0:00:02 > 0:00:03It's a brand new term and CBBC has sent these
0:00:03 > 0:00:06four magicians back to school.
0:00:06 > 0:00:09They're pretending to be supply teachers,
0:00:09 > 0:00:12so that they can perform amazing magic
0:00:12 > 0:00:14on unsuspecting classes.
0:00:14 > 0:00:16But because you know and love them,
0:00:16 > 0:00:18this time we've cunningly disguised them.
0:00:21 > 0:00:25Then we hid secret cameras all over classrooms
0:00:25 > 0:00:28and watched as they taught spectacular lessons.
0:00:28 > 0:00:31Went flying around, like a magic saucer.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33CHILDREN GASP IN AMAZEMENT
0:00:33 > 0:00:34That was sick.
0:00:36 > 0:00:39It's more magic, it's more outrageous.
0:00:39 > 0:00:40I was just flabbergasted.
0:00:40 > 0:00:43But how long will it take before the classes shout...
0:00:50 > 0:00:54Hello, it's me, Iain, and welcome back to school for a new term.
0:00:54 > 0:00:58It's Help! My Supply Teacher Is Still Magic.
0:00:58 > 0:01:01You could say it's Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic Two,
0:01:01 > 0:01:04this time it's even trickier.
0:01:04 > 0:01:08Once again, we've swapped regular teachers with magicians
0:01:08 > 0:01:11and because you know them, we've disguised them.
0:01:11 > 0:01:13We've filmed the results with special cameras
0:01:13 > 0:01:16hidden in the classrooms. Yeah, we've got more double bluffs
0:01:16 > 0:01:20than a fox going to a chicken's fancy dress party dressed as a fox.
0:01:20 > 0:01:23We're also showing you loads of great tricks.
0:01:23 > 0:01:24Tricks like this.
0:01:24 > 0:01:28Watch as I magically dissect this orange into equal pieces.
0:01:34 > 0:01:35Here's what's coming up.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40Fergus is undercover in this class of Year Threes.
0:01:40 > 0:01:44He does a trick about blood cells that will send their hearts racing.
0:01:45 > 0:01:48James is locked and loaded in Up Close And Magical.
0:01:49 > 0:01:52You've been sending in clips of all your best magic tricks
0:01:52 > 0:01:55and later on, I will be picking my favourite.
0:01:55 > 0:01:59The Wannabe Wizards have wands and they know how to use them.
0:01:59 > 0:02:00But first...
0:02:00 > 0:02:05Do you think you'd be able to tell if your teacher started doing magic?
0:02:05 > 0:02:06Do you?
0:02:07 > 0:02:09This is Fergus.
0:02:09 > 0:02:12He studies magic and now he's about to teach using it.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14The disguise is on.
0:02:14 > 0:02:18It's a white coat, because he's been developing this trick at the lab.
0:02:20 > 0:02:21Enter Year Three.
0:02:21 > 0:02:24They don't know it yet, but they're about to get an amazing
0:02:24 > 0:02:28lesson about blood that will hit a rich vein of magic.
0:02:28 > 0:02:31So far, none of them have noticed the hidden cameras
0:02:31 > 0:02:35in their classroom or recognised Fergus as our magician.
0:02:35 > 0:02:38But will they buy his lesson about cells?
0:02:38 > 0:02:43Now, today we're going to be doing a very exciting experiment with blood.
0:02:43 > 0:02:45You can see there's a fact file behind me,
0:02:45 > 0:02:48which has got lots of really interesting things about blood.
0:02:48 > 0:02:51Let's see if they spot the magic in amongst the facts.
0:02:51 > 0:02:55So blood is very, very important.
0:02:55 > 0:02:58It means we can breathe, it means we can walk, it means we can eat,
0:02:58 > 0:03:01it means we can do everything to survive.
0:03:01 > 0:03:05Now, when scientists or doctors do experiments with blood,
0:03:05 > 0:03:08they use something called a Petri dish.
0:03:08 > 0:03:10Now, a Petri dish is normally a lot smaller than this.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13Note there's nothing under that dish.
0:03:13 > 0:03:15But so everyone in this class can see,
0:03:15 > 0:03:18I've got a much bigger bowl made of metal.
0:03:18 > 0:03:23I've also got something called a pipette. A pipette.
0:03:23 > 0:03:28Now a pipette allows for blood to be sucked up, transferred
0:03:28 > 0:03:30and put somewhere else.
0:03:30 > 0:03:32All scientifically correct so far.
0:03:32 > 0:03:34But this lesson's about to be sucked up
0:03:34 > 0:03:36and put somewhere else labelled magic.
0:03:36 > 0:03:42These are going to act as my blood cells, OK?
0:03:42 > 0:03:45So, the first part is to take one of those blood cells
0:03:45 > 0:03:48and to suck it up into the pipette. Ready?
0:03:49 > 0:03:51Goes into the pipette.
0:03:51 > 0:03:54Now he's putting it under the dish.
0:03:54 > 0:03:56It goes under the Petri dish.
0:03:57 > 0:04:02So we take the second red blood cell, OK?
0:04:02 > 0:04:04Check out if you see it disappear this time.
0:04:04 > 0:04:08Watching closely? Goes into the pipette.
0:04:13 > 0:04:15And under the Petri dish.
0:04:15 > 0:04:20The last red blood cell goes exactly the same as the other ones.
0:04:20 > 0:04:26The pipette goes into the side of the hand, takes the blood cell.
0:04:26 > 0:04:28Squeezing the pipette and squeezing the truth.
0:04:28 > 0:04:34And then we can place it under the Petri dish. All three blood cells!
0:04:34 > 0:04:37- How cool is that?- The class clearly believe that Fergus is teaching them
0:04:37 > 0:04:41real science, but they'll know it's magic soon and it'll all kick off.
0:04:41 > 0:04:45Sometimes we get an infection in the body,
0:04:45 > 0:04:48so you might have had a cold or the flu, a cough, something like that.
0:04:48 > 0:04:52The magic's about to spread like an infection too.
0:04:52 > 0:04:57That's going to be represented by a green cell.
0:04:57 > 0:05:00So imagine that's the infection goes into the Petri dish, right?
0:05:00 > 0:05:03OK, so the green ball is in the dish.
0:05:03 > 0:05:05And that goes in with all the other blood cells.
0:05:05 > 0:05:08The red balls have gone in too. That's four balls.
0:05:08 > 0:05:13When the body is fighting an infection, do you know what happens?
0:05:13 > 0:05:17Those blood cells actually begin
0:05:17 > 0:05:20to start
0:05:20 > 0:05:23and multiply.
0:05:24 > 0:05:26And there it still goes and goes.
0:05:26 > 0:05:30Whoa, there was only four balls and now there are loads.
0:05:30 > 0:05:31It doesn't stop until, look,
0:05:31 > 0:05:33the infection is totally full on,
0:05:33 > 0:05:35it's still going.
0:05:38 > 0:05:41This lesson's been all thrills and blood spills, but now it's
0:05:41 > 0:05:46time for Fergus to spill the beans about his magical secret.
0:05:46 > 0:05:48Now, who thought that was cool?
0:05:48 > 0:05:49- CLASS:- Me!
0:05:49 > 0:05:52Was that the best experiment you've ever seen?
0:05:52 > 0:05:54- CLASS:- Yes.- Good.
0:05:54 > 0:05:58Now, there is something I haven't actually told you and that's
0:05:58 > 0:06:05I'm not actually a teacher and I'm not really a scientist.
0:06:05 > 0:06:09I'm actually a magician and all of you have been set up
0:06:11 > 0:06:14by your families, your friends, your school and there's
0:06:14 > 0:06:18a camera there in the classroom and there's a camera here and there's
0:06:18 > 0:06:21a camera there and you're all going to appear on a CBBC show called
0:06:21 > 0:06:23Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic.
0:06:23 > 0:06:25THEY SCREAM EXCITEDLY
0:06:27 > 0:06:31No wonder they're excited, that was a sensational trick.
0:06:31 > 0:06:34Let's hear how it made their pulses race.
0:06:34 > 0:06:38My favourite bit was when he made millions
0:06:38 > 0:06:40and millions of multiples of cells.
0:06:40 > 0:06:44He only started with four balls and they just kept appearing.
0:06:44 > 0:06:46It was impossible to keep count.
0:06:48 > 0:06:50Thousands and thousands of balls came out.
0:06:50 > 0:06:53It was just like the whole building was going to explode.
0:06:55 > 0:07:00An explosive trick and the class had no idea Fergus was a magician.
0:07:00 > 0:07:02How long would it take for you to shout...
0:07:08 > 0:07:09Later on, you'll see what happened
0:07:09 > 0:07:13when Katherine went undercover at another school.
0:07:13 > 0:07:17She did a trick with sand that was anything but wet.
0:07:17 > 0:07:19Right now though, James is at a farm
0:07:19 > 0:07:21and he's about to get up close and magical.
0:07:21 > 0:07:24OK, I'm going to show you an absolutely fantastic trick,
0:07:24 > 0:07:28but I need to borrow a ring? Have you got a ring? Great.
0:07:28 > 0:07:30Keep your eye on that ring.
0:07:30 > 0:07:33We're going to keep this safe and secure in this hand.
0:07:33 > 0:07:36And you can see, if I wrap my fingers slowly around the ring,
0:07:36 > 0:07:39is there any way that ring could leave my hand?
0:07:39 > 0:07:40That ring is going nowhere, right?
0:07:40 > 0:07:43Especially when you can see from the top,
0:07:43 > 0:07:45you can see from the bottom. In fact, you can see all angles.
0:07:45 > 0:07:47Would you roll up my sleeve?
0:07:47 > 0:07:50Excellent and hold onto my wrist, making it impossible, OK?
0:07:50 > 0:07:52You have complete control at the moment
0:07:52 > 0:07:55and there's no way that ring can leave my hand.
0:07:55 > 0:07:56Watch.
0:07:57 > 0:08:01If I blow, see, the ring completely disappears.
0:08:01 > 0:08:05Whoa, the ring's disappeared. How is that possible? But there's more.
0:08:05 > 0:08:07- Did you see where it went?- No.
0:08:07 > 0:08:09Well, that might be a problem.
0:08:09 > 0:08:10Ah, right.
0:08:12 > 0:08:16No need to worry, cos the ring is still safe and secure.
0:08:16 > 0:08:18In fact,
0:08:18 > 0:08:20just here...
0:08:21 > 0:08:23Does that ring look familiar?
0:08:23 > 0:08:24It's locked.
0:08:26 > 0:08:30It's locked, secure, on this combination padlock.
0:08:30 > 0:08:33Now the only way you can open this lock is if you know
0:08:33 > 0:08:38the correct combination and if the numbers aren't right, it won't open.
0:08:38 > 0:08:41Now, unfortunately, I don't know what the combination is
0:08:41 > 0:08:43but maybe you could help me.
0:08:43 > 0:08:48So, if you take the padlock and think of any random four numbers.
0:08:48 > 0:08:50Put them in.
0:08:54 > 0:08:56And give it a little pull. Did it open?
0:08:56 > 0:08:57No, ah.
0:08:58 > 0:09:01But wait, seeing as you're in control, it only makes sense
0:09:01 > 0:09:03if we make this personal to you.
0:09:03 > 0:09:06Now, I'd never ask a woman how old she is, especially on TV.
0:09:06 > 0:09:09But if you could put in the year of your date of birth.
0:09:14 > 0:09:18Now, before you open that padlock, nobody's asked you before how old
0:09:18 > 0:09:21- you are and we've never met and we've never set anything up?- No, no.
0:09:21 > 0:09:24If you'd just pull that padlock.
0:09:24 > 0:09:25Take the ring off.
0:09:25 > 0:09:28The ring's been returned, the padlock undone,
0:09:28 > 0:09:30but James' secret is safe.
0:09:31 > 0:09:33That trick was absolutely amazing.
0:09:34 > 0:09:37Now Katherine's going to set you a magical challenge
0:09:37 > 0:09:39in Tricks Of The Trade.
0:09:39 > 0:09:40If you fancy yourself as a magician,
0:09:40 > 0:09:43here's a trick you can try on your mates.
0:09:43 > 0:09:47Katherine's got a large cup, a plastic card...
0:09:49 > 0:09:51..three ten pence coins like these...
0:09:53 > 0:09:55..and a jug of water.
0:09:56 > 0:10:01With the plastic card balancing on the edge of the cup like this,
0:10:01 > 0:10:03Katherine will show you how to balance
0:10:03 > 0:10:07the three coins on this end of the card, without them falling off.
0:10:10 > 0:10:12Can you work out how to do it?
0:10:12 > 0:10:14Keep watching and you'll find out later in the show.
0:10:14 > 0:10:16It's going to be incredible.
0:10:18 > 0:10:21Right now we have something amazing for you.
0:10:21 > 0:10:23This is the Interactive Illusion.
0:10:23 > 0:10:25This is a trick where you can take part at home.
0:10:25 > 0:10:27So come on, you need to pay close attention.
0:10:27 > 0:10:30So come right over here, right next to the TV.
0:10:30 > 0:10:34If you haven't got a TV, just come close to the radio.
0:10:34 > 0:10:37We're not on the radio? Well, maybe just the computer.
0:10:37 > 0:10:39Just watch closely.
0:10:44 > 0:10:46You ready? Good.
0:10:46 > 0:10:50Start by placing your finger on any of these animals
0:10:50 > 0:10:52in this row here.
0:10:52 > 0:10:53Now spell out the animal
0:10:53 > 0:10:54that you have chosen,
0:10:54 > 0:10:58moving one space for each letter.
0:10:58 > 0:10:59You can move up or down,
0:10:59 > 0:11:03left or right, but not diagonally.
0:11:03 > 0:11:04If you had chosen camel,
0:11:04 > 0:11:07you would move your finger five spaces,
0:11:07 > 0:11:09spelling the word camel.
0:11:09 > 0:11:13C-A-M-E-L.
0:11:13 > 0:11:15Spell your animal now.
0:11:20 > 0:11:22I don't think you're on the horse,
0:11:22 > 0:11:23so we'll remove that.
0:11:23 > 0:11:26Now move your finger five spaces.
0:11:26 > 0:11:28You can move up or down, left or right.
0:11:32 > 0:11:34That's great.
0:11:34 > 0:11:35OK, you're not on the badger
0:11:35 > 0:11:37or the cat, so we'll remove those.
0:11:39 > 0:11:41Now, move seven spaces,
0:11:41 > 0:11:43up or down, left or right.
0:11:49 > 0:11:51OK, so you're not on the camel
0:11:51 > 0:11:53or the lion.
0:11:53 > 0:11:55I'd like you to move five more spaces.
0:12:00 > 0:12:03OK, you're not on the fish.
0:12:03 > 0:12:05Now, move one more space.
0:12:07 > 0:12:09All done?
0:12:09 > 0:12:10So you started on an animal
0:12:10 > 0:12:13and you've moved to a random location,
0:12:13 > 0:12:17but I know you're thinking of a magician's favourite animal,
0:12:17 > 0:12:18a rabbit!
0:12:18 > 0:12:20Were you thinking rabbit?
0:12:20 > 0:12:22Now it's time to hare off to the farm,
0:12:22 > 0:12:25where Fergus is getting up close and magical.
0:12:25 > 0:12:27Gemma, could you just say stop
0:12:27 > 0:12:28- on a card for me?- Stop.- Lovely.
0:12:28 > 0:12:31I'd like you to have a peek at this card and remember it.
0:12:31 > 0:12:33- Mm-hm.- Have you got that?- Yeah.
0:12:33 > 0:12:35I'm just going to show it to the camera as well.
0:12:35 > 0:12:38It's the three of hearts. Remember that card.
0:12:38 > 0:12:41Now, I'm going to find your card in quite an unusual way.
0:12:41 > 0:12:43How long do you think it would take
0:12:43 > 0:12:47if I was to go through the cards, take out your card,
0:12:47 > 0:12:50put two holes in your card and then thread this chain through the card?
0:12:50 > 0:12:52How long do you think that would take?
0:12:52 > 0:12:56- I think it would take you about... - Half a minute?
0:12:56 > 0:12:58- Half a minute?- Three minutes. - Not that fast.
0:12:58 > 0:13:01Maybe three minutes, maybe between half a minute and three minutes.
0:13:01 > 0:13:05But what I want you to do is imagine I've already done it.
0:13:05 > 0:13:07So, imagine you can see the card,
0:13:07 > 0:13:10you can actually visualise the card on the chain.
0:13:10 > 0:13:13- What was the card?- The three of hearts.- The three of hearts, Gemma.
0:13:13 > 0:13:18Watch - one, two, three.
0:13:18 > 0:13:20I just wave and can you see?
0:13:20 > 0:13:21Look, just rub the chain.
0:13:21 > 0:13:25Can you see? That's gone right the way through the card.
0:13:25 > 0:13:27Whoa! Let' get a rewind.
0:13:27 > 0:13:31One, two, three.
0:13:31 > 0:13:35Fergus just made the card they chose appear threaded on the chain.
0:13:35 > 0:13:36That's amazing.
0:13:36 > 0:13:41Through the card and actually, if I take the chain off and show the
0:13:41 > 0:13:45camera, you can see that that has gone all the way through the card.
0:13:45 > 0:13:46Have a look.
0:13:47 > 0:13:49It's magic.
0:13:49 > 0:13:52- Isn't that cool?- Yeah. - Marvellously cool.
0:13:52 > 0:13:56All he hardly did was just wave it round the key chain
0:13:56 > 0:14:01- and then after that it just vanished.- Like magic.
0:14:01 > 0:14:08That trick was the best trick I ever seen in magic history.
0:14:09 > 0:14:13Wow. Well the quantity of the magic is exhausting
0:14:13 > 0:14:15and the quality has been out of sight.
0:14:15 > 0:14:18So far out of sight, it's making me squint.
0:14:19 > 0:14:22So I feel like I've earned a sit down, but before I do,
0:14:22 > 0:14:24let's have a look at what's coming up.
0:14:24 > 0:14:26It's all kinds of ridiculousness.
0:14:27 > 0:14:30Katherine reveals a secret in tricks of the trade.
0:14:30 > 0:14:32Have you worked it out yet?
0:14:32 > 0:14:36John's jumping coins are up close and magical.
0:14:36 > 0:14:37And watch what happens
0:14:37 > 0:14:40when Katherine goes undercover in another school.
0:14:40 > 0:14:43Will she fool the class or will they realise
0:14:43 > 0:14:45their supply teacher is still magic?
0:14:45 > 0:14:46Isn't that clever?
0:14:47 > 0:14:49Oh! Each week I'm bringing you
0:14:49 > 0:14:53another of my new favourite magic movers and shakers,
0:14:53 > 0:14:56doing tricks in their own cribs, yards and front rooms.
0:14:56 > 0:14:59We call them the Wannabe Wizards.
0:14:59 > 0:15:01So I've got my comfy chair.
0:15:01 > 0:15:04I've got my computer thingy to watch them all on
0:15:04 > 0:15:07and I've got my trendy Anglepoise.
0:15:08 > 0:15:09Let's do this already.
0:15:11 > 0:15:13We asked you to send in clips
0:15:13 > 0:15:16of yourself performing your best magic tricks.
0:15:16 > 0:15:18We received loads of clips from all over the country.
0:15:18 > 0:15:21Each week I'll be choosing a favourite Wannabe Wizard
0:15:21 > 0:15:23and showing them to you guys.
0:15:23 > 0:15:26My Wannabe Wizard this time is Lewis from Lancashire
0:15:26 > 0:15:29and he's the straight man in a magical double act.
0:15:29 > 0:15:32Hello, everybody. I'm going to be doing a trick called The Wonder Rope.
0:15:32 > 0:15:35But this isn't just any ordinary rope, it's a magic rope.
0:15:35 > 0:15:39You see, if I just hold it this way and slide my hand across,
0:15:39 > 0:15:43it stiffens all the way through, no matter where I hold it.
0:15:43 > 0:15:46Now if I could just ask my assistant, Fido,
0:15:46 > 0:15:49to come along and hold this for me, while I get the instructions.
0:15:49 > 0:15:51Oh, you've broke it.
0:15:51 > 0:15:54Haven't had it two minutes and you've broke it, Fido.
0:15:54 > 0:15:57OK, I'll try again.
0:15:57 > 0:15:59Oh, you're no use, Fido. Go.
0:16:00 > 0:16:03All right, I'll give you one more chance.
0:16:03 > 0:16:06OK, hold this while I get the instructions.
0:16:07 > 0:16:09That's it, I've had it with you.
0:16:09 > 0:16:13Fido, go! You trot along and get your dinner. Go.
0:16:13 > 0:16:15OK, now I'll just show you how it's done.
0:16:15 > 0:16:19You just hold the rope like that, slide across and there it is.
0:16:19 > 0:16:20And that's The Wonder Rope.
0:16:20 > 0:16:21Fido!
0:16:23 > 0:16:24Magic.
0:16:24 > 0:16:27It sure was and that's why Lewis is my Wannabe Wizard.
0:16:29 > 0:16:31Now it's time for Katherine to reveal
0:16:31 > 0:16:33the secret in Tricks Of The Trade.
0:16:33 > 0:16:37With a plastic card balancing on the edge of a cup like this,
0:16:37 > 0:16:40Katherine will show you how to balance the three coins
0:16:40 > 0:16:43on the end of the card, without them falling off.
0:16:43 > 0:16:45Come on, have you worked it out?
0:16:45 > 0:16:47How many of you got it?
0:16:47 > 0:16:52Does it work because Katherine has a steady hand?
0:16:52 > 0:16:53No.
0:16:53 > 0:16:57Is it about how far she put the coins on the card?
0:16:57 > 0:16:59No.
0:16:59 > 0:17:00Want to know how it's done?
0:17:01 > 0:17:03Fill the cup with water,
0:17:03 > 0:17:04right up to the brim.
0:17:06 > 0:17:08When the water touches the card,
0:17:08 > 0:17:11it makes something called surface tension.
0:17:11 > 0:17:13This causes the card to stick
0:17:13 > 0:17:16and allows you to put weight on the end of the card.
0:17:16 > 0:17:18If you take it slowly, that is.
0:17:18 > 0:17:20Katherine's being very careful.
0:17:22 > 0:17:25OK, so that's the first one balancing on the card.
0:17:25 > 0:17:26Now for the second.
0:17:27 > 0:17:29There's two coins balancing.
0:17:29 > 0:17:31No water spilt.
0:17:31 > 0:17:33No wobble on the card.
0:17:33 > 0:17:36Here comes the third.
0:17:36 > 0:17:38Good skills, Katherine.
0:17:38 > 0:17:39Did you get it?
0:17:39 > 0:17:41Are you amazing already?
0:17:41 > 0:17:45Now you've got something to impress all your friends with.
0:17:45 > 0:17:48Next it's time for John, who's at a car museum,
0:17:48 > 0:17:50getting up close and magical.
0:17:50 > 0:17:53- Hi, girls, how are you? - Good.- Good.- Amazing.
0:17:53 > 0:17:54You're amazing, already?
0:17:54 > 0:17:57When I show you this, you'll be even more than amazing.
0:17:57 > 0:17:59I'm going to show you a trick using coins. Have a look.
0:17:59 > 0:18:02Hold out your hand. You can have a look at these coins and, yes,
0:18:02 > 0:18:05you can have a look at those coins. They're £2 coins.
0:18:05 > 0:18:08I haven't got any other coins, no extra coins, just four coins.
0:18:08 > 0:18:09Here's what's going to happen.
0:18:09 > 0:18:12We're going to try and make money change hands.
0:18:12 > 0:18:14Faye, would you help me with this?
0:18:14 > 0:18:16I'll hold one coin, you take the other three.
0:18:16 > 0:18:18John has one of the £2 coins.
0:18:18 > 0:18:20Faye has the other three.
0:18:20 > 0:18:25I throw it up in the air and it vanishes and it appears over here.
0:18:25 > 0:18:29John made his coin jump from one hand to the next. A magical start.
0:18:29 > 0:18:32Check that coin, make sure it's genuine. I'll take these.
0:18:32 > 0:18:35You saw that one jump across, all right, you saw it jump across.
0:18:35 > 0:18:39This next one you're going to hear jump across, all right?
0:18:39 > 0:18:42So you'll actually hear the next one jump across.
0:18:42 > 0:18:45Can you hold these coins again for me? Is that all right?
0:18:45 > 0:18:47If I put them in your hand like this,
0:18:47 > 0:18:50don't do anything with them yet, just hold them like that.
0:18:50 > 0:18:51Can you give me that last coin?
0:18:51 > 0:18:53Here's what I want you to do, Faye.
0:18:53 > 0:18:56Can you very, very carefully, get your other hand
0:18:56 > 0:18:58and just cup it over the coin like this?
0:18:58 > 0:19:00John has one coin. Faye has the other three.
0:19:00 > 0:19:03Then you're going to give the coins a shake for me.
0:19:03 > 0:19:05Can you do that? Give them a shake.
0:19:05 > 0:19:08Bit more, give them a nice good shake. That's it, now stop.
0:19:08 > 0:19:09Did you hear the sound change?
0:19:09 > 0:19:12I think one of the coins has vanished but don't look yet.
0:19:12 > 0:19:15Listen to mine, see if we can make it arrive.
0:19:15 > 0:19:16COINS JINGLE
0:19:17 > 0:19:19Now I've got two and how many have you got?
0:19:19 > 0:19:21You've got two as well.
0:19:21 > 0:19:23It's pretty amazing so far.
0:19:23 > 0:19:26Now listen, you've seen one jump across
0:19:26 > 0:19:28and you've heard one jump across.
0:19:28 > 0:19:32This time you're going to feel one jump across. OK?
0:19:32 > 0:19:33We'll take all four coins.
0:19:33 > 0:19:35Anna, would you help me with this one?
0:19:35 > 0:19:38Can you hold your fingers like this for me? Excellent.
0:19:38 > 0:19:39Maybe this hand. Wonderful.
0:19:39 > 0:19:42I want you to hold those coins exactly the same way
0:19:42 > 0:19:44that I'm holding mine. All right?
0:19:44 > 0:19:46Exactly the same way, just like this by the edges.
0:19:46 > 0:19:49That's it. Don't drop them just yet. I'm going to hold mine here.
0:19:49 > 0:19:52Drop yours into your hand and I'll drop mine into my hand
0:19:52 > 0:19:54and as soon as you drop them,
0:19:54 > 0:19:56grab hold of them so I can't switch them.
0:19:56 > 0:20:00Are you ready? One, two, three, go.
0:20:00 > 0:20:02Now, did you feel anything?
0:20:02 > 0:20:05Them drop into my hand?
0:20:05 > 0:20:08Do you feel anything now? Have a little feel.
0:20:08 > 0:20:11- Feels like one.- It feels like one. I told you she'd feel it.
0:20:11 > 0:20:13Open it up.
0:20:13 > 0:20:15Now you've just got one coin and I didn't touch anything.
0:20:15 > 0:20:18You dropped it in, and in my hand I've got three coins.
0:20:18 > 0:20:21- Oh!- That's pretty impressive but do you know what we'll do now?
0:20:21 > 0:20:24You're actually going to get a chance to make it happen yourself.
0:20:24 > 0:20:26Count them into your hand.
0:20:26 > 0:20:29You've got one, two, three,
0:20:29 > 0:20:31four coins. How many have I got?
0:20:31 > 0:20:32- None.- None. Excellent.
0:20:32 > 0:20:34If I make those into a little pile like this,
0:20:34 > 0:20:36here's what I want you to do for me.
0:20:36 > 0:20:38I'll ask you in a moment to take one of those coins
0:20:38 > 0:20:41and lift it and place it into my hand
0:20:41 > 0:20:44and as soon as you place it into my hand, close your hand tight
0:20:44 > 0:20:47so that there's no way I could sneak any coins back in there.
0:20:47 > 0:20:50OK, can you do that now? Lift it in, onto my hand
0:20:50 > 0:20:52then immediately close your hand tight.
0:20:52 > 0:20:54Excellent. How many are in your hand?
0:20:54 > 0:20:56- Three.- How many are in my hand?- One.
0:20:56 > 0:20:58One. Excellent. Watch.
0:20:58 > 0:21:00It vanishes.
0:21:00 > 0:21:01Completely gone.
0:21:01 > 0:21:04And how many have you got now in your hand?
0:21:04 > 0:21:06- Four.- Four.
0:21:06 > 0:21:08Wow.
0:21:08 > 0:21:09They're speechless.
0:21:09 > 0:21:11I'm speechless.
0:21:11 > 0:21:14John's speechless. I'm speechless.
0:21:14 > 0:21:18He was just, like, making it vanish.
0:21:18 > 0:21:21I had to place it into his hand and he just made it disappear
0:21:21 > 0:21:23and jump into my hand.
0:21:23 > 0:21:25I didn't, like, feel anything.
0:21:25 > 0:21:27Amazing.
0:21:27 > 0:21:30- Fantastic.- Brilliant.
0:21:30 > 0:21:33Did you see that? You didn't?
0:21:33 > 0:21:36You need to watch slower next time.
0:21:36 > 0:21:38Next up is Katherine, and guess what?
0:21:38 > 0:21:42She's about to be a supply teacher to fool another class.
0:21:42 > 0:21:44The disguise is on, the hidden cameras are set.
0:21:46 > 0:21:47Enter Year Five.
0:21:47 > 0:21:50They don't know it yet, but Katherine's about to take
0:21:50 > 0:21:53a magical lesson about water that's very fishy.
0:21:53 > 0:21:56None of them have recognised Katherine in her disguise or
0:21:56 > 0:21:58noticed the hidden cameras in their classroom.
0:21:58 > 0:22:02But will they be able to hide their excitement once the magic begins?
0:22:02 > 0:22:04- Hello, everyone. CLASS:- Hello.
0:22:05 > 0:22:07My name is Miss Goldstone
0:22:07 > 0:22:10and I'm going to be taking your class today, so we're going to be
0:22:10 > 0:22:13doing a bit of science and a bit of geography mixed together.
0:22:13 > 0:22:17We're learning all about water purification.
0:22:17 > 0:22:20Now, I've got a bowl of water here on the table
0:22:20 > 0:22:24and this is going to represent the water that we buy in a supermarket.
0:22:24 > 0:22:27Watch that bowl of clear water very closely.
0:22:27 > 0:22:29That's where the magic's going to happen.
0:22:29 > 0:22:31Depending on where this water comes from,
0:22:31 > 0:22:34it has to go through different purification processes to make
0:22:34 > 0:22:36it clean enough for us to drink.
0:22:36 > 0:22:40Not many people realise this, but a lot of our water starts off
0:22:40 > 0:22:44very dark and dirty and contaminated.
0:22:44 > 0:22:46How did that happen?
0:22:46 > 0:22:50She's turned it from clear water to dirty water right before their eyes.
0:22:50 > 0:22:53And depending on where that water's come from,
0:22:53 > 0:22:55it has different chemical elements in it.
0:22:55 > 0:22:58Katherine's started to muddy the waters of this lesson
0:22:58 > 0:23:00but they still don't suspect a thing.
0:23:00 > 0:23:04For example, our purified water often comes from lakes,
0:23:04 > 0:23:06it comes from rivers and wetlands,
0:23:06 > 0:23:09and you can find something called magnesium in it.
0:23:09 > 0:23:13Now, magnesium is a chemical element and I've got some red sand here
0:23:13 > 0:23:17and this is going to represent the magnesium.
0:23:18 > 0:23:22OK? So we're going to put this into our water.
0:23:22 > 0:23:24So she's poured the red sand into the bowl
0:23:24 > 0:23:27and it's dissolved into the dirty water.
0:23:27 > 0:23:30There we go.
0:23:30 > 0:23:33Now, another chemical element that's found is iron
0:23:33 > 0:23:38and I've got some yellow sand here to represent the iron.
0:23:38 > 0:23:40So again, this is going to go into our water.
0:23:42 > 0:23:44There you go. And again we're going to mix that in.
0:23:44 > 0:23:48Now the yellow sand has been added to the dirt in that water.
0:23:48 > 0:23:53There we go. And finally, I've got some blue sand here.
0:23:53 > 0:23:56Now this blue sand represents the chlorine that's found in the water.
0:23:56 > 0:23:58OK, so this is going to go in as well.
0:24:00 > 0:24:02Like that and again it's all mixed up together.
0:24:02 > 0:24:06Katherine's added the blue sand to the water and that's dissolved too.
0:24:06 > 0:24:09The magic's about to happen. Keep your eyes on that bowl.
0:24:09 > 0:24:13As I said, all these chemical elements are dissolved
0:24:13 > 0:24:17into the water, so, for the water to be safe for us to drink,
0:24:17 > 0:24:19we need to take all these chemical elements out.
0:24:19 > 0:24:23They're with you, Katherine, they totally believe you're a teacher.
0:24:23 > 0:24:24Now reel them in with the magic.
0:24:24 > 0:24:27There are a lot of different processes that we can use for that.
0:24:27 > 0:24:31One of the processes is called a pressure filter system.
0:24:31 > 0:24:35This is when all the water is put into a big tank
0:24:35 > 0:24:38and put under pressure and squeezed through a filter.
0:24:38 > 0:24:41There's nothing in her hands or up her sleeves.
0:24:41 > 0:24:43This is often used to remove magnesium
0:24:43 > 0:24:50and it's actually brought back to its solid form like that.
0:24:50 > 0:24:53She's pulled the red sand right out of the water and it's dry.
0:24:53 > 0:24:56Isn't that clever?
0:24:56 > 0:24:59Now, another process that's quite often used is something
0:24:59 > 0:25:02called a slow sand system.
0:25:02 > 0:25:04Now, this can take a long time,
0:25:04 > 0:25:07it can take up to ten days for the water to pass through the sand.
0:25:07 > 0:25:08But this is used a lot...
0:25:10 > 0:25:12..to take out the iron.
0:25:16 > 0:25:20Now she's pulled out the yellow sand and it's dry.
0:25:20 > 0:25:24The class can't believe it and there's more where that came from.
0:25:24 > 0:25:28And now the final process that's used is boiling the water.
0:25:28 > 0:25:33Now, when we boil the water, it actually separates the contaminated
0:25:33 > 0:25:39water with the pure water and allows us to take out all the chlorine.
0:25:39 > 0:25:42It's been purified by some pure magic.
0:25:42 > 0:25:43Like that.
0:25:44 > 0:25:49Now just remember, everybody, that was just a demonstration of how
0:25:49 > 0:25:53you purify water, so I don't want you trying to purify puddles outside
0:25:53 > 0:25:56or your bathwater at home, so you can turn it into drinking water.
0:25:56 > 0:26:00That does give you some idea about how our water
0:26:00 > 0:26:03comes from the source and into the bottles of water that we drink.
0:26:03 > 0:26:08The water's dirty and now it's time for Katherine to come clean.
0:26:08 > 0:26:12So, would you all like to know a secret?
0:26:12 > 0:26:14- CLASS:- Yes.
0:26:14 > 0:26:15Yeah?
0:26:15 > 0:26:20What you just saw then, that wasn't really just a water demonstration,
0:26:20 > 0:26:24that was actually a magic trick, because I'm not
0:26:24 > 0:26:28a teacher, I'm a magician and all of you have been set up by your
0:26:28 > 0:26:33parents and your teachers and you're all being filmed right now.
0:26:33 > 0:26:36There's a camera over there and there's a camera over there,
0:26:36 > 0:26:39and there's a camera over there, cos you're all going to be on
0:26:39 > 0:26:41Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic.
0:26:41 > 0:26:43CHEERING
0:26:43 > 0:26:46Katherine's trick with sand used sleight of hand
0:26:46 > 0:26:47and it deceived my eyes.
0:26:47 > 0:26:50But how did the class see it?
0:26:50 > 0:26:53At first I was, like, really confused cos
0:26:53 > 0:26:56in my mind, I was like, "How could she do that?"
0:26:56 > 0:26:59- Just don't know what happened there.- Yeah.- Wow.
0:26:59 > 0:27:01Can't believe it.
0:27:01 > 0:27:03They couldn't believe it because the coloured sands
0:27:03 > 0:27:07disappeared into the water, but all came out dry.
0:27:07 > 0:27:09All the chlorine.
0:27:09 > 0:27:12That was weird because you can't do that
0:27:12 > 0:27:14because it all dissolves in the water.
0:27:14 > 0:27:22An incredible trick and this class didn't realise...
0:27:27 > 0:27:31See you later, but until then, if you're at school and you think
0:27:31 > 0:27:35something magical is occurring, maybe you'll find yourself shouting,
0:27:35 > 0:27:38"Help! My Supply Teacher Is Still Magic!"
0:27:40 > 0:27:43Subtitles by Red Bee Media Ltd
