0:00:47 > 0:00:49bhangra dance...

0:00:49 > 0:00:50do a cheerleading move...

0:00:50 > 0:00:52make some dancing goo...

0:00:52 > 0:00:53draw a comic...

0:00:53 > 0:00:55get rid of a spider,

0:00:55 > 0:00:59and this kid shows you how to survive a lightning storm.

0:00:59 > 0:01:01But before all that we've got to check in

0:01:01 > 0:01:03for our first appointment of epicness.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07What do you get if you mix snow and planks of wood? This!

0:01:10 > 0:01:13Freestyle skiing - the most epic winter sport going.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16It includes jumps, spins...

0:01:16 > 0:01:19and...whatever that is.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22But how do you become a freestyle skier, I hear you ask.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25To show you how, we've got this dude.

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Hello. I'm James Woods, or Woodsy,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31and I'm going to show you how to freestyle ski like a pro.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35Woodsy has opted for both long and short hair. I like it.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38The first thing you've got to do is learn how to ski.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42There, I've learnt it.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Obviously learning to ski takes a little bit longer.

0:01:45 > 0:01:47Next, you've got to get used to being in the air.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50And that's a small jump and we call it a pop.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56The more you practise, the easier and smoother your tricks will look.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01Next is the rails, and again we're going to start basic

0:02:01 > 0:02:03and work our way up.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06The key here is to keep nice equal weight on both skis.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09If you can't get yourself to a slope every day, skateboarding

0:02:09 > 0:02:11and rollerblading really helps.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Once you've done that and mastered your fear, in a couple of years

0:02:14 > 0:02:19you'll be a freeskier and you'll be able to do tricks like this.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Whoa, whoa, hold on, Woodsy, with long and short hair. A few years?!

0:02:22 > 0:02:25I haven't got that sort of time!

0:02:25 > 0:02:28But if you do, then you just need to learn to ski,

0:02:28 > 0:02:32do some small jumps, medium jumps, huge jumps,

0:02:32 > 0:02:36practise it for a few years, and you'll be able to do this.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39And that is how to freestyle ski like a pro.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44OK, that's our first taste of epicness over and done with,

0:02:44 > 0:02:46and if that's got you hungry for more,

0:02:46 > 0:02:47then get those leg muscles at the ready

0:02:47 > 0:02:51because we've got a cheerleader to show you a supercool stunt.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56Hi, I'm Luke. I'm going to show you a cheerleading jump - the toe touch.

0:02:56 > 0:03:00Five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three, four.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02Five, six, seven, eight.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06First, bend your knees and clasp your arms in front of you like this.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09- Got it.- Next you're going to push your arms up.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11- Yup.- And straighten your knees.- OK.

0:03:11 > 0:03:14Finally you're going to slice your arms down into a T,

0:03:14 > 0:03:18explode through your legs, jumping, landing on the balls of your feet.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21So that's arms out, legs up, jump and land. Easy.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Put those steps together and it should look something like this.

0:03:24 > 0:03:29Five, six, seven, eight, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32And that's how to do a cheerleading toe touch.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37Cheers to you, Lukey, my mate. You wonderful cheerleader.

0:03:37 > 0:03:39Now for something totally different.

0:03:39 > 0:03:43If you have a pen and paper then you can do this next epic little tip.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53I'm Ed Petrie and I'm going to show you how to draw your own comic strip.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Why? Because I can.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57So the first thing you need to do

0:03:57 > 0:03:59if you're going to draw your own comic strip is have an idea

0:03:59 > 0:04:02about what the comic strip is going to be about.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Nobody wants to read a comic about a man going to the shops.

0:04:04 > 0:04:09It'd be rubbish. So I've come up with an idea for a guy called Gary Rotter.

0:04:09 > 0:04:10He's the world's worst wizard.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13Now I need a story, so I was thinking he's rubbish wizard

0:04:13 > 0:04:16and he hasn't done his homework so he gets turned into a frog.

0:04:16 > 0:04:17But finds out he quite likes being a frog

0:04:17 > 0:04:20because it means he can catch flies with his tongue.

0:04:20 > 0:04:21The next thing to do is block it out.

0:04:21 > 0:04:23Don't worry too much about the drawing or anything.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25You just want to get the story down.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27- I've worked out I need five panels for this.- Panels?

0:04:27 > 0:04:29That's the squares that you draw the cartoon in.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32It looks a bit weird when I draw it out on the page.

0:04:32 > 0:04:35It's not symmetrical. So I'm going to do a title panel as well and have six

0:04:35 > 0:04:36and it will look nice and neat.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38So the next thing you're going to do is try

0:04:38 > 0:04:41and do a pretty good drawing in pencil.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45This may take you some time.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51That probably seemed really quick to you. It took hours.

0:04:51 > 0:04:55Anyway, there you go. My finished pencil drawing.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58- I'm happy with my drawing.- He's happy.- Now the scary bit. The ink.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02Now you can use any pen you like to do this, whatever suits you.

0:05:02 > 0:05:07I've found over the years that I quite like using a nib pen.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09Again, this may take some time.

0:05:12 > 0:05:16Whoa, what are you doing, Ed? Don't rub it out, we haven't seen it yet.

0:05:16 > 0:05:18- Now I've rubbed all the pencil off. - Ah.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21Finally, to colour it in, I like to use watercolours.

0:05:21 > 0:05:23I can be nice and messy with them.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25Again, this may take you some time

0:05:25 > 0:05:29so whilst Ed does that I'll remind you how to make your own comic.

0:05:29 > 0:05:34Get an idea. Draw it in the panels in pencil. Go over it in pen.

0:05:34 > 0:05:36Add a splash of colour and voila.

0:05:36 > 0:05:40- And that is how you design your own comic strip.- Nice one, Ed.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42Hey, if you think that's randomly epic

0:05:42 > 0:05:45then wait until you see what's still to come.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48This girl will tell you how to make some goo dance.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52This dude will show you how to bhangra dance.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56And this guy takes pest control to a whole new level.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59But first, there's one in a million chance of it happening.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02But if you're still worried about getting struck by one

0:06:02 > 0:06:06of the most epic forces of nature, then this kid can help.

0:06:06 > 0:06:09It strikes Planet Earth over eight million times a day

0:06:09 > 0:06:14and can generate heat five times hotter than the surface of the sun.

0:06:14 > 0:06:16We're talking lightning.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19So if you happen to find yourself in the same place that it strikes,

0:06:19 > 0:06:23best be prepared. Picture the scene.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26It's a glorious day and you've taken your dog out for some walkies.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29Suddenly, the weather takes a turn for the worse.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32So you and your pooch run around looking for shelter. Before you

0:06:32 > 0:06:36know it you're both dodging killer electric thunderbolts from the sky.

0:06:36 > 0:06:39It sounds like hard work. Don't let it happen to you.

0:06:41 > 0:06:42Luckily for you,

0:06:42 > 0:06:46we've got a survival expert who can help you avoid it.

0:06:46 > 0:06:47Hi, I'm Paul 'Chalky' White

0:06:47 > 0:06:51- and I'm going to tell you how to survive a lightning storm.- OK.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54Chalky's first tip is simple.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56Follow his system of counting to work out

0:06:56 > 0:06:59how near the lightning is to you.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01When you see the lightning, you've got to start counting.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03When you hear the thunder, stop.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06If the time delay between seeing the lightning

0:07:06 > 0:07:08and hearing the thunder is less than 30 seconds,

0:07:08 > 0:07:12that's the point you need to seek yourself good shelter.

0:07:12 > 0:07:16If your count is under 30 seconds, that means the lightning

0:07:16 > 0:07:18is less than six miles away.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21So at this point it's time to take cover.

0:07:21 > 0:07:25But it shouldn't just be anywhere. Right, Chalky?

0:07:25 > 0:07:27If you're in open ground you need to stay away from pylons,

0:07:27 > 0:07:30metal fences and water.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33Metal and water both conduct electricity

0:07:33 > 0:07:38so they're definitely out. There's also another big no-no.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41Whatever you do, don't take shelter under tall trees.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43The lightning will strike the tree

0:07:43 > 0:07:47and the sap is instantaneously vaporised, so the tree can explode.

0:07:47 > 0:07:48EXPLOSION

0:07:48 > 0:07:51An exploding tree? Definitely not a good place to be stood.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54So where should we head when lightning strikes?

0:07:54 > 0:07:57The safest place to go is into a building.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00Once in the building, be sure the TV's turned off

0:08:00 > 0:08:03and stay away from the electrical sockets in that building.

0:08:03 > 0:08:07So there you go. Head indoors and don't watch TV.

0:08:07 > 0:08:08That might sound a bit boring.

0:08:08 > 0:08:12Still, it's much better than being hit by lightning.

0:08:12 > 0:08:14And that's how you survive a lightning storm.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19Thanks for that, Chalky. I feel safer already.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23OK, let the journey of epicness continue. Do you like science,

0:08:23 > 0:08:27goo and dancing? I do. So does this girl. I'm very intrigued.

0:08:28 > 0:08:33Hi, I'm Fran Scott and I'm going to show you how to make some super-goo

0:08:33 > 0:08:35and a gooey dancing monster.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38Fran is a cool science demonstrator.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41And she knows it all when it comes to dancing goo.

0:08:41 > 0:08:48- All you need is some cornflour, some water and a speaker.- I knew that.

0:08:48 > 0:08:51So take one big spoon of water.

0:08:53 > 0:08:58And take about a spoon and a half full of cornflour.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00OK, with you so far, science lady.

0:09:00 > 0:09:02And then just mix it all up.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05Now there will come a point where the substance starts

0:09:05 > 0:09:09acting rather strange and it acts like a solid and a liquid.

0:09:09 > 0:09:14- At this point, it's a non-Newtonian fluid.- A non-Newtonian what-what?

0:09:14 > 0:09:17A non-Newtonian fluid is a substance that can act like a solid

0:09:17 > 0:09:21AND a liquid, depending on what you do to it.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24With this one it changes from being a liquid to a solid

0:09:24 > 0:09:27when we apply some force.

0:09:27 > 0:09:32So I should be able to get a nice handful of this goo,

0:09:32 > 0:09:34squash it together with force,

0:09:34 > 0:09:38but if I stop applying force...

0:09:38 > 0:09:42then it turns back into a liquid.

0:09:42 > 0:09:45- Yuck.- Yuck. That is pretty freaky, Fran.

0:09:45 > 0:09:48But didn't you promise us a dancing goo monster?

0:09:48 > 0:09:53Let's see how cool this goo can be by turning it into a dancing monster.

0:09:53 > 0:09:55Yes!

0:09:55 > 0:09:56Before we do this,

0:09:56 > 0:10:00let's cover our speaker in clingfilm to make sure we don't damage it.

0:10:00 > 0:10:02Remember, always ask your parent's permission

0:10:02 > 0:10:05before you trash the stereo.

0:10:05 > 0:10:10Now all we need to do is put some of our goo mixture on the speaker

0:10:10 > 0:10:12and play some music.

0:10:13 > 0:10:15Turn that music up, Fran.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18DANCE MUSIC PLAYS

0:10:18 > 0:10:20Whoa! What's happening there?

0:10:20 > 0:10:24The vibrations from the speaker are making the goo move up and down

0:10:24 > 0:10:26and form those ridiculous shapes

0:10:26 > 0:10:30as it switches between being a solid and a liquid.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35I'd never have guessed it. Goo loves a bit of dubstep.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39- And that is our dancing monster. - Goo-roovy! Ha-ha.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43From one kind of monster to another but this one has eight legs

0:10:43 > 0:10:47and freaks out a lot of people, including me.

0:10:47 > 0:10:48So if you want to be an epic superhero

0:10:48 > 0:10:52when one comes crawling your way, pay close attention.

0:10:53 > 0:10:57We have a heavy-metal loving marine biologist to show you how.

0:10:57 > 0:11:00- Hi, I'm Blowfish, expert biologist.- A bit cocky.

0:11:00 > 0:11:03I'm going to teach you how to get rid of a spider.

0:11:03 > 0:11:06First, you'll need a glass or container big enough to cover

0:11:06 > 0:11:10- the spider.- Spider? That's obese! I'm not touching it.

0:11:10 > 0:11:13Hopefully, you won't have to deal with a spider this big.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16This is actually a Chilean rose tarantula.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19Get a piece of card big enough to slide underneath the spider.

0:11:19 > 0:11:23Or just leg it instead. I mean, look at the size of it!

0:11:23 > 0:11:25Now be really careful when you're sliding the card under.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28- You don't want to hurt the spider. - Blowfish, you're so brave.

0:11:28 > 0:11:30You're my hero.

0:11:30 > 0:11:32Finally, keeping pressure on the container and the card,

0:11:32 > 0:11:37pick up the spider, take him outside and release him back into the wild.

0:11:37 > 0:11:38Or ask your parents to do it for you.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41And that is how you get rid of a spider.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45OK, time for one last dose of epicness.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48But don't be sad, because we're about to enter

0:11:48 > 0:11:51the colourful world of bhangra.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54BHANGRA MUSIC PLAYS

0:11:54 > 0:11:57Bhangra is one of the biggest forms of dancing in the world.

0:11:57 > 0:12:01It's so big it's even been danced by music royalty Nicole Scherzinger.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04# No, there is nothin' that can stop us... #

0:12:04 > 0:12:07Don't you want to learn how to do it? Of course you do.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11And we've got a top bhangra teacher to show you how.

0:12:13 > 0:12:16Hi, I'm Dev, and I'm going to show you how to bhangra dance.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19Get to it, Dev, you cheeky bhangra wizard.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21Firstly I'd like you to get a good bhangra tune.

0:12:21 > 0:12:23MUSIC: "Mundian To Bach Ke" by Panjabi MC

0:12:23 > 0:12:25Panjabi MC, classic.

0:12:25 > 0:12:28The first step I'm going to show you is called How To Change A Light Bulb.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31Put your right hand in the air and change a light bulb.

0:12:32 > 0:12:35Bend the knees and give yourself a bounce.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39Then repeat that move with the other hand.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42The second move we're going to do is called the Aeroplane.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44Put your hands in the air, bend those knees

0:12:44 > 0:12:47but this time you're going to imagine you're on an aeroplane and you're

0:12:47 > 0:12:50squeezing the luggage into the overhead compartment like this.

0:12:53 > 0:12:55Right, the third step is called the Butterfly.

0:12:55 > 0:12:57Now, we're going to put our left hand in the air

0:12:57 > 0:13:01and you'll be kicking out just like this.

0:13:01 > 0:13:04The fourth and final move is called the bhangra bounce.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06Put your hands in the air and let's bounce.

0:13:08 > 0:13:12Let's leave Dev bouncing and I'll remind you of the moves.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15One, change a light bulb whilst bouncing.

0:13:15 > 0:13:18Two, put your luggage in the overhead compartment.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20Three, do the butterfly.

0:13:20 > 0:13:25Four, do the bhangra bounce. Epic!

0:13:25 > 0:13:29- That's how you bhangra dance. - Thanks, Dev. Give yourself a bounce.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33Right, that brings us to the end of

0:13:33 > 0:13:3515 minutes of total random epicness.

0:13:35 > 0:13:38You should now be able to try this...

0:13:38 > 0:13:39and this...

0:13:39 > 0:13:41and even that.

0:13:41 > 0:13:46Now, go forth and be epic at everything!

0:13:50 > 0:13:54If you want to be really epic, then head on over to the CBBC website,

0:13:54 > 0:13:58where you can watch all the videos again...

0:13:58 > 0:14:00and again...and again.

0:14:00 > 0:14:04So you can truly master your epicness.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06Epic!

0:14:08 > 0:14:10Subtitles by Red Bee Media Ltd
