0:22:04 > 0:22:08- ALL: Wash your hands!- You've got it. We need to wash our hands.

0:22:08 > 0:22:10Come on, let's get going.

0:22:14 > 0:22:16# Roll up your sleeves

0:22:16 > 0:22:19# Give your hands a wash with slippy-dippy soap

0:22:19 > 0:22:22# Splish splash splosh Have you done your hands?

0:22:22 > 0:22:25# Washed and dried Sleeves rolled up

0:22:25 > 0:22:29# Apron tied. What can you do? I can cook! #

0:22:32 > 0:22:35Right, let's get started on Katy's courgette cake!

0:22:35 > 0:22:39The first thing we need is some soft butter in a bowl,

0:22:39 > 0:22:43and we're going to add some soft brown sugar.

0:22:43 > 0:22:46This is a special sugar, actually.

0:22:46 > 0:22:49It's got a really nice smell. Why don't you smell the sugar,

0:22:49 > 0:22:53and tell me what you think it smells like?

0:22:53 > 0:22:55- It smells like raisins. - It is like raisins, actually!

0:22:55 > 0:23:00Right, let's add the sugar to the butter in the bowl.

0:23:02 > 0:23:04And when you've added it,

0:23:04 > 0:23:08we're going to use our fork to do some squishing!

0:23:08 > 0:23:12Squish it up against the side of the bowl, look.

0:23:12 > 0:23:15Squish, squash, squish, squash.

0:23:15 > 0:23:20OK, let's put our bowls to the side, and then bring your cup

0:23:20 > 0:23:25into the centre of the mat, because we are going to crack an egg!

0:23:25 > 0:23:28Eggs can come from all sorts of animals.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31They can come from ostriches and ducks,

0:23:31 > 0:23:34- but this egg comes from a...- Chicken!

0:23:34 > 0:23:37What noise does a chicken make, team?

0:23:37 > 0:23:40ALL: Bwark! Bwark! Bwark! Bwark!

0:23:40 > 0:23:44Come on, let's crack this egg.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47So we hold the handle of the cup, and then

0:23:47 > 0:23:51we have to knock on the door, so knock, knock, knock, make a crack.

0:23:51 > 0:23:55Then use your thumbs to open it up, and open it up into the cup.

0:23:55 > 0:23:57That's it!

0:23:57 > 0:24:01Now, we're going to use our fork again to whisk this egg up,

0:24:01 > 0:24:05so we just scrape off the sugar mixture.

0:24:05 > 0:24:09That's it. So you hold the handle, and you can join in with this, too.

0:24:09 > 0:24:12Get your cup and your fork and go like this.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14Whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk!

0:24:16 > 0:24:20- What's happened to your egg? - It's like orange juice.

0:24:20 > 0:24:22We wouldn't want to drink this, would we?

0:24:22 > 0:24:27And, put your forks down, because we're going to pour this eggy

0:24:27 > 0:24:32mixture into our sugary mixture, so let's whoosh it in after three.

0:24:32 > 0:24:34One, two, three, whoosh!

0:24:34 > 0:24:37All the egg is swimming around the sugar!

0:24:37 > 0:24:41Let's use our wooden spoon to mix it together.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44Keep mixing, everyone. That's it!

0:24:48 > 0:24:51- Is mine the muddiest?- Yeah!

0:24:51 > 0:24:53And, everyone stop mixing!

0:24:53 > 0:24:57I wonder what ingredient we're going to need next

0:24:57 > 0:25:00for Katy's courgette cake? What's next? Well, let us see

0:25:00 > 0:25:04if YOU can guess what it could be!

0:25:05 > 0:25:07So, what have we got?

0:25:07 > 0:25:10Brussels sprouts, some courgettes,

0:25:10 > 0:25:12and a very nice green car.

0:25:12 > 0:25:16What would you choose for Katy's courgette cake?

0:25:16 > 0:25:19I'll give you some clues, so you can guess what it might be.

0:25:19 > 0:25:24The special ingredient is green and is a vegetable.

0:25:24 > 0:25:26A car?! Well, that car's green,

0:25:26 > 0:25:29but it's certainly not a vegetable, is it?

0:25:29 > 0:25:32So we can take that one away. Here's another clue.

0:25:32 > 0:25:36The special ingredient is green, and it's a vegetable,

0:25:36 > 0:25:39and it's long, like a cucumber.

0:25:39 > 0:25:43Brussels sprouts are round, aren't they?

0:25:43 > 0:25:47So we can take that one away, too, which leaves us with courgettes.

0:25:47 > 0:25:52We're going to need courgettes for Katy's courgette cake, of course!

0:25:52 > 0:25:54And I went to find some.

0:26:01 > 0:26:06I've come to Esher, in Surrey, to look for some courgettes,

0:26:06 > 0:26:09and I've come to a farm where you can pick your own.

0:26:09 > 0:26:13Now, this is what we're looking for, so let's go!

0:26:14 > 0:26:17And here they are, the courgette plants!

0:26:17 > 0:26:20And the courgettes are hiding, just down here.

0:26:22 > 0:26:26So, let's pick some. Now, I'm going to wear some gloves,

0:26:26 > 0:26:31because the stems of the courgette plant have tiny spikes on them.

0:26:31 > 0:26:32Look at this courgette!

0:26:32 > 0:26:35It's got a flower growing on the end of it,

0:26:35 > 0:26:38and you can eat that flower if you want to.

0:26:38 > 0:26:41But this one isn't quite ready to pick yet.

0:26:41 > 0:26:44Oh, look. This one, on the other hand, is perfect.

0:26:44 > 0:26:47So I'll pick that one, and put it in my basket.

0:26:56 > 0:27:00Yep, I think that'll be enough for everyone.

0:27:00 > 0:27:02I just need to give these a wash,

0:27:02 > 0:27:05and they'll be perfect for our courgette cake.

0:27:05 > 0:27:09Those courgettes were quite hard to find, but we got some,

0:27:09 > 0:27:12and they're here to use right now.

0:27:12 > 0:27:13The first thing we have to do

0:27:13 > 0:27:16is to snap them. Hold on,

0:27:16 > 0:27:18snapping reminds me of an animal.

0:27:18 > 0:27:22- What animal goes "snap, snap, snap"? - Crocodile!- That's right.

0:27:22 > 0:27:24Why don't we pretend to be crocodiles? Put your arms like this

0:27:24 > 0:27:28- and go... - ALL: Snap! Snap!

0:27:28 > 0:27:30OK, let's snap our courgette.

0:27:30 > 0:27:34Hold the courgette out in front of us, like this,

0:27:34 > 0:27:36like a pair of handlebars.

0:27:36 > 0:27:40Then we're going to snap it in half, like this. Snap!

0:27:41 > 0:27:46- Done it!- And if you put it like this, it looks like a crocodile.

0:27:46 > 0:27:49- Snap! Snap! Snap!- Snap! Snap! Snap!

0:27:49 > 0:27:53Now, we have got to grate these bits of courgette, and to do that,

0:27:53 > 0:27:54we're going to use our grater,

0:27:54 > 0:27:57and we're going to work in pairs.

0:27:57 > 0:27:59One person is going to push

0:27:59 > 0:28:01the courgettes down at the top

0:28:01 > 0:28:06of the grater, and the other person is going to turn the handle.

0:28:06 > 0:28:08So, you need to put your courgette

0:28:08 > 0:28:12into the top of the grater.

0:28:12 > 0:28:14Get that grey lid and push down on it.

0:28:14 > 0:28:16And grate.

0:28:16 > 0:28:20Push down really hard, Nasser. You can do it!

0:28:22 > 0:28:24When you've grated all the courgette, use your fork

0:28:24 > 0:28:28to scrape out the rest in the round bit, but it's very

0:28:28 > 0:28:32sharp in there, so be careful with your fingers, everybody.

0:28:33 > 0:28:36- Everyone finished? - ALL: Yeah!

0:28:36 > 0:28:38Right, let's add our grated courgette to our bowl.

0:28:42 > 0:28:47The next ingredient is this. It's called mixed spice.

0:28:47 > 0:28:50Let's add that to our bowl. Sprinkle, sprinkle.

0:28:51 > 0:28:55And the next thing we're going to add is some of this.

0:28:55 > 0:28:59It's self-raising flour, and guess what?

0:28:59 > 0:29:01It's magic!

0:29:01 > 0:29:04When you add self-raising flour to your recipe,

0:29:04 > 0:29:09it makes everything rise up when it goes in the oven.

0:29:09 > 0:29:12So, shall we pretend to be the courgette cake

0:29:12 > 0:29:15rising up in the oven? So we start down really small, like this.

0:29:15 > 0:29:18Then, when we cook in the oven, we go like this.

0:29:18 > 0:29:22ALL: Oooooooooop!

0:29:22 > 0:29:28- OK, so let's add some flour to our bowl. Snowstorm!- Snowstorm!

0:29:30 > 0:29:31Finished.

0:29:31 > 0:29:35Then we're going to mix everything up using our wooden spoon.

0:29:35 > 0:29:37You've got to keep mixing it

0:29:37 > 0:29:40until all of that flour completely disappears.

0:29:40 > 0:29:47- This is hard work!- I know, Paddy, tell me about it. My arm's aching!

0:29:47 > 0:29:53And stop mixing! Our next ingredient we're going to use is this.

0:29:53 > 0:29:59- What do you think this is?- Lime! - That's it, it's a lime!

0:29:59 > 0:30:05And limes are very, very tangy. Who wants to do a lime face? Ready?

0:30:11 > 0:30:13OK, we're only going to use half a lime,

0:30:13 > 0:30:17but we've got to be very strong to squeeze all the lime out.

0:30:17 > 0:30:20So, boys, let's see your muscles!

0:30:20 > 0:30:22ALL: Grrrrrrrr!

0:30:24 > 0:30:30Take your lime and squeeze it into the bowl, like this. Squeeze!

0:30:35 > 0:30:38Get all the lime juice out.

0:30:38 > 0:30:41And then, of course, we have to mix it all up again!

0:30:41 > 0:30:45Finally, we're going to spoon the mixture into the loaf tin

0:30:45 > 0:30:48which I've already oiled for you.

0:30:48 > 0:30:51To do that, we're just going to gloop it in, like this.

0:30:51 > 0:30:52Gloop!

0:30:54 > 0:30:58Try and get really big mountainfuls of the mixture.

0:30:58 > 0:30:59That's it!

0:31:03 > 0:31:08And put your wooden spoon into your bowl, and that is it.

0:31:08 > 0:31:10You have done it, everyone!

0:31:10 > 0:31:15You've put all the ingredients together all by yourself,

0:31:15 > 0:31:18and now it's time to put them in the oven to cook.

0:31:20 > 0:31:24But remember, ovens are hot, so don't go near.

0:31:24 > 0:31:26Ask a grown-up to help you here!

0:31:28 > 0:31:30# Now we've cooked with you

0:31:30 > 0:31:32# And had lots of fun

0:31:32 > 0:31:37# Let's tidy up and think of all the things that we have done!

0:31:37 > 0:31:41- # There was...- Cracking... - Grating...- Squeezing...- Mixing...

0:31:41 > 0:31:45# Clearing any mess and putting things away

0:31:45 > 0:31:48# Is always fun to do at the end of the day! #

0:31:50 > 0:31:54And here are the courgette cakes, boys. They've all cooked.

0:31:54 > 0:31:59- They smell absolutely amazing! Shall we have a look?- Yes!

0:31:59 > 0:32:03OK, let's have a look at Cosmo's. Open up, Cosmo!

0:32:03 > 0:32:08- Oooh! What's happened to yours? - It's soft, look.

0:32:08 > 0:32:12- It's soft, and what's this bit here? - Crack.- A big crack!

0:32:12 > 0:32:17Yeah, because it was rising too much, it got a crack in the middle.

0:32:17 > 0:32:21- Do you remember what made it rise? - The self-raising flour.

0:32:21 > 0:32:23You've got it!

0:32:23 > 0:32:26OK, let's put the lids on top and we'll save it for later.

0:32:26 > 0:32:30We've travelled to you, we've cooked and had fun,

0:32:30 > 0:32:33now let's have a party with everyone!

0:32:33 > 0:32:34ALL: Yay!

0:32:35 > 0:32:38Come on, boys, let's go. And you can come with us!

0:32:40 > 0:32:45Look, everyone's waiting for us. Shall we go and share our food?

0:32:45 > 0:32:46- ALL: Yes. - Come on, let's go.

0:32:51 > 0:32:58- Mmmm, it's yummy, Pads. What was your best part?- Cracking the egg.- Oh, wow!

0:32:58 > 0:33:03- Mmm!- Oh, it smells gorgeous!

0:33:03 > 0:33:05Is it yummy? Shall I try some?

0:33:07 > 0:33:10Mmm! This is really yummy.

0:33:10 > 0:33:11(Make it at home.)

0:33:11 > 0:33:15OK, we'll make it at home, yeah?

0:33:16 > 0:33:22Mmm, that is delicious! And did you make this all by yourself?

0:33:22 > 0:33:26That's amazing, Teo, congratulations!

0:33:26 > 0:33:31Paddy, what other vegetables do you think we could use

0:33:31 > 0:33:32if we made it again?

0:33:32 > 0:33:37- Erm, carrots.- Mmm, definitely carrot. So, what can you do?

0:33:37 > 0:33:40ALL: I can cook!

0:33:40 > 0:33:43- With me and... - ALL: You!
