0:00:45 > 0:00:48sign, "Hi, how are you?"

0:00:48 > 0:00:51Make ice cream, treat a burn,

0:00:51 > 0:00:53handle a crab,

0:00:53 > 0:00:54launch a rocket,

0:00:54 > 0:00:57and this kid shows you how to become prime minister.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00But before that, it's time to take your first step on the golden road

0:01:00 > 0:01:04to Epicville, population - you.

0:01:04 > 0:01:06Fancy jumping over strategically-placed obstacles?

0:01:06 > 0:01:09Whilst riding a horse? Who wouldn't?

0:01:11 > 0:01:14Horses are epic. Their shoes are meant to be lucky

0:01:14 > 0:01:17but the most epic thing about them is the amazing showjump...

0:01:19 > 0:01:23..the sport that saw Team GB win gold in the Olympics.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26So if you fancy a go at it, then please, keep watching.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Hi, I'm Gemma and this is Dillus,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33and we're going to show you how to jump a fence.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38Meet Gemma Wright, all-round horsey lady but very nifty at showjumping.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Check this out.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42And this.

0:01:42 > 0:01:44And this.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Epic!

0:01:46 > 0:01:49Like any sport, horse riding can potentially be dangerous,

0:01:49 > 0:01:52so make sure you take lessons from a qualified instructor

0:01:52 > 0:01:54and that you know the basics before you attempt to jump.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58Follow Gemma's example, don't jump until you're ready. Safety first.

0:01:58 > 0:02:02Boots, helmet, body-protector - let's do this!

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Before you start to jump, you need to make sure

0:02:05 > 0:02:07you and the horse are properly warmed up.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11So we're going to start off with a small cross pole.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Make sure you aim for the middle and look straight ahead.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18And when you want him to take off, just squeeze with your lower leg.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21Let's have a look at that again. Textbook!

0:02:21 > 0:02:24When you jump the fence, you want to maintain a central leg position.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26You don't want your leg to swing back and kick the horse,

0:02:26 > 0:02:29and you also don't want your body weight to lean and land on his neck.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31And once you've mastered all of that,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33you can move on to bigger and higher fences.

0:02:33 > 0:02:34Right, let's jump.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Boom!

0:02:38 > 0:02:41Woo-hoo!

0:02:41 > 0:02:45- Horses - they're epic. - That is how you jump a fence.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47On a horse.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Right, that's the first stop on the Epic Express done.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56But, fear not, the ride continues. Bored of French lessons at school?

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Then try learning a new way to communicate

0:02:59 > 0:03:01through the medium of sign.

0:03:02 > 0:03:06I'm Matt, and I'm going to tell you how to sign, "Hi, how are you?"

0:03:06 > 0:03:11This guy is a sign-tastic superstar. Watch and learn.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13First, to say, "Hi"

0:03:13 > 0:03:16all you have to do is wave at the person you're signing to.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18- All right, fella? - To sign, "How are you?"

0:03:18 > 0:03:20you put both your hands flat to your chest

0:03:20 > 0:03:23- and bring them both out with your thumbs up.- Understood.

0:03:23 > 0:03:27- Put them both together and you've got, "Hi, how are you?"- Dead easy.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31And that was how to sign, "Hi, how are you?"

0:03:31 > 0:03:33I'm good, Matt. Thanks for asking.

0:03:33 > 0:03:36On we go, and this is going to send the epic-ometer readings subzero.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38Super cool.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43I'm Aaron Craze and I'm going to show you how to make

0:03:43 > 0:03:45your very own ice cream.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49Yes! Making your own ice cream, the coolest of all desserts.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52Literally. But how do you make it?

0:03:52 > 0:03:56OK, for this recipe you're going to need, some ice cream cones...

0:04:05 > 0:04:08- ..some vanilla. - One tablespoon of extract.

0:04:08 > 0:04:09And you need a bit of flavour.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12I'm going to use popcorn. You can use whatever you like.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15So, what we need to do first is get the milk,

0:04:15 > 0:04:18the cream and vanilla essence in a pan and heat it up.

0:04:18 > 0:04:20So let's go.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23Get an adult to help. Do you want a fire in your house? Didn't think so.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26I'm going to warm this up and it needs to come to a boiling point,

0:04:26 > 0:04:28then you need to simmer it down, OK?

0:04:28 > 0:04:31Just so all the flavours come together.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34So, leave that to cool and fill another pan with hot water.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37And now we need to put the egg on top of the boiling water

0:04:37 > 0:04:39and pour in the sugar.

0:04:41 > 0:04:45OK. Now we need to make sabayon. That's what the French call it.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48Basically, it's just fluffy, eggy sugar.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53If you haven't got one of these electrical whisks,

0:04:53 > 0:04:55you can just use a hand whisk.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59It's doubling in size and it's getting light and fluffy.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02And that's exactly what we want.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05Now I can pour everything into the cream.

0:05:05 > 0:05:08In goes the egg and sugar mix.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10Now we're going to put in some popcorn.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13Stir, and put it to the side to cool.

0:05:13 > 0:05:14Now the mix has cooled down,

0:05:14 > 0:05:18all we have to do is put it into a container, freeze it, and voila,

0:05:18 > 0:05:20we have ice cream.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24So, you still need to stir it every hour,

0:05:24 > 0:05:26because when you make an ice cream,

0:05:26 > 0:05:29it needs to move and circulate while it's freezing.

0:05:29 > 0:05:31Remember that - every hour.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34Cup of tea.

0:05:34 > 0:05:36That's one hour gone.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39Stir it again and repeat every hour.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42After three hours...it's ready.

0:05:42 > 0:05:43It might take longer.

0:05:43 > 0:05:46All I have to do now is put it into a cone.

0:05:46 > 0:05:51Dip it in more popcorn for...extra popcorn.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54And that is how you make your own ice cream.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58Your epic tank is only half-full.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00To fill it up, we've got this greatness to come.

0:06:00 > 0:06:05- This guy shows you how to treat one of these...- Ah! I've got a burn!

0:06:05 > 0:06:07This dude shows you how to handle this fella...

0:06:07 > 0:06:09Keep his legs straight down so he doesn't get too upset.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12- And she tells you how to make this happen...- Oh!

0:06:14 > 0:06:17But first, do you want to be prime minister?

0:06:17 > 0:06:19This kid will show you how.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26Being the prime minister of the UK is most definitely epic.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28There have been 52 of them since Robert Walpole

0:06:28 > 0:06:31first held the post in 1721.

0:06:31 > 0:06:33Could you handle being in charge of the country?

0:06:33 > 0:06:37Think it would never happen? Well, picture the scene.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42You're on a school trip to the prime minister's house in London,

0:06:42 > 0:06:44Number Ten Downing Street.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47Whilst you're testing the big boss's chair out for size,

0:06:47 > 0:06:48you get a taste for it and decide

0:06:48 > 0:06:50that one day it will be yours for real!

0:06:50 > 0:06:54But how can you actually make that happen? Listen up.

0:06:56 > 0:06:57Hello, I'm John Pienaar,

0:06:57 > 0:07:00and I talk about politics on BBC Radio Five Live.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02And I'm here now to tell you what you have to do

0:07:02 > 0:07:05if you want to be our prime minister.

0:07:05 > 0:07:07John Pienaar knows everything there is to know

0:07:07 > 0:07:11about being prime minister because he's met loads of them.

0:07:11 > 0:07:15What's first then, clever politics man?

0:07:15 > 0:07:18It's going to sound boring, but you have to pay attention in class.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20You've got to do your best to pass your exams because, look,

0:07:20 > 0:07:24after all, no-one wants an ignoramus running the country.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26Understood, big man. I think.

0:07:26 > 0:07:28But after getting those super grades,

0:07:28 > 0:07:31the next step is to become a Member of Parliament,

0:07:31 > 0:07:32or an MP, as they're known.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35How do you get to become one of those?

0:07:35 > 0:07:37Maybe you start working for an MP, making the tea,

0:07:37 > 0:07:40helping them with their papers and all that sort of thing.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43And make them think maybe you'd be a good MP,

0:07:43 > 0:07:45then you've got to persuade them

0:07:45 > 0:07:49to let you stand in an election and get into Parliament.

0:07:49 > 0:07:50Election time!

0:07:50 > 0:07:53It's all about meeting local people, making friends,

0:07:53 > 0:07:56and convincing them that you could do a good job

0:07:56 > 0:07:58in Parliament as their MP.

0:07:58 > 0:08:01Do that, and they'll vote for you. Simple.

0:08:02 > 0:08:06So now you're an MP and you have to show that you're cleverer, sharper,

0:08:06 > 0:08:07brighter than the other MPs.

0:08:07 > 0:08:09So if you can do that well enough,

0:08:09 > 0:08:11maybe your party will look at you and think,

0:08:11 > 0:08:15"We want you to be our leader." And that means you're on your way.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18Become the leader of one of the big political parties

0:08:18 > 0:08:21and you're only one step away from Ten Downing Street.

0:08:21 > 0:08:22But it won't be easy.

0:08:22 > 0:08:27You'll have to beat your rivals in the race to become prime minister.

0:08:27 > 0:08:29You have to win a general election.

0:08:29 > 0:08:31You've got to convince the country

0:08:31 > 0:08:33you're the one they want to run the place,

0:08:33 > 0:08:36and if you can do that, then you are the prime minister.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40- You get the keys to Downing Street. - Yes! You've done it at the last!

0:08:40 > 0:08:44In your face, other leaders! You run the country.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Time to start putting those plans into action.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49First up, extending school holidays.

0:08:49 > 0:08:54- And that is how to become prime minister.- Great advice, John.

0:08:54 > 0:08:55Even greater coat.

0:08:58 > 0:09:03From Number Ten bliss to the epic Dr Chris. Ever had a minor burn?

0:09:03 > 0:09:04They're not pretty, unlike this man.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09I'm Dr Chris and this is how to deal with a skin burn.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11Burns or scalds are really common injuries

0:09:11 > 0:09:13and they can happen in an instant.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16Practically everyone will have one at some point in their lives.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18But do be careful, cos they can be serious.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22Burns happen when your skin comes into contact with something hot.

0:09:22 > 0:09:26They can also happen with chemicals, electricity, the sun, even fiction,

0:09:26 > 0:09:29- as anyone who's ever skidded across the carpet knows.- Yeah, that hurts.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31If you've got a big or a deep burn,

0:09:31 > 0:09:35you need to get an adult and seek medical attention quickly.

0:09:35 > 0:09:37I'm going to tell you how to treat a mild burn.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41This is when your skin goes red and is very painful. Ah! I've got a burn!

0:09:41 > 0:09:45- Actually, it's lipstick. Cherry flavour.- Seriously, though?

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Now, the most important thing when you've got a mild burn

0:09:47 > 0:09:50is run it under cold water for at least ten minutes,

0:09:50 > 0:09:53but don't have the tap on full blast.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56You should cool the burn down within 20 minutes of it getting burnt.

0:09:56 > 0:09:59Straight away is best and this will stop the burn getting worse.

0:09:59 > 0:10:02It sometimes helps to remove any clothing or jewellery

0:10:02 > 0:10:03away from the burn.

0:10:03 > 0:10:08Don't put ice or creams or greasy substances like butter on the burn,

0:10:08 > 0:10:09it could make it worse.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12The most important thing, no matter how serious your burn is,

0:10:12 > 0:10:16is to cool it down with cold water then, if you're still worried,

0:10:16 > 0:10:19get an adult or a doctor to give you some more help.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22That's how to treat a burn.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24Thanks, Doctor. So, after that medical epicness,

0:10:24 > 0:10:27there's no need to be angry if you get a burn.

0:10:27 > 0:10:30However, if you're feeling a bit crabby, meet this man.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35He's a heavy-metal marine biologist. Aren't they all?

0:10:37 > 0:10:40Hi, I'm Blowfish, I'm going to show you how to handle a crab.

0:10:40 > 0:10:42Oh, aren't they lovely?

0:10:42 > 0:10:44They have five pairs of legs, including those claws,

0:10:44 > 0:10:46which can sometimes get a bit nippy.

0:10:46 > 0:10:50So if you want to handle one as good as this man, then listen up.

0:10:50 > 0:10:54Firstly, find your crab. Rock pools are a cracking place to look for one.

0:10:54 > 0:10:58And here's one I found earlier. So, how to handle a crab.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02Start by placing your finger flat on the crab's back.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04That's going to stop him from scuttling away.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07Next, with your middle finger and thumb,

0:11:07 > 0:11:12grab the crab at either sides of his shell just behind the claws.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15- But don't touch the claws! - Then you've got your crab.

0:11:15 > 0:11:16He can't nip you,

0:11:16 > 0:11:19but keep his legs straight down so he doesn't get too upset.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22Then you can have a really good peek at him. You all right, mate?

0:11:22 > 0:11:23He's probably been better.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27- But of course, remember, always put them back.- Carefully.

0:11:27 > 0:11:31- And that's how you handle a crab. - Thanks, Blowfish.

0:11:31 > 0:11:35We're over the moon with how class you are with crustaceans.

0:11:35 > 0:11:36Speaking of moons,

0:11:36 > 0:11:39get ready for the launch of our last blast of epicness!

0:11:44 > 0:11:47Rockets are epic. I mean, just look at that.

0:11:47 > 0:11:50Rockets fly up into the air with such force that they pass

0:11:50 > 0:11:53through the atmosphere into outer space.

0:11:53 > 0:11:55If that's not epic, I don't know what is.

0:11:55 > 0:11:59Hi, I'm Fran, and I'm going to show you how to launch a rocket.

0:11:59 > 0:12:02You just need a small pot like these film canisters

0:12:02 > 0:12:06that come from old cameras, or these insides of chocolate eggs,

0:12:06 > 0:12:09- and some fizzy tablets. - Mmm, vitamin C.

0:12:09 > 0:12:14They're going to be our fuel. And you need some water.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16In real rockets, the fuel is burnt

0:12:16 > 0:12:19and that produces enough gas to give the rocket its push.

0:12:19 > 0:12:23In our rocket, we're going to be producing lots of gas as well,

0:12:23 > 0:12:24but not by burning things.

0:12:24 > 0:12:26We're going to be making gas

0:12:26 > 0:12:30simply by putting these tablets into this water,

0:12:30 > 0:12:35and that should produce enough gas to launch our pot just like a rocket.

0:12:35 > 0:12:40- So let's do this.- Yes! - But let's do this safely.- OK...

0:12:41 > 0:12:45So, you need to take your pot, fill it half full with water.

0:12:45 > 0:12:48We're going to put these tablets into the water

0:12:48 > 0:12:51and it's all going to happen a little bit quick,

0:12:51 > 0:12:55and hopefully, enough gas will be produced to launch them up.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58So, in the tablets go, lid on.

0:12:58 > 0:13:03I'm going to try and pop this on as well. Then we just wait.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06Five, four, three, two, one,

0:13:06 > 0:13:10lift off! That was amazing!

0:13:10 > 0:13:11Let's have a look at it again.

0:13:13 > 0:13:15And again!

0:13:15 > 0:13:18What happened was the tablet was reacting with the water,

0:13:18 > 0:13:20producing lots of gas,

0:13:20 > 0:13:26and enough gas to launch our container up into the ceiling.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29Right, that brings us to the end

0:13:29 > 0:13:32of 15 minutes of total random epicness!

0:13:32 > 0:13:34You should now be able to try this,

0:13:34 > 0:13:37and this, and even that.

0:13:37 > 0:13:41Now, go forth and be Epic At Everything!

0:13:46 > 0:13:51If you want to be really epic, then head on over to the CBBC website

0:13:51 > 0:13:56where you can watch all the videos again and again and again,

0:13:56 > 0:13:59so you can truly master your epicness.

0:13:59 > 0:14:02Epic!
