0:02:09 > 0:02:13Will you be one of my Wannabe Wizards?

0:02:13 > 0:02:17Do you think you'd be able to tell if your teacher started doing magic?

0:02:17 > 0:02:18Do you?

0:02:18 > 0:02:22This is John, he loves milk, and he's a cool cat, in his own mind.

0:02:22 > 0:02:27He'll use magic skills undercover as a supply teacher.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30The hidden cameras are set. Is it your school?

0:02:30 > 0:02:33Is it your class? Let's find out.

0:02:33 > 0:02:37Year five are about to have a lesson about very small animals

0:02:37 > 0:02:39but they don't know what the big secret is,

0:02:39 > 0:02:42and that is we've hidden cameras in the classroom,

0:02:42 > 0:02:45and they're about to see some incredible magic.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48They don't know they're being filmed so keep the noise down.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51I thought I'd teach you about animals. I love animals.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55The reason I love animals is because my wife works in a zoo.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57It has some advantages.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01It does mean that when she comes home, she smells a bit.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03However, she gets to bring some of the smaller,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05friendlier animals home.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09And I've actually brought one of these animals with me.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13When I say I've brought one of them, I've brought lots of them.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15It is called the Peruvian Almond Fly.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17They're very, very small.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19So small, they're invisible to the naked eye.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21They live in big groups in a swarm.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24I've brought some with me. This isn't a big swarm,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26this is just a small group of flies.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28And I thought I'd let you see them. Do you want to?

0:03:28 > 0:03:33They're nodding. They must believe he's a real teacher. Would you?

0:03:33 > 0:03:35Hopefully we can have a look at them.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39I've got them in this little container here.

0:03:39 > 0:03:41Those are the Peruvian Almond Flies.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44The insects don't really exist, it's all part of the trick,

0:03:44 > 0:03:45but it is a good one.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49There are 5,000 of them. It is possible to get these out,

0:03:49 > 0:03:53but I've got to keep control of them under this little piece of cloth.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Do you mind if I get them out and show you them?

0:03:55 > 0:03:58They're very, very well behaved,

0:03:58 > 0:04:01but I need somebody to come and hold the container for me.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04Lots of volunteers. They're completely taken in.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07You look like you might be good, what's your name?

0:04:07 > 0:04:08Anya.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12Anya doesn't know she's about to become a magician's assistant.

0:04:12 > 0:04:17Now, Anya, can you feel the flies just flying around in there? Yeah?

0:04:17 > 0:04:19She thinks she can feel them,

0:04:19 > 0:04:22but she can't really, it's part of the trick.

0:04:22 > 0:04:24- Can you see any of them?- No.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26They're invisible to the naked eye.

0:04:26 > 0:04:30But we can get them out if I just open this. They shouldn't fly out.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33They should just stay on the leaves.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35If you listen carefully, you can sometimes hear them.

0:04:35 > 0:04:41- They make a noise like the meowing of a cat, except silent.- What?!

0:04:41 > 0:04:45If I just put this cloth over there like that,

0:04:45 > 0:04:47and I should be able to wake them up,

0:04:47 > 0:04:50and see if we can get them to come out.

0:04:50 > 0:04:51Just a little tap.

0:04:51 > 0:04:54The class not only believe the Peruvian Almond Flies exist,

0:04:54 > 0:04:57but that they're about to fly around the room!

0:04:57 > 0:04:59Just try it again.

0:04:59 > 0:05:04Ooh, there they are, whoa, there they are, they're out now.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06They're a little bit lively.

0:05:06 > 0:05:10They will eventually calm down, they just like to do that.

0:05:10 > 0:05:11OK, now that's good.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14Now that's good, they're very, very calm.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16If they get excit... Whoa!

0:05:16 > 0:05:18They must be strong to shift John around.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20Except that's amazing acting.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24- I just wonder, Anya, if I just lift that up, can you see them?- No.

0:05:24 > 0:05:28No, it's difficult to see them, isn't it? Whoa!

0:05:28 > 0:05:34They're quite... Way-hey! Oh, dear me.

0:05:34 > 0:05:38I nearly lost them there, they are very... Whoa!

0:05:38 > 0:05:40Gee! Oh!

0:05:40 > 0:05:42They're very... If I just pull them back now.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45I'll try and let you have a look.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48When they're in a big group like this, it is possible to see them.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50If I lift that up, can you see that?

0:05:50 > 0:05:52- Ah, that's a problem. - They've escaped.

0:05:52 > 0:05:57- They've got out. - I bet the class feels itchy already.

0:05:57 > 0:05:58Can anybody see them?

0:05:58 > 0:06:01No? OK, they're just above your head.

0:06:01 > 0:06:05Keep still. Oh, no, they've moved. They're over there.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08They're over there now. Oh, they've landed, keep still.

0:06:08 > 0:06:10No, they're up again. They're here.

0:06:10 > 0:06:14No, they're not there either.

0:06:14 > 0:06:18Ah, ah, I've got them, I've got them. No, I haven't.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20Oh, I see them, I see them now.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23There they are, coming over. They're a bit high.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26They're coming down. Here they are. Here they are.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29They're just there. I'm going to get them.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32Keep still, I'll get them. Perfect, there we are, we've got them.

0:06:32 > 0:06:36He's convinced the class he's caught them. Great skills.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38Now... Whoa!

0:06:38 > 0:06:40I'll try and put... Whoosh!

0:06:40 > 0:06:43I'm going to try and put them back in the box.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46The insects are not only invisible, they're not there.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49It's been an amazing trick. Time to reveal the secret.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52Close them up like that. Wonderful, we've got them.

0:06:52 > 0:06:56I have got a little bit of a confession to make.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01My wife doesn't actually work in a zoo,

0:07:01 > 0:07:05although sometimes when she comes home from work, she does smell a bit.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08In fact, I'm not a real teacher, I'm a magician.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11And your teachers and your parents

0:07:11 > 0:07:13have set you up to be filmed on a secret magic show

0:07:13 > 0:07:16called Help! My Supply Teacher's Magic.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19There's hidden cameras in the classroom filming you.

0:07:19 > 0:07:23We've got one up there and another one in that box over there.

0:07:23 > 0:07:25And there's one over here in this box here.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28Another one in this box here. So you can give them all a wave.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30THEY CHEER

0:07:30 > 0:07:32They're loving it. Look, he did it.

0:07:32 > 0:07:36John's brilliant invisible insect trick totally fooled the class.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40At the start of the lesson, I thought that he was really cool,

0:07:40 > 0:07:42and I wanted him to be my teacher next year.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45He got the pretend insects out of the jar.

0:07:45 > 0:07:49His volunteer, Anya, could feel them, even though they didn't exist.

0:07:49 > 0:07:53It was really funny, when he started running around.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56John made the class think the insects had escaped.

0:07:56 > 0:08:00- Above your head.- He caught them again to the excitement of the class.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02I thought it was real.

0:08:02 > 0:08:06John pulled it off - the class had no idea he was a magician.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09Would you realise your supply teacher was magic?

0:08:14 > 0:08:17Later on, James will also be going undercover as a supply teacher.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21- He's got goldfish that can spell. - Oh, wow.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24But will the class suspect something fishy's going on?

0:08:24 > 0:08:25But, first,

0:08:25 > 0:08:29John's going to teach you the secret behind a trick you can try at home.

0:08:29 > 0:08:31If you fancy yourself as a magician,

0:08:31 > 0:08:33here's a trick you can try on your mates.

0:08:33 > 0:08:38You need a pencil, a piece of paper,

0:08:38 > 0:08:42a 1p, a 2p and some scissors.

0:08:42 > 0:08:46If you haven't got them already, go and get them now.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48Go on. Meanwhile, John will wait here for you.

0:08:48 > 0:08:50Got them?

0:08:50 > 0:08:55OK, first draw around the 1p on the piece of paper.

0:08:55 > 0:08:59And cut out the circle. Remember to be careful.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05So you have a penny-sized hole cut in the paper.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08The challenge now is to push the 2p through the hole.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11But the hole is only the size of a 1p.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13How is it going to fit?

0:09:13 > 0:09:15Can you work it out?

0:09:15 > 0:09:17If you want to find out how it's done,

0:09:17 > 0:09:19we'll show you later in the show.

0:09:21 > 0:09:22This is Katherine.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25She never leaves an audience short changed,

0:09:25 > 0:09:28and is about to impress a lucky group at the museum.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36I'm about to show you one of the oldest magic tricks in the world.

0:09:36 > 0:09:44I've got one, two, three, four separate, solid silver rings.

0:09:44 > 0:09:48What I'd like you to do, Ben, is pop your finger across here for me.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51- Does that feel solid?- Yeah. - It does, doesn't it?

0:09:51 > 0:09:55- And can all of you hear the sound of the metal tapping?- Yeah.

0:09:55 > 0:09:56So we know that it's solid,

0:09:56 > 0:09:59but the strange thing is, even though it's solid,

0:09:59 > 0:10:03one ring will literally link clean through the other one.

0:10:03 > 0:10:07How did she do that?

0:10:07 > 0:10:10So we've got one ring linked up. Two rings linked up.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13She's done it again. And again.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17- Now can everyone here see the Mickey Mouse ears?- Yeah.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21- Yeah, can you see them?- Yeah.- Good, don't take your eyes off of them.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24We can see them, they're definitely linked.

0:10:26 > 0:10:29And now they're not! Awesome.

0:10:29 > 0:10:30Two and two.

0:10:30 > 0:10:34Now has anyone here ever felt like a superhero before?

0:10:34 > 0:10:38You can be the superhero. Blow, whenever you're ready,

0:10:38 > 0:10:41and you're going to blow these two metal rings apart.

0:10:42 > 0:10:47Wow, he blew the rings apart from over there. Can I get a rewind?

0:10:47 > 0:10:48Whenever you're ready.

0:10:48 > 0:10:52That trick was a... breath of fresh air. Ha-ha!

0:10:52 > 0:10:54When I blew it, it just came apart.

0:10:54 > 0:10:59It was pretty amazing, really. I still don't know how it comes off.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02I just didn't know what happened.

0:11:03 > 0:11:06But right now, we have something amazing for you.

0:11:06 > 0:11:10This is the Interactive Illusion.

0:11:10 > 0:11:13This is a trick where you can take part at home,

0:11:13 > 0:11:18but you'll need to come a little bit... Yeah, perfect.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20Here is Fergus.

0:11:20 > 0:11:23His hair might be messy, but his hands are quick,

0:11:23 > 0:11:25and his mind is sharp.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28Grab your pen, paper and calculator, and get involved.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36Now, we have a very special guest

0:11:36 > 0:11:40who's going to do a trick for you guys at home.

0:11:40 > 0:11:44It's the Queen. Well, kind of.

0:11:44 > 0:11:47The Queen is going to read your mind,

0:11:47 > 0:11:52but first of all we need a random thought for her to pick up on.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54So at home, grab a pen and paper,

0:11:54 > 0:11:57and write down any three-digit number,

0:11:57 > 0:12:00but where each individual number is different.

0:12:00 > 0:12:05So 432, 875,

0:12:05 > 0:12:08642... You get the idea.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10Have you got one?

0:12:10 > 0:12:14OK. Now reverse that number.

0:12:14 > 0:12:19So if you wrote down 752, you'll now have 257.

0:12:21 > 0:12:26Now take away the smaller number from the bigger number.

0:12:26 > 0:12:31In our example, 752 - 257.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34Don't worry, you can use your calculator to help you.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36I'll definitely need mine.

0:12:36 > 0:12:40Whatever answer you now have, reverse that.

0:12:41 > 0:12:46We'd have 495, which would reverse to 594.

0:12:49 > 0:12:53Now add those last two numbers together.

0:12:53 > 0:12:57We'd add 495 to 594.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00I'm going to wait whilst you do that.

0:13:04 > 0:13:10OK, great, now keep that number to yourself. Don't tell anyone.

0:13:10 > 0:13:14The Queen is going to read your mind

0:13:14 > 0:13:17and tell you what number you're thinking of.

0:13:30 > 0:13:31There you go.

0:13:31 > 0:13:35The Queen thinks that you're thinking of the number 1089.

0:13:35 > 0:13:38Pretty amazing. Did it work for you?

0:13:38 > 0:13:42Remember, don't write on any bank notes at home.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45Wow, Fergus and the Queen.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49Just a matter of time before she says, "Arise, Sir Fergus".

0:13:49 > 0:13:53Every week, we are bringing you the top five chart

0:13:53 > 0:13:55of the new magicians on the block.

0:13:55 > 0:13:59Me and my recliner, we go way back.

0:13:59 > 0:14:02I've got my sweets. I've got my laptop.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04Bring on the wizards.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06We asked you to send in clips

0:14:06 > 0:14:09of yourself performing your best magic tricks.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12We received loads of clips from all over the country.

0:14:12 > 0:14:16Each week, I will be choosing my five favourite Wannabe Wizards

0:14:16 > 0:14:17and showing them to you guys.

0:14:17 > 0:14:21Number five this time is James from Shrewsbury,

0:14:21 > 0:14:23with some amazing sleight of hand.

0:14:23 > 0:14:28There's nothing between those fingers, and nothing in that hand.

0:14:28 > 0:14:32What he's doing here is magic, so keep watching those fingers.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34A little puff of magic air there.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38And now he's throwing nothing into the empty hand.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43Whoa! He made that coin appear out of nowhere.

0:14:43 > 0:14:47Good skills but this next guy makes me laugh out loud.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49It's Oscar from Mortlake.

0:14:52 > 0:14:53Whoa.

0:14:53 > 0:14:55And from the side.

0:14:55 > 0:14:57Let's see that from the side.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59Just as cool.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01And then from the back.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04Ha-ha, and from the back, this gets me every time.

0:15:04 > 0:15:06But that's not all he can do.

0:15:06 > 0:15:11This next trick involves these two paddles with a fly on each.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14Now the interesting thing about these flies is, if you just swap.

0:15:14 > 0:15:17Whoa, you see that? One fly jumped to the other paddle.

0:15:17 > 0:15:19And just like that...

0:15:19 > 0:15:23And now it's going back again. There's no flies on Oscar.

0:15:23 > 0:15:28That was nice, and this is dice. Lawrence from Birmingham.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32This is great. Watch the dice in the box.

0:15:38 > 0:15:41Which side is it in? It's not in that side.

0:15:43 > 0:15:45And it's not in that side either.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48I know you know it's gone, but do you know how?

0:15:48 > 0:15:52You think he's sliding it from side to side, don't you, but watch this.

0:15:52 > 0:15:55Pow! The dice man cometh.

0:15:55 > 0:15:59Great, but if he'd played his cards right, he'd been at number two.

0:15:59 > 0:16:00I need the cards selected.

0:16:00 > 0:16:04This is the hands of Savvas from Beckingham.

0:16:04 > 0:16:05- Stop.- Yeah?

0:16:05 > 0:16:07He's also got a hand from someone else.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10It's the seven of diamonds. Remember that.

0:16:10 > 0:16:14Once you've done it, just place it face up into the pack, please.

0:16:14 > 0:16:17OK, now I need to use your hand.

0:16:17 > 0:16:20Take the hands so, yeah, so it's like a sandwich.

0:16:20 > 0:16:26Seven of diamonds, and a hand sandwich, my favourite.

0:16:26 > 0:16:28Stay with Savvas as he counts the cards.

0:16:28 > 0:16:33Now you need to remember that card too, it's the four of clubs.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35Something really amazing is about to happen.

0:16:35 > 0:16:38Four of clubs, I'm going to wave it.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41And once I've done that, I get both backs.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44See, I told you. That's great, but there's more.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47It's still the seven of diamonds, but wait for it.

0:16:47 > 0:16:51Wow, it's now the four of clubs on the back. That's crazy business!

0:16:51 > 0:16:55Who's my favourite though? I'm not going to tell you yet.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58Not before I put on my funny chart show voice.

0:16:58 > 0:17:00At five, it's James, and his appearing coin.

0:17:00 > 0:17:05And Oscar's detachable head is going up at four.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08Dice swap from Lawrence, puts him at three.

0:17:10 > 0:17:14And the two-sided cards of Savvas got him to number two.

0:17:14 > 0:17:15His trick was nearly my favourite,

0:17:15 > 0:17:18but out of the tons of clips of Wannabe Wizards,

0:17:18 > 0:17:21my top one this time was Sebastian from Leeds.

0:17:21 > 0:17:26And he's borrowed his mum's best wine glass and table cloth.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28Try and get hold of good cards,

0:17:28 > 0:17:31and the good cards are considered the aces, yeah?

0:17:31 > 0:17:33And I'm going to show you now how I get the aces.

0:17:33 > 0:17:36We'll see this red nine, try and get a red ace.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39The nine of hearts is at the front of the glass.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42He does his magic, and it's now the ace of hearts.

0:17:43 > 0:17:46That was no fluke, check it out.

0:17:46 > 0:17:50The nine of hearts again this time, but the ace of diamonds.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53Let's try with the black nine, see if it works.

0:17:53 > 0:17:55The nine of clubs.

0:17:55 > 0:17:59Hopefully this time it will. Has it not worked again?

0:17:59 > 0:18:02Oh, he's pretending it went wrong. See?

0:18:05 > 0:18:07One more time.

0:18:07 > 0:18:12And to prove why he wins the cup, he's going to turn it into...

0:18:13 > 0:18:17The ace of spades. Nice one, Seb, that was ace.

0:18:18 > 0:18:22Can't wait until next time for more Wannabe Wizards.

0:18:22 > 0:18:26There's another trick that you guys can use on your friends.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29I love magic, especially the big stuff,

0:18:29 > 0:18:35so today I'm going to make this pile of boxes completely disappear

0:18:35 > 0:18:40using magic, and this detonator.

0:18:40 > 0:18:43- PHONE RINGS - I'm sorry about this.

0:18:44 > 0:18:46Hello.

0:18:46 > 0:18:47Health And Safety?

0:18:49 > 0:18:50What's in the boxes?

0:18:51 > 0:18:52Only fireworks.

0:18:54 > 0:18:59Ah, when you put it like that, it does sound dangerous.

0:18:59 > 0:19:01I won't be a minute, here's what's coming up.

0:19:01 > 0:19:05Have you worked out the secret to John's challenge?

0:19:05 > 0:19:09If you haven't already got a pencil, a piece of paper, a penny,

0:19:09 > 0:19:13a 2p and some scissors, go and get them now. Go on hurry.

0:19:13 > 0:19:15Here's my fish.

0:19:15 > 0:19:19Watch what happens when James goes undercover in another school.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23Could it be your class? Could your supply teacher be magic?

0:19:24 > 0:19:28In Undercover Magic, we hide cameras in all sorts of places.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31Our magicians play tricks on members of the public,

0:19:31 > 0:19:34who don't know they're being filmed.

0:19:34 > 0:19:39Katherine is in this cafe to play a trick on Luc, Alice, Louis and Jay.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41They've been set up by Alice and Luc's mum,

0:19:41 > 0:19:44and they have no idea what's about to happen.

0:19:44 > 0:19:48Katherine's about to pay for her coffee.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50Hang on a minute, that's not money.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52That's loads of pages cut out from magazines.

0:19:52 > 0:19:54She can't pay with that.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57Excuse me? Hi, sorry to bother you.

0:19:57 > 0:20:02I don't have any change left, do you know if they accept notes here?

0:20:02 > 0:20:03They do, that's good.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06I can't seem to figure out how much these are worth.

0:20:06 > 0:20:08They all look exactly the same.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13Katherine knows that the paper's worth nothing.

0:20:13 > 0:20:17- Do you think I'll have enough?- They do too but they're being polite.

0:20:17 > 0:20:19Watch closely, trick coming up.

0:20:21 > 0:20:25Whoa! The paper turned into real money. Can I get a rewind?

0:20:31 > 0:20:36Old magazines to new tenners. That's the kind of recycling I like.

0:20:36 > 0:20:39Thanks very much. See you later.

0:20:39 > 0:20:41They can't believe what just happened.

0:20:41 > 0:20:46She had some card, and she just turned it into money.

0:20:46 > 0:20:50Here we go, that should cover it. See you later.

0:20:50 > 0:20:53I've seen magic before, but not like that.

0:20:53 > 0:20:55It's the moment you've been waiting for,

0:20:55 > 0:20:58a chance for you to learn how to fool your friends.

0:21:00 > 0:21:04Me and John challenged you to push this coin through the tiny hole.

0:21:06 > 0:21:09Come on, have you worked it out?

0:21:09 > 0:21:10How many of you got it?

0:21:10 > 0:21:13Maybe you think you could tear the paper?

0:21:13 > 0:21:17Uh-uh! That's not allowed. Come on, John, let's see it.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24Ah, very funny(!) Pushing the 2p through the hole.

0:21:24 > 0:21:28That's not the real secret, though, is it? Here's how.

0:21:31 > 0:21:36You fold the paper in half and drop the 2p into the hole.

0:21:36 > 0:21:41Then fold the top corners up, and the 2p drops through.

0:21:41 > 0:21:42Let's get a rewind.

0:21:42 > 0:21:46You fold the paper in half and drop the 2p into the hole.

0:21:46 > 0:21:49Then fold the top corners up, and the 2p drops through.

0:21:49 > 0:21:52Did you get it? Are you amazing already?

0:21:52 > 0:21:55Now you've all got something to show off with in the playground.

0:21:55 > 0:22:00This is James, the Mr Mysterious of magicians.

0:22:00 > 0:22:01He's going undercover

0:22:01 > 0:22:04as a supply teacher to do an incredible trick.

0:22:04 > 0:22:07Is it your school? Is it your class? And...

0:22:07 > 0:22:10Will this class realise that their supply teacher is magic?

0:22:10 > 0:22:12Let's find out.

0:22:13 > 0:22:14Here's a year six class.

0:22:14 > 0:22:18They don't know it yet, but James is about to take a lesson

0:22:18 > 0:22:21that puts a magic spell into spelling.

0:22:21 > 0:22:25The class don't suspect there are cameras hidden in their classroom

0:22:25 > 0:22:27or realise that James is not a real teacher.

0:22:27 > 0:22:28But can he keep it up?

0:22:30 > 0:22:32- Good morning, class. - Morning.

0:22:32 > 0:22:35We are going to be doing a project on the kind of animals

0:22:35 > 0:22:37that we'll be keeping at home.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41Would this, er, be your pet project, James?

0:22:41 > 0:22:44I have brought my pets in today.

0:22:44 > 0:22:46Look at that girl's raised eyebrows.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48- Would you like to meet them?- Yes.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51What's under there? I can't wait.

0:22:51 > 0:22:53Here they are, it's my fish.

0:22:53 > 0:22:57Ta-da, it's goldfish, and not just that, they're magic.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00She's so excited, she's playing the air drums.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03I have taught my fish to do a very special trick.

0:23:03 > 0:23:06You can't teach an old dog new tricks

0:23:06 > 0:23:07but you can teach a goldfish a trick.

0:23:07 > 0:23:10I've taught them how to spell.

0:23:10 > 0:23:15Hang on a minute, what did he just say? Let's rewind.

0:23:15 > 0:23:19- I've taught them how to spell. - That's what I thought he said.

0:23:19 > 0:23:23How on earth will James get the goldfish to spell?

0:23:23 > 0:23:25I've got to see this.

0:23:25 > 0:23:28We did it using flash cards, so we've got words like computer, apple.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31We've got aeroplane.

0:23:31 > 0:23:34- So would you like to see them do the trick?- Yeah.

0:23:34 > 0:23:36How about we take one of these?

0:23:36 > 0:23:38He gives a word for the fish to spell.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41Put it down on the table because if the fish see,

0:23:41 > 0:23:44then they can cheat, can't they?

0:23:44 > 0:23:48How do you spell "huh?!" Even if they saw, they'd forget in seconds.

0:23:48 > 0:23:51They can't talk because they're fish.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54So in order to tell you how they spell words,

0:23:54 > 0:23:57we're going to have to use these letter cards.

0:23:57 > 0:23:58We've got little tiles.

0:23:58 > 0:24:03Apparently they're going to spell using these letter cards.

0:24:03 > 0:24:04Yeah, right.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07I drop these into the bowl. Now, if you have goldfish at home,

0:24:07 > 0:24:09you must remember not to do this at home.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12You heard. Don't try this on your goldfish at home.

0:24:12 > 0:24:17And then last ones, so in these ones we've got V and Q and W.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19How in COD'S name will the fish spell?

0:24:19 > 0:24:22- What will they spell? - So they've got the letter tiles.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25We've got a word, have you looked at it yet?

0:24:25 > 0:24:28No, OK, for the first time, for everybody in the room,

0:24:28 > 0:24:30what word did you choose?

0:24:30 > 0:24:35- Chips.- Chips? Chips?- Yeah. - Like fish and chips?- Yeah.

0:24:35 > 0:24:39That's a bit of a cruel word for fish, isn't it? Fish and chips?

0:24:39 > 0:24:42Chips! I hope that doesn't hurt the poor goldfish's feelings.

0:24:42 > 0:24:45I'm going to do this so they don't see cos they're trying to see.

0:24:45 > 0:24:49Stop peeking. OK, so chips.

0:24:49 > 0:24:52I'm not going to call the letters out in case they hear.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54Is that right?

0:24:54 > 0:24:57All right. OK, guys, here's the moment of truth.

0:24:57 > 0:25:01Can we have the first letter of chips? Chips, please.

0:25:01 > 0:25:03Chips.

0:25:03 > 0:25:07Whoa! The fish really can spell. Unbelievable.

0:25:07 > 0:25:09That's awesome. So we're one down. OK.

0:25:09 > 0:25:14We're looking for the second letter of chips.

0:25:14 > 0:25:15Wow, great.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18This is a spelling bee like I've never seen.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20Have a bit of a drum roll on the desk.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23I love a good desk drum roll.

0:25:23 > 0:25:24Oh they got it, I.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27They got it, keep it going, keep it going.

0:25:27 > 0:25:28The next one, please.

0:25:28 > 0:25:31We're looking for the next one of chips.

0:25:31 > 0:25:36Yay, excellent. Now one more, they've got one more to go.

0:25:36 > 0:25:38Ah, they got it, yay!

0:25:38 > 0:25:41That was the best trick EVER!

0:25:41 > 0:25:44Those fish would be great at scrabble. They're incredible.

0:25:44 > 0:25:49Does anybody have any questions about what you've just seen? Yes?

0:25:49 > 0:25:52The class suspects something fishy's going on.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55So is that fake? Is that fake, guys?

0:25:55 > 0:25:58He's calling you a fake. Are we fakes? What do you think? Ooh.

0:26:00 > 0:26:03No, it most certainly is not fake.

0:26:03 > 0:26:06Not only can those fish spell,

0:26:06 > 0:26:09they've also got a great sense of humour.

0:26:09 > 0:26:10I've got to come clean.

0:26:10 > 0:26:14It's time for James to spell out what's actually just happened.

0:26:14 > 0:26:16I'm not really a teacher.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18I'm a magician.

0:26:18 > 0:26:20And not only that.

0:26:20 > 0:26:22In that silver box there, and just there,

0:26:22 > 0:26:26if you want to give a little wave, and the silver box at the back,

0:26:26 > 0:26:30you are currently being filmed for a new TV show on CBBC

0:26:30 > 0:26:35called Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic. What do you think?

0:26:35 > 0:26:40Look at their surprise when they realise they've been set up.

0:26:40 > 0:26:45He did it. James has totally tricked the class.

0:26:45 > 0:26:46Chips, please. Chips.

0:26:46 > 0:26:49- First James got the fish to spell chips.- Oh, wow.

0:26:49 > 0:26:52I was really amazed, and I didn't believe it.

0:26:52 > 0:26:56But then when I saw it, I was wondering how did they do that?

0:26:56 > 0:26:58Is that fake, guys? He's calling you a fake.

0:26:58 > 0:27:00Are we fakes? Oh.

0:27:00 > 0:27:04Then the fish spelled no, to fool the class even further.

0:27:04 > 0:27:05It's not fake.

0:27:05 > 0:27:07I was like, "Wow, this is amazing."

0:27:07 > 0:27:09James pulled it off.

0:27:09 > 0:27:13The class had no idea he was a magician.

0:27:13 > 0:27:16We totally got them, and they loved it.

0:27:21 > 0:27:24See you next week, but remember,

0:27:24 > 0:27:27if your teacher suddenly starts working wonders,

0:27:27 > 0:27:32you may need to shout, Help! My Supply Teacher Is Magic.

0:27:38 > 0:27:41Subtitles by Red Bee Media Ltd
