0:00:53 > 0:00:57It's where future ice stars work hard to get to the top.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02With two rinks,

0:01:02 > 0:01:05it was built to honour Torvill and Dean,

0:01:05 > 0:01:07the city's famous Olympic gold medal winners.

0:01:11 > 0:01:15And there are plenty of others who want to follow in their footsteps.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Coming up:

0:01:22 > 0:01:25The under-16s ice hockey team take on their fiercest rivals...

0:01:25 > 0:01:27You've got 15 minutes, yeah?

0:01:27 > 0:01:31That's one of the worst defeats that you guys'll have in your career.

0:01:31 > 0:01:34..figure skater Kaira is in for a big surprise...

0:01:34 > 0:01:36Keep your body straight.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40..and ice dance duo Josh and Ellie put their partnership to the test.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41No!

0:01:41 > 0:01:42Joshua!

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Good luck, chuck.

0:01:55 > 0:01:56Go on, then.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01Eight-year-old Kaira is part of the beginners synchro squad,

0:02:01 > 0:02:06and she's been moving up fast through the skating award levels.

0:02:06 > 0:02:07Forward run.

0:02:07 > 0:02:08Forward chasse.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10Forward run.

0:02:10 > 0:02:11Outside to outside.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13And then go again.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16I would like to be a professional skater.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19I like ice skating a lot.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22But she's not the only one in her family who's into the ice.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Her brother Jack loves ice hockey,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28and her sister Ashlei has just started to skate, too.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33But recently, life off the ice for their family has been hard.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Last autumn, when the girls were on holiday with their mum Gillian,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41she tragically had a brain haemorrhage

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and later she passed away.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47We've got all these pictures,

0:02:47 > 0:02:50like here, here,

0:02:50 > 0:02:51of our mum.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54And this picture here,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56Dad calls it a kissing picture,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58and we kiss it every night.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01Obviously, for us, the kids

0:03:01 > 0:03:04were devastated by what happened to her.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07She went 40 years too early.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09This is my special teddy bear,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12cos when my mum was in hospital,

0:03:12 > 0:03:17erm, she went to the shop and she bought us these teddies.

0:03:17 > 0:03:21They're really special because it was her last present she gave us.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24And it's really, really special to me,

0:03:24 > 0:03:29because mine's the last birthday in the actual family,

0:03:29 > 0:03:32and she wasn't here, so it's really special.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34So it's like a present to her.

0:03:35 > 0:03:39Gill used to go skating with all the kids - Jack, Ashlei and Kaira.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42She was the one that sort of enjoyed going on the ice,

0:03:42 > 0:03:44and I don't want that legacy to stop.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46I want them to carry on doing everything.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50Kaira has just started learning the skills

0:03:50 > 0:03:53to get her skating gold award.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55I find it quite hard.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58The better at skating you get, the higher awards you earn,

0:03:58 > 0:04:02and Kaira's already earned her bronze and silver.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04You get six weeks to practise,

0:04:04 > 0:04:07and then you get tested.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09And then if you don't pass it,

0:04:09 > 0:04:11you get another few turns.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13And then if you pass it then,

0:04:13 > 0:04:15you can go on to the next level.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18To get her gold, she'll need to show she can jump,

0:04:18 > 0:04:20spin and turn,

0:04:20 > 0:04:21all in a short routine.

0:04:21 > 0:04:25You know, for Kaira to actually get through, you know,

0:04:25 > 0:04:26up to a gold level,

0:04:26 > 0:04:29her mum would be absolutely over the moon.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32I've worked really hard to try and get my gold,

0:04:32 > 0:04:34and I really hope I get it.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38And if I got it, my dad will be really proud.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49Ice dance couple Josh and Ellie

0:04:49 > 0:04:51want to copy their idols Torvill and Dean,

0:04:51 > 0:04:54by winning an Olympic gold medal one day.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56I first started skating

0:04:56 > 0:04:58when I was five and a half.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00You just feel free,

0:05:00 > 0:05:04and you feel like nothing's stopping you.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07I started skating when I was about eight.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09I know that if I train really hard,

0:05:09 > 0:05:12that I'll be able to go to different countries,

0:05:12 > 0:05:14and hopefully the Olympics.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17We're aiming for 2022 Olympics.

0:05:17 > 0:05:20We're working towards that now.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22To help turn their Olympic dream into reality,

0:05:22 > 0:05:26Ellie no longer lives full-time with her mum and dad.

0:05:26 > 0:05:27Where shall I put these?

0:05:27 > 0:05:29In this fridge.

0:05:29 > 0:05:30- In the fridge?- Mm-hm.

0:05:30 > 0:05:35'I stay with my nan, because it's too far from Derby'

0:05:35 > 0:05:37to go from Nottingham

0:05:37 > 0:05:41at five, six o'clock starts.

0:05:41 > 0:05:46That's why I camp at my nan's house.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49I miss my mum and dad,

0:05:49 > 0:05:52but I think you just have to get on with it, really,

0:05:52 > 0:05:56and just push for it, cos one day you're going to have a success.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Ellie will be able to put her commitment to the test soon.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02She and Josh will be heading to an ice dance competition

0:06:02 > 0:06:05in Bracknell in the south of England.

0:06:05 > 0:06:06It's a big deal for them,

0:06:06 > 0:06:09as they'll be competing in the advance novice category

0:06:09 > 0:06:11for the first time.

0:06:11 > 0:06:12In our new routine,

0:06:12 > 0:06:15we've got quite a lot of different moves

0:06:15 > 0:06:17that we've not tried before.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19Hopefully I won't drop Ellie in the lifts either.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23But there'll be one thing missing from the competition in Bracknell -

0:06:23 > 0:06:25their long term coach Sophie.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28It's the first time...

0:06:29 > 0:06:30..within the last four years

0:06:30 > 0:06:32that they'll be taking part in a competition

0:06:32 > 0:06:34and I'm not there with them.

0:06:34 > 0:06:39Erm, so I'm a little bit worried about how things could go.

0:06:39 > 0:06:41But they won't be alone.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43Woody is taking them to the competition.

0:06:43 > 0:06:47I completely trust that they are in safe hands.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50I'm going to work on your elements, but we're also going to work on

0:06:50 > 0:06:53all your little parts that link them in between as well.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56Coach Sophie has asked Woody to look out for the one thing

0:06:56 > 0:06:59Jellie definitely need extra help with.

0:06:59 > 0:07:02They're struggling a little bit with their lifts at the minute,

0:07:02 > 0:07:04partly due to Josh's strength,

0:07:04 > 0:07:08and also they have the added difficulty that

0:07:08 > 0:07:09they are similar in height,

0:07:09 > 0:07:11which does make lifting a lot harder.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15With all the focus on their lifts,

0:07:15 > 0:07:18they've taken their eye off the ball with the rest of the routine.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23So I know it all went a little bit wrong,

0:07:23 > 0:07:25but I'm not too worried.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28The main thing I wanted to see was the lifts and we got those out.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31There are only a few practice sessions left.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33Time's running out for the dancing duo to perfect

0:07:33 > 0:07:36the routine in time for the Bracknell competition.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45TANNOY ANNOUNCER ECHOES

0:07:53 > 0:07:55Professional ice hockey is a high energy,

0:07:55 > 0:07:57high speed,

0:07:57 > 0:07:59full contact sport.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01CROWD GASPS

0:08:03 > 0:08:07And the Nottingham pro team sell out to crowds of 7,500 fans.

0:08:09 > 0:08:11Ice hockey is the best thing in the world

0:08:11 > 0:08:13and I love it.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15And if you're into your hockey in Nottingham,

0:08:15 > 0:08:17they're the team you dream of playing for.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21When I'm older, I really want to play for the Nottingham pro team.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25But all the top pros have to start somewhere.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28You start off as a Squirt.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Next up, you're a Tiger.

0:08:35 > 0:08:37And when you're old enough, you become a Cougar.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42They're the under-16s team,

0:08:42 > 0:08:44and kept in line by coach Paul.

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Get yourself to the net!

0:08:48 > 0:08:50One of the goal scorers for the Cougars, Rais,

0:08:50 > 0:08:54also plays for the Midlands and England under-16s team.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57Nothing to me is as good as hockey, so...

0:08:57 > 0:09:01Obviously, I started to learn to skate here at the rink.

0:09:01 > 0:09:03I just loved it ever since.

0:09:03 > 0:09:04Yes, Morgi!

0:09:05 > 0:09:06Keep going, keep going.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09I probably train twice a week,

0:09:09 > 0:09:10off-ice training, probably three,

0:09:10 > 0:09:12four times a week as well.

0:09:12 > 0:09:16'I'm quite a tall guy - I mean, I'm six foot four.'

0:09:16 > 0:09:18And I've got quite big feet -

0:09:18 > 0:09:20I mean, I'm size 13.

0:09:21 > 0:09:25Backing up Rais is team-mate and Cougars defender Liam.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28Got into ice hockey when I was about seven,

0:09:28 > 0:09:29seven or eight.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31I like getting the adrenaline pumping.

0:09:31 > 0:09:32I love the fact that it's fast.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35I guess you could say the hitting side of it, you know,

0:09:35 > 0:09:37the bodying each other and stuff.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42Some guys have said, "Oh, I think you need to calm down a bit,"

0:09:42 > 0:09:45but I'm like, "No, no, no," cos that keeps me going.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47For these lads, the next stop is Team GB.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51I just want to get to as high as I can.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54I mean, if I can get to a big league, get paid for it,

0:09:54 > 0:09:55awesome.

0:09:55 > 0:09:58And if they have got what it takes, they turn pro.

0:09:59 > 0:10:00I mean that would be a dream of mine,

0:10:00 > 0:10:03just to play professional hockey and have that as my job.

0:10:03 > 0:10:06And that would be...I think that'd be really cool.

0:10:06 > 0:10:11With international professionals earning up to £10 million a year,

0:10:11 > 0:10:13it's no wonder these guys work hard.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21It's 9pm, and when most of their mates are chilling out at home,

0:10:21 > 0:10:24Rais and Liam are just starting training.

0:10:24 > 0:10:25Step him up, step him up!

0:10:25 > 0:10:28I think people forget sometimes that these young guys,

0:10:28 > 0:10:30and they are only young, they've got school tomorrow,

0:10:30 > 0:10:33and that's the dedication and the preparation

0:10:33 > 0:10:36that will hopefully help them in the future.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40My friends are always telling me that, "Oh, why do you play

0:10:40 > 0:10:43"so much ice hockey, why don't you come out and see us?"

0:10:43 > 0:10:46When, honestly, I don't have that much time at all,

0:10:46 > 0:10:48and they don't get it.

0:10:48 > 0:10:50I mean I've been asked to go to a few parties,

0:10:50 > 0:10:52which I have gone and said yes to,

0:10:52 > 0:10:53and then realised I've had training

0:10:53 > 0:10:56and I've gone, "Sorry, but I can't come," and they'll be like,

0:10:56 > 0:10:58"Oh, come, come, please, please,"

0:10:58 > 0:11:03but, nah, sorry, hockey's more important at this stage in my life.

0:11:03 > 0:11:06And the Cougars' next match is a massive one against local team

0:11:06 > 0:11:08the Sutton Sting.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11Right, boys. Just pay attention, guys.

0:11:11 > 0:11:13If we're going to shoot, let's shoot to score, boys.

0:11:13 > 0:11:15Let's go, guys.

0:11:15 > 0:11:17If they win the match,

0:11:17 > 0:11:19they could make the league play-offs.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21Sutton, they're going to be no pushover.

0:11:21 > 0:11:24It's all about mental focus, preparation, being confident,

0:11:24 > 0:11:26but not arrogant and that's the key.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43Recently, Kaira has been working hard towards

0:11:43 > 0:11:45getting her gold award in skating.

0:11:45 > 0:11:47So, Kaira, how are you getting on with your

0:11:47 > 0:11:48gold dance sessions at ice skating?

0:11:48 > 0:11:50It's a bit difficult.

0:11:50 > 0:11:52Is that that nine part move that you've got to do?

0:11:52 > 0:11:54Yeah.

0:11:54 > 0:11:57I can do it, but it's just... I just need practice.

0:11:57 > 0:11:58Yeah? That's fine.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01Since their mum Gillian passed away in the autumn,

0:12:01 > 0:12:05non-skater dad Tony has decided to get involved more.

0:12:05 > 0:12:09I've set myself the challenge now that I've got to go

0:12:09 > 0:12:10and learn how to skate.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13Not I might have to, I've got to go and do it.

0:12:13 > 0:12:16Kaira has no idea that whilst she's at school,

0:12:16 > 0:12:19her dad's been sneaking off for secret skating lessons.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21Hi, can I have one public skate, please?

0:12:26 > 0:12:28It's to actually prove to the kids that

0:12:28 > 0:12:30even though we have lost their mum,

0:12:30 > 0:12:33that we can still carry on doing things,

0:12:33 > 0:12:37and that we can venture into doing new things together as a family,

0:12:37 > 0:12:39and we can all go out skating.

0:12:41 > 0:12:45I just want to be able to do it to actually surprise the kids.

0:12:45 > 0:12:47And, hopefully, they'll be happy about it.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50That's it, as soon as you start to glide, pick the other foot up.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53- That's better.- They have not got a clue.

0:12:53 > 0:12:57They haven't. They just think I've got no chance of doing it,

0:12:57 > 0:12:59I've not got the guts to go on the ice.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01I actually hide me skates in the car.

0:13:01 > 0:13:04So I've got a nice little sort of hiding cubbyhole

0:13:04 > 0:13:06under the parcel shelf in the boot.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09Kaira will be taking her gold award soon,

0:13:09 > 0:13:11and if she passes,

0:13:11 > 0:13:13Tony wants to surprise her by skating out

0:13:13 > 0:13:15on to the ice with her certificate.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17OK, bend.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19Keep your body straight.

0:13:21 > 0:13:22That's it, don't swim,

0:13:22 > 0:13:25and then bring them in, that's it.

0:13:25 > 0:13:28There you go, now your feet are better now, they're coming together.

0:13:28 > 0:13:29Get your shoulders straight...

0:13:29 > 0:13:31With Kaira's gold award test getting close now,

0:13:31 > 0:13:34Tony has his work cut out to be ready in time.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41The Cougars have a season defining game coming up

0:13:41 > 0:13:43with local rivals Sutton.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46If they win it, they could make the league play-offs.

0:13:46 > 0:13:50And for the Cougars' defensive rock, Liam,

0:13:50 > 0:13:52it's all that's on his mind.

0:13:52 > 0:13:53Sleep all right?

0:13:53 > 0:13:54Yeah, not bad, you?

0:13:54 > 0:13:56Ready for the game, kit packed?

0:13:56 > 0:13:57Yeah.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01I imagine it will be quite feisty in parts?

0:14:01 > 0:14:03You've just got to keep some discipline,

0:14:03 > 0:14:05you know, it's tough when you're your age.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08I love skating fast and running into someone, you know,

0:14:08 > 0:14:11taking them out - I love that, because it gets the team

0:14:11 > 0:14:12going a bit.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15You'd do anything for your team and people might

0:14:15 > 0:14:18despise some of the things you do, but if it gets my team, you know,

0:14:18 > 0:14:21pumped up and it makes their game better,

0:14:21 > 0:14:22then I guess I'll do that.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26While Liam's preparing himself mentally,

0:14:26 > 0:14:28Rais is preparing himself physically.

0:14:30 > 0:14:31His dad is a personal trainer

0:14:31 > 0:14:35and regularly works out with Rais to keep him in top condition.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38We're going for just a general jog,

0:14:38 > 0:14:39just to keep his fitness up.

0:14:39 > 0:14:42His off-ice training is really important for his speed,

0:14:42 > 0:14:44stamina, endurance.

0:14:46 > 0:14:48We do this, I think, two or three times a week.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51I do it to get my stamina up,

0:14:51 > 0:14:53and try get my fitness level up,

0:14:53 > 0:14:55so I can be faster on the ice,

0:14:55 > 0:14:57more agile and things like that.

0:14:57 > 0:14:59For example, with the game,

0:14:59 > 0:15:01if he's tired and he's got that extra burst,

0:15:01 > 0:15:03that could make the difference between winning and losing.

0:15:03 > 0:15:05We don't want to lose to Sutton.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07Nice, well done, Rais.

0:15:07 > 0:15:08We used to batter them in under-10s,

0:15:08 > 0:15:11but now games are getting very close,

0:15:11 > 0:15:13so they know exactly what plays we like to do,

0:15:13 > 0:15:15or how we play.

0:15:15 > 0:15:17So they know how to stop us.

0:15:17 > 0:15:19Well done, that's it, nice.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22That's it, that's it.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24I know it's going to be a hard game.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26Hold it. Pace yourself.

0:15:26 > 0:15:29It's really hard. I mean, my dad's pushing me really hard,

0:15:29 > 0:15:31but it's just what I need to do to get better.

0:15:31 > 0:15:33I mean, I'm more than willing to do it.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36Go for it! Go for it! Go for it! Go for it! Go for it!

0:15:36 > 0:15:40With Liam and Rais doing all they can to win the Sutton game,

0:15:40 > 0:15:44they meet team-mate Joe at the cafe to talk tactics.

0:15:44 > 0:15:45Sutton ain't going to be easy.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47They've got a few big guys.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49I think we need to keep concentrated,

0:15:49 > 0:15:51cos you know what they're like, they can slip

0:15:51 > 0:15:53a couple of goals in and they can make upsets,

0:15:53 > 0:15:55and sometimes it gets a bit rough.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57But we need to stand up for our team-mates and stay strong.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00We've just got to keep our heads on and stay disciplined.

0:16:00 > 0:16:03It's just the penalties, bans that mess us up a bit.

0:16:03 > 0:16:05Don't go and do anything stupid, cos at the end of the day,

0:16:05 > 0:16:07we need to be winning all these games,

0:16:07 > 0:16:10not, you know, losing them through penalties and suspensions and stuff.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13The boys plan to play hard and stay cool,

0:16:13 > 0:16:16which isn't always as easy as it sounds.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24Before coach Sophie leaves,

0:16:24 > 0:16:26she's arranged one last off-ice session

0:16:26 > 0:16:28to give Jellie the best chance

0:16:28 > 0:16:31of winning their competition in Bracknell.

0:16:31 > 0:16:35Josh needs to be doing these harder lifts this year.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37He really needs to improve his upper body strength,

0:16:37 > 0:16:40so we've come along to a gym today to get some advice.

0:16:40 > 0:16:42How are you doing?

0:16:42 > 0:16:44- Hi, I'm Sophie.- You all right? - This is Ellie and Josh.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47- Ellie, Josh, you all right? - Hi.- Yes, thanks.

0:16:47 > 0:16:50I need to be stronger than I am now

0:16:50 > 0:16:53so that I can do the harder lifts with Ellie,

0:16:53 > 0:16:56so that we can get good marks when we go to competition.

0:16:56 > 0:16:58- So, they're an ice dance couple. - Right.

0:16:58 > 0:17:02At the minute, we're working on some new, harder lifts.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05I just wondered if we could show you those and get a bit of advice?

0:17:05 > 0:17:07I'll have a look and we'll put a programme together, shall we?

0:17:07 > 0:17:10All right, Josh, Ellie, do you want to jump in the ring

0:17:10 > 0:17:11and show us the lift?

0:17:25 > 0:17:27Right, guys, after watching you do them lifts,

0:17:27 > 0:17:30I know where I want to go with you now.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33We're going to look at doing strength and conditioning for you, Josh.

0:17:33 > 0:17:34BOTH: Yeah.

0:17:34 > 0:17:36I don't want to be too muscly.

0:17:36 > 0:17:37I need to be strong,

0:17:37 > 0:17:41but I don't want to make the muscles look big.

0:17:41 > 0:17:45So it's time for Josh to step out of his comfort zone.

0:17:45 > 0:17:47Really hard, very demanding work.

0:17:47 > 0:17:49It's quite heavy on your shoulders, which you use a lot

0:17:49 > 0:17:51with your ice skating, don't you?

0:17:59 > 0:18:00And again.

0:18:02 > 0:18:06When he channels his energy into something, he does give 100%.

0:18:06 > 0:18:08He's not a particularly strong kid, at the minute,

0:18:08 > 0:18:10which is what I intend to change.

0:18:10 > 0:18:12We'll make him strong.

0:18:12 > 0:18:15A few sessions at this and he'll be a different kid. I know he will.

0:18:15 > 0:18:17Well done.

0:18:17 > 0:18:20His overall strength and conditioning will improve

0:18:20 > 0:18:22as a result of doing these classes,

0:18:22 > 0:18:27and all of that combined will help them with their lifts.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30It's all to get better for my ice skating,

0:18:30 > 0:18:31so hopefully it'll work.

0:18:37 > 0:18:40The day of the big ice hockey game has finally arrived.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44Nottingham Cougars vs Sutton Sting.

0:18:44 > 0:18:46And if the Cougars win today,

0:18:46 > 0:18:49they could make the league play-offs.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52All the boys have got to do is work hard, play the roles they've got,

0:18:52 > 0:18:54listen to the coaches, support their team-mates

0:18:54 > 0:18:56and put the puck in the back of the net.

0:18:57 > 0:19:00It's only minutes away from the opening face off,

0:19:00 > 0:19:02and they're feeling the pressure.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05A little bit nervous, but I'm just going to do what I can

0:19:05 > 0:19:09to help the team and that's, you know, I'll do whatever I can.

0:19:09 > 0:19:12I like playing teams like Sutton cos they make you work harder.

0:19:12 > 0:19:15You can't just easily score a goal, they'll work you down to the ground.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17You've got the wills and you've got the skill.

0:19:17 > 0:19:19OK? Be smart.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21If you're not prepared to give me energy,

0:19:21 > 0:19:23I'll find somebody else that will give it me.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26When you look in this room now, it's competition time,

0:19:26 > 0:19:27not just out there, but inside this room.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30Who wants a spot, who wants to work hardest -

0:20:01 > 0:20:03OK, boys, off you go, let's go.

0:20:06 > 0:20:07Go, Morgan!

0:20:08 > 0:20:11Liam is known as someone who watches the backs of his team-mates,

0:20:11 > 0:20:14but during a scuffle on the back wall,

0:20:14 > 0:20:16he's sent off to the sin bin.

0:20:24 > 0:20:25I got a sin bin.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28It's not good. I'm not happy at all, but I can't do anything about it,

0:20:28 > 0:20:31so just got to get on with it, get back out there and try and score.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37Despite being one man down,

0:21:05 > 0:21:06It's another foul...

0:21:08 > 0:21:11..and coach Paul isn't happy.

0:21:11 > 0:21:14Boys, this is one thing I did not want, was penalties.

0:21:14 > 0:21:16That's the one thing I did not want.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18Declan! Dean!

0:21:20 > 0:21:22We're not first to the puck! We're last!

0:21:22 > 0:21:24Unacceptable!

0:21:24 > 0:21:26With Liam off for the second time,

0:21:26 > 0:21:27Sutton take their chances.

0:21:29 > 0:21:30One all.

0:21:30 > 0:21:32Sutton have just scored, so it's 1-1.

0:21:43 > 0:21:45taking the lead 2-1.

0:21:51 > 0:21:53And with a break in play,

0:21:53 > 0:21:55things aren't looking good for the Cougars.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01There's too many of you on this team who think you're better

0:22:01 > 0:22:04than what you are. All right? You try and do too much fancy stuff.

0:22:04 > 0:22:06We're not playing football here, boys, we're playing ice hockey.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10Your fancy Dan stuff don't wear with me, I'll tell you here and now.

0:22:10 > 0:22:11You've got 15 minutes, yeah,

0:22:36 > 0:22:40I think you make better friends

0:22:40 > 0:22:43at skating than you do anywhere else,

0:22:43 > 0:22:46because you're always with them all the time.

0:22:46 > 0:22:49I think they're like your best friends in some ways.

0:22:49 > 0:22:52We go out with Tom and Claire as well,

0:22:52 > 0:22:56just so that we have time to go out with other people,

0:22:56 > 0:22:59because we don't have that much time to do that,

0:22:59 > 0:23:00so it's good fun when we do.

0:23:02 > 0:23:05When Josh and I do any sport,

0:23:05 > 0:23:07erm, we're always competitive.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09Josh cheats, so he's probably going to win.

0:23:09 > 0:23:12No! Josh!

0:23:14 > 0:23:16SHE LAUGHS

0:23:17 > 0:23:19I'm taking the next one.

0:23:19 > 0:23:20No!

0:23:20 > 0:23:22Joshua!

0:23:22 > 0:23:24I'm going to go through your legs! Get off!

0:23:24 > 0:23:26I think Ellie likes to win.

0:23:27 > 0:23:31If she loses, she won't say that she's mad, but she will be.

0:23:32 > 0:23:35For Josh and Ellie, it's all about the winning.

0:23:37 > 0:23:39That's an example of how competitive we get.

0:23:40 > 0:23:42If they have that attitude in Bracknell,

0:23:42 > 0:23:44they might just do it.

0:23:44 > 0:23:46Josh, go away! No!

0:23:46 > 0:23:49But that's if they don't get too distracted!

0:23:49 > 0:23:51Josh says to me that he doesn't fancy Claire,

0:23:51 > 0:23:53but I think he does.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55No, I'm just friends with Claire,

0:23:55 > 0:23:58but I think Ellie fancies Tom.

0:23:58 > 0:23:59Go away!

0:24:02 > 0:24:06Tom won, which means the boys won, because he won overall.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19- 198.- We won by six points!

0:24:20 > 0:24:24Claire and I won, and Josh and Tom lost.

0:24:24 > 0:24:26They're saying they won, but they didn't.

0:24:26 > 0:24:29I had a really good day with everyone today.

0:24:29 > 0:24:30It was really fun.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36Not everyone is winning though -

0:24:36 > 0:24:40the Cougars are trailing 2-1 to Sutton in their season defining

0:24:40 > 0:24:43ice hockey game, and their dreams of making the league play-offs

0:24:43 > 0:24:45seem to be fading.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48Coach Paul has done his best to motivate the boys.

0:24:48 > 0:24:50I tell you what, let's get out there, let's go!

0:24:50 > 0:24:53Let's take this game to them, boys! Let's go!

0:24:53 > 0:24:54So with 15 minutes left,

0:24:54 > 0:24:56they must up their game.

0:25:04 > 0:25:06It looks like the coach's words are doing the trick.

0:25:10 > 0:25:13Drive him! Drive him! Drive him! Let him freeze, let him freeze.

0:25:13 > 0:25:15Good job.

0:25:15 > 0:25:17But just as the team are starting to flow,

0:25:17 > 0:25:19there's another scuffle on the back wall.

0:25:21 > 0:25:22Liam's in trouble again,

0:25:22 > 0:25:24and this time it's serious.

0:25:31 > 0:25:33The ref sends him off the ice.

0:25:37 > 0:25:38Just been kicked out of the game,

0:25:38 > 0:25:41so I'm back in the changing room now.

0:25:41 > 0:25:44Basically, they had four of their guys on one of ours,

0:25:44 > 0:25:47so I went in to help my team-mates out.

0:25:47 > 0:25:49The ref pulled me back and took me to the box,

0:25:49 > 0:25:51and he was digging into my ribs,

0:25:51 > 0:25:53so I like shook him off.

0:25:53 > 0:25:54And then the ref kicked me out of the game.

0:25:54 > 0:25:57It's not the ref's fault, it is partly mine as well.

0:25:57 > 0:25:58It's not looking good.

0:25:58 > 0:25:59We've got seven minutes 45 left,

0:25:59 > 0:26:02and we're a goal down, so we need to try and get better,

0:26:02 > 0:26:05so I'm going to have to go in defence now cos Liam's out of the game.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09With Rais in defence and time running out,

0:26:09 > 0:26:11the Cougars up their game and score.

0:26:49 > 0:26:53We scored 3-2 at the end in the last couple of minutes.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56We got there, we won, and we came up with the goods.

0:26:56 > 0:26:57You pulled it out of the bag.

0:26:57 > 0:27:01You showed the character that it takes to win games.

0:27:01 > 0:27:04Good job, boys. Get yourselves changed, boys. Let's go.

0:27:04 > 0:27:06The team are celebrating their success,

0:27:06 > 0:27:09but Liam's dad isn't so impressed.

0:27:09 > 0:27:12- All right?- All right? Yeah, so what happened here then?

0:27:12 > 0:27:15- A bit disappointing, supposed to curb your temper.- Yeah, I guess so.

0:27:15 > 0:27:17- Keep the boxing in the ring.- Yeah.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19I was disappointed in myself.

0:27:19 > 0:27:21Sometimes my blood gets pumping a bit too much

0:27:21 > 0:27:23and I get a bit too carried away with it.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28It's just passion, I think. You know, I've got a lot of it.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31Next time on Ice Stars:
