0:01:02 > 0:01:05But, before all that, we need to get our skateboard wheels

0:01:05 > 0:01:09in motion with your first taste of epic-osity.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Skating is one of the coolest things ever.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15There are loads of tricks to master.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19But if you want to learn the basics, you should kick off with this -

0:01:19 > 0:01:22the legendary ollie.

0:01:22 > 0:01:23Hi, I'm Georgie Winter.

0:01:23 > 0:01:27Today I'm going to teach you how to pop an ollie on a skateboard.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Georgie Winter is currently ranked fifth

0:01:30 > 0:01:32in the UK female skateboarders.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36So she definitely knows how to pop the most perfect of ollies.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41Right, Georgie, let's do this.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43First, get yourself into a comfortable ollie position

0:01:43 > 0:01:45which is your back foot on the tail of the board

0:01:45 > 0:01:47and your front foot flat across the board,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49an inch or so behind the front bolts.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51OK, Georgie, we know where to plant our feet,

0:01:51 > 0:01:53but what do we do with them?

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Crouch down, making sure your weight

0:01:55 > 0:01:57is distributed evenly between both feet.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59After you've got that, jump off your back foot.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Jump hard and fast so the tail hits the floor

0:02:01 > 0:02:03and bounces up into the air.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05This is called the pop.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07OK, we're popping to perfection,

0:02:07 > 0:02:11but we need to get really airborne to be cool. How's it done?

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Immediately after you've jumped, slide your front foot

0:02:13 > 0:02:15up the grip tape towards the nose of the board.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18This allows the board to level out and bring height to your jump.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Get the front foot slide right

0:02:21 > 0:02:24and that's when you'll start hitting some off-the-ground height.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28But there's one last thing to know if you want to get higher.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30Then bring both knees up to your chest -

0:02:30 > 0:02:33this allows the board to rise and level out - and then land it.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37OK, major rewind required.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41First up, pop the board by stepping down hard on the tail.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Next, slide your front foot to the end of the board

0:02:44 > 0:02:46to allow it to level out in the air.

0:02:47 > 0:02:51Finally, bring your knees up to your chest to let the board gain height.

0:02:52 > 0:02:53It's a tricky one,

0:02:53 > 0:02:57but before you know it, you'll be ollieing like a pro.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00And that is how you pop an ollie.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03So, think you're epic already? Then chill your boots,

0:03:03 > 0:03:06we've got a full-on epic-a-rama coming your way.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10If you play your cards right, you'll be able to shuffle like a pro.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12Hi, I'm Ben, I'm a magician

0:03:12 > 0:03:15and I'm going to show you how to shuffle a deck of cards.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20Ben Hanlin is a card-carrying legend. Watch and learn.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Firstly, you have to separate the deck into two halves.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26And we call this "riffling".

0:03:27 > 0:03:30Now, hold the cards with your thumb on the top

0:03:30 > 0:03:32and two or three fingers on the bottom.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36With your index fingers, push the backs of the cards.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Now, with your thumbs, release the pressure slowly

0:03:39 > 0:03:42so that you release one card at a time.

0:03:42 > 0:03:45When you get good, you can do it quicker.

0:03:45 > 0:03:46Simple.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49Now, place your four fingers on the bottom of the deck

0:03:49 > 0:03:53and grip them tightly, and place your thumbs on the top.

0:03:53 > 0:03:57Now bring the knuckles of your fingers together.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01Now slowly open your fingers and, as do, the cards will cascade.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03Is that as fast as it gets?

0:04:03 > 0:04:06When you've put all that together, it should look like this.

0:04:10 > 0:04:11OK. That's pretty fast.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14And that's how you shuffle a deck of cards like a pro.

0:04:15 > 0:04:17Thanks, Ben, that was magical.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20Well, not literally, but you know what I mean.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22So from card shuffling to tricking someone's mind.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25Want to know the secret? Obviously.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27Hi, I'm Chris Cox

0:04:27 > 0:04:29and I'm going to show you how to trick your mate's brain.

0:04:29 > 0:04:30Sounds exciting.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33Chris has sold out gigs at the Edinburgh Festival,

0:04:33 > 0:04:36has comedy eyebrows and cool card skills.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39To do this trick, you need a mate and mine is Bobby Lockwood,

0:04:39 > 0:04:43- who plays Rhydian in CBBC's Wolfblood. Say hello.- Hello.

0:04:43 > 0:04:45Bobby Lockwood just said hi to me!

0:04:45 > 0:04:47I'm going to show you a pendulum trick.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50- This trick works because of the ideomotor response...- What?

0:04:50 > 0:04:51..which is a psychological phenomenon

0:04:51 > 0:04:54which makes us do stuff without really knowing it.

0:04:54 > 0:04:55Easy for you to say.

0:04:55 > 0:04:56You need to make a pendulum -

0:04:56 > 0:04:59something heavy on the end of a piece of string will do. Like a ring.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01Ta-da!

0:05:01 > 0:05:02Get your friend to hold the pendulum

0:05:02 > 0:05:06between their index finger and their thumb. That would be you.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Keep your arm nice and straight. You're going to not move your arm,

0:05:09 > 0:05:12but you're going to imagine a wind coming through this room,

0:05:12 > 0:05:15which blows this pendulum side to side, left to right.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Start to imagine that wind and don't move your arm. There it goes!

0:05:18 > 0:05:20- Are you moving your arm?- No.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22Imagine the wind getting faster as it spins around.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24It makes the ring spin and the pendulum spin

0:05:24 > 0:05:27and it gets faster and faster. It's pretty amazing, isn't it?

0:05:27 > 0:05:29- Do you want me to tell you how it's done?- Go on, then.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32- The secret is the ideomotor response...- The what?

0:05:32 > 0:05:34..which is basically our brains sending signals

0:05:34 > 0:05:36to various muscles in our body without us knowing it.

0:05:36 > 0:05:40In this instance, it's sending a message to the muscles in your hand

0:05:40 > 0:05:43to gently and slowly move, which allows the pendulum to swing.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47But you have no idea it's happening. It's all in your unconscious mind.

0:05:47 > 0:05:48Ah! So the ideomotor response

0:05:48 > 0:05:52is when the brain tells the body what to do without you realising it.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54Epic.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57And that is how to trick your mate's brain.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00Your epic flag is nearing half-mast.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02To pull it proudly to the top,

0:06:02 > 0:06:05we have this bundle of brilliance to come.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08This fashionable female helps your parents out with these.

0:06:08 > 0:06:09I introduced my dad

0:06:09 > 0:06:11and now I can finally walk down the street with him.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14This wild man shows us how to build one of those.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17Perfect timing, starting to rain, I'm getting in.

0:06:17 > 0:06:21This sizzling sportsman shows you how to do this.

0:06:21 > 0:06:26But, first, this kid shows you how to survive a venomous snakebite.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32Snakes are epic.

0:06:32 > 0:06:34Around a fifth of them have a venomous bite,

0:06:34 > 0:06:38including one type found in the UK, the adder.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40Snake bites are unlikely.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43There are roughly 100 reported cases a year in the UK.

0:06:43 > 0:06:47But what would happen if it happened to you? Picture the scene.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51Your mate is handing out some jelly snake sweets.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53Your friends each take one and then it's your turn.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57But your jelly snake turns out to be a real venomous cobra.

0:06:57 > 0:06:59And it's very angry.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01KID SHRIEKS

0:07:01 > 0:07:03So what do you do if you get bitten by a snake?

0:07:03 > 0:07:05We found a biologist, with very spiky hair,

0:07:05 > 0:07:08who knows exactly what to do.

0:07:08 > 0:07:09Hi, I'm Blowfish.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12I'm going to tell you how to deal with a venomous snakebite.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15Let's hope you don't get bitten yourself, Blowfish.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17So, what's first?

0:07:17 > 0:07:20If you're walking where there are known to be venomous snakes,

0:07:20 > 0:07:22wear long trousers and a decent pair of boots.

0:07:22 > 0:07:26It'll help minimise the impact from any snake bite.

0:07:26 > 0:07:30OK, got that, so skirts are out. Gutted really!

0:07:30 > 0:07:34If you hear a deep hissing noise, stay very, very still.

0:07:34 > 0:07:35HISSING NOISE

0:07:35 > 0:07:37It means you're close to a snake and he's not happy with you.

0:07:37 > 0:07:41But, if you wait, he will eventually go away.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43Venom is very, very valuable

0:07:43 > 0:07:46and he doesn't want to waste it on the likes of you.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48What do you mean, waste it on the likes of us?

0:07:48 > 0:07:50We'll try not to be too offended.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53If you do get bitten, keep very, very calm.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56If you panic, your blood pressure will increase

0:07:56 > 0:07:59and you'll get the venom moving quickly round your body

0:07:59 > 0:08:01and that's not good.

0:08:01 > 0:08:02Yes, I'm calm, I'm calm.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05I've just been bitten by a snake, but I'm very calm.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09A correct identification of the right type of snake

0:08:09 > 0:08:11means you can get the right type of anti-venom

0:08:11 > 0:08:14and that can make a big difference when it comes to saving your life.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17It's even better if you can get a picture of the snake,

0:08:17 > 0:08:20though it's probably not the best time to be posing.

0:08:22 > 0:08:26Try and clean the wound with anything you can. Even a tissue will do.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28Hold the wound below the level of the heart.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31It will help reduce the flow of venom around your body.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33SIREN

0:08:33 > 0:08:36Get to hospital as soon as you can and seek medical attention

0:08:36 > 0:08:38and everything should be OK.

0:08:38 > 0:08:42Yep, when you say it that way, it sounds, er, dead easy.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45And that's how you deal with a venomous snake bite.

0:08:45 > 0:08:47Thanks, Blowfish.

0:08:47 > 0:08:49I think your friend might be getting a bit peckish, though.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52We're out of there and on to something completely different.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55Ever had your parents pick you up from the school disco

0:08:55 > 0:08:58and really embarrass you, because they're dressed like retro aliens?

0:08:58 > 0:09:02Well worry ye not, as this fashionista can help.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05Hi, I'm Ayishat, fashion stylist

0:09:05 > 0:09:07to some of your favourite music artists.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10Today I'm going to show you how to make your parents look cool.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13This is Ayishat Akanbi, stylish stylist of stars

0:09:13 > 0:09:16such as Labrinth,

0:09:16 > 0:09:17Cher Lloyd

0:09:17 > 0:09:20and JLS.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25And now she's going to help you style your parents. Get to it.

0:09:25 > 0:09:27Lesson one.

0:09:27 > 0:09:29Have you noticed how your dad's trousers sometimes can remind

0:09:29 > 0:09:34- you of that of a clown?- Yes. - Not so cool.- Wowsers trousers.

0:09:34 > 0:09:36These are cooler. I introduced my dad

0:09:36 > 0:09:38and now I can finally walk down the street with him.

0:09:38 > 0:09:40- Do it today.- Consider it done.

0:09:40 > 0:09:44Next up is cool kicks. What's cooler than cool trainers?

0:09:44 > 0:09:46So why are our parents still wearing pairs like these?

0:09:46 > 0:09:48I think we need to get rid of it.

0:09:48 > 0:09:52How about introducing your folks to some cool pairs like these?

0:09:52 > 0:09:55Bad trainers gone, cool ones in. Got it.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57A lot of our parents wear glasses. This I have no qualms with.

0:09:57 > 0:10:00But why do they wear glasses they were wearing when they were our age?

0:10:00 > 0:10:03Why not introduce your folks to a geek-chic pair like these?

0:10:03 > 0:10:07- I think they look pretty cool. - Geek and chic. Cool.

0:10:07 > 0:10:09And, finally, sometimes parents try a little bit too hard

0:10:09 > 0:10:11and start dressing like...like us.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14So if your mum's wearing a crop top, short shorts

0:10:14 > 0:10:17- and backwards baseball cap...- Which she does.- ..this is an absolute no.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20Instead, your mum should be wearing something like dark denim jeans,

0:10:20 > 0:10:24ankle boots, and top it off with a cool trilby.

0:10:24 > 0:10:28And this, my friends, is how to make your parents look cool.

0:10:28 > 0:10:29Thanks, Ayishat.

0:10:29 > 0:10:31Now if they can have a personality transplant,

0:10:31 > 0:10:33I could hang out with parents happily!

0:10:33 > 0:10:36I'm not sure I could survive in the wild with them,

0:10:36 > 0:10:39unless I had this man's assistance.

0:10:39 > 0:10:41Hi, I'm Paul "Chalky" White

0:10:41 > 0:10:43and I'm here to show you how to build the perfect shelter.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47This is Paul White, a survival expert.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50He's had 24 years of military experience.

0:10:50 > 0:10:52You name it, he's survived it.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54The first thing we need to do is to gather wood.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56Wood is the most important tool for the shelter itself.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58The wood will make the frame

0:10:58 > 0:11:00and the other materials will make the insulation.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02Let's go, let's try to find wood for our shelter.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06Chalky's on the look-out for three logs -

0:11:06 > 0:11:09two Y-shaped and one really long one

0:11:09 > 0:11:11to make the frame of his shelter.

0:11:11 > 0:11:14There's a smashing log down there. This is what I'm going to be using.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16These will be at the front of the shelter

0:11:16 > 0:11:19and we're going to interlock them. Nicely interlocked.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22Main beam will go up and sit on top.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25And that's the frame up and ready to go.

0:11:25 > 0:11:29What we need to look for now is some smaller boughs

0:11:29 > 0:11:32and this will go on to the shelter to act like a rib cage.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34They're just going to get dug into the ground...

0:11:35 > 0:11:37..like so.

0:11:37 > 0:11:41- As we start to build the frame, we snap them off.- What a man.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43And soon, it should look like this.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45Nice and solid, so they're not going to move.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48All we are going to do now is to make these gaps smaller

0:11:48 > 0:11:51and we'll do that by putting in smaller twigs.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53These are the twigs we've collected.

0:11:54 > 0:11:58- This is the coolest shelter I've ever seen!- The frame is done.

0:11:58 > 0:11:59The holes are smaller now,

0:11:59 > 0:12:01which means I just fill the leaf litter on top

0:12:01 > 0:12:05and, very quickly, I can get a good thermal barrier above me.

0:12:06 > 0:12:10Ah, the piece de resistance - the leaves.

0:12:10 > 0:12:12And there we have it, the perfect shelter,

0:12:12 > 0:12:15perfect timing, starting to rain, I'm getting in.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19You get yourself nice and dry. Cheers, Chalky.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21Time for one last dose of epic-ness

0:12:21 > 0:12:23and this next one is worth three points.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27This is Terry. All right Terry?

0:12:27 > 0:12:31And he has represented Great Britain's wheelchair basketball team

0:12:31 > 0:12:34in a massive four Paralympic Games. Yes, four.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37I'm Terry Bywater. I play wheelchair basketball for Great Britain

0:12:37 > 0:12:39and I'm going to show you how to shoot a three-pointer.

0:12:40 > 0:12:43In case you don't know, a three-pointer is when

0:12:43 > 0:12:46you shoot from behind that line and get the ball in like that.

0:12:46 > 0:12:50- Beautiful.- My first hit would be to feel comfortable with the ball.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53Get one hand behind, the other one to support it.
