0:00:10 > 0:00:13One, two, three, four. Bend your knees!

0:00:15 > 0:00:18We're not first to the puck. We're last. Unacceptable!

0:00:20 > 0:00:24Making it as a champion skater doesn't come easy.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26It takes years of practice...

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Keep going, keep going, keep going!

0:00:28 > 0:00:33- ..hard work...- What is that? You're like a little old man at the end.

0:00:33 > 0:00:37- ..and dedication.- Speed, speed. Faster, faster, faster. Come on.

0:00:41 > 0:00:47But even then, only a few will become tomorrow's Ice Stars.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53This is the Ice Centre in Nottingham.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57It's where future Ice Stars work hard to get to the top.

0:01:00 > 0:01:05With two rinks, it was built to honour Torvill and Dean,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08the city's famous Olympic gold medal winners.

0:01:10 > 0:01:15And there are plenty of others who want to follow in their footsteps.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22Coming up,

0:01:22 > 0:01:25there's a surprise in store for birthday girl, Kloe...

0:01:27 > 0:01:29- With our love.- I'm going to cry!

0:01:29 > 0:01:33..speed skater Izzy pushes herself to the limit...

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Yeah, it's really tough.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38..and the ice dance girls go to the disco in search of new partners.

0:01:45 > 0:01:50The Ice Centre is second home to figure skaters Josh and Kloe.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53They've been sharing the ice for five years after Kloe

0:01:53 > 0:01:57moved to England from Hungary to follow her skating dreams.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59If Kloe hadn't moved here, I don't

0:01:59 > 0:02:02really know what I would have done, so I'm really glad Kloe is here.

0:02:02 > 0:02:06And obviously, she's my best friend, as well, so it makes it even better!

0:02:07 > 0:02:09I have friends at school,

0:02:09 > 0:02:11but at skating we are literally like a family.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16Kloe's very, very good at making me feel better when obviously we have

0:02:16 > 0:02:20the bad days, and we spend loads of time outside the rink together.

0:02:20 > 0:02:22It's 6am, and Josh and Kloe

0:02:22 > 0:02:25are about to start their ballet training.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27But today is no ordinary day.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Today is Kloe's 16th birthday,

0:02:30 > 0:02:35and so I've got a surprise in store for her after, off ice.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37I wrote it in a letter for her, so I'm going to give it to her,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40and hopefully when she reads it she'll find out what we're doing

0:02:40 > 0:02:42and she'll get really excited.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46I got a lot of things from Alexia, Sasha

0:02:46 > 0:02:50and everyone from the rink, and I'm so excited!

0:02:50 > 0:02:53All the excitement will have to wait, though,

0:02:53 > 0:02:55as first it's time for their ballet session.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57- And up. - PIANO PLAYS

0:02:59 > 0:03:04Arms. Hold your arms. And a single. And a double. And a single.

0:03:04 > 0:03:05And a double.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12All right, guys, you can finish there. Well done.

0:03:12 > 0:03:18Kloe, have a lovely birthday. Yes, I hope you have a lovely evening.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22- Kloe?- What?- Can you, er, can you come over here, please?

0:03:24 > 0:03:28- I'm really scared!- This is your surprise, my last present to you.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30Can you open it?

0:03:31 > 0:03:33Please?

0:03:39 > 0:03:43- I'm going to cry!- Read it!- No!

0:03:43 > 0:03:45"Because you mean absolutely everything to me,

0:03:45 > 0:03:49"I wanted to make your sweet 16th the most amazing it could ever be."

0:03:50 > 0:03:54- We're going to London?! - Yeah.- When? Tomorrow?

0:03:54 > 0:03:59- It's OK.- I was so not expecting that!

0:03:59 > 0:04:01I thought we were going to go to town!

0:04:03 > 0:04:06Josh, you're so cute!

0:04:06 > 0:04:08SHE SQUEALS WITH HAPPINESS

0:04:08 > 0:04:11- How did you pull that off? - I don't know!

0:04:11 > 0:04:15And I'm so happy! Awww, thank you!

0:04:15 > 0:04:17- Thank you!- That's OK.

0:04:18 > 0:04:24It's 8pm on the Arena Rink, and speed skater Izzy is hard at work.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31I started skating when I was around six years old. I think I chose

0:04:31 > 0:04:35speed skating over figure skating or hockey because it's different,

0:04:35 > 0:04:38it's quite a weird sport but I kind of like that.

0:04:38 > 0:04:39No-one knows what it is!

0:04:41 > 0:04:43Speed skating, it's kind of similar to running,

0:04:43 > 0:04:46I guess, on the track, it's just on the ice,

0:04:46 > 0:04:48and it's who crosses the line first wins.

0:04:50 > 0:04:56So, I've been British champion twice, and I've also made Star Class finals,

0:04:56 > 0:05:01which is basically like a European championship, so that's pretty cool.

0:05:01 > 0:05:05Up until recently, Izzy's championship form has taken a dip.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Speed skating blades are longer than any other type of blade,

0:05:09 > 0:05:13which can make the difference between winning and losing.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16You can be one of the best skaters, but if you don't have the right

0:05:16 > 0:05:22blades or the right boots, you're not going to be as good as you can be.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24Last year, it was probably...

0:05:24 > 0:05:27It didn't go that great, and I wasn't sure why.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29Her coaches decided to swap her blades,

0:05:29 > 0:05:31and now things are looking up.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33They put me onto these ones,

0:05:33 > 0:05:35which are actually Elise Christie's old blades.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37I feel like a completely different skater.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41Elise Christie is probably currently the best in the world at the moment,

0:05:41 > 0:05:46so it's pretty amazing to be able to train on her blades.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48It's pretty cool.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51With around 36 centimetres of sharp blade,

0:05:51 > 0:05:54speed skaters need extra protection on the ice.

0:05:54 > 0:06:01So, this is a cut-proof undersuit, and you wear it underneath this.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04This is my club suit, green and red for Robin Hood.

0:06:04 > 0:06:07It's got all this cut-proof material around it,

0:06:07 > 0:06:10and that obviously prevents cuts from the blades.

0:06:10 > 0:06:13And, yeah, this has saved me a lot of times!

0:06:14 > 0:06:17So, with figure skating, things like that, obviously you've got all

0:06:17 > 0:06:22these really nice dresses on and you make yourself look really nice.

0:06:22 > 0:06:27Speed skating, that doesn't matter as much. We do look a bit silly.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30It's kind of funny telling my friends what I wear.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33At the end of the day, you're kind of not really there to look good,

0:06:33 > 0:06:34you're there to win.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37So she's setting her sights high.

0:06:37 > 0:06:41I'd like to get on the GB team, which is quite a big goal, I guess!

0:06:41 > 0:06:45Today, that goal is feeling even more achievable.

0:06:46 > 0:06:50She's been invited to train with the Olympic speed skating squad.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53Yeah, it's a massive deal!

0:06:53 > 0:06:57Very exciting. A bit nerve-racking, but it's good.

0:06:57 > 0:06:59This is going to be the first time that Isabel goes on the ice

0:06:59 > 0:07:01with some of Britain's top skaters,

0:07:01 > 0:07:04who are also some of the top skaters in the world.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07She's the only one that's getting this opportunity,

0:07:07 > 0:07:10because she's demonstrated that she's got something special

0:07:10 > 0:07:12that we want to work with and help nurture.

0:07:12 > 0:07:15First up is the Team GB warm-up.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18Three, two, one, go.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22Then switch.

0:07:24 > 0:07:25Last ten.

0:07:31 > 0:07:32I can't even hold it!

0:07:35 > 0:07:36And rest.

0:07:38 > 0:07:42- So, how was that, Izzy? - Yeah, a really big step up.

0:07:42 > 0:07:46Usually for a warm-up I'll take sort of 20 minutes, maybe.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50This is a lot longer and a lot more exercise!

0:07:50 > 0:07:54Warm-up over. Now let's see if she can keep up with them on the ice.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00With a mixture of Olympians and world champions beside her,

0:08:00 > 0:08:02she's got to work hard

0:08:02 > 0:08:06and just to add some extra pressure, her idol, Elise Christie,

0:08:06 > 0:08:08will be on the ice, too.

0:08:09 > 0:08:11I'm so nervous!

0:08:12 > 0:08:15So it's time for Izzy to get busy.

0:08:15 > 0:08:18First drill, we're going to do some slow and low.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21Make sure we're not just trying to sit in a low position,

0:08:21 > 0:08:24that we're actually getting full extension.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27OK, so on the track. Let's go.

0:08:50 > 0:08:52- How are you feeling, Izzy? - Really, really tired.

0:08:52 > 0:08:55We've got another one of those to do now,

0:08:55 > 0:08:58so I just have to mentally prepare myself.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02Yeah, it's really tough.

0:09:02 > 0:09:03After getting her breath back,

0:09:03 > 0:09:06Izzy gets a chance to meet the owner of her old blades,

0:09:06 > 0:09:08Elise Christie.

0:09:08 > 0:09:12- Hi!- Don't look so scared! Yeah, you look like you're skating well.

0:09:12 > 0:09:18- Thanks.- Just maybe be a bit more aggressive. Coming from me,

0:09:18 > 0:09:20that's funny, because I'm the same.

0:09:20 > 0:09:22But that comes with being on the ice.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25Izzy's now got a chance to put Elise's advice into action

0:09:25 > 0:09:28with the toughest drill of the session,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31a high-speed team relay,

0:09:31 > 0:09:35enough to tire out even the world's best skater.

0:09:35 > 0:09:38I know the session is hard, so I'm a bit nervous about it.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41OK, are you ready?

0:10:01 > 0:10:05After a gruelling 20 minutes, she's made it to the end.

0:10:05 > 0:10:10- How are you feeling?- Pretty tired. Pretty breathless.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13But has she done enough to impress?

0:10:13 > 0:10:15I think for her first time doing it with the national team,

0:10:15 > 0:10:18you couldn't expect any more than that. That was pretty impressive.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21It is good to see her keeping up and getting involved, and she was

0:10:21 > 0:10:24even going out in front for some of them, so she's brave.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26When she gets on the team more often

0:10:26 > 0:10:29and gets to train with us more often, she will definitely improve,

0:10:29 > 0:10:33and I think she'll probably beat some of us in that, so...!

0:10:33 > 0:10:34It's good to see.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37Yeah, it was a good session. I enjoyed it a lot.

0:10:37 > 0:10:39It was nice being with the big ones!

0:10:39 > 0:10:41They're all really friendly, they were all giving me advice,

0:10:41 > 0:10:43so, yeah, it was really good.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47If Izzy keeps putting in the hard work,

0:10:47 > 0:10:52she could soon be training with Team GB and her idol all the time.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57But for now, Izzy is off to an international competition

0:10:57 > 0:11:01in Munich to put her new-found confidence to the test.

0:11:05 > 0:11:08I'm about to be picked up, and we're travelling to Germany,

0:11:08 > 0:11:09so it's all very exciting.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12The whole of this season, I've been travelling alone.

0:11:12 > 0:11:13It's the first year

0:11:13 > 0:11:16where I've been travelling with a coach or with a team.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18I mean, I'm still getting used to it,

0:11:18 > 0:11:23because my mum obviously used to take me everywhere and look after me.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26But it's nice to have that freedom, as well.

0:11:27 > 0:11:31We'll catch up with Izzy on her return and see how she's done.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45Some of the centre's stars can't get enough of the ice.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48They're on it practising nearly every day,

0:11:48 > 0:11:51just like 16-year-old figure skater Emma.

0:11:51 > 0:11:56I was seven years old when I first started skating, and my dad took me.

0:11:56 > 0:11:58I really hated it, cos he was always faster than me.

0:11:58 > 0:12:00I just wanted to beat him.

0:12:02 > 0:12:07Everyone else in my family skates. There's me, my little sister Sarah...

0:12:10 > 0:12:12..and then I have cousins who skate.

0:12:12 > 0:12:14There's Jessica...

0:12:15 > 0:12:16..Ryan...

0:12:18 > 0:12:20..Jamie, who's in the same group as me.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24We're always talking about skating, just like,

0:12:24 > 0:12:30"Oh, are you landing this jump? How's skating going? Are you tired?"

0:12:30 > 0:12:33I'm the oldest out of all of my family.

0:12:33 > 0:12:35I try to set a good example for them, so they can look up to me,

0:12:35 > 0:12:39like I'll warm up, I'll try and eat well so they copy,

0:12:39 > 0:12:44set a good standard so they can aim high.

0:12:44 > 0:12:47Today, Emma's helping her twin cousins with their routine

0:12:47 > 0:12:51for the annual gala, which everyone is working towards.

0:12:51 > 0:12:55- Is there anything you guys want to work on in particular?- Axel.- Axel.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58Axel. Do you want to both show it to me first?

0:12:59 > 0:13:03An axel is a jump with a forward takeoff.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06It's a tricky one, and it takes time to get it perfect.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13OK, that was good. You both landed it.

0:13:13 > 0:13:17You just need to go a bit faster into it, so when you land it,

0:13:17 > 0:13:20you'll flow more when you land it. I'll show you one now.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29- That was good.- Really good.

0:13:32 > 0:13:35OK, so just a bit more speed going into it.

0:13:35 > 0:13:37Do you want to try it again?

0:13:43 > 0:13:46The thing is, Ryan, if you go faster, just don't rush the jump.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49Like, it's the same rhythm. You still go down and go up.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57Training with my cousins Jessica and Ryan was really good today.

0:13:57 > 0:14:01I didn't realise they were that good, actually! Their axels were good.

0:14:01 > 0:14:04From a slow speed, cos they've just learnt to do it,

0:14:04 > 0:14:06they can both land it.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09Oh, it's really good having a cousin like Emma who's a skater

0:14:09 > 0:14:11because she's, like, higher and older than us,

0:14:11 > 0:14:13she can give us really good tips.

0:14:13 > 0:14:19If we can't do a jump, she'll help us land it, what to correct.

0:14:19 > 0:14:23Emma taught me the rhythm of the jump to help me jump forwards

0:14:23 > 0:14:25and not go round.

0:14:25 > 0:14:27Even if I didn't land the jumps,

0:14:27 > 0:14:29I still think I've learnt something new.

0:14:30 > 0:14:33Hopefully, Emma's advice will help Jess and Ryan

0:14:33 > 0:14:35improve just in time for the gala.

0:14:44 > 0:14:48Figure skater Kloe is off to London as a birthday surprise,

0:14:48 > 0:14:50thanks to her best friend, Josh.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55He's arranged a day that he hopes Kloe won't forget,

0:14:55 > 0:14:59and he's invited their skating friend Sasha along, too.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01It's amazing!

0:15:01 > 0:15:04First stop, the dizzy heights of the Shard.

0:15:12 > 0:15:14My ears!

0:15:20 > 0:15:25- Wow!- Look, the London Eye! - Yeah, look.- Where?- There!

0:15:25 > 0:15:28- Do you see the Gherkin, Klo? - Yeah.- That's a pretty easy one, that.

0:15:28 > 0:15:32- There's St Paul's!- St Paul's Cathedral.- Someone's bedroom!

0:15:32 > 0:15:35It kind of looks like you're on a plane,

0:15:35 > 0:15:39and it's really cool, cos you're so high up and you can pretty much,

0:15:39 > 0:15:42like, see the whole of London, and I didn't think it was so big.

0:15:42 > 0:15:44Take a picture of, like, us.

0:15:46 > 0:15:47Smile!

0:15:49 > 0:15:52- Are you having a good birthday? - I am!- Awww!

0:15:52 > 0:15:54I'm so happy to have a friend like him in my life,

0:15:54 > 0:15:59cos I don't think everyone gets a present like this for their birthday.

0:15:59 > 0:16:01And after their sky-high selfie session,

0:16:01 > 0:16:04they head off for a bit of lunch.

0:16:05 > 0:16:08Oh, look, there's the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Klo.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10Oh, yeah!

0:16:14 > 0:16:19- Thank you.- There's your drink. - Thank you.- You're welcome.- Cheers.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22- Happy birthday, Kloe. - Thank you!- It's OK.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24Happy birthday!

0:16:24 > 0:16:28- OK, so now you're 16, you can buy a lottery ticket and stuff.- I know!

0:16:28 > 0:16:31- I think we should get one now. - Yeah.- If we win...

0:16:31 > 0:16:34- If we win, which we aren't going to, but, yeah...- ..what could we do?

0:16:34 > 0:16:37- What could we buy?- I don't know. Where would we want to go?- LA.- LA?

0:16:37 > 0:16:39- We're going to LA. - We are going to LA?

0:16:39 > 0:16:44- What do you think, Sash?- New York. - Just an American trip.- Yeah.

0:16:44 > 0:16:46- And we could buy our own rink or something.- Buy our own ice rink?

0:16:46 > 0:16:50That'd be pretty cool, to have our own ice rink. Private coaching!

0:16:50 > 0:16:55Also, I think if we would win, I would probably, like, pay for, like,

0:16:55 > 0:16:59Selena Gomez to, like, spend a day with me and, like, sing for me.

0:17:02 > 0:17:04- Is that for me?- Oh, thank you!

0:17:06 > 0:17:10- Make a wish. No pressure.- Wait. - That we're going to win the lottery.

0:17:16 > 0:17:19- Thank you, Josh, so much.- It's OK.

0:17:19 > 0:17:22I'm not even kidding, this is the best birthday I've probably ever had.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25- Awww!- Thank you.- Glad we could make it special for you.

0:17:29 > 0:17:33Back in Nottingham, Emma and her skating family are also

0:17:33 > 0:17:37enjoying a break from the ice, with a traditional Chinese meal.

0:17:42 > 0:17:44My mum and dad's restaurant is really good.

0:17:44 > 0:17:48It's really yummy, all the food, and everyone coming, and my family,

0:17:48 > 0:17:50so it's really nice to enjoy.

0:17:53 > 0:17:58Right now, my dad and uncle are fixing up a meal for us to eat,

0:17:58 > 0:18:00so hopefully it's going to be yummy!

0:18:00 > 0:18:04My dad's cooking up some noodles with vegetables.

0:18:04 > 0:18:07And that's really healthy, but it's not one of my favourites.

0:18:07 > 0:18:08But it's still really nice to eat.

0:18:13 > 0:18:14Cheers!

0:18:15 > 0:18:20It's nice that we see each other quite a lot. I love the food.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22It's not the healthiest,

0:18:22 > 0:18:25but I guess you need to relax every once in a while

0:18:25 > 0:18:28and just, like, pig out!

0:18:28 > 0:18:30They might be having a day off their sporting diet,

0:18:30 > 0:18:32but with the gala getting closer,

0:18:32 > 0:18:36this skating-obsessed family can't talk about anything else.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39What jumps do you have in your programme?

0:18:39 > 0:18:44A couple of doubles, so I do double flip, double toe, double loop.

0:18:44 > 0:18:49We do talk about skating a lot and, like, what's going on at the rink.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52My husband started skating quite a few years ago.

0:18:52 > 0:18:56It's wonderful that they're all skating, you know, all five of them.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58It started with Emma,

0:18:58 > 0:19:02and then Jamie and Ryan and Jessica joined in, and Sarah does tag along.

0:19:02 > 0:19:08She loves it. And she'd like to be like her sister, of course.

0:19:08 > 0:19:12If you get too nervous, then it's bad and then you don't perform your best,

0:19:12 > 0:19:15but it is good to have nerves, because sometimes you skate better.

0:19:15 > 0:19:19- EMMA'S MUM:- 'It's not easy, you know?'

0:19:19 > 0:19:22All their friends all go out, especially Emma, teenager now,

0:19:22 > 0:19:24it's getting harder, cos her friends

0:19:24 > 0:19:26want her to go out, sleep over, you know.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28Most of the time, she'll say no.

0:19:28 > 0:19:30It's also nice cos we're away from the rink,

0:19:30 > 0:19:32so we're not in a skating atmosphere.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35So they just all come together, they all talk together and, yeah,

0:19:35 > 0:19:37it's nice.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50Speed skater Izzy is back

0:19:50 > 0:19:53from her international competition in Germany.

0:19:53 > 0:19:58Munich was an open, which basically means that anyone can go,

0:19:58 > 0:20:02so anyone from across the world can go and skate there.

0:20:02 > 0:20:03So that was really cool.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06And after training with Team GB before leaving,

0:20:06 > 0:20:09Munich was her chance to impress.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12I managed to come sixth overall out of around 30,

0:20:12 > 0:20:15which I wasn't expecting, either, so I'm pretty happy.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18I skated the fastest times I have done this season,

0:20:18 > 0:20:21back down to my PBs that I had the previous year.

0:20:21 > 0:20:26It's quite exciting to be able to skate those times again.

0:20:26 > 0:20:28It seems her success abroad has got the coaches

0:20:28 > 0:20:30thinking about Izzy's future.

0:20:32 > 0:20:34Isabel, really, she's talented.

0:20:34 > 0:20:37We've seen that. We believe she's got a lot of potential.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40There's a chance she could be tested to see

0:20:40 > 0:20:43if she's fast enough for a scheme that helps future Olympians.

0:20:45 > 0:20:47It's going to be a big commitment for her

0:20:47 > 0:20:50if she wants to hit that glory at the top step.

0:20:50 > 0:20:54I'd just be with people around my age, and we'd train every day.

0:20:54 > 0:20:57But it would mean moving away from home.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59I think we'd come home for the weekends,

0:20:59 > 0:21:02but it's five days of the week where you're just without parents.

0:21:02 > 0:21:05I guess that's kind of fun, as well,

0:21:05 > 0:21:09but weird to think, cos obviously I'm only 16,

0:21:09 > 0:21:12so it's kind of scary to think that I'd move away.

0:21:12 > 0:21:15We'll be catching up with Izzy later on in the series

0:21:15 > 0:21:17to see if she gets her time trial.

0:21:19 > 0:21:23Figure skater Emma has been skating for eight years,

0:21:23 > 0:21:26which means she's got a lot of costumes in her closet!

0:21:26 > 0:21:28- So heavy.- I know!

0:21:28 > 0:21:31So Emma's showing her cousin Jess what could be passed down to her.

0:21:31 > 0:21:36With Jessica, I'm just showing her all of my past competition dresses.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38She is going to grow up later,

0:21:38 > 0:21:41and she's going to need a dress, and dresses are really expensive,

0:21:41 > 0:21:44and it would be such a shame just to, like, never use those dresses

0:21:44 > 0:21:48again, so passing them down in the family is really nice.

0:21:48 > 0:21:52It's sort of like I'm passing down the look to Jessica, in a way.

0:21:52 > 0:21:55I like the purple one because of the pattern and the colour.

0:21:55 > 0:21:58That one's OK, but I don't like it as much.

0:21:58 > 0:22:00Skating costumes aren't cheap.

0:22:00 > 0:22:03Brand-new ones can cost hundreds of pounds,

0:22:03 > 0:22:06and Olympic dresses can cost thousands.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10Do costumes like, get more points or is it just your technical thing?

0:22:10 > 0:22:14It doesn't really give you points, but I guess it makes you feel better.

0:22:14 > 0:22:18So, would you like to maybe choose a dress and try one on?

0:22:18 > 0:22:20- I'll have the purple one. - The purple one.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22- Yeah.- OK.- Cos I like this one.

0:22:25 > 0:22:26I think she's excited.

0:22:26 > 0:22:31Jessica's really sort of like a girlie girl, I'd say,

0:22:31 > 0:22:33and I guess she likes really sparkly things.

0:22:35 > 0:22:38- I really like it!- Actually, that's not a bad fit, is it?

0:22:38 > 0:22:42Can you move in it, like move your arms a bit, twist a bit?

0:22:42 > 0:22:45Yeah. It's really, like, easy to move in it.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48- Some costumes are, like, stiff. - Try and touch the floor,

0:22:48 > 0:22:52cos sometimes dresses, if they're too short, they give you a wedgie,

0:22:52 > 0:22:55- so you don't want that! Does it feel good?- Yeah.

0:22:55 > 0:22:59It's really nice to try on someone else's dress, cos they, like,

0:22:59 > 0:23:03have memories in it, so I can have memories in it, as well,

0:23:03 > 0:23:05and it'll be really nice to, like, have their look in it

0:23:05 > 0:23:09and it'll be really fun to just skate on the ice and have fun.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19Recently, ice dancer Chloe was nearly picked to be partnered

0:23:19 > 0:23:22with new boy Adriano.

0:23:22 > 0:23:24But in the end, he chose Ella.

0:23:25 > 0:23:30It's really, really, really hard to find a boy that does ice dance,

0:23:30 > 0:23:35cos they get teased by their friends, they get called names.

0:23:35 > 0:23:37So she teamed up with fellow solo skaters Lauren

0:23:37 > 0:23:40and Kershia to try and find a partner.

0:23:40 > 0:23:45There's so many girls without partners. And it's really sad,

0:23:45 > 0:23:48because they are really talented, and it's upsetting to see.

0:23:50 > 0:23:54They've already tried Plan A, a partner-finding website.

0:23:54 > 0:23:56- Got one.- I have one.

0:23:56 > 0:23:59- From Latvia.- Latvia?

0:23:59 > 0:24:02But with no luck, they're trying Plan B.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10Every Friday night at the Olympic Rink, it's disco night,

0:24:10 > 0:24:14and the girls have decided to go talent spotting.

0:24:14 > 0:24:15- Hi!- Hi!

0:24:17 > 0:24:19Are you ready for this?

0:24:19 > 0:24:22I've actually seen some people that are quite decent skaters,

0:24:22 > 0:24:25- so...- As long as they're not in hockey skates.

0:24:25 > 0:24:28You could always transfer them out of hockey skates.

0:24:28 > 0:24:33They might surprise you. There might be a star just waiting to be born!

0:24:33 > 0:24:37- OK, are you ready for it? - Yeah.- Yes. Let's go.

0:24:38 > 0:24:40Fingers crossed, girls.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47MUSIC: Girls Chase Boys by Ingrid Michaelson

0:24:51 > 0:24:53I'm feeling quite nervous, cos I don't know

0:24:53 > 0:24:57if there's going to be anyone really good enough, but people can

0:24:57 > 0:25:01surprise you, and I'm hoping that there'll be some good ones.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05There are lots of boys on the ice, but they need someone tall...

0:25:05 > 0:25:07He's quite tall.

0:25:07 > 0:25:12- ..with good balance...- Yeah, but he's really wobbly.- Yeah!

0:25:12 > 0:25:14..and strong enough to lift them.

0:25:14 > 0:25:16Him trying to lift us up?!

0:25:23 > 0:25:26Finally, they spot someone who might be right.

0:25:28 > 0:25:32I think maybe the best thing to do is to, like, actually kind of

0:25:32 > 0:25:35talk to them, cos then if you're actually face-to-face,

0:25:35 > 0:25:39it's a little bit easier to kind of judge, like, what they're like.

0:25:39 > 0:25:42So the girls waste no time and take Raph and Josh

0:25:42 > 0:25:44off the ice to assess them.

0:25:45 > 0:25:49Basically, like, we're ice dancers, so, like, we need a partner, really.

0:25:49 > 0:25:52You know, like what Torvill and Dean did?

0:25:52 > 0:25:54It's kind of like that, but we need a partner.

0:25:54 > 0:25:57- Now we have to skate by ourselves. - We can only compete with a partner.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01- Do you come here quite a lot, or is it just...?- We come here quite a lot.

0:26:01 > 0:26:04Do you mainly come for the disco sessions, or...?

0:26:04 > 0:26:08I've come before for, like, y'know, like, the family one on Sundays.

0:26:08 > 0:26:09Oh, yeah, yeah.

0:26:09 > 0:26:13I come Thursdays, Friday nights and Saturday nights.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15You're actually quite tall, aren't you?

0:26:15 > 0:26:18- How tall are you?- Six two.

0:26:18 > 0:26:20Makes me feel even smaller!

0:26:20 > 0:26:22It's like a whole foot taller than me.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24Do you think you'd find it weird, like, skating, like,

0:26:24 > 0:26:27quite close to a girl, like, all the time?

0:26:27 > 0:26:32- Doesn't really bother me.- So it'd be quite natural?- Yeah.

0:26:32 > 0:26:36- Could you imagine coming on the ice at five o'clock in the morning?- No.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38What's the earliest you'd come here?

0:26:38 > 0:26:42- Eleven. Ten.- Half ten.

0:26:42 > 0:26:46- So, would you guys actually ever consider ice dance, or...?- I would.

0:26:46 > 0:26:47You would?

0:26:49 > 0:26:53With the assessment over, the girls leave the disco to compare notes.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56Yeah, they were actually quite tall for their age.

0:26:56 > 0:26:58I can't believe how old they was.

0:26:58 > 0:27:00When they told me they'd actually consider doing it...

0:27:00 > 0:27:02- Yeah, they weren't just... - SHE SCOFFS

0:27:02 > 0:27:05- They thought about it.- Although, to be fair, when I told them it was

0:27:05 > 0:27:08five o'clock in the morning, their faces dropped a little bit.

0:27:08 > 0:27:13I think you need to find somebody that can already skate like we can.

0:27:13 > 0:27:15Yeah, who's done the levels.

0:27:15 > 0:27:19I think if we was younger, I think it'd make a big difference,

0:27:19 > 0:27:23because we'd be able to grow them and bring them through with us.

0:27:23 > 0:27:25Yeah, they're talented, but they're just not the right age

0:27:25 > 0:27:28and level and it's not really going to happen.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31It looks like the girls' search will have to go on.

0:27:32 > 0:27:35Next time on Ice Stars,

0:27:35 > 0:27:39food poisoning threatens Liam's chance to make it into Team GB...

0:27:39 > 0:27:43Us three don't feel too good. These two have been sick. I haven't yet,

0:27:43 > 0:27:45but I can feel it coming up soon.

0:27:45 > 0:27:48..Ella's determined not to let others

0:27:48 > 0:27:50stop her from chasing her dreams...

0:27:50 > 0:27:55I'm not going to give up because of what people say about me.

0:27:55 > 0:27:58..and disaster strikes for synchro captain Emily.
