0:00:35 > 0:00:40But first, tray tables away and get ready for take-off on Epic Airways.

0:00:40 > 0:00:44Our destination is epic skipping skills.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Want to take your jump rope routines to the next level?

0:00:48 > 0:00:52Well, you're about to find out how to do just that.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55Hi, I'm Rachael, and I'm going to show you

0:00:55 > 0:00:57how to do an epic skipping trick called the leg wrap.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03That's epic! But it looks tricky.

0:01:04 > 0:01:08- So how is it done?- Start off in a hold position with your rope

0:01:08 > 0:01:10- like this.- I'm ready!

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Jump over the rope with your right leg sticking out

0:01:12 > 0:01:15and your right arm underneath your leg like this.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Uh-huh. Simple so far.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21Hold this position and jump again

0:01:21 > 0:01:23and the rope will wrap around your leg.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25Ah, leg wrap!

0:01:25 > 0:01:28Now bring your right leg across your body to unwrap the rope,

0:01:28 > 0:01:31swinging your left arm into a cross position,

0:01:31 > 0:01:32switching your legs over at the same time

0:01:32 > 0:01:36for the rope to come over your head and out again like this.

0:01:36 > 0:01:38That's blown my mind.

0:01:38 > 0:01:39I need to see it again.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44OK - wrap,

0:01:44 > 0:01:45unwrap,

0:01:45 > 0:01:46swing to the front.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Ah, I'm starting to get the hang of it.

0:01:50 > 0:01:51It's easy when you know how.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59And that's how you do the leg wrap.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01That was epic. Thanks, Rachael.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Once you've untangled yourself from your skipping rope,

0:02:05 > 0:02:09go dig out a deck of cards because it's time to learn a slick spin.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Hi, I'm Magical Bones and I'm going to teach you

0:02:13 > 0:02:16how to impress all your mates with a really cool card skill.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Whoo! Silky smooth, Mr Bones.

0:02:25 > 0:02:26So here's what happens.

0:02:26 > 0:02:31The card is going to be placed in between your middle finger and thumb

0:02:31 > 0:02:33and, using your right forefinger,

0:02:33 > 0:02:37you're going to spin the card and try and to keep it balanced

0:02:37 > 0:02:38on your middle finger.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Now, this is going to take a little bit of practice,

0:02:42 > 0:02:43so here's a quick tip.

0:02:43 > 0:02:48If you lick your finger and place it on the card, when you spin it,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51it helps it stick a little bit better.

0:02:51 > 0:02:52Hmm, sticky spitty.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56And that's how to impress your mates with an epic card skill.

0:02:56 > 0:02:57Thanks, MB.

0:02:58 > 0:03:03So you're slick at spinning cards, but are you as brilliant at bowling?

0:03:03 > 0:03:04If not, that's about to change.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Hi, I'm Hayley, and I'm going to show you

0:03:09 > 0:03:11how to bowl a strike every time.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Strike! How's it done, Hayley?

0:03:15 > 0:03:18First, you need to pick the perfect bowling ball for you.

0:03:18 > 0:03:20I'll need the lightest you've got.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24Pick up a ball with both hands and feel if the weight is comfortable.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26The higher the number, the heavier the ball.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28I probs need about a four.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30You should be able to hold the ball down by the side of you

0:03:30 > 0:03:32and swing it with ease.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35Got my watermelon ball. How do we bowl?

0:03:35 > 0:03:37Here's an important tip for you -

0:03:37 > 0:03:38do NOT aim at the pins.

0:03:40 > 0:03:41Excuse me?

0:03:42 > 0:03:44The pins are 18 metres down the lane,

0:03:44 > 0:03:46so it's hard to accurately aim at.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49There are seven arrows four metres down the lane.

0:03:49 > 0:03:50Aim to bowl the ball

0:03:50 > 0:03:52between the second and the third arrow from the edge.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54OK, don't aim at the pins,

0:03:54 > 0:03:58aim at the second and third arrows from the edge, got it.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00Where do we throw the ball from?

0:04:00 > 0:04:02It's good to start with a four-step approach.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05Stand in front of the foul line with the pins behind you

0:04:05 > 0:04:08and take four slightly-larger-than-normal steps,

0:04:08 > 0:04:10and add a half step in for a slide.

0:04:10 > 0:04:12And I want to slide, Hayley.

0:04:14 > 0:04:17If you bowl with your right hand, start on your right foot.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19Push your weight on the first step,

0:04:19 > 0:04:22swing the ball back and release on the fourth step.

0:04:23 > 0:04:24Strike again!

0:04:24 > 0:04:26So I push away on the first step,

0:04:26 > 0:04:29swing the ball back and release on the fourth step.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31And that's how to be epic at bowling.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35She surely can't get another strike.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38Uh-oh.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41Yes, she can! Thanks, Hayley.

0:04:41 > 0:04:42You've BOWLED me over.

0:04:42 > 0:04:43Eh? No?

0:04:45 > 0:04:48The Epic Express is nearly halfway there,

0:04:48 > 0:04:50but there's still a lot left to come.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52You'll learn how to make that,

0:04:52 > 0:04:54bake that

0:04:54 > 0:04:55and tie that.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59Before all that, fancy nipping to the International Space Station?

0:04:59 > 0:05:02Well, this kid's going to show you how.

0:05:03 > 0:05:07Being an astronaut is about as epic of a job as you can possibly have,

0:05:07 > 0:05:10but only a few hundred people have ever gone to space.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14So how do you get to go into the great unknown

0:05:14 > 0:05:17and visit the International Space Station?

0:05:17 > 0:05:22Well, we've got the factalicious Joe Tracini to tell you how to go from

0:05:22 > 0:05:25being an earthbound bore to interstellar superstar.

0:05:27 > 0:05:28First things first, before you even think

0:05:28 > 0:05:31about training to become an astronaut,

0:05:31 > 0:05:34you need to pass school, college and university,

0:05:34 > 0:05:38preferably taking engineering, science and medicine as subjects.

0:05:38 > 0:05:39Tick, tick and tick.

0:05:39 > 0:05:40Ha-hey!

0:05:40 > 0:05:42- Oof! - HE GROANS

0:05:42 > 0:05:43Then, if you're lucky enough,

0:05:43 > 0:05:45you get enrolled in the space programme.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48It can take up to two years of intense training

0:05:48 > 0:05:49until you're a qualified astronaut.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52It's here where you'll meet your competition.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54Eyes on the prize, everyone.

0:05:54 > 0:05:56You'll need to take survival classes,

0:05:56 > 0:05:59science lessons and also learn languages.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01International Space Station astronauts

0:06:01 > 0:06:04are required to speak English and Russian.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Hmm.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08Argh!

0:06:08 > 0:06:10You'll also need to train for the physical demands

0:06:10 > 0:06:12of being on the space station.

0:06:12 > 0:06:15Living in microgravity is not easy, so to train astronauts,

0:06:15 > 0:06:19they have to take a flight on what's called the Vomit Comet.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23Maybe you should skip lunch before that.

0:06:26 > 0:06:29The next thing you have to train for is spacewalking.

0:06:29 > 0:06:33Astronauts can spend up to six hours submerged in water,

0:06:33 > 0:06:36wearing a bulky suit to help simulate a spacewalk.

0:06:36 > 0:06:37Ah-ah-achoo!

0:06:37 > 0:06:41HE WHIMPERS

0:06:41 > 0:06:43Not all astronauts get to go up to space,

0:06:43 > 0:06:45but, if and when the big day does come,

0:06:45 > 0:06:47you'll have to get to Kazakhstan,

0:06:47 > 0:06:49cos that's where you'll be taking off from.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51I love Kazakhstan!

0:06:51 > 0:06:53To get to the International Space Station,

0:06:53 > 0:06:57you have to reach speeds of up to 17,500 mph.

0:06:58 > 0:07:00ARGH!

0:07:00 > 0:07:04That's 116 times faster than the fastest roller-coaster in the world.

0:07:04 > 0:07:05Mm, fact!

0:07:06 > 0:07:09On the station, it gets really interesting

0:07:09 > 0:07:12when you go to the toilet, because you actually have to strap yourself

0:07:12 > 0:07:16onto the toilet and the waste gets sucked out like a vacuum cleaner.

0:07:19 > 0:07:22OK. Best be careful, then.

0:07:22 > 0:07:23And that's how you get into space.

0:07:25 > 0:07:26See you later, Joe.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31Right, we're heading back down to Earth,

0:07:31 > 0:07:33and have you still got that skipping rope knocking about?

0:07:33 > 0:07:38Good, because we're about to show you how to tie a knot in it.

0:07:38 > 0:07:41Hi, I'm Alexandra and I'm going to show you how to tie an epic knot.

0:07:41 > 0:07:43- No, you're KNOT!- Yes, I am.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45It's called the bowline.

0:07:45 > 0:07:47Cool, so how do you tie it?

0:07:47 > 0:07:50There's a rhyme which will help you to remember how to tie this knot.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53There is a bunny, comes out of the hole,

0:07:53 > 0:07:55goes around the tree and goes back into the hole.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57It's as easy as that.

0:07:57 > 0:07:58The rabbit does what now?

0:07:58 > 0:08:00Let me break it down for you.

0:08:00 > 0:08:02The end of the rope is the bunny.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Make a small loop and that's the hole.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07The bunny goes up through the hole...

0:08:09 > 0:08:12..then goes around the tree -

0:08:12 > 0:08:13and that's the tree...

0:08:15 > 0:08:17..and then goes back down into the hole.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22Oh, that's not rocket science at all.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25Give the bunny a hard pull to tighten the knot.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28Let's see that again. Call the end of your rope a bunny.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30Make a loop and pass the end through it.

0:08:31 > 0:08:35Next, bring the short end around the back of the long end

0:08:35 > 0:08:39and pass it back down and through loop again.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42Voila, you've got a bowline.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45You can loosen it really easily and untie it when you're done.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48Ah, just give the knot a pull and it's untied.

0:08:48 > 0:08:51- Nice. - And that's how you tie an epic knot.

0:08:51 > 0:08:53Thank you, Alexandra.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56Next, could your wardrobe be just that bit more epic?

0:08:56 > 0:09:00Well, you're about to find out how to customise your clothes.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03Hi, I'm Jamie Jo, and I'm going to teach you a life skill

0:09:03 > 0:09:06that turns your plain old T-shirt

0:09:06 > 0:09:08into an epically cool T-shirt.

0:09:08 > 0:09:09Hey, how do I do that?

0:09:11 > 0:09:14To customise your T-shirt, you're going to need a plain T-shirt,

0:09:14 > 0:09:18some coloured or patterned fabric, a needle and thread or fabric glue,

0:09:18 > 0:09:21plain paper, a marker pen and a pair of scissors.

0:09:21 > 0:09:23Got my T-shirt ready. Let's do this.

0:09:25 > 0:09:28We're going to fold out our fabric onto our table,

0:09:28 > 0:09:32then we're going to cut a 5cm strip down the long side of the fabric.

0:09:33 > 0:09:36You're going to need two of these strips.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38Got my strips. What's next?

0:09:38 > 0:09:39Using our sheet of paper,

0:09:39 > 0:09:41we're going to cut a pocket shape out

0:09:41 > 0:09:45and place that over our fabric to cut around.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Nice tip, Jamie Jo.

0:09:47 > 0:09:49We're going to take our patterned pocket,

0:09:49 > 0:09:50place it on top of the light blue,

0:09:50 > 0:09:54leaving a little bit poking out at the top and then cut it out.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57More cutting? When can I get sewing?

0:09:57 > 0:09:58Once your fabric is all cut out,

0:09:58 > 0:10:02we're going to lay out our T-shirt and get sewing.

0:10:02 > 0:10:03Yes!

0:10:04 > 0:10:07Taking a strip of our fabric, we're going to fold this in half

0:10:07 > 0:10:10and line it up with the edge of one of our sleeves.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Tie a knot on the end of your thread and start sewing

0:10:13 > 0:10:16from the inside of the sleeve so the knot doesn't show through.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19If your sewing skills aren't great, get an adult to help.

0:10:19 > 0:10:21When you've gone all the way around,

0:10:21 > 0:10:24we're going to cut off the excess fabric and sew the ends together.

0:10:24 > 0:10:28This can be fiddly, so be careful with that needle.

0:10:28 > 0:10:30And tie off the end of your thread like this.

0:10:30 > 0:10:31That's all tied up.

0:10:31 > 0:10:35And we're going to do exactly the same thing to the other sleeve.

0:10:36 > 0:10:37Looking good, Jamie.

0:10:37 > 0:10:39What about the pocket?

0:10:39 > 0:10:40You're going to sew on your pocket

0:10:40 > 0:10:43and you can place this on the left or the right side.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45I'm placing mine on my left because that's where my heart is.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47Eww.

0:10:47 > 0:10:50Place the patterned fabric on top and sew them on together.

0:10:50 > 0:10:53Careful not to sew the front and the back of the shirt together.

0:10:53 > 0:10:57So, basically, I've taken my nan's old curtains and an old T-shirt

0:10:57 > 0:11:00and I've got a new wardrobe. Epic!

0:11:00 > 0:11:02And that's how to customise a T-shirt.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04Thank you, Jamie Jo.

0:11:05 > 0:11:09We've nearly finished our seven-course feast of epicness,

0:11:09 > 0:11:10but there's still time for dessert.

0:11:10 > 0:11:12And it's a seriously epic cake.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16What's more epic than a dragon?

0:11:16 > 0:11:17A dragon cake!

0:11:17 > 0:11:20That's right, that there dragon is a real live cake.

0:11:20 > 0:11:24Hi, I'm Molly, and I'm going to show you how to make an epic dragon cake.

0:11:24 > 0:11:25Got my two sponge cakes ready.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27What's next?

0:11:27 > 0:11:30First, I'm going to carve out the body and the neck of the dragon

0:11:30 > 0:11:31using a cake knife.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33You might need an adult's help for this bit.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39So I've made a rough sort of triangular shape for the neck

0:11:39 > 0:11:42and this big hump here is going to be the back

0:11:42 > 0:11:44and then it's going to go down into the tail.

0:11:44 > 0:11:47I'm just taking all the straight edges off,

0:11:47 > 0:11:49just to make sure your dragon is nice and round.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52Mmm, cake bits!

0:11:52 > 0:11:54I'll eat them later.

0:11:54 > 0:11:56Now it's time to cover the entire cake in buttercream.

0:11:56 > 0:11:58Now you're talking! Smooth it on, Molly.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02This step is called a crumb coat and this gets your cake nice and smooth

0:12:02 > 0:12:04and ready for the icing to go on top.

0:12:07 > 0:12:09I'm going to use 5kg of sugar paste.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12You want it to be the same length as your cake.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15Start from the back and just lay it all the way.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20Next, we're going to use the excess sugar paste that we've cut off

0:12:20 > 0:12:22round the edge and make a tail.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24You want it to be really thick at one end

0:12:24 > 0:12:27and nice and thin at the other - a bit like a carrot, really.

0:12:27 > 0:12:32Take some edible glue or you can use water, stick your tail onto there.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34Tail done,

0:12:34 > 0:12:36now it's time to mould the sugar paste head.

0:12:38 > 0:12:39And then the legs.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41I'm going to use this shaping tool now

0:12:41 > 0:12:44to get the finer detail, but you can use anything like a cocktail stick

0:12:44 > 0:12:45or even a chopstick.

0:12:45 > 0:12:46Er, what about my hockey stick?

0:12:46 > 0:12:48So, for the final bit of moulding,

0:12:48 > 0:12:50I'm going to put the spines down his back.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57I'm going to put a little bit more detail now on the head.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59And I've got some red sugar paste.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05Taking shape nicely.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08The next step, I'm going to grab some different-sized drinking straws

0:13:08 > 0:13:11and that's just going to give a scaly pattern.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17To paint my dragon, I have an airbrush machine

0:13:17 > 0:13:20with special food colouring for cake decorating,

0:13:20 > 0:13:22but you can use a brush as well to do this.

0:13:22 > 0:13:27Layer up your yellow, orange, red, some shading and then some stones.

0:13:27 > 0:13:28Looking good.

0:13:28 > 0:13:31No dragon would be complete without breathing fire.

0:13:32 > 0:13:35I'm going to do that with some red, orange and yellow sugar paste.

0:13:36 > 0:13:39That looks epic!

0:13:39 > 0:13:41And that's how to make an epic dragon cake.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43You're on fire, Molly.

0:13:43 > 0:13:44Can I have a slice, please?

0:13:45 > 0:13:48Right, that brings us to the end of 15 minutes

0:13:48 > 0:13:50of total random epicness.

0:13:50 > 0:13:52You should now be able to do this...

0:13:53 > 0:13:54..that...

0:13:55 > 0:13:57..and that...

0:13:57 > 0:13:58..this...
