44like a table, that's perfect but both together, that's great.
0:08:44 > 0:08:48What I'm going to do is I'm going to mix these red and black cards
0:08:48 > 0:08:49so the colours alternate.
0:08:49 > 0:08:53So we're going to put one red one down,
0:08:53 > 0:08:56one black one, one red one...
0:08:56 > 0:08:59Katherine's alternating between the red and black cards.
0:08:59 > 0:09:01One red one and one black one,
0:09:01 > 0:09:03so the colours are all completely mixed
0:09:03 > 0:09:07- and that was fair, wasn't it? - Yeah.- That was completely fair.
0:09:07 > 0:09:09But if you listen really carefully,
0:09:09 > 0:09:12I don't know if you can hear this, can you hear that?
0:09:12 > 0:09:14It's very slight, a little sound,
0:09:14 > 0:09:17that's the sound of the cards all moving and separating back
0:09:17 > 0:09:21into all red and all black.
0:09:21 > 0:09:24Yep, you heard, they've all separated back to red and black.
0:09:24 > 0:09:26Good trick.
0:09:26 > 0:09:28Adam, if you hold your hands out, again, for me.
0:09:28 > 0:09:31We're going to do it again. So, we're going to do one red card...
0:09:31 > 0:09:34See if they can work it out this time.
0:09:34 > 0:09:35..one black card.
0:09:35 > 0:09:37One red card...
0:09:38 > 0:09:40..one black card,
0:09:40 > 0:09:43one red card and one black card
0:09:43 > 0:09:46so the colours are all fairly mixed up together, agreed?
0:09:46 > 0:09:50Completely fair, but if you listen,
0:09:50 > 0:09:52can you hear that sound? It's very, very slight.
0:09:52 > 0:09:55That's again the cards moving and separating back
0:09:55 > 0:09:58into all red, and all black.
0:09:58 > 0:09:59Katherine's done it again.
0:09:59 > 0:10:02I tell you what, I'm going to try and make it even fairer this time.
0:10:02 > 0:10:05Adam, what I'd like you to do is to hold your hands out again for me.
0:10:05 > 0:10:07Now this time, to make it fairer,
0:10:07 > 0:10:09I think I should do it with the cards face up.
0:10:09 > 0:10:12You all think that'll be fair, right? Yeah?
0:10:12 > 0:10:13So one red card.
0:10:13 > 0:10:15I'm not taking my eyes off those cards.
0:10:15 > 0:10:17One black card.
0:10:17 > 0:10:19We've got one red card...
0:10:21 > 0:10:22..one black card,
0:10:22 > 0:10:26one red card and a final black card.
0:10:26 > 0:10:28Square them up together.
0:10:29 > 0:10:32And, if you listen, you can hear them snap back
0:10:32 > 0:10:36to going all black and all red.
0:10:36 > 0:10:38- That's pretty cool, isn't it?- Yes.
0:10:38 > 0:10:41She's only gone and done it a third time
0:10:41 > 0:10:43and they still couldn't catch her red-handed.
0:10:43 > 0:10:47- Astonishing.- Yeah, that trick was amazing, it was unbelievable.
0:10:47 > 0:10:49You can't say nothing about it, it's in your head
0:10:49 > 0:10:52and it's physically impossible, you just can't see it happening.
0:10:52 > 0:10:54So when you see it, you're speechless.
0:10:54 > 0:10:57Great trick and now you can learn your own with James
0:10:57 > 0:10:59and Tricks Of The Trade.
0:10:59 > 0:11:01If you fancy yourself as a magician,
0:11:01 > 0:11:04here's a trick you can try on your mates.
0:11:04 > 0:11:05James has got a penny - nice.
0:11:05 > 0:11:07And...and a... Where is it?
0:11:07 > 0:11:09Oh, a banknote.
0:11:09 > 0:11:11James is going to show you how to balance a penny
0:11:11 > 0:11:14on the edge of a flat banknote.
0:11:14 > 0:11:17Can you work out how to do it?
0:11:17 > 0:11:19Keep watching and you'll find out later in the show.
0:11:19 > 0:11:21It's going to be great.
0:11:22 > 0:11:25Right now, we have something amazing for you.
0:11:25 > 0:11:27Have you got your deck of cards ready?
0:11:27 > 0:11:29This is the Interactive Illusion.
0:11:29 > 0:11:32This is a trick where you can take part at home.
0:11:32 > 0:11:35So come on, you'll need to pay close attention.
0:11:35 > 0:11:38So get up nice and close to the telly. Yeah, and you.
0:11:38 > 0:11:40You as well.
0:11:40 > 0:11:41Hmm, not you.
0:11:42 > 0:11:46Remember, just the four aces, kings, queens and jacks required.
0:11:46 > 0:11:48This trick involves a story
0:11:48 > 0:11:50but before we can tell it,
0:11:50 > 0:11:52you'll need to make sure you have the following -
0:11:52 > 0:11:56four aces, four kings, four queens and four jacks
0:11:56 > 0:11:57from a regular deck of cards.
0:11:57 > 0:12:01These are going to be the characters in our story.
0:12:01 > 0:12:04The aces, kings, queens and jacks
0:12:04 > 0:12:07were all pupils at the same school.
0:12:07 > 0:12:09In fact, they were in the same class.
0:12:09 > 0:12:12The aces arrived together
0:12:12 > 0:12:14as they were best friends,
0:12:14 > 0:12:16but they were made to sit at different tables.
0:12:16 > 0:12:21Lay the aces out in a square formation. Fantastic.
0:12:21 > 0:12:26Next the kings arrived and they had to sit at different tables.
0:12:26 > 0:12:31Place a king on top of each ace.
0:12:31 > 0:12:33Then the queens arrived
0:12:33 > 0:12:35and guess what?
0:12:35 > 0:12:38They had to sit at different tables too.
0:12:38 > 0:12:43Place a queen on top of each king.
0:12:43 > 0:12:47The last to arrive were the jacks who, just like the other
0:12:47 > 0:12:51groups of friends, were split up onto different tables.
0:12:51 > 0:12:55Place a jack on top of each queen.
0:12:56 > 0:12:59Now place each packet onto one another.
0:12:59 > 0:13:01It doesn't matter what order you go in,
0:13:01 > 0:13:05scoop them up into your hand.
0:13:05 > 0:13:06Fantastic.
0:13:06 > 0:13:09Now turn this whole packet face down.
0:13:09 > 0:13:12Of course, the friends all wanted to be together
0:13:12 > 0:13:15and not sat at different tables,
0:13:15 > 0:13:19so when the teacher wasn't looking, they decided to move around.
0:13:19 > 0:13:22Cut the packet that's in your hands
0:13:22 > 0:13:25as many times as you like.
0:13:26 > 0:13:32Now deal the cards out into that square formation that we did before.
0:13:32 > 0:13:39What that will do is leave you with four cards in each pile.
0:13:39 > 0:13:41When the teacher turned round...
0:13:42 > 0:13:44..incredibly...
0:13:45 > 0:13:48..all of the kings were sat together,
0:13:48 > 0:13:53all of the queens were sat together...
0:13:54 > 0:13:59..all of the jacks were sat together
0:13:59 > 0:14:01and finally...
0:14:01 > 0:14:05all of the aces were sat together.
0:14:06 > 0:14:07Now turn your cards over.
0:14:07 > 0:14:10They match, don't they? Incredible!
0:14:11 > 0:14:16Next, James has a trick that's crisp and he's Up Close And Magical.
0:14:16 > 0:14:18This is an entertainment trick,
0:14:18 > 0:14:19so just like if you were going to the
0:14:19 > 0:14:21cinema you get to enjoy a snack.
0:14:21 > 0:14:23So I brought some snacks with me for you.
0:14:23 > 0:14:26We've got some corn snacks,
0:14:26 > 0:14:29we've got some fruit and nut,
0:14:29 > 0:14:32we've got fruity bear things,
0:14:32 > 0:14:33we've got peanuts
0:14:33 > 0:14:36and we've got a packet of crisps.
0:14:36 > 0:14:39Which one of these would be your favourite?
0:14:39 > 0:14:40Crisps.
0:14:40 > 0:14:41The crisps? OK, cool, if you take those.
0:14:41 > 0:14:44Don't open them just yet, we'll come back to that later.
0:14:44 > 0:14:47In fact, why don't you take the rest of those? There we go.
0:14:47 > 0:14:49I'm going to need one of you to choose a card,
0:14:49 > 0:14:50so can you do this for me?
0:14:50 > 0:14:53If you hold out your magic finger like this. Excellent.
0:14:53 > 0:14:56And if you just touch the back of any one of the cards, that would be good.
0:14:56 > 0:14:58Just touch the back of any one. Which one?
0:14:58 > 0:15:00This one? OK, cool.
0:15:00 > 0:15:02If you take that.
0:15:02 > 0:15:05Take it and show the cameras, that'd be good.
0:15:05 > 0:15:07Got that? It's the seven of clubs.
0:15:07 > 0:15:09OK, and if we take that
0:15:09 > 0:15:12and we're just going to mark this in a very special way.
0:15:12 > 0:15:16See, what we're going to do is we're going to tear a corner off.
0:15:16 > 0:15:19In fact, you can tear that last bit yourself, if you'd like.
0:15:19 > 0:15:22So think of that like a receipt, OK?
0:15:22 > 0:15:24So the next time you see this card,
0:15:24 > 0:15:25you know that the corner
0:15:25 > 0:15:26is missing and you've got a corner.
0:15:26 > 0:15:28This is where the skill comes in.
0:15:28 > 0:15:29See, I'm going to cut your card
0:15:29 > 0:15:31into the deck like this.
0:15:31 > 0:15:33But I've been practising.
0:15:33 > 0:15:34I've been practising a lot lately
0:15:34 > 0:15:37and I can cut to any card I want to.
0:15:37 > 0:15:39So which card was it?
0:15:39 > 0:15:40The seven of clubs. Right.
0:15:40 > 0:15:41Seven of clubs, here we go.
0:15:41 > 0:15:42He's put it in randomly
0:15:42 > 0:15:45and he's going to cut straight to the seven of clubs.
0:15:45 > 0:15:46Here we go, seven of clubs.
0:15:46 > 0:15:50Seven of clubs is around about there.
0:15:50 > 0:15:52Oh, wait.
0:15:52 > 0:15:54No way, how did it get in there?
0:15:54 > 0:15:56That's crisps.
0:15:59 > 0:16:01But if I've got the crisps...
0:16:01 > 0:16:04I haven't touched that packet of crisps, have I?
0:16:04 > 0:16:06You've had that since the beginning?
0:16:06 > 0:16:07Since before you chose the card?
0:16:07 > 0:16:10Do you want to lift it up so everybody can see?
0:16:10 > 0:16:13And just open it up. Can you open that for me?
0:16:13 > 0:16:16Inside the packet of crisps, what is there?
0:16:19 > 0:16:21The seven of clubs. Check the corners match.
0:16:21 > 0:16:24Whoa, it's the ripped seven of clubs!
0:16:24 > 0:16:26But he was holding the bag the whole time!
0:16:26 > 0:16:30The exact same seven of clubs.
0:16:30 > 0:16:32Ridiculous.
0:16:32 > 0:16:34That trick had some serious bite.
0:16:34 > 0:16:36- It's amazing.- Thank you.
0:16:36 > 0:16:37How can that happen?
0:16:37 > 0:16:41When I opened this, it had the same tear that
0:16:41 > 0:16:43she had off the seven of clubs.
0:16:43 > 0:16:44It was in there.
0:16:44 > 0:16:47But this is from, like, the factory that they're made.
0:16:47 > 0:16:50How can he put the card in here?
0:16:51 > 0:16:55Wow, well, the quantity of the magic is exhausting and the quality
0:16:55 > 0:16:59has made my head spin. In fact, it's made me a bit dizzy.
0:17:00 > 0:17:02So I think I've earned a sit down,
0:17:02 > 0:17:05but before I do, let's have a look at what's coming up.
0:17:05 > 0:17:06It's all kinds of ridiculousness.
0:17:06 > 0:17:09James reveals his secret in Tricks Of The Trade.
0:17:09 > 0:17:11Have you worked it out yet?
0:17:11 > 0:17:13Katherine gets Up Close And Magical
0:17:13 > 0:17:16with a trick that turns our minds to sponge.
0:17:16 > 0:17:18Mind-blowing.
0:17:18 > 0:17:21And watch what happens when James goes undercover in another school.
0:17:21 > 0:17:23Will he fool the class?
0:17:23 > 0:17:26Or will they realise their supply teacher is still magic?
0:17:26 > 0:17:28Isn't that amazing?
0:17:28 > 0:17:29Yes.
0:17:31 > 0:17:32Each week I'm bringing you
0:17:32 > 0:17:35another of my new favourite magic movers and shakers
0:17:35 > 0:17:39doing tricks in their own cribs, yards and front rooms.
0:17:39 > 0:17:41We call them the Wannabe Wizards.
0:17:41 > 0:17:43So I've got my comfy chair...
0:17:43 > 0:17:44CLICK, GUNSHOT
0:17:44 > 0:17:46..I've got my computer to watch all the magic on
0:17:46 > 0:17:48and I'm going to watch it with one of my fans.
0:17:50 > 0:17:51Let's do this already.
0:17:51 > 0:17:53FAN WHIRRS
0:17:53 > 0:17:56We asked you to send in clips of yourselves performing
0:17:56 > 0:17:58your best magic tricks.
0:17:58 > 0:18:01We received loads of clips from all over the country.
0:18:01 > 0:18:04Each episode, I'll be choosing a favourite Wannabe Wizard
0:18:04 > 0:18:06and showing them to you guys.
0:18:06 > 0:18:09My Wannabe Wizard this time is Oliver from Leighton Buzzard
0:18:09 > 0:18:11with a trick that will have you buzzing.
0:18:11 > 0:18:13OK, I'd like to show you a card trick.
0:18:13 > 0:18:16We'll start by giving the deck a shuffle like that
0:18:16 > 0:18:18and if you could just cut the deck
0:18:18 > 0:18:20into two piles on the table.
0:18:20 > 0:18:22And we'll use this pile. If you could just give them a mix for me.
0:18:22 > 0:18:25Go on, Mum, give them a good shuffle.
0:18:26 > 0:18:29And just go for any card you like.
0:18:29 > 0:18:32That one? Show it to the camera.
0:18:32 > 0:18:34She's picked the two of spades.
0:18:34 > 0:18:35We'll lose it inside the pack.
0:18:35 > 0:18:38- You can just keep hold of those for the time being.- OK.
0:18:38 > 0:18:39We'll go onto these cards.
0:18:39 > 0:18:42If you could just name a number between one and ten?
0:18:42 > 0:18:44- Five.- So I'll count out five cards.
0:18:44 > 0:18:47One, two, three, four, five.
0:18:47 > 0:18:49And the next card is the three of clubs.
0:18:49 > 0:18:52Now, you could've gone for the seven of hearts,
0:18:52 > 0:18:54you could've gone for the six of spades,
0:18:54 > 0:18:55but you went for the three.
0:18:55 > 0:18:58If we just take this pile and count out three cards -
0:18:58 > 0:18:59one, two, three.
0:18:59 > 0:19:01You see, the next card is actually the two of spades.
0:19:01 > 0:19:03- Is that your card?- Yes, it is.
0:19:03 > 0:19:05Whoa! Knew I could count on you, Oliver!
0:19:07 > 0:19:10Next up, it's James to reveal his secret in Tricks Of The Trade.
0:19:11 > 0:19:14James will show you how to balance this penny
0:19:14 > 0:19:16on the edge of a flat banknote.
0:19:16 > 0:19:19Come on, have you worked it out yet?
0:19:19 > 0:19:20Has the penny dropped?
0:19:20 > 0:19:22Sorry, I couldn't resist.
0:19:22 > 0:19:24Do you hold the penny in place?
0:19:26 > 0:19:27No!
0:19:27 > 0:19:29Do you get your mate to come and help?
0:19:29 > 0:19:32Don't be daft! Get away, Katherine.
0:19:32 > 0:19:36So enough teasing already. What's the secret, James?
0:19:36 > 0:19:38Fold a banknote in half like this,
0:19:38 > 0:19:40stand it up on a flat surface
0:19:40 > 0:19:42and prepare to position the penny.
0:19:44 > 0:19:46It goes right here on top of the fold,
0:19:46 > 0:19:49then slowly pull the edges of the banknote apart.
0:19:49 > 0:19:52The friction and the banknote take care of the rest.
0:19:52 > 0:19:55It's a tricky operation, eh, James?
0:19:55 > 0:19:57Boom! There it is.
0:19:58 > 0:20:02Now you can impress everyone in the playground using your pocket money.
0:20:04 > 0:20:05Next, Katherine's at a car museum
0:20:05 > 0:20:08to drive them wild Up Close And Magical.
0:20:08 > 0:20:11I've got something amazing to show you.
0:20:11 > 0:20:12I've got a friend with me here
0:20:12 > 0:20:13but he's a little bit shy
0:20:13 > 0:20:15so he does tend to hide a bit
0:20:15 > 0:20:17but he is around here somewhere.
0:20:17 > 0:20:19Oh, look! There he is.
0:20:19 > 0:20:22This is Meany.
0:20:22 > 0:20:25Now, Meany has a little tiny brother called Teeny.
0:20:25 > 0:20:27Whoa! Two for the price of one.
0:20:27 > 0:20:31Now, Meany is kind of out of shape and he's quite a slow mover,
0:20:31 > 0:20:34whereas Teeny is much, much smaller and much quicker.
0:20:34 > 0:20:38So what I'd like you to do, Jake, is to hold onto Meany for me
0:20:38 > 0:20:40and Elliot, I want you to hold onto Teeny.
0:20:40 > 0:20:42Now, just to warn you, he moves very, very quickly, OK?
0:20:42 > 0:20:45So you're going to have to grab him quick because he's going to try
0:20:45 > 0:20:47and get away. OK, are you ready?
0:20:47 > 0:20:50That was so quick, it's almost as if she didn't let go.
0:20:50 > 0:20:53I'll tell you what, let me take hold of Teeny
0:20:53 > 0:20:55and you grab a hold of Meany.
0:20:55 > 0:20:57So Katherine's got the ball called Teeny
0:20:57 > 0:21:00and Elliot's got the ball named Meany.
0:21:00 > 0:21:02Oh, look at that. He's gone.
0:21:02 > 0:21:03But if you have a look in there,
0:21:03 > 0:21:07I think he might have gone to see his brother. There he is.
0:21:07 > 0:21:09Whoa! He only had one ball. Now he's got both.
0:21:09 > 0:21:13Now, you know they've got an even younger brother who's even smaller
0:21:13 > 0:21:16called Weeny. So, Jake, if you can hold onto both of them for me
0:21:16 > 0:21:17and we're going to find Weeny.
0:21:19 > 0:21:21Oh, look, there he is. This is Weeny.
0:21:21 > 0:21:23Now he's so small it looks as though he's not there
0:21:23 > 0:21:26but he is there, he's just very, very shy
0:21:26 > 0:21:29and he only comes out if he's with his big brothers.
0:21:29 > 0:21:30So if we throw him in your hand,
0:21:30 > 0:21:31open up very slowly,
0:21:31 > 0:21:34we should find that he's hiding in there with them.
0:21:34 > 0:21:37Oh, look at that! There you go. There's Teeny, Weeny and Meany.
0:21:37 > 0:21:40- Isn't that amazing?- Yeah.
0:21:40 > 0:21:42That's no meany feat. I mean mean.
0:21:42 > 0:21:45Three balls just suddenly appeared in my hand.
0:21:45 > 0:21:48I don't know how that could be possible.
0:21:48 > 0:21:50And there's Teeny, Weeny and Meany.
0:21:50 > 0:21:53I think that trick was absolutely brilliant.
0:21:54 > 0:21:56A bit mind-blowing.
0:21:56 > 0:21:58Those sponge balls get everywhere.
0:22:00 > 0:22:03Here's another one. There's probably some around you.
0:22:03 > 0:22:06See if you can find them all. Have a little look.
0:22:09 > 0:22:10All right!
0:22:11 > 0:22:13Calm yourselves down!
0:22:14 > 0:22:17OK, now you can gear yourselves up again because James is
0:22:17 > 0:22:20pretending to be a supply teacher to try and fool another class.
0:22:22 > 0:22:25The disguise is ready, the props are ready...
0:22:25 > 0:22:27or they were.
0:22:28 > 0:22:29SCHOOL BELL RINGS
0:22:29 > 0:22:32Enter year four. They don't know it yet but they're about to get
0:22:32 > 0:22:36an incredible lesson about space that's out of this world.
0:22:36 > 0:22:39So far, none of them have noticed the hidden cameras
0:22:39 > 0:22:42in their classroom or recognised James as our magician.
0:22:42 > 0:22:46But when the magic starts, will they spot the black holes in his story?
0:22:46 > 0:22:48Morning, class.
0:22:48 > 0:22:49- ALL:- Morning.
0:22:49 > 0:22:53My name is Mr Andrus and I'm a scientist.
0:22:53 > 0:22:56In fact, I'm here from a local university where my speciality
0:22:56 > 0:23:01is astrophysics and I'm here to teach you a lesson about space.
0:23:01 > 0:23:02He made all of that up.
0:23:02 > 0:23:06Now, you might have heard on the news recently that there's been
0:23:06 > 0:23:10a massive discovery of something called the Higgs Boson.
0:23:10 > 0:23:13This is effectively a tiny, tiny particle that scientists have
0:23:13 > 0:23:16been looking for for years and years and years and years.
0:23:16 > 0:23:19The Higgs Boson is particularly interesting when we come to
0:23:19 > 0:23:22study something called black holes. Have you heard of black holes?
0:23:22 > 0:23:23- ALL:- Mm-mm.
0:23:23 > 0:23:26Now, you might have seen something on TV or maybe a film
0:23:26 > 0:23:29where you've seen a space ship go into a black hole
0:23:29 > 0:23:32or something like that and thought, "That can't be real."
0:23:32 > 0:23:35But they are. Black holes are real and they're what happens
0:23:35 > 0:23:37when a star stops shining.
0:23:37 > 0:23:39That is a true fact.
0:23:39 > 0:23:42Imagine a star that's been up there for millions and millions of years.
0:23:42 > 0:23:44One day it's going to stop shining
0:23:44 > 0:23:47and what happens is it implodes in on itself,
0:23:47 > 0:23:51becoming very, very, very, very small but very, very dense.
0:23:51 > 0:23:55The matter is so dense, not even light can pass through.
0:23:55 > 0:23:57Boom! That was my mind imploding.
0:23:57 > 0:23:59Watch this space, though - the magic's coming.
0:23:59 > 0:24:02So to demonstrate that, I've got a few things with me today.
0:24:02 > 0:24:04I've got a piece of card with a hole in it
0:24:04 > 0:24:05and that's going to be a black hole.
0:24:05 > 0:24:10Not very black hole-ish yet but there's some magic in that model.
0:24:10 > 0:24:11And I've also got this ball,
0:24:11 > 0:24:12which is going to be
0:24:12 > 0:24:15a particle of space dust, OK?
0:24:15 > 0:24:19So imagine a black hole is like a big vacuum cleaner in the sky
0:24:19 > 0:24:23that sucks dust or anything that comes into its way straight inside
0:24:23 > 0:24:26and once inside, it can never escape.
0:24:26 > 0:24:30So if this dust were to go into the hole like so...
0:24:31 > 0:24:34..it would remain inside the hole forever.
0:24:35 > 0:24:38Now, you might think that
0:24:38 > 0:24:41because it's in the hole, it must have gone through the other side
0:24:41 > 0:24:45but it hasn't. It's actually remained inside the hole.
0:24:45 > 0:24:47Now, at the moment,
0:24:47 > 0:24:51there's no known force in the entire universe
0:24:51 > 0:24:53powerful enough to reach inside
0:24:53 > 0:24:56and be able to pull that particle of space dust out.
0:24:56 > 0:24:57Isn't that amazing?
0:24:57 > 0:25:01It's been incredible already but it's about to go into hyperspace.
0:25:02 > 0:25:06Even if I were able to hold onto that particle of dust the entire time,
0:25:06 > 0:25:10it would still disappear as I was holding it.
0:25:10 > 0:25:12Isn't that crazy?
0:25:12 > 0:25:14It would never, ever be reproduced.

0:26:36 > 0:26:40and then he dips his hand and the ball comes back out again.
0:26:40 > 0:26:43James's Martian magic was impressive
0:26:43 > 0:26:45but it was about to go into orbit.
0:26:47 > 0:26:50He put his hand back through and he took out a rocket.
0:26:52 > 0:26:55It was amazing. I was wondering where did he put the rocket,
