0:00:02 > 0:00:05Hi, I'm Katy B and this is Hit The Stage
0:00:05 > 0:00:08and I'm going to be taking a group of budding musicians and
0:00:08 > 0:00:11giving them the chance to perform on the biggest stages we can find.
0:00:17 > 0:00:19Budding DJ's go from playing their
0:00:19 > 0:00:22mum and dad's parties to rocking the decks at major festivals.
0:00:22 > 0:00:27Singers from singing hymns in church to performing to sell-out crowds.
0:00:27 > 0:00:30And song writers from sharing their songs with no-one to playing
0:00:30 > 0:00:33to an audience of thousands.
0:00:33 > 0:00:36Are you ready to Hit The Stage! We are!
0:00:36 > 0:00:37CHEERING
0:00:41 > 0:00:42MUSIC: "Lights On" by Katy B
0:00:42 > 0:00:46# I keep on moving with the lights on... #
0:00:46 > 0:00:49I've been lucky enough to make a life out of doing something
0:00:49 > 0:00:53that I love, singing and performing.
0:00:53 > 0:00:55# So you won't scare me with the lights on. #
0:00:55 > 0:00:59You may even know some of my hit singles.
0:00:59 > 0:01:02And now I'm in Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
0:01:02 > 0:01:06Why am I here? Well, it's simple. This year the city is the UK's
0:01:06 > 0:01:09first ever City Of Culture which means there's loads of massive
0:01:09 > 0:01:12music events happening all year round.
0:01:12 > 0:01:15And I'm going to help some local kids to Hit The Stage.
0:01:19 > 0:01:23I won't be doing it alone, I've got two local musicians to help me
0:01:23 > 0:01:25out when I'm not around.
0:01:25 > 0:01:27Glenn, who loves hitting the stage himself
0:01:27 > 0:01:29when he's rocking out with his band.
0:01:29 > 0:01:32The spark of creativity that they have really reignites
0:01:32 > 0:01:34the spark that you have so I'm really forward to the 8 months,
0:01:34 > 0:01:37and seeing where this is going to go.
0:01:37 > 0:01:40And Jenny who likes to take things a bit more slowly
0:01:40 > 0:01:43when she's teaching students how to play the harp or sing.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46It's really inspiring to think that these kids really have
0:01:46 > 0:01:48so much potential so I'm really,
0:01:48 > 0:01:52really excited to see what they're going to come up with.
0:01:52 > 0:01:56Last time we saw two of our group Hit The Stage in style.
0:01:56 > 0:02:00Eibhin singing in front of thousands at a City of Culture concert,
0:02:00 > 0:02:01and Hannah going on tour to Leeds
0:02:01 > 0:02:04and playing her brand new song in front of a great crowd.
0:02:09 > 0:02:11Starting her Hit The Stage adventure today
0:02:11 > 0:02:13is 12-year-old Chloe.
0:02:13 > 0:02:15Chloe loves to sing but up until this year
0:02:15 > 0:02:18she has struggled to turn her passion for music into reality.
0:02:21 > 0:02:25City Of Culture is all about giving musical opportunity to anyone
0:02:25 > 0:02:30who wants it and Chloe has grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
0:02:30 > 0:02:33She's part of the City Youth Choir that has been performing
0:02:33 > 0:02:37at major City Of Culture events all year. And she's loving it.
0:02:37 > 0:02:41It was amazing I would do it any day. I loved it.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44# Valerie
0:02:44 > 0:02:46# Valerie. #
0:02:46 > 0:02:49But Chloe has a very special reason for wanting to get up and sing.
0:02:49 > 0:02:53My mother played the violin, she sang. She was very musical like.
0:02:53 > 0:02:55But she passed away in June.
0:02:55 > 0:02:58MUSIC: "If You Could See Me Now" by The Script
0:02:58 > 0:02:59And she inspires me
0:02:59 > 0:03:03on an off day to turn out like her in terms of education and stuff.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06I can see why singing is so important for her
0:03:06 > 0:03:09and I love the fact she's getting involved in the City of Culture
0:03:09 > 0:03:13choir and I think the time is right for this girl to find her own voice.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16MUSIC: "You Bring Me Joy" by Amelia Lily
0:03:16 > 0:03:18# I've been thinking bout all the things...
0:03:18 > 0:03:20And as a first step on the road to singing solo I've
0:03:20 > 0:03:25organised for her to meet one of her musical heroes, Amelia Lily.
0:03:25 > 0:03:27I'm trying to figure out what to wear.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30I don't want to look too dressy and I don't
0:03:30 > 0:03:33want to look too causal so... Never thought in a million years I'd
0:03:33 > 0:03:37ever meet Amelia Lily, ever, even when I was watching X Factor. Nope.
0:03:37 > 0:03:39# Oh, you bring me joy
0:03:39 > 0:03:41# Yeah, you bring me sadness
0:03:41 > 0:03:42# So you bring the love
0:03:42 > 0:03:44# So forget all the madness
0:03:44 > 0:03:46# I'm done with all the pain
0:03:46 > 0:03:48# I'm done with all the happenings
0:03:48 > 0:03:50# So you bring me joy... #
0:03:50 > 0:03:54Hello, Chloe. How are you?
0:03:54 > 0:03:58Nice to meet you. I'm Amelia. I've heard you're a big fan of me.
0:03:58 > 0:04:00- Yeah.- I like your jumper.- Thank you.
0:04:00 > 0:04:02- I like your jeans as well, you've got style.- Thank you.
0:04:02 > 0:04:07Sit down and talk to me, yeah. So I've come to see you today to give
0:04:07 > 0:04:11you a boost. This is, like, one tip I'll tell you
0:04:11 > 0:04:14and never ever give up on whatever you want to do. Whether you
0:04:14 > 0:04:17want to be a singer, whether you want to play the violin whether
0:04:17 > 0:04:20you want to be a doctor, whatever you want to do in life, don't
0:04:20 > 0:04:22let anybody tell you tell what to do and if you want to do it you stick
0:04:22 > 0:04:26at it, cos one day, you know, you could be sat where I am. So give
0:04:26 > 0:04:30me a cuddle and I'll hope that this little chat's helped you, yeah?
0:04:30 > 0:04:31Yeah.
0:04:31 > 0:04:34With that advice to set her on her way I'll have a
0:04:34 > 0:04:37think about how Chloe can fulfil her dreams of singing solo.
0:04:39 > 0:04:43Last time I told 14-year-old fiddle player Conal that he's going
0:04:43 > 0:04:47to be centre stage at the world's largest Irish Music Festival,
0:04:47 > 0:04:49the All-Ireland Fleadh.
0:04:50 > 0:04:54Up till now, he's only ever played small events around the city,
0:04:54 > 0:04:56or at home to his dog.
0:04:57 > 0:04:58That dog's dancing.
0:04:58 > 0:05:01But in just three weeks he'll be playing on the main
0:05:01 > 0:05:04stage of the festival with the headline act, singer Cara Dillon
0:05:04 > 0:05:08and her band. It's a big step up for him and if he's going to be ready
0:05:08 > 0:05:13in time there's plenty of practice to be done. But what's this?
0:05:13 > 0:05:16It looks like Conal is going somewhere.
0:05:16 > 0:05:19I'm packing, going to the caravan.
0:05:19 > 0:05:23Going to do a bit of fishing, bit of surfing and stuff.
0:05:23 > 0:05:26A holiday to grandad's caravan before your big gig?
0:05:26 > 0:05:29But what about all your practise?
0:05:29 > 0:05:32Well that's a relief. Looks like he's packing his fiddle too.
0:05:35 > 0:05:39The tune Conal has to learn is much faster than anything he's
0:05:39 > 0:05:40ever done before.
0:05:44 > 0:05:46You worry about this new tune Conal?
0:05:46 > 0:05:49Well, it's just doing the standard and the speed of it.
0:05:49 > 0:05:51The speed of it. The best way to learn a tune is to
0:05:51 > 0:05:55whistle it. And whistle it at the speed that it's played.
0:05:55 > 0:05:56So that will
0:05:56 > 0:05:59give your wee brain a notion that here I have to play this
0:05:59 > 0:06:03at a certain speed. Would you rather be playing tunes or washing dishes?
0:06:03 > 0:06:05- Playing tunes.- Would you?
0:06:06 > 0:06:09That's good advice from grandad Tommy, whistle it.
0:06:09 > 0:06:10But Conal knows best
0:06:10 > 0:06:13and he's decided to listen to it on his tablet instead.
0:06:14 > 0:06:16It looks like
0:06:16 > 0:06:19a great day to get into the water but if you want to succeed in music
0:06:19 > 0:06:22sometimes you have to sacrifice the things you'd rather be doing.
0:06:22 > 0:06:26So I'm delighted Conal is choosing to focus on his practise instead.
0:06:26 > 0:06:27I have to learn it on me own,
0:06:27 > 0:06:31I have to learn it without the sheet music and stuff like that.
0:06:31 > 0:06:35I have to learn it by ear so I'll have another listen to it now.
0:06:38 > 0:06:41Like a lot of Irish traditional tunes there's no music
0:06:41 > 0:06:44written down so Conal will have to rely on his ear.
0:06:44 > 0:06:47It's going to be a tough couple of weeks for him
0:06:47 > 0:06:49but I know he can do it!
0:06:49 > 0:06:52But right now it's 14-year-old Darrell's turn to start his
0:06:52 > 0:06:53Hit The Stage journey.
0:06:59 > 0:07:02Darrell loves playing piano and has dreams of making it big.
0:07:04 > 0:07:08I'd love to become a famous composer, go around the world.
0:07:12 > 0:07:16He spends at least two hours a day practising on the old family piano
0:07:16 > 0:07:20under the stairs, and loves nothing more than composing his own tunes.
0:07:20 > 0:07:22Music's so important to me cos it's in me blood.
0:07:23 > 0:07:27But, it's not a love shared by his 10 year old brother Tyrese.
0:07:29 > 0:07:30Hey, missed me...
0:07:30 > 0:07:32And it can be tough to fit practise in
0:07:32 > 0:07:34when all your younger brother wants to do is wrestle.
0:07:34 > 0:07:35Go to your room now.
0:07:37 > 0:07:40Mum Sharon encourages his piano practise as much as she can but she
0:07:40 > 0:07:45thinks that he could be putting just as much effort into his homework.
0:07:45 > 0:07:47But I keep telling me you need to study as well
0:07:47 > 0:07:49and that's something he's not doing.
0:07:49 > 0:07:53I prefer to play piano instead of school work and homework
0:07:53 > 0:07:55and go for music.
0:07:55 > 0:07:58Darrell I would think is very obsessed with the piano you know
0:07:58 > 0:08:01because when it comes to his school work even
0:08:01 > 0:08:04when I go to interviews with the teachers they're actually saying
0:08:04 > 0:08:05he's day dreaming in class,
0:08:05 > 0:08:07and you don't realise it's me trying to...
0:08:07 > 0:08:10But you're saying, "Oh, you know you don't revise," and all this..
0:08:10 > 0:08:13- But you don't...- But I'm starting to, you can't see that?
0:08:13 > 0:08:15You've this weird idea that you can go into your exam
0:08:15 > 0:08:17and pass it without studying.
0:08:17 > 0:08:18I don't have it.
0:08:18 > 0:08:21- So what are you going to do about it?- Work harder.
0:08:22 > 0:08:26Hmm. I dunno, he doesn't sound that interested to me. I think
0:08:26 > 0:08:28I'd better go round and have a chat.
0:08:38 > 0:08:40- So would you play me something? - Yeah.
0:08:40 > 0:08:42Do you ever, do you ever write them?
0:08:42 > 0:08:46Um, I've wrote a couple of songs now, but they're
0:08:46 > 0:08:50not too good, they're just a couple of melodies like all this.
0:08:52 > 0:08:53Darrell told me that this
0:08:53 > 0:08:56old piano has been in the family for generations. He loves
0:08:56 > 0:09:00playing it even if it is getting harder to tune in its old age.
0:09:11 > 0:09:14- It's kind of...- It's lovely. - I got this...
0:09:14 > 0:09:17What you talking about "They're not too good," that's amazing.
0:09:17 > 0:09:20Darrel's own compositions sound great. It's obvious he puts
0:09:20 > 0:09:26the work in but mum Sharon wants to talk about the work he's not doing.
0:09:26 > 0:09:30See my homework, say in form class,
0:09:30 > 0:09:32if I don't have it done I just do it in form class.
0:09:32 > 0:09:35- That's the first I've heard of that. - Oh, really?- Uh-huh.
0:09:35 > 0:09:39- Well that's true. - Keeping more track now on homework.
0:09:39 > 0:09:40But you see with your music
0:09:40 > 0:09:43and stuff you would have needed to study as well? Yes?
0:09:43 > 0:09:48I failed maths. I had to go back to college when I was in 6th form,
0:09:48 > 0:09:51to go and do every evening to go and do my math classes.
0:09:51 > 0:09:52Right. OK.
0:09:52 > 0:09:53Do you hear that, Darrell?
0:09:53 > 0:09:55Because Darrell has this love for music
0:09:55 > 0:09:58and that he wants to go professional and everything
0:09:58 > 0:10:00but that's what I'm trying to get through to him. You need to
0:10:00 > 0:10:04- study as well. If he doesn't get his maths I'm going with him.- Ahh.
0:10:04 > 0:10:06And we're going to night class together which I think...
0:10:06 > 0:10:08Well, that's what my mum did.
0:10:08 > 0:10:10Is that right did she go with you?
0:10:10 > 0:10:11She used to give me a lift. Yeah.
0:10:13 > 0:10:15So we'll do your maths together.
0:10:15 > 0:10:16If doing maths classes
0:10:16 > 0:10:18with your mum isn't enough to get you studying,
0:10:18 > 0:10:21I don't know what is. I'll be keeping an eye on Darrel.
0:10:27 > 0:10:28Chloe has had a tough year
0:10:28 > 0:10:31and I know she dreams of making her mum proud by singing live on
0:10:31 > 0:10:35stage so I've sent Jenny to let her know that she's going to be stepping
0:10:35 > 0:10:39out from her choir and singing solo at a festival with a local band.
0:10:39 > 0:10:43- Oh, my God.- 5,000 people at the festival, so the band
0:10:43 > 0:10:46that are going to be playing with you they're a really, they're a
0:10:46 > 0:10:49- massive band, there's loads of them on stage.- That's amazing isn't it?
0:10:49 > 0:10:51Oh, my God.
0:10:52 > 0:10:55I'm giving Chloe the opportunity to sing any song
0:10:55 > 0:10:58she wants at a City of Culture festival with one of Derry's
0:10:58 > 0:11:02best live bands, Paddy Nash and The Happy Enchiladas.
0:11:05 > 0:11:09I know just how hard it can be to step on stage and sing in front
0:11:09 > 0:11:12of a crowd, especially if you've never done it before.
0:11:12 > 0:11:14It's all about confidence
0:11:14 > 0:11:17so I've got something a bit different in store for Chloe.
0:11:17 > 0:11:20A workshop with Nicky Harley from Derry's circus school, that
0:11:20 > 0:11:24should give her a great boost so she can Hit The Stage with confidence!
0:11:24 > 0:11:27I'm relying on you to give me confidence.
0:11:27 > 0:11:29OK. Well if you can do some of the things
0:11:29 > 0:11:32we do today you'll be able to do anything.
0:11:32 > 0:11:34Chloe is learning to be a clown.
0:11:34 > 0:11:38Clowning is all about focus, like any performance.
0:11:38 > 0:11:39All right go!
0:11:43 > 0:11:44THEY LAUGH
0:11:46 > 0:11:47SHE SCREAMS
0:11:49 > 0:11:52Being a clown is not as easy as you might think!
0:11:52 > 0:11:55A clown never gives up.
0:11:55 > 0:11:58That's great advice. Never give up, Chloe!
0:11:58 > 0:12:00# "Um, ah", went the little green frog one day
0:12:00 > 0:12:03# "Um, ah", went the little green frog. #
0:12:08 > 0:12:11Street theatre looks like a lot of fun and it's great to
0:12:11 > 0:12:15see Chloe just letting herself go but it's not called street theatre
0:12:15 > 0:12:18for nothing. It's time to take her new skills and hit the street.
0:12:23 > 0:12:25This is super scary. If Chloe can do this
0:12:25 > 0:12:28I reckon singing at a festival will be a breeze.
0:12:28 > 0:12:30You've got an audience here.
0:12:30 > 0:12:31Go for it, Chloe!
0:12:31 > 0:12:34# "Um, ah", went the little green frog one day
0:12:34 > 0:12:37# "Um, ah", went the little green frog
0:12:37 > 0:12:41# "Um, ah", went the little green frog one day
0:12:41 > 0:12:44# And the frog went, "Um, um, ahhh." #
0:12:45 > 0:12:46That took some bottle
0:12:46 > 0:12:49but I hope Chloe won't have to sing Little Green Frog at the festival.
0:12:49 > 0:12:53I think I've more confidence now cos it doesn't matter what people think,
0:12:53 > 0:12:56it's just, you're doing it, and at least you have the guts to do it.
0:13:01 > 0:13:04Along with their own musical journeys our Hit The Stage
0:13:04 > 0:13:07gang are also playing together as a City of Culture supergroup.
0:13:09 > 0:13:12They're recording their very own cover version of Snow Patrol's
0:13:12 > 0:13:16hit song Chasing Cars and making a music video to go with it.
0:13:17 > 0:13:19Conal!
0:13:19 > 0:13:21We've only got one more set of practice to go
0:13:21 > 0:13:24through before we go into the studio because the last thing
0:13:24 > 0:13:27we can do is go into the studio and start wasting time.
0:13:27 > 0:13:28All right?
0:13:28 > 0:13:31Let's take it from that chorus so it's after two...
0:13:31 > 0:13:33# If I lay... # Right?
0:13:33 > 0:13:36# If I just lay here
0:13:38 > 0:13:42# Would you lie with me and just forget... #
0:13:42 > 0:13:45Hmm, I dunno it's all sounding a bit flat.
0:13:45 > 0:13:48So does anyone have any questions, or any ideas?
0:13:48 > 0:13:51Anything that they want to bring forward, cos now's a good time.
0:13:51 > 0:13:54Can we make the song a little bit faster a little tiny bit faster?
0:13:54 > 0:13:57- Aye, because that's... - That's too slow.
0:13:57 > 0:13:58- Yeah. - Like this.
0:14:01 > 0:14:05That's a great suggestion from Hit The Stage drummer Jason.
0:14:05 > 0:14:06..three, four.
0:14:08 > 0:14:12# I don't quite know
0:14:12 > 0:14:14# How to say... #
0:14:14 > 0:14:16Yeah, that's starting to sound much better.
0:14:16 > 0:14:19That tempo change and that stop, perfect ideas.
0:14:22 > 0:14:24There still is a lot of individual practise they all need to do,
0:14:24 > 0:14:26it's still a bit ropey.
0:14:26 > 0:14:28Every time we do it it changes it slightly
0:14:28 > 0:14:31and that's not good enough, you know, most of them
0:14:31 > 0:14:34haven't been in a recording studio before so that will throw
0:14:34 > 0:14:35them a bit. So there is a lot of work
0:14:35 > 0:14:37that needs to be done before then.
0:14:37 > 0:14:40One, two, three, four.
0:14:41 > 0:14:44# Through it all... #
0:14:44 > 0:14:48'I love the intro like the harp and the violin how it just'
0:14:48 > 0:14:51comes in so softly and then it builds up and you got that
0:14:51 > 0:14:54amazing beat coming in, it's really like, gets you really pumped.
0:14:54 > 0:14:56Two, three, four.
0:15:04 > 0:15:08I've seen so much progression, like, just today, like, it's
0:15:08 > 0:15:10really starting to come together now, so it is.
0:15:13 > 0:15:15That's pretty good.
0:15:18 > 0:15:21If you've ever thought of forming a band with your mates, here's
0:15:21 > 0:15:23some top tips.
0:15:23 > 0:15:26I think when you're forming a band you know, it's important that
0:15:26 > 0:15:28you have a mixture of you know different characters.
0:15:28 > 0:15:30It's good that you've got good chemistry.
0:15:30 > 0:15:33You've got to be friends. You know, everyone's got to get on well.
0:15:33 > 0:15:35I think that's very important that you get on as friends.
0:15:35 > 0:15:39Obviously you need to be good at your individual instrument, as well.
0:15:43 > 0:15:45Hopefully you bring, sort of, different
0:15:45 > 0:15:48skills to the table. You know, whether maybe someone's more
0:15:48 > 0:15:50technically sort of gifted and
0:15:50 > 0:15:52maybe someone else is
0:15:52 > 0:15:53better at the business side of it,
0:15:53 > 0:15:54there's so much you need
0:15:54 > 0:15:56these days as a musician or
0:15:56 > 0:15:58a producer, to be successful.
0:15:58 > 0:16:00It really helps working in a team.
0:16:02 > 0:16:05I had been in different bands with different friends.
0:16:05 > 0:16:07And Alex had been in different bands
0:16:07 > 0:16:08with different friends and we just
0:16:08 > 0:16:10kind of all three of us play guitar,
0:16:10 > 0:16:14we like the same music and we just kind of said, "Do you want to get in
0:16:14 > 0:16:15"a garage and just play?"
0:16:15 > 0:16:17I think we started off just doing covers and then
0:16:17 > 0:16:19we just decided to write our own music
0:16:19 > 0:16:21and it kind of just went from there.
0:16:26 > 0:16:30Start your band with your friends, the people you know best.
0:16:30 > 0:16:35Try to get a great balance of skills and abilities in your band.
0:16:35 > 0:16:38Start with covers to practise then develop your own music.
0:16:38 > 0:16:39And have loads of fun.
0:16:43 > 0:16:45It's just two weeks before Chloe Hits The Stage
0:16:45 > 0:16:49and she's in the studio with the band to rehearse her song.
0:16:49 > 0:16:50I'll sing beside you because you need
0:16:50 > 0:16:52to get those two wee lines right.
0:16:52 > 0:16:55The song she's chosen to perform is the smash hit
0:16:55 > 0:16:59"Beneath You're Beautiful" by Emeli Sande and Labrinth.
0:16:59 > 0:17:00It's not an easy one to sing.
0:17:00 > 0:17:07# Let me see beneath you're perfect
0:17:07 > 0:17:09# Take it up now, boy, take it up. #
0:17:09 > 0:17:12We'll try the chorus. There's just something not sound right
0:17:12 > 0:17:14and let me take it off.
0:17:15 > 0:17:19# But I'm going to try
0:17:19 > 0:17:21# Let me... # Oh!
0:17:21 > 0:17:24I'm going to crack up. Can't get it right.
0:17:24 > 0:17:27I think Chloe's trying to sing this song in a key too high.
0:17:27 > 0:17:30She can't reach the high notes so the band change the way
0:17:30 > 0:17:32they play the song to see if it helps her voice.
0:17:43 > 0:17:46# You tell all the boys no
0:17:47 > 0:17:51# Makes you feel good, yeah. #
0:17:55 > 0:17:58Finding the right key for your voice is the most important
0:17:58 > 0:18:00thing for any new singer
0:18:00 > 0:18:03and I think that new version suits Chloe's voice much better.
0:18:03 > 0:18:07She now has two weeks to get it just right for the festival stage.
0:18:16 > 0:18:19Now, I like to play the piano but Darrel is obsessed with it
0:18:19 > 0:18:21and I think he needs to find out
0:18:21 > 0:18:25if his dream of making a life out of music has any chance of succeeding.
0:18:27 > 0:18:30Jenny is taking him to meet Neil Cowley, Neil is
0:18:30 > 0:18:33City of Culture's musician in residence. He's a super
0:18:33 > 0:18:36talented pianist and has played piano on some of the biggest
0:18:36 > 0:18:40hits of this century working with people like Emeli Sande and Adele.
0:18:42 > 0:18:45I've heard about you. I've heard all about you. The word is out in the
0:18:45 > 0:18:49city at the minute, yeah. So it true to say you're classically trained?
0:18:49 > 0:18:52- Yeah.- Right and you're trying to make that transition...
0:18:52 > 0:18:54There is no-one better for Darrel to work with to see
0:18:54 > 0:18:57if he's got what it takes to make it as a full-time musician.
0:18:57 > 0:19:00- I used to play Rolling In The Deep. - Right.
0:19:00 > 0:19:02- You played that one? - I did play on that one.
0:19:02 > 0:19:03I was watching on YouTube for...
0:19:03 > 0:19:05Oh, did you watch that clip of me filming it in the studio?
0:19:05 > 0:19:07- Go and do it.- Huh?- Go and do it. - You want me to do it?
0:19:07 > 0:19:09Yeah.
0:19:09 > 0:19:10So, do you play that one?
0:19:10 > 0:19:11No, I used to.
0:19:11 > 0:19:14What do you mean you used to? Why don't
0:19:14 > 0:19:16we re-learn Rolling in the Deep?
0:19:16 > 0:19:17- Yeah.- Yeah, is that a good idea? - Yeah.
0:19:17 > 0:19:20Cos I think that's what I played on it. Something like that.
0:19:20 > 0:19:21Yeah, that is it.
0:19:21 > 0:19:23I'm glad you're here to tell me.
0:19:29 > 0:19:32I'm already liking your hand position. That's very good.
0:19:32 > 0:19:37So you play that part, I'll play this part. Two, three and...
0:19:42 > 0:19:45A flat major. If you can do that with the fourth finger
0:19:45 > 0:19:47that would be perfect. Three and...
0:19:49 > 0:19:51That's it. Perfect.
0:20:04 > 0:20:05Well done. Yeah, you got it straight away
0:20:05 > 0:20:08but what's amazing about you is your technique. You know you've
0:20:08 > 0:20:13got that and you've got that over, 95% of people. You've got a classical
0:20:13 > 0:20:17technique, you're very fluid, you jump from one end of the piano to
0:20:17 > 0:20:19the other. No bother at all. You've got everything
0:20:19 > 0:20:24within your grasp technically for you to do exactly what you want
0:20:24 > 0:20:27for the rest of your life. I'm telling you, you really have,
0:20:27 > 0:20:30you know, because it's just, it's all there it's all natural.
0:20:30 > 0:20:32You know, it's been drilled into him or whatever it has,
0:20:32 > 0:20:36but it's working beautifully so it's possible that the only area
0:20:36 > 0:20:40that you need to think about developing is your ear.
0:20:40 > 0:20:42If Neil is telling him that he's good,
0:20:42 > 0:20:44then he really must have something special.
0:20:44 > 0:20:47Neil is a great teacher, and I know that Darrell wants to
0:20:47 > 0:20:51compose his own tunes so hopefully they can continue to work together.
0:20:55 > 0:20:58Chloe's chance to sing solo has finally arrived.
0:20:58 > 0:21:01She's at a family festival just outside Derry.
0:21:05 > 0:21:08After three weeks of hard work she's finally got to grips with her
0:21:08 > 0:21:12own unique version of the smash hit song "Beneath You're Beautiful" and
0:21:12 > 0:21:17just before she Hits The Stage she's thinking of a very special person.
0:21:17 > 0:21:19I think it's special that I'm at the festival
0:21:19 > 0:21:21and it's my first festival. Unfortunately,
0:21:21 > 0:21:24my mum can't be here with us but it's everything
0:21:24 > 0:21:29I do musically is for her and I'm sure she's looking down and I can't
0:21:29 > 0:21:34wait to just go on and make her proud so I'm very excited.
0:21:36 > 0:21:40The gig is in full swing and Chloe's moment has come to
0:21:40 > 0:21:43step into the spotlight. She has never sung on her
0:21:43 > 0:21:46own in front of an audience before so best of luck, Chloe.
0:21:50 > 0:21:52Hello, everybody!
0:21:53 > 0:21:56# You let all the girls go
0:21:57 > 0:22:01# Makes you feel good, don't it?
0:22:02 > 0:22:06# Behind your Broadway show
0:22:06 > 0:22:10# I heard a voice say, "Please, don't hurt me"
0:22:12 > 0:22:15# You carried on so long
0:22:15 > 0:22:19# You couldn't stop if you tried it
0:22:20 > 0:22:22# Ohhhh hoo
0:22:22 > 0:22:25# You've built your wall so high
0:22:25 > 0:22:28# That no-one could climb it
0:22:29 > 0:22:31# But I'm gonna try
0:22:32 > 0:22:37# Would you let me see beneath you're beautiful?
0:22:37 > 0:22:41# Would you let me see beneath you're perfect?
0:22:41 > 0:22:43# Bring it up now, girl
0:22:43 > 0:22:44# Bring it up now, girl
0:22:44 > 0:22:47# I wanna see inside
0:22:47 > 0:22:53# Would you let me see beneath you're beautiful tonight? #
0:23:03 > 0:23:05Fantastic, Chloe. Well done!
0:23:08 > 0:23:13That was absolutely amazing. That was just... It was unreal,
0:23:13 > 0:23:17really didn't expected that big of a crowd. Oh, it was absolutely amazing.
0:23:17 > 0:23:22I actually give all the credit to my mum, I think, cos she's just
0:23:22 > 0:23:25kind of like my lucky charm. She's just always there. Hope she's
0:23:25 > 0:23:28proud of me like so. I'm really proud of myself, as well.

0:23:50 > 0:23:52Is that a Cara Dillon hair cut you've got, hey?
0:23:55 > 0:23:57What kind of hair cut is that?
0:23:57 > 0:23:59But Conal can give as good as he gets.
0:23:59 > 0:24:01You don't even have hair to cut.
