0:00:02 > 0:00:03It's a brand-new term

0:00:03 > 0:00:06and CBBC has sent these four magicians back to school.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09They are pretending to be supply teachers

0:00:09 > 0:00:13so that they can perform amazing magic on unsuspecting classes.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16But because you know and love them,

0:00:16 > 0:00:18this time we've cunningly disguised them.

0:00:21 > 0:00:25Then we hid secret cameras all over the classrooms

0:00:25 > 0:00:28and watched as they taught spectacular lessons.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Flying around like a magic saucer.

0:00:31 > 0:00:33KIDS CHEER

0:00:33 > 0:00:35That was sick!

0:00:35 > 0:00:39It's more magic, it's more outrageous.

0:00:39 > 0:00:40I was just flabbergasted.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43But how long will it take before the classes shout...?

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Hello! It's me, Iain, and we're back to school for a new term -

0:00:53 > 0:00:58it's "Help! My Supply Teacher Is Still Magic". You could say it's...

0:00:58 > 0:01:01- DEEP VOICE:- "Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic II:

0:01:01 > 0:01:03"Dude, Where's My Real Teacher?"

0:01:03 > 0:01:07Once again we've swapped regular teachers with magicians

0:01:07 > 0:01:10and because you know them, we've disguised them.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12We've filmed the results with special cameras

0:01:12 > 0:01:14hidden in the classrooms.

0:01:14 > 0:01:18Yeah, we are cheekier than a hamster with its cheeks full of nuts.

0:01:18 > 0:01:21We're also showing you loads of other great tricks.

0:01:21 > 0:01:24Tricks like this.

0:01:24 > 0:01:28James has the magical skills to print the dollar bills.

0:01:28 > 0:01:32- But this expensive-looking trick's a real snip.- If we just cut there.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35For John's interactive illusion, you will need a pack of cards

0:01:35 > 0:01:37and a marker pen.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Plus, you've been sending in clips of all your best magic tricks

0:01:40 > 0:01:43and later on, I will be picking my favourite.

0:01:43 > 0:01:47The Wannabe Wizards are going to be great! But first...

0:01:47 > 0:01:51Do you think you'd be able to tell if your teacher started doing magic?

0:01:51 > 0:01:53Do you?

0:01:53 > 0:01:54This is James.

0:01:54 > 0:01:59Check out his magic. Check out his checked shirt!

0:01:59 > 0:02:01The disguise is on.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Hop, skip and jump to it, James, and sort your tie out!

0:02:04 > 0:02:06They're waiting for you!

0:02:06 > 0:02:08- BELL RINGS - Enter Year Five.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11They don't know it yet, but James is about to give them

0:02:11 > 0:02:15a lesson about currency with a trick that's so on the money.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17So far, none of them have noticed the cameras

0:02:17 > 0:02:21hidden in the classroom or recognised James as our magician.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23But they are about to have a money-printing lesson

0:02:23 > 0:02:25that will leave its mark.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Good morning, class. I am a historian.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32Today we are going to do a special lesson on the history of money.

0:02:32 > 0:02:37Now, money as we know it has been around for 3,000 years.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39A bit of real history there!

0:02:39 > 0:02:41I've brought with me today

0:02:41 > 0:02:43something very, very special for you to see.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46This is a money printer from Germany

0:02:46 > 0:02:49that was invented about 150 years ago.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53I have restored this back to its original working condition.

0:02:53 > 0:02:57I've also added a few things that brings it up to date a little bit.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00- Would you like to see it work? ALL:- Yes, please.

0:03:00 > 0:03:01Good.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04It consists of just two rollers, so I've got a roller on the top

0:03:04 > 0:03:08and one on the bottom and if I turn the handle, the rollers turn

0:03:08 > 0:03:11and that's where the ink is stored. I've also got a few other things -

0:03:11 > 0:03:13I've got this cog on the front

0:03:13 > 0:03:16which has numbers on it so I can print different amounts.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19I've also got these little keys so I can do different currencies.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22I've got a British flag so I can print British money,

0:03:22 > 0:03:26or I've got a euro - the European symbol.

0:03:26 > 0:03:27I can print euros.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31- Or I can even print... Who knows what that is?- USA.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34American, I can print American dollars.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36This trick coming up is worth every penny.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39So how about we put the key in for Britain?

0:03:39 > 0:03:44We set this to five, so we'll go for £5.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47So I take my paper, which is completely blank,

0:03:47 > 0:03:50and if I put it in the machine, turn the handle,

0:03:50 > 0:03:54then on the other side you will see out comes...

0:03:54 > 0:03:57KIDS YELL ..a £5 note.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01They like this cash trick and the magic's barely registered yet!

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Isn't that fantastic?

0:04:03 > 0:04:08Unfortunately, I must take all these back to the museum with me later.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11Sorry about that. But this is a £5 note.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14It's got a serial number on it and everything.

0:04:14 > 0:04:18- Why don't we try some European money? Shall we try it?- Yeah!

0:04:18 > 0:04:24We put the European key in, and this time let's try ten euros.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27If we just turn the machine... like this.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29They can't take their eyes off the printer.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32Lucky they can't see the small print that says it's magic!

0:04:32 > 0:04:37We should get a ten-euro note.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41KIDS YELL Isn't that great?

0:04:41 > 0:04:44It's real money, but it's not a real printer.

0:04:44 > 0:04:47The class love it and now James is going to have some more fun.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49When you are using the machine,

0:04:49 > 0:04:52you have to be careful that you load the money in the correct way

0:04:52 > 0:04:56because if it is not in the right way then it comes out a bit weird.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59We will do... We'll do a five euro. A five euro.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01If I put the paper in

0:05:01 > 0:05:03just slightly off centre,

0:05:03 > 0:05:10when it comes out the other side, it's actually been misprinted.

0:05:10 > 0:05:14You can see that's been printed incorrectly.

0:05:14 > 0:05:18The other thing you must always do is make sure you use the right paper.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21- Who knows what that is?- Newspaper. - It's newspaper.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24- Shall we try...dollar? Shall we do some dollars?- Yes!

0:05:24 > 0:05:28So let's change the key to the little American flag.

0:05:28 > 0:05:33We will go for - nothing too high - 20.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35So if we change that to 20...

0:05:35 > 0:05:39Let's see how that turns out for us. Put this in.

0:05:39 > 0:05:43It goes in one side and comes out the other one printed.

0:05:43 > 0:05:50But you can see it's being printed on the newspaper.

0:05:50 > 0:05:53- I'd buy that trick for a dollar! - Let's try that again.

0:05:53 > 0:05:55We'll leave it as American and 20,

0:05:55 > 0:05:58but this time we'll use the correct paper.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00- Who's enjoying the lesson so far?- Me!

0:06:00 > 0:06:03OK, great. Oh, just load this in.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07Oh, wait. Oh, no. Oh, no.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13Oh. Oh, that's not good.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16It's printed on my tie.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19Look! James's tie's got a dollar bill printed on it!

0:06:19 > 0:06:23I don't think I can get it out, actually. That's that ruined.

0:06:23 > 0:06:29KIDS LAUGH That's bad. Oh, there we go.

0:06:29 > 0:06:33I'll try this. Let's try this.

0:06:37 > 0:06:40Look, if we just cut there, then hopefully...

0:06:42 > 0:06:43There we go.

0:06:45 > 0:06:46A shame about the tie.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48The class don't think it's a shame

0:06:48 > 0:06:52and now James is going to tie the lesson up by telling them the truth.

0:06:52 > 0:06:57I don't just go around different schools and talk about history -

0:06:57 > 0:07:01in fact, I am not a historian, I am a magician.

0:07:01 > 0:07:05KIDS YELL

0:07:05 > 0:07:10And you are all secretly being filmed on cameras there, and here for

0:07:10 > 0:07:13"Help! My Supply Teacher's Magic" on CBBC! Give them a wave!

0:07:15 > 0:07:19No wonder they're excited - James pulled off a sensational trick

0:07:19 > 0:07:21and he cut off his tie!

0:07:21 > 0:07:23Has it left the class tongue-tied?

0:07:25 > 0:07:27I just thought it was a normal...

0:07:27 > 0:07:29A normal day in the classroom,

0:07:29 > 0:07:32but then it started to get odder and odder.

0:07:32 > 0:07:34I just saw a machine and I thought,

0:07:34 > 0:07:37"He's just brought this thing in. Oh, that's quite cool."

0:07:37 > 0:07:41Not only was it cool, it was magic cos you can't print money like this.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43A £5 note.

0:07:43 > 0:07:47The newspaper one, I thought it was going to come out fine,

0:07:47 > 0:07:49but it actually came out really funny.

0:07:49 > 0:07:54The dollar bill DID look funny, but it was even funnier when James

0:07:54 > 0:07:59got his tie stuck in the magic printer and had to cut it off!

0:07:59 > 0:08:04It was really weird, but it was really good and I liked it.

0:08:06 > 0:08:10An incredible trick and the class had no idea James was a magician.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12How long would it take for you to shout...?

0:08:19 > 0:08:21Later on you'll see what happened

0:08:21 > 0:08:24when John went under cover at another school.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28His unhinged magic had the class on a piece of string.

0:08:28 > 0:08:33Right now though, Fergus is drawing them in, Up Close And Magical.

0:08:33 > 0:08:34So, we've got a pen.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36I'd like you to have a look at the pen

0:08:36 > 0:08:38and could you have a look at the cap?

0:08:38 > 0:08:41When you're happy they're regular, normal...

0:08:41 > 0:08:45Nothing hiding inside there? That's a proper inspection. Are you happy?

0:08:45 > 0:08:46Yeah.

0:08:46 > 0:08:52Now, Cameron. Your job is to watch very closely the cap.

0:08:52 > 0:08:56If I take the cap, and squeeze,

0:08:56 > 0:08:58you'll see it actually goes.

0:08:58 > 0:08:59It doesn't go very far -

0:08:59 > 0:09:01just to the other side of the pen.

0:09:01 > 0:09:06Keep your eye on the cap and you'll see the very moment it vanishes.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09Watch. Did you see it go?

0:09:09 > 0:09:10- Yeah.- It vanishes.

0:09:10 > 0:09:15It doesn't go very far, it just goes over here...behind my knee.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18Don't take your eyes off the cap -

0:09:18 > 0:09:21I want you to watch it very, very carefully.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25One, two, three. And it's gone.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29- Not the cap, the pen. The pen's gone. - Oh, my God!

0:09:29 > 0:09:32- But look, look up here behind my ear. Can you see?- Oh, my God!

0:09:32 > 0:09:36But what did I say before? Don't take your eyes off the cap.

0:09:36 > 0:09:39Watch the cap closely and I'll take back the pen...

0:09:39 > 0:09:43One, two, three.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46- Now the cap's gone. - Is that a magic marker, Fergus?

0:09:46 > 0:09:49- Where did the pen appear before? - Your ear.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51Look at my ear now.

0:09:51 > 0:09:55But I need that cos I need to put it back on the... Where did the pen go?

0:09:55 > 0:09:58Who took the pen? Did you take it? Oh, no!

0:09:58 > 0:10:03Sometimes it goes inside the cap and if I reach in I can pull it out.

0:10:03 > 0:10:08Whoa! He pulled the whole pen out of the lid! How did that get in there?

0:10:08 > 0:10:11That trick can be marked up "amazing"!

0:10:11 > 0:10:13I don't know how he did it

0:10:13 > 0:10:16and I don't know how the pen can go inside the cap.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20It was amazing.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23And from pens to pencils it's Katherine's magical challenge

0:10:23 > 0:10:24in Tricks Of The Trade.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26If you fancy yourself as a magician,

0:10:26 > 0:10:28here's a trick you can try on your mates.

0:10:28 > 0:10:32Katherine has got a piece of paper and an HB pencil.

0:10:32 > 0:10:37Katherine's going to show you how to make a normal grey HB pencil

0:10:37 > 0:10:41write any colour of the rainbow. Can you work out how to do it?

0:10:41 > 0:10:44Keep watching and you'll find out later in the show.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46It's going to be great.

0:10:46 > 0:10:49Right now we have something amazing for you.

0:10:49 > 0:10:52Have you got your deck of cards and a marker pen?

0:10:52 > 0:10:54This is the interactive illusion.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57This is a trick where you can take part at home.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01You need to pay close attention, so come over here a bit.

0:11:01 > 0:11:05A little bit, yep. Oh, lower your head a bit, I can see up your nose!

0:11:05 > 0:11:08Ugh. You ready? Here's John.

0:11:08 > 0:11:12You need to get the pen and cards ready now.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16OK, take any seven cards from your deck -

0:11:16 > 0:11:21any seven at all - and give them a shuffle, face down, like this.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24OK, turn over the whole packet

0:11:24 > 0:11:28and look at the card that ended up on the bottom.

0:11:28 > 0:11:31That will be your lucky card.

0:11:31 > 0:11:36To remember the card, draw a large X all across its face,

0:11:36 > 0:11:40going from corner to corner.

0:11:40 > 0:11:44Now, we turn the whole packet face down,

0:11:44 > 0:11:46leaving our good-luck card on the bottom.

0:11:46 > 0:11:52Spread the cards in a fan and take out any card except the bottom one,

0:11:52 > 0:11:56which is your good luck card, and turn that card face up

0:11:56 > 0:12:00and insert it in the exact centre of the packet,

0:12:00 > 0:12:03under three cards and above three cards.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08Close the fan and square the cards neatly.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12Cut the packet and complete the cut just as if you were playing cards.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16Cut and complete once more.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19Now, we spread the cards between our hands

0:12:19 > 0:12:22and without altering the order,

0:12:22 > 0:12:25we take the group of cards that is above the face-up card

0:12:25 > 0:12:28and we put that group on the bottom.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31Take the card that is face up on top.

0:12:31 > 0:12:35This card is a bad-luck card, so we throw it away.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38Take the top card and put it on the bottom.

0:12:38 > 0:12:42We take the next card from the top and we throw it away,

0:12:42 > 0:12:43just like before.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47Take the top card and put it on the bottom.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49Let's mix the cards some more like this.

0:12:49 > 0:12:54Spread the cards in a fan, take the top card and insert it in the middle.

0:12:54 > 0:12:59It doesn't need to be the exact centre, just somewhere in the middle.

0:12:59 > 0:13:03We take a card or two from the top and bury them

0:13:03 > 0:13:07also more or less in the middle.

0:13:07 > 0:13:11We take the card that all these shuffles have brought to the top

0:13:11 > 0:13:12and we throw it away.

0:13:12 > 0:13:16Move the top card to the bottom, take the next card from the top

0:13:16 > 0:13:19and throw it away.

0:13:19 > 0:13:22Reverse the order or leave them as they are.

0:13:25 > 0:13:29We take the card that ended up on top and throw it away.

0:13:29 > 0:13:34Move the top card to the bottom, we take the next card and throw it away.

0:13:34 > 0:13:39We have a single card left. Don't look at it because it's bad luck.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42Remember, some cut more cards, some less.

0:13:42 > 0:13:44Then we all shuffled several times.

0:13:44 > 0:13:47Some reversed their cards, some didn't.

0:13:47 > 0:13:50If we are still holding the good-luck card in our hands,

0:13:50 > 0:13:52that would be incredible.

0:13:52 > 0:13:54Let's see.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57I got it. Did you?

0:13:59 > 0:14:01That is incredible!

0:14:01 > 0:14:06Be prepared to be amazed again when James gets up close and magical.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09Now, when you're a magician, you see lots of good tricks.

0:14:09 > 0:14:13You see SOME great tricks, but it's very rare that you see

0:14:13 > 0:14:17an absolutely amazing trick, and this is an amazing trick.

0:14:17 > 0:14:21Before we start, Uriah, if I can ask you to shuffle those cards.

0:14:21 > 0:14:25And if you could just take the box and check there's nothing special

0:14:25 > 0:14:28- about it, there's no hidden doors or mirrors or anything like that.- No.

0:14:28 > 0:14:32Great. I'll take those cards back. Oh, excellent shuffling there!

0:14:32 > 0:14:35And you're happy that they are all different and all shuffled?

0:14:35 > 0:14:39- You can see all the faces are different?- Yes.- Yes?

0:14:39 > 0:14:41Those cards are completely out of order.

0:14:41 > 0:14:45- Now, Uriah, you've got a very important job to do.- Yes.- OK?

0:14:45 > 0:14:49What I'd like you to do is name or point to any one of those cards.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52You can have a diamond, a spade, anything you want.

0:14:52 > 0:14:56- Um...this.- Which one? The eight of spades?- No, the jack.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58- The Jack of Diamonds?- Yeah.

0:14:58 > 0:15:01Uriah has chosen the Jack Of Diamonds in James's deck.

0:15:01 > 0:15:05If we take the cards and we place them in the card box like this...

0:15:08 > 0:15:13Now, before I do this, just check there's nothing on my arms,

0:15:13 > 0:15:17- nothing extra apart from my watch. No?- No.- Nothing on this arm?

0:15:17 > 0:15:19- There's nothing up his sleeves. - And there's nothing above?

0:15:19 > 0:15:23Wave your hand above... and wave your hand below.

0:15:23 > 0:15:26- Nothing above, nothing below? - I'm just going to check the sides.

0:15:26 > 0:15:28OK, check the sides, as well. Be thorough.

0:15:28 > 0:15:31- Would you like to check the sides?! - I'm fine.- OK, great.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34- Now, earlier on, I gave you a deck of cards to shuffle.- Yes.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37And you named any card. Do you remember the card you named?

0:15:37 > 0:15:40- Yes, the Jack of Diamonds. - The Jack of Diamonds.

0:15:40 > 0:15:42Now, that Jack of Diamonds is somewhere in the middle

0:15:42 > 0:15:46of this deck at the moment. But watch... If I just take the deck

0:15:46 > 0:15:48and I slowly shake it like this,

0:15:48 > 0:15:52one card visibly rises from the middle of the deck.

0:15:52 > 0:15:53It can't be, can it?!

0:15:53 > 0:15:56And that card is your Jack of Diamonds.

0:15:56 > 0:16:00- You can take those, you can take those, and that.- How did that happen?

0:16:02 > 0:16:03I'm shocked.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06It IS shocking - shockingly good.

0:16:06 > 0:16:10I think that trick was thrilling.

0:16:10 > 0:16:16He put it in the box, and when he shook it, the card rises.

0:16:16 > 0:16:20And I never even knew magicians could do that trick!

0:16:21 > 0:16:24Wow! Well, the quantity of the magic is exhausting

0:16:24 > 0:16:27and the quality has been knee-trembling.

0:16:27 > 0:16:30In fact, it made my knees nearly give way.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32So, I feel like I've earned a sit down.

0:16:32 > 0:16:34But before I do, let's have a look at what's coming up.

0:16:34 > 0:16:36It's all kinds of ridiculousness.

0:16:37 > 0:16:42James gets up close and magical with a flash trick using disk drives.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45Catherine reveals the secret in Tricks Of The Trade.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47Have you worked it out yet?

0:16:47 > 0:16:51And watch what happens when John goes under cover in another school.

0:16:51 > 0:16:54Will he fool the class, or will they realise

0:16:54 > 0:16:56their supply teacher is still magic?

0:16:58 > 0:16:59Phew! Each week I bring you

0:16:59 > 0:17:03another of my new favourite magic movers and shakers doing tricks

0:17:03 > 0:17:06in their own cribs, yards and front rooms.

0:17:06 > 0:17:08We call them the wannabe wizards.

0:17:08 > 0:17:09So I've got my comfy chair,

0:17:09 > 0:17:13I've got my computer thing to watch all the magic on, and, er...

0:17:15 > 0:17:18..I've got my comedy octopus slippers. Let's do this, already!

0:17:19 > 0:17:23We asked you to send in clips of yourself performing your best

0:17:23 > 0:17:27magic tricks. We received loads of clips from all over the country.

0:17:27 > 0:17:29Each week, I'll be choosing my favourite wannabe wizard

0:17:29 > 0:17:31and showing them to you guys.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34My wannabe wizard this time is Ben from Stourbridge,

0:17:34 > 0:17:37and he's got a thirst for magic.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41OK, so here I am with an ordinary bottle of cola.

0:17:41 > 0:17:46I'll take this and pour the remainder into the glass...

0:17:46 > 0:17:48So there we have it.

0:17:50 > 0:17:57Now, I'll take this bottle... place it into the bag.

0:17:59 > 0:18:01So, we have a bottle, place it into the bag,

0:18:01 > 0:18:04wave my hand over the top,

0:18:04 > 0:18:08and it turns into the can. I'll do it again.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11Place it into the bag, wave my hand over the top

0:18:11 > 0:18:13and it turns back into the bottle.

0:18:13 > 0:18:15'You think you know how he's doing this trick, don't you?

0:18:15 > 0:18:20'He's got both the can and the bottle in the bag, right?'

0:18:20 > 0:18:23I suppose it's not a good trick, is it?

0:18:23 > 0:18:29'Wrong! That trick was far from rubbish! Wannabe wizard, Ben.'

0:18:29 > 0:18:32Now it's time for Katherine to reveal the secret

0:18:32 > 0:18:33in Tricks Of The Trade.

0:18:33 > 0:18:37Katherine is going to show you how to make a normal grey HB pencil

0:18:37 > 0:18:40write any colour of the rainbow.

0:18:40 > 0:18:44Come on, have you worked it out? How many of you got it?

0:18:44 > 0:18:47Maybe you think it's by saying the magic words?

0:18:49 > 0:18:50Nah!

0:18:50 > 0:18:53How about by writing with the side of the pencil?

0:18:56 > 0:18:57Don't be silly!

0:18:57 > 0:19:01Is it an optical illusion?

0:19:01 > 0:19:03Come on...

0:19:03 > 0:19:05Ask your friend their favourite colour.

0:19:05 > 0:19:13If they say "blue", simply write the word "blue" and you will be correct.

0:19:13 > 0:19:16If they say "red", you would write "red".

0:19:16 > 0:19:20Whatever colour they say, just write that. Do you get it?

0:19:20 > 0:19:22It's sneaky but clever.

0:19:22 > 0:19:26Now you've all got something to show off with in the playground.

0:19:26 > 0:19:31Now James does some blue chip trickery, Up Close And Magical.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34- Have you guys got a computer at home? - Yes.- Yeah, yeah.- Awesome.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36What are you like with your organisation?

0:19:36 > 0:19:39Do you keep everything in certain places or do you just

0:19:39 > 0:19:44- save it on the desktop?- We keep it on files.- Really? I'm rubbish.

0:19:44 > 0:19:47All my desktop is just awash with music and pictures

0:19:47 > 0:19:48and all kinds of stuff.

0:19:48 > 0:19:51But, lately, because it's been getting on my nerves,

0:19:51 > 0:19:54I've taken to using these USB drives. Do you use these?

0:19:54 > 0:19:57- I've seen people use them. - Yeah, so on the red one,

0:19:57 > 0:20:00I store all my pictures, and on the black one,

0:20:00 > 0:20:03- I store all my music.- Check it out.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06He has one red USB drive and one black one.

0:20:06 > 0:20:08The problem arises

0:20:08 > 0:20:11when I leave the house in the morning and accidentally take the wrong one.

0:20:11 > 0:20:16So, say if I take the black one... luckily, I'm a magician.

0:20:16 > 0:20:19So if I go, one, two...three,

0:20:19 > 0:20:22- see they change places?- Whoa!

0:20:22 > 0:20:25It's pretty cool, right? Let's try that again.

0:20:25 > 0:20:27We'll get rid of the black one this time.

0:20:27 > 0:20:29He's put the black one in his pocket.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32Sorry, we'll get rid of the black one.

0:20:34 > 0:20:37OK, I tell you what, we'll get rid of the black one...

0:20:37 > 0:20:40OK, this is getting annoying. We'll use the black one.

0:20:40 > 0:20:42We'll just use the black one, OK? So, look, same thing, OK?

0:20:42 > 0:20:46I've got my sound files on here, but let's say, for example, I want

0:20:46 > 0:20:49my picture files instead, yeah, all I have to do is go one, two, three...

0:20:49 > 0:20:53- Whoa.- And they switch places, yeah?

0:20:53 > 0:20:56- Wow.- Now, all of these have different sizes.

0:20:56 > 0:21:01This red one, that's about four gigabytes. That's quite big.

0:21:01 > 0:21:04The black one, however, is a little bit bigger.

0:21:04 > 0:21:08The black one is actually... 150 gigabytes,

0:21:08 > 0:21:09quite a bit bigger.

0:21:09 > 0:21:11Amazing!

0:21:11 > 0:21:14He's stretched the memory and he's stretched their minds.

0:21:14 > 0:21:16That was awesome.

0:21:16 > 0:21:20One of them was four megabytes and then the other one was 100,

0:21:20 > 0:21:25and it was two times the size of the other one. It was amazing!

0:21:25 > 0:21:27- It was cool!- Impossible.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29This is my memory stick.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33It reminds me when to take the dog for a walk. Fetch!

0:21:36 > 0:21:39It's not a very good memory stick. I don't have a dog...

0:21:39 > 0:21:41It must be someone else's.

0:21:42 > 0:21:45It's time for more school magic, and now there's John pretending

0:21:45 > 0:21:49to be a supply teacher and trying to fool another class.

0:21:49 > 0:21:52The disguise is on. John's limbered up...sort of.

0:21:52 > 0:21:55- BELL RINGS - Enter Year Four.

0:21:55 > 0:21:59They don't know it yet, but John's about to do a physics lesson

0:21:59 > 0:22:01that's not physically possible.

0:22:01 > 0:22:04None of the class have noticed the hidden cameras or recognised

0:22:04 > 0:22:06John in his natty glasses,

0:22:06 > 0:22:09but how long will it be before they suspect his nutty lesson?

0:22:09 > 0:22:13I'm not normally a teacher. I do teach, but I don't teach in schools.

0:22:13 > 0:22:15I am actually a studying professor.

0:22:15 > 0:22:19Now, has anybody here heard of a man called Isaac Newton? Excellent.

0:22:19 > 0:22:24Isaac Newton was a very, very famous scientist.

0:22:24 > 0:22:27It was Isaac Newton that discovered the theory of gravity.

0:22:27 > 0:22:31But he also discovered some very important laws about force

0:22:31 > 0:22:36and motion. We're going to talk about Isaac Newton's third law of motion,

0:22:36 > 0:22:40which says, quite simply, that forces come in pairs.

0:22:40 > 0:22:42In other words, for every action,

0:22:42 > 0:22:45there is an equal and opposite reaction.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47Some proper physics there.

0:22:47 > 0:22:51Imagine I'm stood on a skateboard, and I have a big,

0:22:51 > 0:22:55heavy ball in my hand, and I throw that heavy ball in that direction.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58What do you think will happen to me? Yes?

0:22:58 > 0:23:00I'll go backwards. That's right.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03A good description, and all factually correct.

0:23:03 > 0:23:04Some magic incoming, though.

0:23:04 > 0:23:06It's the way that rockets work

0:23:06 > 0:23:09in space, because in space, rockets don't have anything to push against.

0:23:09 > 0:23:13What's happening is, it's pushing a big force in one direction

0:23:13 > 0:23:15and Newton's third law means that there is another force

0:23:15 > 0:23:18in the opposite direction moving the rocket across.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21Do you think, for One Direction, there's an equal and opposite band?

0:23:21 > 0:23:23I can demonstrate that with one of these.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26This is a Newton's Cradle. Anybody seen one of these?

0:23:26 > 0:23:28Very good. It's called a Newton's Cradle

0:23:28 > 0:23:30cos it demonstrates some of Newton's laws.

0:23:30 > 0:23:34I can show you what I mean. I've got these little silver balls on strings.

0:23:34 > 0:23:37And if I drop one like this, watch what happens to the other side...

0:23:39 > 0:23:41Did you see that? What's happening there is the energy is going

0:23:41 > 0:23:44that way and it's coming out in the opposite direction.

0:23:44 > 0:23:46And that would go on for ever, if it wasn't for friction

0:23:46 > 0:23:49that slowed it down and took up some of the energy.

0:23:49 > 0:23:50The class are impressed.

0:23:50 > 0:23:53They've never had a 100-mile-an-hour teacher like John before.

0:23:53 > 0:23:56That was one of the devices that Newton used

0:23:56 > 0:23:58to explain one of his laws.

0:23:58 > 0:24:02But he also came up with some interesting experimental tools.

0:24:02 > 0:24:06He came up with these. These are called Newton's Sticks.

0:24:06 > 0:24:10Newton never had sticks. These are magic sticks.

0:24:10 > 0:24:11Watch them closely.

0:24:11 > 0:24:14It's very simple. You've got two silver balls on strings.

0:24:14 > 0:24:16What happens is, if I pull this silver ball,

0:24:16 > 0:24:18watch what happens to the other silver ball.

0:24:18 > 0:24:21The other one goes up, even though I'm not touching it.

0:24:21 > 0:24:22Quite impressive,

0:24:22 > 0:24:24but the strings on those poles must be connected, right?

0:24:24 > 0:24:26And it works the other way round - watch.

0:24:26 > 0:24:28I'm watching more closely this time.

0:24:28 > 0:24:31Without touching this one, watch what happens. That ball goes up.

0:24:31 > 0:24:34Now, when Isaac Newton demonstrated this principle to

0:24:34 > 0:24:35the rest of the scientists,

0:24:35 > 0:24:39they were all convinced that these were joined together in the middle.

0:24:39 > 0:24:41So he had to demonstrate the experiment again,

0:24:41 > 0:24:45but this time he separated them so they weren't touching each other.

0:24:45 > 0:24:46But still the same thing worked.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49If he pulled this one, that one went up in the air.

0:24:49 > 0:24:51And if he pulled this one, that one went up in the air.

0:24:51 > 0:24:54There must be some connection at the back.

0:24:54 > 0:24:56Of course, the scientists were very clever.

0:24:56 > 0:24:58Even hundreds of years ago, they weren't stupid.

0:24:58 > 0:25:01They thought, "Maybe the strings are connected here."

0:25:01 > 0:25:03So Isaac Newton had to demonstrate the principle again,

0:25:03 > 0:25:06but this time, holding the sticks far apart.

0:25:06 > 0:25:09- Now, THIS I have to see. - And even when he was holding them

0:25:09 > 0:25:12far apart, if he pulled this one, that one would go up in the air.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15And if he pulled this one, that one would go up in the air.

0:25:15 > 0:25:17There's no way those balls are touching.

0:25:17 > 0:25:19How are the balls doing that?!

0:25:19 > 0:25:20And you could keep doing that,

0:25:20 > 0:25:24because every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27Now, there is one problem that Isaac Newton discovered.

0:25:27 > 0:25:31If you stop the equal and opposite reaction happening, by holding

0:25:31 > 0:25:35both strings and pulling them down like that, now you have a problem.

0:25:35 > 0:25:38You see, there is nowhere for the energy to go.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41There's been a force, but there's been no equal and opposite reaction.

0:25:41 > 0:25:45And the only way to sort that out is by having an extra silver ball here.

0:25:45 > 0:25:49And watch what happens. If I pull this one, they all go up in the air.

0:25:49 > 0:25:51No way! How does he do that?

0:25:51 > 0:25:54The third ball is definitely not connected!

0:25:54 > 0:25:55How did you do that?

0:25:55 > 0:25:58It's Newton's third law. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

0:25:58 > 0:26:03It's either Newton's third law, or...maybe I'm not really a teacher.

0:26:03 > 0:26:05Maybe I'm a magician.

0:26:05 > 0:26:09What will their reaction be when they find out the truth?

0:26:09 > 0:26:12And I've been sent here by your teachers and your family

0:26:12 > 0:26:14and your head teachers, because you're going to be on

0:26:14 > 0:26:17a CBBC show called "Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic",

0:26:17 > 0:26:18and we've got a camera here...

0:26:18 > 0:26:19CHILDREN SCREAM

0:26:19 > 0:26:23..we've got a camera here, there's a camera at the back!

0:26:23 > 0:26:26John's trick with sticks stuck to the course without the class

0:26:26 > 0:26:30guessing his secret, but how will it stick in their minds?

0:26:30 > 0:26:34I was, honestly, "Is this a joke or is it real, or...

0:26:34 > 0:26:36"I don't know what's going on."

0:26:36 > 0:26:41Yes, it was real. Real magic, cos those sticks weren't connected.

0:26:41 > 0:26:42That one went up in the air.

0:26:42 > 0:26:46He pulled it up out of his pocket and then the balls just went

0:26:46 > 0:26:51right up, and it was like, I thought, "How can you do that?"

0:26:51 > 0:26:53Watch what happens. If I pull this one...

0:26:53 > 0:26:57John pulled the other one and the magic went to the top of the class.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00He put them in separate hands and it was kind of surprising.

0:27:00 > 0:27:02I was so excited,

0:27:02 > 0:27:05we have to say this... Ahh! We're going to be on TV! Sorry.

0:27:05 > 0:27:06SCREAMING

0:27:06 > 0:27:08No need to apologise.

0:27:08 > 0:27:12It was an amazing trick, and this class didn't realise...

0:27:18 > 0:27:20HE CHUCKLES

0:27:20 > 0:27:23Oh! John learned that trick from this book.

0:27:23 > 0:27:27I've been reading it, too. I just can't put it down...

0:27:27 > 0:27:29Literally!

0:27:29 > 0:27:31We'll see you later on, but until then,

0:27:31 > 0:27:34if you're at school and you think something magical's occurring, maybe

0:27:34 > 0:27:36you'll find yourself shouting,

0:27:36 > 0:27:39"Help! My supply teacher's still magic!"

0:27:56 > 0:27:59Subtitles by Red Bee Media Ltd
