0:00:58 > 0:01:01But before all that, it's time for your first course

0:01:01 > 0:01:03from the buffet of epicness.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Do you want to know how to be an amazing guitarist?

0:01:06 > 0:01:08Then check this out.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15Playing rock guitar is most definitely epic,

0:01:15 > 0:01:19and looks super cool. We've got one of the world's fastest guitarists

0:01:19 > 0:01:21to show you how to rock!

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Hey, I'm Herman Li, guitarist of the band Dragonforce,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29and this is how to be epic on the rock guitar.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Rock on, man!

0:01:33 > 0:01:37To really rock, you need an electric guitar and an amplifier.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40First, let's get the right height on the guitar strap.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44You don't want the strap too high - you want it around waist-height,

0:01:44 > 0:01:46so we can really rock out.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Right, we've got the kit - we're ready to rock!

0:01:51 > 0:01:55- But how do you play?- Let's start with playing an epic A minor chord.

0:01:55 > 0:01:58- Ooh!- With your index finger,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01press on the top string here, on the fifth fret.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04The frets are the lines across the neck.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06And two frets down, on the string below,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09use your ring finger and press it down.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11To hold the pick in your right hand,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13you use your index finger and your thumb.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17Strum down on the two strings of the frets which you're holding.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23To play a basic rock chord, you put your index finger on the top string,

0:02:23 > 0:02:26and then your ring finger two frets up.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29- CHORD PLAYS - Et voila - a rock sound!

0:02:29 > 0:02:33Once you're comfortable with this, you can move your fingers up and

0:02:33 > 0:02:36down the neck to play all different kind of chords - look at this.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40HE PLAYS CHORDS

0:02:41 > 0:02:44With enough practice, using the same chords,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46you can do something like this.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49HE PLAYS RIFF

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Now, that's how you become epic on the rock guitar.

0:02:54 > 0:02:55Cheers, mate!

0:02:58 > 0:03:01Right, that's your first slab of epicness over and done with.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04So, onto the next, and this one is going to make you look

0:03:04 > 0:03:06totally cool on the basketball court!

0:03:08 > 0:03:12And we've got a four-time Paralympian from Team GB

0:03:12 > 0:03:14to show you how to do it.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18I'm Terry Bywater. I play wheelchair basketball for Great Britain,

0:03:18 > 0:03:21and this is how to spin a ball on your finger.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24- Epic!- Firstly, find a comfortable way to hold the ball -

0:03:24 > 0:03:27I have two hands on either side, like this -

0:03:27 > 0:03:30- to spin... - OK - that looks easy enough.

0:03:30 > 0:03:34The faster the ball spins, the easier it is to land on your finger.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38When the ball's spinning, allow the ball to find your finger.

0:03:38 > 0:03:42Keep your finger really steady, and this will keep the ball rotating.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44Still sounds easy...

0:03:44 > 0:03:45To keep the ball spinning,

0:03:45 > 0:03:48you just need to keep tapping the side of the ball.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51With a bit of practice, you're going to be able

0:03:51 > 0:03:53to spin the ball for as long as you like.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56And that's how to spin a basketball on your finger.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01If you thought that was epic, then wait for this - it's tap-dancing,

0:04:01 > 0:04:04which is definitely a lot more epic than dancing...

0:04:04 > 0:04:05with a tap.

0:04:06 > 0:04:11We've got CBBC's very own tap diva Naomi Wilkinson

0:04:11 > 0:04:13to show you how to do it.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16Hi. I'm Naomi Wilkinson, and I'm going to teach you

0:04:16 > 0:04:17how to...tap-dance!

0:04:20 > 0:04:23To begin with, you're going to need a pair of tap shoes,

0:04:23 > 0:04:27and obviously a hard floor so you can hear your taps.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30Tap shoes are made with metal plates on the toes and heels,

0:04:30 > 0:04:32so they make sounds as they hit the floor.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35Hard floor and noisy footwear - got it.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37So let's...get moving!

0:04:37 > 0:04:40I'm going to show you how to do a shuffle ball change.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43Shu...ffle...ball...change.

0:04:43 > 0:04:47A shuffle is simply two taps - a simple forwards

0:04:47 > 0:04:50and backwards tap, all using the front, or the ball,

0:04:50 > 0:04:52of your foot - like this.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54Shu-ffle.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56Once you've got the hang of the shuffle,

0:04:56 > 0:04:58you can move onto the ball change - again, it's just making

0:04:58 > 0:05:02two very simple sounds, the first one with the ball of your right foot,

0:05:02 > 0:05:04slightly behind... TAP

0:05:04 > 0:05:06Then the ball of the left foot... TAP

0:05:06 > 0:05:08Ball change!

0:05:08 > 0:05:10Now, put those two moves together.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13Shu...ffle...ball...change.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16Shu...ffle...ball...change.

0:05:16 > 0:05:19Once you've got the hang of that, speed it up!

0:05:19 > 0:05:22Shu...ffle...ball...change. Shu...ffle...ball...change.

0:05:22 > 0:05:23Shu...ffle...ball...change!

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Or...super fast!

0:05:25 > 0:05:27- FAST TAP SOUNDS - Show off!

0:05:27 > 0:05:29Hold up! Let's see that again!

0:05:29 > 0:05:33Create the shuffle by swinging the lower half of your leg

0:05:33 > 0:05:35forward then backwards - shu...ffle.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37Then simply tap with the ball of your right foot,

0:05:37 > 0:05:40and the same again with a change of foot.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42Ball...change! Easy!

0:05:44 > 0:05:46That is how you tap-dance!

0:05:46 > 0:05:49Thanks, Naomi, you dancing diva!

0:05:49 > 0:05:53Hold tight, friends - there's a whole load more epicness on its way,

0:05:53 > 0:05:55because there's all this lot to come...

0:05:55 > 0:05:57This girl shows you how to make a horse look pretty.

0:05:57 > 0:06:01You can start at the top, and just work your way down.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04- This guy tells you how to make a coin disappear.- It goes.

0:06:04 > 0:06:07And this dude shows you how to do this.

0:06:08 > 0:06:12That's how you skim a stone like a world champion.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16Up first, fancy going somewhere epic for your holidays?

0:06:16 > 0:06:20This kid is going to show you somewhere truly out of this world.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24Mars, the fourth planet from the sun.

0:06:24 > 0:06:29It's Earth's nearest neighbour, but no human has ever set foot

0:06:29 > 0:06:30on the Red Planet.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33How would you survive if you were the first?

0:06:33 > 0:06:36Think it couldn't happen? Well, picture the scene.

0:06:38 > 0:06:41You're on your way to school, but really not paying attention.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43You walk straight past the bus stop

0:06:43 > 0:06:47and accidentally board a rocket, destination Mars!

0:06:48 > 0:06:49Aaargh!

0:06:49 > 0:06:53You're going to need to brush up on your Martian survival skills,

0:06:53 > 0:06:55and we've got just the fella to help.

0:06:55 > 0:07:00Hi, my name's Lewis, and I'm going to tell you how to survive on Mars.

0:07:00 > 0:07:01Meet Lewis Dartnell.

0:07:01 > 0:07:05He is a doctor in astrobiology and an expert in working out

0:07:05 > 0:07:07if life can survive on Mars.

0:07:07 > 0:07:10So what should we know if we take a trip

0:07:10 > 0:07:12to the fourth rock from the sun?

0:07:12 > 0:07:15My top tip for you is to remember to wear a spacesuit

0:07:15 > 0:07:18with an oxygen supply, because there's no oxygen in the air,

0:07:18 > 0:07:20so if you take off your helmet,

0:07:20 > 0:07:23you won't survive more than about 30 seconds.

0:07:23 > 0:07:27Good safety tip, Lewis, but there's also another reason

0:07:27 > 0:07:30why that helmet needs to stay in place, right?

0:07:30 > 0:07:32It's so cold on Mars.

0:07:32 > 0:07:36The average temperature is about -55, so without a helmet,

0:07:36 > 0:07:38your head would essentially freeze-dry,

0:07:38 > 0:07:43which would be like going from this fresh strawberry to this one here.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46- Which would be bad. - Yes, that would be bad.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49So, wrap up warm and helmet on at all times. What next?

0:07:49 > 0:07:54Take some water with you, because Mars is drier than any desert

0:07:54 > 0:07:57on Earth, and to make your stocks last,

0:07:57 > 0:08:00you'll have to drink your own recycled sweat and urine.

0:08:00 > 0:08:01SLURPING

0:08:01 > 0:08:05Hey! This doesn't taste like tea! And let that be a warning.

0:08:05 > 0:08:09You should never drink your own wee-wee juice. Ever!

0:08:09 > 0:08:14Finally, the radiation from the sun and outer space is much higher

0:08:14 > 0:08:18on Mars than it is on Earth, and this can be really bad for your health.

0:08:18 > 0:08:19The best option

0:08:19 > 0:08:21is to bury your house as a bunker

0:08:21 > 0:08:24underground, with an airlock door.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28Oh, great(!) You've come all this way and you'll be living

0:08:28 > 0:08:30- in the same sort of place you'd find a mole.- Oh!

0:08:30 > 0:08:33And so that was how to survive on Mars.

0:08:33 > 0:08:38Thanks, Lewis. I think I'll stick to a fortnight in Bognor instead.

0:08:38 > 0:08:40From Mars to magic,

0:08:40 > 0:08:44here's an epic trick that will win you loads of playground points.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48I'm Ben, I'm a magician and I'm going to show you a cool magic trick

0:08:48 > 0:08:51- on how to make a coin disappear. - Sounds good, magic man.

0:08:51 > 0:08:53Shazam!

0:08:53 > 0:08:55I'm going to try and make this coin disappear.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57Check this out, look.

0:08:57 > 0:09:00If I rub on my elbow, it should disappear. Look.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03Oh, no, that didn't work. Let's give it another go. Watch.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05Nice start, Ben(!)

0:09:05 > 0:09:06Awk-ward!

0:09:09 > 0:09:10It goes.

0:09:10 > 0:09:12Er, it's in your other hand.

0:09:12 > 0:09:13- What, there?- Yeah.

0:09:13 > 0:09:17- No, that's gone as well.- Ooh, now, that is pretty impressive stuff.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20OK, Johnny Magic Pants, tell us how it's done.

0:09:20 > 0:09:23You're going to take the coin and you're going to rub it up against

0:09:23 > 0:09:26your elbow with your fingers covering it.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28And you're going to let go...

0:09:28 > 0:09:29Awkward, again.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32The coin will fall on the table, but that's OK.

0:09:32 > 0:09:33That's a deliberate fail.

0:09:33 > 0:09:35Yeah, we knew that.

0:09:35 > 0:09:37The next bit is sneaky and it's where the trick happens.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40As I go to put this coin into this hand,

0:09:40 > 0:09:42I keep it in this hand.

0:09:43 > 0:09:48- And then I close this hand as if it has got the coin in.- Smooth.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50Finally, you need to make this coin disappear.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53As I pretend to rub it on the elbow,

0:09:53 > 0:09:55the hand with the coin in

0:09:55 > 0:09:58puts it down your shirt.

0:09:58 > 0:10:00Whoa. Next-level stuff.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02Nobody will ever see you do it,

0:10:02 > 0:10:06because they're too busy watching this hand.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09Then, slowly, let go.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14People will be amazed because the coin's gone,

0:10:14 > 0:10:18and some people will start to question this hand that is closed.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20This is when you've really got 'em,

0:10:20 > 0:10:22because you can open it and show them they're wrong.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24Love it!

0:10:24 > 0:10:27And that is how to do a cool coin trick.

0:10:27 > 0:10:31Right, can anyone lend me a spare coin? I'm skint.

0:10:31 > 0:10:34Next up on our epic journey is something completely different.

0:10:34 > 0:10:38If you like grooming and horses, then you're in luck.

0:10:38 > 0:10:39Hi, I'm Gemma.

0:10:39 > 0:10:43This is Dillis, and I'm going to show you how to groom a horse.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46Meet Gemma Wright, show-jumper and lover of all things horsey.

0:10:46 > 0:10:49She's here to show you the yeas and even the NEIGHS

0:10:49 > 0:10:51when it comes to horse-grooming.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54First, I'll show you how to pick out his feet. This must be done

0:10:54 > 0:10:56every day, and definitely before you ride

0:10:56 > 0:10:59and after you ride. Now, always work

0:10:59 > 0:11:01heel-to-toe in a downwards motion.

0:11:01 > 0:11:03This you can be quite firm with

0:11:03 > 0:11:05because he doesn't have feeling here,

0:11:05 > 0:11:09but this V-shape, called the frog, you have to be rather sensitive with.

0:11:09 > 0:11:13I always turn the hoof pick around and use the brush.

0:11:13 > 0:11:14Next, we're going to brush him.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16You'd normally start behind the horse's ears,

0:11:16 > 0:11:19in a downward motion, in the same direction as the coat.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22You can use this brush down his legs,

0:11:22 > 0:11:23and under his belly.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27This area is quite ticklish, normally, for them.

0:11:27 > 0:11:30To brush the horse's mane you can use a wide-tooth metal or plastic

0:11:30 > 0:11:34mane comb, and it's just like brushing your own hair, really.

0:11:34 > 0:11:37You can start at the top and just work your way down.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40You can also do his forelock with the same comb.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43Right, it's important when you're doing the tail

0:11:43 > 0:11:45to always stand at the side, in case

0:11:45 > 0:11:48he jumps and accidentally treads on you or, worse, kicks you.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51OK, so it's just like brushing your own hair.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54I always hold quite a big chunk in my left hand and then just

0:11:54 > 0:11:58let a little bit out, little bit more...until you're all done.

0:11:58 > 0:12:00And that's how you groom a horse.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05Unfortunately, we've only got time for one last dose of epicness,

0:12:05 > 0:12:09but for this we've got you a world champion from a very unlikely sport.

0:12:11 > 0:12:12I'm Dougie Isaacs

0:12:12 > 0:12:16and I'm going to shake you how to skim stones like a world champion.

0:12:18 > 0:12:20Dougie, you're my new hero.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23We all know everyone loves stone-skimming, but you might not

0:12:23 > 0:12:26know that there's a world championship held yearly in Scotland

0:12:26 > 0:12:30for it. Some winners can skim their stones over 50 metres!

0:12:31 > 0:12:33The main thing about stone-skimming

0:12:33 > 0:12:36is to get a nice round, flat stone,

0:12:36 > 0:12:39- or it just won't skim properly. - That is a flat stone.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41Grip the stone with your thumb and your forefinger,

0:12:41 > 0:12:44so you get extra spin when you throw it.

0:12:44 > 0:12:47I like to use a stone with a little ridge on it, so as you're

0:12:47 > 0:12:50throwing it, you get a little bit of extra spin off your finger.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53When you're throwing the stone into the water you have to get it

0:12:53 > 0:12:57as flat as you possibly can, and I think about knee-height is best.

0:12:57 > 0:13:01So when you put all your little tips together, it should go like this.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09Let's rewind. Get a flat stone with a ridge for extra spin,

0:13:09 > 0:13:12find a river - a snowy one is optional -

0:13:12 > 0:13:15and throw it at knee-height for maximum distance.

0:13:18 > 0:13:22Dougie, that's gone miles! You are cooler than the river around you.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25And that's how you skim a stone like a world champion.

0:13:25 > 0:13:26Thanks, Dougie.

0:13:26 > 0:13:29Right, that brings us to the end of 15 minutes

0:13:29 > 0:13:31of totally random epicness.

0:13:31 > 0:13:34You should now be able to do this...

0:13:34 > 0:13:36and this...

0:13:36 > 0:13:37and even that.

0:13:37 > 0:13:41Now go forth and be epic at everything!

0:13:46 > 0:13:50If you want to be really epic then head on over to the CBBC website,

0:13:50 > 0:13:54where you can watch all the videos again, and again,

0:13:54 > 0:13:58and again. So you can truly master your epicness.

0:13:58 > 0:14:02Epiiiii-iiii-iiiiiic!

0:14:02 > 0:14:05Subtitles by Red Bee Media Ltd
