0:00:48 > 0:00:50do the splits, flick a card,
0:00:50 > 0:00:53milk a cow, defy gravity,
0:00:53 > 0:00:59drum, and this kid shows you how to survive a zombie apocalypse.
0:00:59 > 0:01:00But before all that,
0:01:00 > 0:01:04it's time for the first stop on your journey to becoming epic.
0:01:04 > 0:01:07Do you like dancing? Do you like streets?
0:01:07 > 0:01:09Well, here's a cool street dancing move
0:01:09 > 0:01:12that will make you totally epic.
0:01:12 > 0:01:14Hi, I'm Turbo, I'm a dancer.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16I'm going to teach you a classic street dance move
0:01:16 > 0:01:17called the Resurrection.
0:01:17 > 0:01:22Turbo is cool. Just look at his hair and his moves.
0:01:22 > 0:01:25He's also an astronaut. That might be a joke.
0:01:27 > 0:01:30So with this move, you need to be laying down on the floor
0:01:30 > 0:01:32with your hands flat on the ground.
0:01:32 > 0:01:34I hope you've checked for dirt first, Turbo.
0:01:34 > 0:01:37From here, you're going to push with your hands
0:01:37 > 0:01:38up on to your left knee,
0:01:38 > 0:01:40raising your right leg up in the air.
0:01:40 > 0:01:43Ooh, power move!
0:01:43 > 0:01:46The next step from here is to swing your right leg down to the floor,
0:01:46 > 0:01:50push with your hands and pull yourself up until you're standing.
0:01:52 > 0:01:55- Sweet as a nut. - When you put those moves together,
0:01:55 > 0:01:57your Resurrection should look like this.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02Whoa! Crazy skills, Turbo.
0:02:02 > 0:02:05Rumour has it that Turbo performed this at the House of Commons.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07That might also be a joke.
0:02:09 > 0:02:12And that, my friends, is how you do a cool street dance move.
0:02:15 > 0:02:19Right, that's the first hit of epic-ness done and dusted,
0:02:19 > 0:02:22but do not worry. Our journey continues.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24If you've got a deck of cards in the house
0:02:24 > 0:02:27and you're bored of playing snap, then please, check this guy out.
0:02:29 > 0:02:34My name's Ben Hanlin, I'm a magician and this is how to flick a card.
0:02:34 > 0:02:37Ah, the classic card flick. Watch and learn.
0:02:37 > 0:02:40First of all, hold the deck face down in one hand
0:02:40 > 0:02:43with your thumb on top and your index finger on the bottom.
0:02:43 > 0:02:47Then, with your thumb, push off the top card about an inch or so.
0:02:47 > 0:02:49Now, with your ring finger, put pressure on the card.
0:02:49 > 0:02:51Then when the pressure's there,
0:02:51 > 0:02:54release it, the card will flick right off, like this.
0:02:55 > 0:02:58Whoa, hang on a minute there, Ben.
0:02:58 > 0:03:02Let's do a r-r-rewind on that. First, slide the top card off.
0:03:02 > 0:03:05Then, second, squeeze it with your finger and thumb.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08Then, when you're ready, let it fly.
0:03:08 > 0:03:09When you get good,
0:03:09 > 0:03:13you can flick the card off and catch it with your other hand, like this.
0:03:13 > 0:03:18- And that's how you flick a card. - Cheers, Ben. Thanks for that.
0:03:18 > 0:03:19On we go.
0:03:19 > 0:03:22If you thought that was good, this next one will send your epic-ometer
0:03:22 > 0:03:26into overdrive because it's one of the most epic gymnastic moves ever.
0:03:28 > 0:03:30Hi, I'm Naomi Wilkinson and I'm going
0:03:30 > 0:03:33to teach you how to do the splits.
0:03:33 > 0:03:36That's right, we're talking about the front splits.
0:03:36 > 0:03:40And that's right, CBBC's Naomi Wilkinson is going to show us
0:03:40 > 0:03:42how to do it. Ooh, I'm all excited.
0:03:44 > 0:03:48To master the splits, you need determination, hard work
0:03:48 > 0:03:51- and most importantly...- Legs. - ..patience.- That too.
0:03:51 > 0:03:53The splits are essentially one big stretch,
0:03:53 > 0:03:56and they aren't something that's going to happen overnight.
0:03:56 > 0:03:57To achieve them,
0:03:57 > 0:04:01you're going to have to practice lots of different stretches every day.
0:04:01 > 0:04:05OK, a word to the wise. Before you do any stretches, you must warm up.
0:04:05 > 0:04:08Five minutes of either running, fast walking, star jumps,
0:04:08 > 0:04:11skipping - anything to get your heart pumping.
0:04:11 > 0:04:13Once you've warmed up, it's time to stretch those legs.
0:04:13 > 0:04:18- Show us those stretches, Naomi.- Hold each stretch for about 30 seconds.
0:04:18 > 0:04:20It might feel a little uncomfortable
0:04:20 > 0:04:24but you should never, ever stretch to the point of pain.
0:04:24 > 0:04:29- So, when you feel warm and flexible enough, go for it.- Let's do this!
0:04:29 > 0:04:33So, you're going to start in a lunge, knee over your toe, toe facing
0:04:33 > 0:04:37forward, hands by your front foot, lower your back knee to the floor,
0:04:37 > 0:04:43tuck your back toes under and slowly slide back into the splits.
0:04:43 > 0:04:45Use your arms to take your weight.
0:04:45 > 0:04:46Only give your muscles as much
0:04:46 > 0:04:49or as little stretching as feels comfortable
0:04:49 > 0:04:51and keep your back knee facing the floor.
0:04:51 > 0:04:54Now, remember, you won't be able to do this straight away.
0:04:54 > 0:04:55Take your time with the stretches
0:04:55 > 0:04:59and then eventually you'll be able to do the front splits.
0:04:59 > 0:05:02There you have it, that's how you do the splits.
0:05:02 > 0:05:06- Does anyone know how to get out of these?- No, but thanks, Naomi. Bye!
0:05:08 > 0:05:11Are you feeling epic? We've only just started.
0:05:11 > 0:05:15There's still all this to come. We'll show you how to get to grips
0:05:15 > 0:05:17- with one of these beauties. - MOOING
0:05:17 > 0:05:21This super scientist will help you defy gravity.
0:05:21 > 0:05:25And this dude shows you how to hit things with sticks.
0:05:25 > 0:05:27But first, have you ever wondered what to do
0:05:27 > 0:05:30if zombies tried to take over your town?
0:05:30 > 0:05:31Then this kid can help.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36Who doesn't love zombies and their crazy dance moves?
0:05:36 > 0:05:39Actually, apart from Michael Jackson, most people,
0:05:39 > 0:05:42probably just think they're really terrifying.
0:05:42 > 0:05:44The legend of these undead brain-hungry creatures
0:05:44 > 0:05:46has been around for ever.
0:05:46 > 0:05:49They're totally not real, but imagine if they were.
0:05:49 > 0:05:53What would you do if you came face-to-face with one?
0:05:53 > 0:05:54Well, picture the scene.
0:05:56 > 0:05:57You're at the optician's,
0:05:57 > 0:06:02she's running through the different lenses until you can see clearly.
0:06:06 > 0:06:08When you can finally see,
0:06:08 > 0:06:11you discover your optician has turned into...a zombie!
0:06:11 > 0:06:13Grrr!
0:06:13 > 0:06:14What's more,
0:06:14 > 0:06:17there's a full-on zombie apocalypse kicking off in your town.
0:06:17 > 0:06:20You need a plan and we know just the man to help.
0:06:22 > 0:06:23Hi, I'm Charlie Higson
0:06:23 > 0:06:27and I'm going to tell you how to survive a zombie apocalypse.
0:06:27 > 0:06:31Actor, comedian and zombie author Charlie Higson knows
0:06:31 > 0:06:36everything there is to know about the walking dead. Creepy, but cool.
0:06:37 > 0:06:39OK, Charlie, what's the first tip?
0:06:39 > 0:06:43The main rule in a zombie apocalypse is, don't get bitten.
0:06:45 > 0:06:48Because that is how the zombie plague is passed on.
0:06:48 > 0:06:51Of course, an even better tip is, don't get eaten.
0:06:52 > 0:06:55Don't get eaten by a zombie.
0:06:55 > 0:06:57Definitely good advice to kick off with.
0:06:57 > 0:07:00- KID SCREAMS - What else should we know?
0:07:00 > 0:07:02It's very important to find somewhere safe to hole up.
0:07:02 > 0:07:04Somewhere that's easy to defend
0:07:04 > 0:07:06but where you can also be self-sufficient.
0:07:06 > 0:07:10A supermarket is not a bad bet. A very good supply of stuff to eat.
0:07:10 > 0:07:13Oh, great tip, zombie man...
0:07:13 > 0:07:15or maybe not.
0:07:15 > 0:07:20You will also need to arm yourself. Zombies are not nice creatures.
0:07:20 > 0:07:23Anything you can get your hands on, really.
0:07:23 > 0:07:27Cricket bats, golf clubs, bow and arrows, heavy frying pans,
0:07:27 > 0:07:32javelins left over from the Olympics. A tank is preferable, though.
0:07:32 > 0:07:35Right, we're tooled up. What next?
0:07:35 > 0:07:36If you do come face-to-face with a zombie,
0:07:36 > 0:07:39you're going to have to take it down.
0:07:39 > 0:07:41ZOMBIE: Ooh!
0:07:41 > 0:07:46Zombie folklore says the only way to stop them is to destroy the brain.
0:07:46 > 0:07:50It's not going to be a nice job, but if it's you or the zombie,
0:07:50 > 0:07:54- it's bye-bye, zombie. - We hear you, Charlie.
0:07:54 > 0:07:56It's definitely good night, zombie.
0:07:56 > 0:08:01And we won't be tucking it in or giving it a bedtime kiss. Oh, no.
0:08:02 > 0:08:06And that was how to survive a zombie apocalypse.
0:08:06 > 0:08:08Good stuff, Charlie. Be gone, zombies!
0:08:12 > 0:08:15From defeating evil to defying gravity,
0:08:15 > 0:08:19here's a science lady who will arm you with some amazing skills.
0:08:20 > 0:08:24Hi, I'm Fran Scott and I'm going to show you how to defy gravity.
0:08:24 > 0:08:30- Whoa!- Get a slinky and hold it up and let the rest of it unravel
0:08:30 > 0:08:31until it's nice and still.
0:08:31 > 0:08:35What we're going to do is drop this slinky and the top of it will fall
0:08:35 > 0:08:38but the bottom of the slinky should, for a moment,
0:08:38 > 0:08:41stay where it is and defy gravity.
0:08:41 > 0:08:43- No way!- Here goes.
0:08:45 > 0:08:48Hang on, that might just look like a dropped slinky
0:08:48 > 0:08:51but watch again when we slow it down.
0:08:51 > 0:08:54Keep your eye on the bottom of the slinky.
0:08:54 > 0:08:57Fran releases it but the bottom doesn't move.
0:08:57 > 0:08:59How do you explain that, then?
0:08:59 > 0:09:01When I'm holding the slinky,
0:09:01 > 0:09:04gravity is pulling it down but my hand is holding it up.
0:09:04 > 0:09:07When I let go of the slinky, the top of it falls
0:09:07 > 0:09:10but the bottom of it remains where it is just for a little bit
0:09:10 > 0:09:12and that's because it takes a while
0:09:12 > 0:09:16for the message, that I've actually let go of the top of the slinky
0:09:16 > 0:09:18to reach its bottom.
0:09:18 > 0:09:20But when it does, the whole thing falls to the ground.
0:09:22 > 0:09:25There you go, gravity defied.
0:09:27 > 0:09:30Our next stop on Planet Epic is for all you milk-lovers.
0:09:30 > 0:09:35That's everyone, right? Except me, I'm lactose intolerant.
0:09:38 > 0:09:40Check out how you milk a cow.
0:09:40 > 0:09:44You heard me, that milk you drink comes from this beautiful beast.
0:09:44 > 0:09:47Here's top farmer Gareth Wyn Jones to show you how.
0:09:48 > 0:09:53- I'm Gareth and I'm going to show you how to milk a cow by hand.- By hand?!
0:09:53 > 0:09:56We need to make sure that everything's clean.
0:09:56 > 0:09:59- Our hands, the bucket, even the old cow.- Rude!
0:09:59 > 0:10:02If we're not clean, we can get germs into the milk
0:10:02 > 0:10:06- and it can make you sick. - Oh, we do not want that.
0:10:06 > 0:10:08The cows need the routine.
0:10:08 > 0:10:12- They need to be milked twice a day at the same time.- Why?
0:10:12 > 0:10:16Keeps the cows happy, and we get plenty of milk.
0:10:16 > 0:10:20Cows are very big and strong, so you've got to be careful.
0:10:20 > 0:10:24Don't stand behind or don't stand in the wrong place.
0:10:24 > 0:10:27- Er, yeah, it might wee on you. - SPLASHING
0:10:27 > 0:10:30Once we're clean, we're ready to milk.
0:10:30 > 0:10:35- Now, this is an udder.- Udder. - And this is a teat.- Teat.
0:10:35 > 0:10:37- So, the bucket.- Bucket.
0:10:37 > 0:10:42You get into position and we start to milk
0:10:42 > 0:10:44so your thumb's at the top of the teat
0:10:44 > 0:10:46and your index finger comes round
0:10:46 > 0:10:51and each finger squashes as the milk comes through.
0:10:51 > 0:10:57So you squash, squash. Last one, get the last drop, release.
0:10:57 > 0:11:01Squeeze, release, squeeze, release. Milk out, in bucket, job done.
0:11:01 > 0:11:06- Once you've done that, you can do it two-handed.- Steady on there, Gareth.
0:11:06 > 0:11:10- Let's not get carried away. - And that's how you milk a cow.
0:11:10 > 0:11:13Nice one, Gareth. Make mine a pint of full fat.
0:11:15 > 0:11:19Right, time for one last dose of epic-ness.
0:11:19 > 0:11:22Ask yourself this - do you like hitting things?
0:11:22 > 0:11:24Do you want to be in a band?
0:11:24 > 0:11:27If your answers are yes, then this will be right up your street.
0:11:31 > 0:11:33They may usually be at the back of the stage
0:11:33 > 0:11:36but don't underestimate the importance of the drummer.
0:11:36 > 0:11:38When they're not on top of their kit,
0:11:38 > 0:11:41they're usually the most important member of the band
0:11:41 > 0:11:45holding all of the music together... most of the time!
0:11:45 > 0:11:48And, to show you how to do it, we caught up backstage with
0:11:48 > 0:11:51one of the best rock drummers in the business.
0:11:51 > 0:11:53Hey, what's up? I'm Rob with Enter Shikari
0:11:53 > 0:11:55and I'm going to teach you how to play the drums.
0:11:55 > 0:11:58DRUM ROLL
0:11:58 > 0:12:00First up is how to hold your sticks.
0:12:00 > 0:12:04Hold it between your thumb and your forefinger nice and loosely
0:12:04 > 0:12:08so the balance is good. It's the same on both hands.
0:12:08 > 0:12:11- Next up, it's how to hit a drum. - Sounds important.
0:12:11 > 0:12:13Keep a nice, loose wrist.
0:12:13 > 0:12:16Let the stick fall down and bounce back up off the drum,
0:12:16 > 0:12:18letting gravity do the work.
0:12:20 > 0:12:24Next up is doing single-stroke rolls on the drum.
0:12:24 > 0:12:26You're going to be doing them in groups of four,
0:12:26 > 0:12:29alternating between the right and left hand.
0:12:29 > 0:12:31One, two, three, four.
0:12:31 > 0:12:36Drum basics, then. Hold your sticks all nice and loosey-goosey.
0:12:36 > 0:12:39Let it hit the drum and bounce back, and count to four.
0:12:39 > 0:12:42When you get confident with that, you'll bring more of the drum kit in.
0:12:42 > 0:12:44You're going to do the four beats on the cymbal.
0:12:44 > 0:12:46On the first beat, we're going to have a kick drum
0:12:46 > 0:12:50and on the third beat, we're going to have a snare drum.
0:12:50 > 0:12:52So it should sound like this.
0:12:52 > 0:12:54SIMPLE DRUM BEAT One, two, three, four,
0:12:54 > 0:12:56one, two, three, four,
0:12:56 > 0:12:58one, two, three, four.
0:12:58 > 0:13:00So when you're happy with the beat, you can build up
0:13:00 > 0:13:02and get faster each time.
0:13:02 > 0:13:05One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four.
0:13:05 > 0:13:08HE PLAYS FASTER One, two, three, four.
0:13:08 > 0:13:10One, two, three, four, one, two, three, four,
0:13:10 > 0:13:12one, two, three, four... Drumming's epic!
0:13:13 > 0:13:16So, after you've practised a lot, got good, get your mates together,
0:13:16 > 0:13:19form a band and you could end up sounding something like this.
0:13:19 > 0:13:21ROCK MUSIC PLAYS
0:13:21 > 0:13:22Cheers, Rob.
0:13:25 > 0:13:27I bet his neighbours love him(!)
0:13:27 > 0:13:30So there it is, you just enjoyed 15 minutes
0:13:30 > 0:13:33of being shown how to be totally epic.
0:13:33 > 0:13:35If you've been paying close attention,
0:13:35 > 0:13:37you should now be able to try this,
0:13:37 > 0:13:40and this, and even that.
0:13:40 > 0:13:43Now, go forth and be epic at everything!
