0:21:46 > 0:21:47Mmm!

0:21:48 > 0:21:51But before we get started on the cooking,

0:21:51 > 0:21:53we've got to do something first.

0:21:53 > 0:21:57- Does anyone know what it is? - Wash our hands.- That's right!

0:21:57 > 0:22:00We need to wash our hands of course. Let's go.

0:22:04 > 0:22:07# Roll up your sleeves

0:22:07 > 0:22:08# Give your hands a wash

0:22:08 > 0:22:10# With slippy-pippy soap

0:22:10 > 0:22:11# Splish, splash, splosh

0:22:11 > 0:22:13# Have you done your hands?

0:22:13 > 0:22:14# Washed and dried?

0:22:14 > 0:22:17# Sleeves rolled up? Apron tied?

0:22:17 > 0:22:20# What can you do? I can cook. #

0:22:23 > 0:22:26Right then, let's get started on our chunky cheese loaf.

0:22:26 > 0:22:30First we need flour and butter, we have that in our bowls.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33We're going to add this...

0:22:33 > 0:22:36And...it's a magic ingredient.

0:22:36 > 0:22:41Because when you put this into a recipe, it makes everything rise up.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44Shall we pretend to rise up like the cheese loaf in the oven?

0:22:44 > 0:22:48We start down small like this, and then we rise up. Ready?

0:22:53 > 0:22:56Why don't you join in with us, we'll do it all together.

0:22:56 > 0:22:59We start down small and then rise up. Ready?

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Ooh! Oh!

0:23:05 > 0:23:08Let's add the baking powder to the flour and butter.

0:23:08 > 0:23:11So sprinkle, sprinkle. Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle.

0:23:11 > 0:23:15Now it's time to get messy. Who wants to get messy?

0:23:15 > 0:23:18Me!

0:23:18 > 0:23:21We need to do some tickling. Show me your tickle fingers.

0:23:21 > 0:23:22Tickle, tickle, tickle.

0:23:25 > 0:23:28We're going to dive into the bottom of the bowl. Ready?

0:23:28 > 0:23:30Whoop!

0:23:30 > 0:23:36Right down to the bottom and squeeze it all together, and then tickle it.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39Tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle, tickle.

0:23:39 > 0:23:41Mine's getting squidgy.

0:23:43 > 0:23:47Now you need to tickle it until all the butter disappears.

0:23:47 > 0:23:49Look at my monster hands. Rar!

0:23:52 > 0:23:54Well, look at my monster hands!

0:23:54 > 0:23:55I know. Ooh!

0:23:55 > 0:23:59- Have you made all the butter disappear?- Yes!

0:23:59 > 0:24:01Let's give our hands a wipe, team.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04Next we're going to add some apples.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07I've peeled these apples and I've cored them.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10I've chopped them into bite-sized pieces.

0:24:10 > 0:24:15- How big do you think a bite-sized piece is?- This big.- This big.

0:24:15 > 0:24:19- Definitely that size. Shall we add our apples to our bowl?- Yeah.

0:24:19 > 0:24:24It's raining apples! It's a very fruity dish this one, isn't it?

0:24:24 > 0:24:29- I think we should do the fruity dance.- Yes!

0:24:29 > 0:24:32Do you want to do the fruity dance, too?

0:24:32 > 0:24:34We'll show you how. Ready, everybody?

0:24:34 > 0:24:39And fruity, fruity, fruity. Fruity, fruity, fruity.

0:24:39 > 0:24:41- Can we all go fruity?- Fruity!

0:24:41 > 0:24:43Love fruity things.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46We can add other fruits - pineapples or pears.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49What ingredient are we going to need next

0:24:49 > 0:24:52for our chunky cheese loaf. What is next?

0:24:52 > 0:24:55Well, let us see if you can guess what it could be.

0:24:57 > 0:25:02So, we've got some orange juice, some Cheddar cheese,

0:25:02 > 0:25:04oh, and some yummy chocolate, too.

0:25:04 > 0:25:07What would you choose for our cheese loaf?

0:25:07 > 0:25:10This special ingredient comes from cows.

0:25:10 > 0:25:13Orange juice doesn't come from cows, does it?

0:25:13 > 0:25:15Orange juice comes from fruit.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18Oranges, of course. We can take that one away.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20So, here's another clue.

0:25:20 > 0:25:26This special ingredient comes from cows and it's savoury.

0:25:26 > 0:25:29Well, chocolate's sweet, isn't it? Not savoury.

0:25:29 > 0:25:32So we can take that one away as well.

0:25:32 > 0:25:35Which leaves us with Cheddar cheese. Yummy.

0:25:35 > 0:25:39We're going to need Cheddar cheese in our chunky cheese loaf.

0:25:39 > 0:25:41And I went to find some.

0:25:43 > 0:25:44HONK! HONK!

0:25:47 > 0:25:48HONK! HONK!

0:25:48 > 0:25:52I've come to Somerset near a place called Cheddar to find out

0:25:52 > 0:25:54how they make Cheddar cheese.

0:25:54 > 0:25:57First, milk is collected from cows.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01It's heated up so that it's safe to use.

0:26:01 > 0:26:03And this is called pasteurising.

0:26:05 > 0:26:08A special ingredient is added called starter culture.

0:26:08 > 0:26:13This sours the milk and gives the cheese its lovely flavour.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15Another ingredient is added called rennet

0:26:15 > 0:26:19which turns the milk into curds and whey.

0:26:21 > 0:26:23This is the curd.

0:26:23 > 0:26:25Looks a bit like scrambled eggs.

0:26:25 > 0:26:27Over here is the whey.

0:26:27 > 0:26:29It's a yellowy liquid.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32The curds are then turned and stacked

0:26:32 > 0:26:35so that everything sticks together.

0:26:35 > 0:26:37And this is called Cheddaring.

0:26:37 > 0:26:42The curds get squashed and it pops out as a big lump of cheese!

0:26:42 > 0:26:44Look at that!

0:26:45 > 0:26:49The blocks are then kept in these wooden boxes.

0:26:49 > 0:26:54The older the cheese gets, the stronger the flavour gets.

0:26:54 > 0:26:58Thank you. A lovely bit of cheese for our chunky cheese loaf.

0:27:01 > 0:27:02HONK! HONK!

0:27:02 > 0:27:06I do love cheese. We've got to grate this cheese using our grater.

0:27:06 > 0:27:10What we're going to do is put the cheese in the top of our grater.

0:27:10 > 0:27:12Put yours in, too, Zara.

0:27:12 > 0:27:16Then put the lid on top, Yasmina, and you can push the lid down.

0:27:16 > 0:27:19One person is going to grate

0:27:19 > 0:27:23and the other person's going to push down on the top.

0:27:23 > 0:27:27- Push it down, Billy, that's it. Keep turning.- It's falling out.

0:27:27 > 0:27:29Keep going.

0:27:30 > 0:27:33I haven't got enough strength to turn this wheel.

0:27:33 > 0:27:36You can do some grating with us at home.

0:27:36 > 0:27:40Get your grater, like this, and then turn the handle, like this.

0:27:40 > 0:27:42Grate, grate, grate.

0:27:42 > 0:27:45Keep going, Zara. You're nearly there.

0:27:45 > 0:27:48I think you're done. Yasmina, just get your fork

0:27:48 > 0:27:50and scrape out the rest of the cheese.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53Careful of your fingers - it's sharp.

0:27:53 > 0:27:54Great grating, team!

0:27:54 > 0:27:58Right, we're going to add our grated cheese to our bowl.

0:27:58 > 0:28:01But, but, but we're going to keep a little bit.

0:28:01 > 0:28:05That's going to be our surprise cheese for later.

0:28:05 > 0:28:08- So everyone sprinkle some cheese in. - Smelly cheese!

0:28:08 > 0:28:13We'll put that to the side. The next thing we'll do is crack an egg.

0:28:13 > 0:28:17So let's take our egg and hold the handle of our cup like this

0:28:17 > 0:28:20and we go knock, knock, knock

0:28:20 > 0:28:22and you make a little crack, see?

0:28:22 > 0:28:25Oh, hey, that's a good one.

0:28:25 > 0:28:27Use your fingers to open up the crack.

0:28:27 > 0:28:30Open it up a bit more. That's it, Billy.

0:28:30 > 0:28:32Everyone wipe your hands.

0:28:32 > 0:28:35Right, who's ready to do some whisking?

0:28:35 > 0:28:37- Yeah!- I thought you might be.

0:28:37 > 0:28:40One, two, three, go!

0:28:40 > 0:28:43Try and go as fast as you can.

0:28:43 > 0:28:47- Who can go whizz?- Whizz!

0:28:48 > 0:28:50And stop.

0:28:50 > 0:28:55Oh, that's lovely. Look at that gloopy mixture. Gloop! Great.

0:28:55 > 0:28:59We're going to add this to our bowl. Ready?

0:28:59 > 0:29:01- Splash.- Splash!

0:29:01 > 0:29:07Take your big wooden spoon and we're going to mix everything up.

0:29:07 > 0:29:09Round the roundabout

0:29:09 > 0:29:12and down the slide.

0:29:12 > 0:29:14Round the roundabout,

0:29:14 > 0:29:16and down the slide.

0:29:16 > 0:29:18Round the roundabout

0:29:18 > 0:29:21and down the slide.

0:29:21 > 0:29:24Everyone say, "Apple juice to the rescue!"

0:29:24 > 0:29:27- Apple juice to the rescue! - Our mixture's too dry,

0:29:27 > 0:29:30so we need to add a little bit more liquid to it.

0:29:30 > 0:29:34So we're going to use some but not all of the apple juice.

0:29:34 > 0:29:36Some but not all.

0:29:36 > 0:29:40You've got it. So let's pour in a little bit, ready?

0:29:40 > 0:29:42And...stop.

0:29:42 > 0:29:46Really dig down deep to the bottom of your bowl.

0:29:46 > 0:29:50Once you've got a really sticky mixture, we can stop mixing.

0:29:50 > 0:29:55So, now we need to get this very sticky mixture into our loaf tin.

0:29:55 > 0:29:59So we take a big spoonful on our wooden spoon

0:29:59 > 0:30:03and then we slide it off using the other spoon.

0:30:03 > 0:30:06- Watch this. Slide.- Scoop and slide.

0:30:06 > 0:30:11You got it. Scope and slide.

0:30:11 > 0:30:13That's a very big spoonful.

0:30:13 > 0:30:15I'm scrapping for all of the bits.

0:30:15 > 0:30:18Once you've done that, you'll use your spoon

0:30:18 > 0:30:23to push the mixture into all the corners of the loaf tin, like this.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26Push, push, push. It makes it flat, you see.

0:30:26 > 0:30:32- It's quite hard to get it in place. - Because it's extremely sticky.- Yeah.

0:30:32 > 0:30:33I'm done!

0:30:33 > 0:30:38- The last thing we have to do is get our surprise cheese.- Surprise!

0:30:38 > 0:30:40We'll sprinkle it on the top.

0:30:40 > 0:30:44- Sprinkle, sprinkle, sprinkle. - Sprinkle. Put it all in.

0:30:44 > 0:30:46It's trying to run away.

0:30:46 > 0:30:49- I'm done now.- I'm done, too. And that's it. You did it.

0:30:49 > 0:30:54You put the ingredients together for the chunky cheese loaf by yourself.

0:30:54 > 0:30:57Now it's time to put it in the oven to cook.

0:30:59 > 0:31:02But remember, ovens are hot so don't go near.

0:31:02 > 0:31:04Ask a grown-up to help you here.

0:31:06 > 0:31:08# Now we've cooked with you

0:31:08 > 0:31:10# And had lots of fun

0:31:10 > 0:31:14# Let's tidy up and think of all the things that we have done

0:31:14 > 0:31:18- # There was- Mixing- Tickling - Baking- And- Cracking

0:31:18 > 0:31:20# And clearing any mess

0:31:20 > 0:31:21# And putting things away

0:31:21 > 0:31:26# Is always fun to do at the end of the day. #

0:31:26 > 0:31:27TICK, TICK, TICK, BING!

0:31:27 > 0:31:30Right, here they are, team.

0:31:30 > 0:31:34They're all cooked and they're ready for us to have a quick look at.

0:31:34 > 0:31:39There's yours, Zara. Shall we have a look at...Josie's first?

0:31:39 > 0:31:40Mm!

0:31:40 > 0:31:45- Before it was about that height. - And now what's happened to it?

0:31:45 > 0:31:48It's rised up thanks to the baking powder.

0:31:48 > 0:31:50Thanks to the baking powder.

0:31:50 > 0:31:53You're right. OK, Zara, let's see what you've made.

0:31:53 > 0:31:57Oh-ho-ho!

0:31:57 > 0:32:01- What's happened to yours? - Mine went squidgy.

0:32:01 > 0:32:06But it looks so different to Josie and Billy's, doesn't it?

0:32:06 > 0:32:10It looks like a cheesy mountain. You've done a really good job, Zara.

0:32:10 > 0:32:12It looks fantastic.

0:32:12 > 0:32:14Let's put the lids on top.

0:32:14 > 0:32:16We're going to save this food for the zoo.

0:32:48 > 0:32:51Tickling the flour and butter together.

0:32:51 > 0:32:53We used baking powder

0:32:59 > 0:33:03- Like magic.- Yeah.- Will you make some of this again at home?- Yeah.
