0:00:12 > 0:00:13Bend your knees!

0:00:15 > 0:00:17We're not first to the puck, we're last!

0:00:17 > 0:00:19Unacceptable!

0:00:20 > 0:00:24Making it as a champion skater doesn't come easy.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26It takes years of practice...

0:00:26 > 0:00:28Keep going, keep going!

0:00:28 > 0:00:29..hard work...

0:00:29 > 0:00:33What is that? You're like a little old man at the end.

0:00:33 > 0:00:34..and dedication.

0:00:34 > 0:00:37Speed, speed. Faster, faster, faster, faster. Come on.

0:00:41 > 0:00:45But even then, only a few will become tomorrow's...

0:00:51 > 0:00:54This is the Ice Centre in Nottingham.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57It's where future ice stars work hard to get to the top.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02With two rinks,

0:01:02 > 0:01:05it was built to honour Torvill and Dean,

0:01:05 > 0:01:08the city's famous Olympic gold medal winners.

0:01:11 > 0:01:15And there are plenty of others who want to follow in their footsteps.

0:01:20 > 0:01:21Coming up -

0:01:21 > 0:01:25food poisoning threatens Liam's chance to make it into Team GB...

0:01:25 > 0:01:26Us three don't feel too good.

0:01:26 > 0:01:28These two have been sick.

0:01:28 > 0:01:32I haven't yet, but I can feel it coming up soon.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34..Ella's determined not to let others stop her

0:01:34 > 0:01:36from chasing her dreams...

0:01:36 > 0:01:41I'm not going to give up because of what people say about me.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44..and disaster strikes for synchro captain Emily.

0:01:51 > 0:01:55The Cougars are the Ice Centre's under-16 ice hockey team.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57And their defensive rock, Liam...

0:01:57 > 0:01:58Liam!

0:01:58 > 0:02:00..is mad about the game.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03I never stop watching hockey and playing it,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05all the way, every year, every week.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09I don't know, I just seem to have a connection with it.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12It's just, you know, you could probably say it's in my blood.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17But in a recent must-win game for his team,

0:02:17 > 0:02:21Liam's passion boiled over and he was sent off the ice.

0:02:21 > 0:02:22You're never going to win an argument

0:02:22 > 0:02:24with the referee, whatever sport.

0:02:24 > 0:02:25Liam got kicked out

0:02:25 > 0:02:26of the game for that.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28But he'll learn from that,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30he'll be mature enough to learn.

0:02:30 > 0:02:31Well, hopefully, one day, anyway.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37So, today he's got a chance to show that he's got the potential

0:02:37 > 0:02:39to be a top professional one day.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43He's been invited to Dumfries in Scotland,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45where he'll be battling against nine other players

0:02:45 > 0:02:49for a chance to represent Great Britain at the Youth Olympics.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52There's hundreds of kids who would love to take your spot,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54so you've got to work hard, club level, Midlands, England.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57You've got to make sure you're always working hard to make sure

0:02:57 > 0:03:01you do deserve that spot that other kids would love to have.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06After his recent sending off against Sutton,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08Liam's started to realise it's not just

0:03:08 > 0:03:10about working hard at your game.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12I get pumped up quite easily.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14The odd time it has spilled out of control,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17it can end up me getting thrown out of the game or whatever.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19It happens, you know, it's sport.

0:03:19 > 0:03:21You see professionals lose it.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Erm, but, again, it's just learning how to control it,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26and I think I'm getting there.

0:03:27 > 0:03:32Liam's going to need his new-found self-control now more than ever.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34To be selected for the Youth Olympics,

0:03:34 > 0:03:36he must get noticed today.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39He'll be taking on nine other selected players,

0:03:39 > 0:03:41and some of them are familiar faces.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43I've seen a few people I know from England,

0:03:43 > 0:03:46and also tournaments that I've played in before.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49I know a bit more about who I'm competing against now.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56Liam might recognise England team-mates Lewis and Findlay,

0:03:56 > 0:03:59but for this trial it's every man for himself.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02I see quite a few faces that I recognise from England

0:04:02 > 0:04:05and Midlands, but you have to compete against them,

0:04:05 > 0:04:07because they'll take your spot.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09It's just simple as that.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12The test measures strength, agility and accuracy on the ice,

0:04:12 > 0:04:15but there can be only one winner.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18If you go to Lillehammer, and it will be part of Team GB,

0:04:18 > 0:04:20it won't be Ice Hockey UK, it won't be your club,

0:04:20 > 0:04:22it will be Team GB.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25So you get the tracksuits, the jackets, the trainers,

0:04:25 > 0:04:28everything that the Olympic team get.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32So you go officially to the Youth Olympics.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34The competition is stiff.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37So to be in with a chance, Liam has got to keep his cool.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40- WHISTLE BLOWS - First up, the speed test.

0:04:41 > 0:04:45They need to skate one lap of the ice as quickly as possible.

0:04:49 > 0:04:50Liam.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58Come on, Liam, keep going.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01Er, 17.44.

0:05:01 > 0:05:02That's good.

0:05:05 > 0:05:07Liam, well done.

0:05:07 > 0:05:08Good job.

0:05:08 > 0:05:12Next up is the first agility test.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14WHISTLE BLOWS

0:05:23 > 0:05:27You have to stop up here on the line, stop and back through.

0:05:33 > 0:05:35Liam's done well in the first two tests,

0:05:35 > 0:05:37but he's not looking too pleased.

0:05:39 > 0:05:41Us three don't feel so good.

0:05:41 > 0:05:42These two have been sick.

0:05:42 > 0:05:46I haven't yet, but I can feel it coming up...soon.

0:05:48 > 0:05:49Dodgy eggs at the hotel.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51I don't feel too good from them.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58Unfortunately, a couple of lads and himself felt a little bit queasy.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00It looks like... We all stayed in the same hotel,

0:06:00 > 0:06:02it looks like we've had something to eat.

0:06:02 > 0:06:04A few of the parents are the same,

0:06:04 > 0:06:07which is not the best thing for a trial.

0:06:07 > 0:06:08After the good start,

0:06:08 > 0:06:11things don't seem to be going as Liam planned.

0:06:11 > 0:06:13I feel like I'm going to be sick.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15I think I am.

0:06:15 > 0:06:17You know when you start feeling it coming up?

0:06:19 > 0:06:21HE MUMBLES

0:06:21 > 0:06:24I would if I was you, I'd tell them.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26I'll tell them we've both fallen ill.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30These things happen, so you just have to get on with it, I guess,

0:06:30 > 0:06:33and just try our best without barfing up everywhere.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38With a chance to represent Team GB at stake,

0:06:38 > 0:06:42all Liam can do is dig in for the second agility test.

0:06:42 > 0:06:44This trial is waiting for no-one.

0:06:44 > 0:06:45Go on, Liam, go. Push, push!

0:06:48 > 0:06:4919.97.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53Liam, 20.04.

0:06:53 > 0:06:54Cool, thank you.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56With his chances to impress running out,

0:06:56 > 0:06:59let's hope Liam's on the mark for the shooting test.

0:07:08 > 0:07:09You got one.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11Only one goal, Liam,

0:07:11 > 0:07:13you really are under the weather!

0:07:17 > 0:07:20I can't even hit the bottom ones either!

0:07:20 > 0:07:24Just got to make sure I nail it on this next one and, you know,

0:07:24 > 0:07:26make sure I finish as high as I can.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30Last up is the passing accuracy test,

0:07:30 > 0:07:34and Liam needs to win points here to make up for his shooting disaster.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37That's one,

0:07:37 > 0:07:39two,

0:07:39 > 0:07:41three,

0:07:41 > 0:07:42four...

0:07:46 > 0:07:48..and five!

0:07:48 > 0:07:51Yes, Liam, that's more like it!

0:07:51 > 0:07:53Smashed it under 13.35 for all five targets.

0:07:55 > 0:07:57OK, that's as much as we can do for today.

0:07:57 > 0:07:58We will be in touch, as I say,

0:07:58 > 0:08:01hopefully within the next two to three days maximum.

0:08:01 > 0:08:05Everybody's times have been superb and I think you deserve huge credit.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07Thank you very much. Good luck going forward.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10We'll be in touch, boys, all right? Good job, well done.

0:08:10 > 0:08:12He's in the mix. He's one of, I would say,

0:08:12 > 0:08:14six that are definitely in the mix.

0:08:14 > 0:08:16And, yeah, I think Liam can be very, very proud of his work.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19I wanted to come here and do really well, but, you know,

0:08:19 > 0:08:23things stop you from doing that and being ill doesn't help at all.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25He may not have felt his best,

0:08:25 > 0:08:27but Liam refused to give up.

0:08:28 > 0:08:31It's going to feel like a long drive home

0:08:31 > 0:08:34and an even longer wait until the results come in.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40Ice hockey isn't the only team sport at the centre.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44It's also home to the synchronised skating team, The Icicles.

0:08:51 > 0:08:55Synchro is a team of 16 girls, and we all skate together.

0:08:57 > 0:08:58You do nothing on your own

0:08:58 > 0:09:00and everyone's got to look exactly the same.

0:09:00 > 0:09:04I've done it for ten years, so it's been a major part of my life.

0:09:04 > 0:09:08This year, it's a big commitment because I've become captain.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11I like it because it's teamwork and you get to know all of the team,

0:09:11 > 0:09:14and it's kind of like a mini family, and I really like that environment.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20And Emily's obsession with the ice is something that

0:09:20 > 0:09:21her mum and sister share, too.

0:09:21 > 0:09:23What do you think we ought to do?

0:09:23 > 0:09:25Do you think we ought to try some crystals down here?

0:09:25 > 0:09:27I think you should have a few on the blue bit.

0:09:27 > 0:09:28Not too many.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30- Say five on that?- Yeah.

0:09:30 > 0:09:32My mum does the dresses, so she crystals them,

0:09:32 > 0:09:35my sister does the make-up for our team, so they're always there,

0:09:35 > 0:09:38and they always come to competitions, so it's a really nice thing to do.

0:09:38 > 0:09:42Emily's family have been involved in her skating life for ten years,

0:09:42 > 0:09:45but all that may soon be coming to an end.

0:09:45 > 0:09:48And that'll mean no more costume design for Mum,

0:09:48 > 0:09:50and no more make-up for sister Lizzie.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52It's a big decision for Emily

0:09:52 > 0:09:54that could affect the whole family.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57This year, it's a big commitment because I've become captain,

0:09:57 > 0:10:00but then I've got to choose whether I stay next season or not

0:10:00 > 0:10:02because of schoolwork.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05I struggled this year, so if I had to quit,

0:10:05 > 0:10:07I'd miss it.

0:10:07 > 0:10:09Being a top synchronised skater

0:10:09 > 0:10:12means putting in a lot of time and hard work.

0:10:12 > 0:10:16And training for the upcoming World Championships in Croatia,

0:10:16 > 0:10:18whilst keeping up with her schoolwork,

0:10:18 > 0:10:20is proving difficult for Emily.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24So, she has a big decision to make -

0:10:24 > 0:10:26skate or school?

0:10:28 > 0:10:31Skating's a lovely commitment and it's fun, and you go to competitions

0:10:31 > 0:10:34- and things, but obviously school always has to come first.- Mm-hm.

0:10:34 > 0:10:36I must admit, I will miss it if you don't do it,

0:10:36 > 0:10:39- cos I enjoy doing crystalling... - I know, I'd miss it.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42..and I'd miss all the people we're with and the parents,

0:10:42 > 0:10:45cos it takes up so much of your life and our life.

0:10:45 > 0:10:48I'd love her to continue for another year with her skating.

0:10:48 > 0:10:50I think it's a natural break when you finish school

0:10:50 > 0:10:53and you move on to university that you could give up then.

0:10:53 > 0:10:54I personally would miss it,

0:10:54 > 0:10:57cos I'd miss meeting obviously all the other mums going to the rink

0:10:57 > 0:11:00and watching it, and it's actually such a nice relaxing sport to watch.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02It's nice, quite therapeutic, to sit and watch all the girls

0:11:02 > 0:11:06training together, but, at the end of the day, it's her decision,

0:11:06 > 0:11:09which I hope she does do one more year.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12If I did leave, I'd be ending it on a high, like, I'm captain.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15Thing is, I'm not sure who'd do all the costumes...

0:11:15 > 0:11:17- I know.- ..and all the work that all the parents of the ones

0:11:17 > 0:11:20- that possibly could leave would do. - Who's going to do the make-up?

0:11:20 > 0:11:23- And all the hair?- Yeah. You could still go, Lizzie.

0:11:23 > 0:11:28- Yeah.- On your own.- I'd just feel a bit sad. It's not the same, is it?

0:11:28 > 0:11:31I'd be really sad if Emily gives up, because I love it.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33I love the whole...the whole...

0:11:33 > 0:11:37It's like a community and I'd just be really sad.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39I'd really hate it.

0:11:39 > 0:11:41I don't know, it's hard to decide.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43I don't want to leave, cos I'd definitely miss it,

0:11:43 > 0:11:45cos I've done it for about seven years,

0:11:45 > 0:11:49but then I really want to do well in my exams so I can go to uni.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52So it's all about what happens with school,

0:11:52 > 0:11:54and how everything else works out.

0:11:54 > 0:11:56Whatever Emily decides to do,

0:11:56 > 0:11:59she has the World Championships to get ready for first.

0:11:59 > 0:12:00And they're approaching fast,

0:12:00 > 0:12:02so she'd better get her skates on!

0:12:10 > 0:12:15Ice Dancer Ella recently found herself a new partner in Adriano.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18When I found out that I was going to be partnered with Adriano,

0:12:18 > 0:12:20I felt really happy.

0:12:20 > 0:12:22- Hello!- Hey, how you doing?- Hello!

0:12:22 > 0:12:25It's a moment that she's worked long and hard for.

0:12:27 > 0:12:28Cheers,

0:12:28 > 0:12:30- to Adriano and Ella.- ALL: Cheers.

0:12:30 > 0:12:36I'm really looking forward to doing my first competition with Adriano.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40Ella and Adriano's partnership may be new,

0:12:40 > 0:12:43but she's been training on the ice for the last five years.

0:12:47 > 0:12:51These are all my medals and trophies that I've won for skating

0:12:51 > 0:12:54at competitions that I've been to.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57Ice skating takes up, like, most of my life.

0:12:57 > 0:12:58Well, it is my life, really.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02I think I skate more than I sleep.

0:13:07 > 0:13:11Training 20 hours on the ice each week, with 5am starts,

0:13:11 > 0:13:14is a commitment some people may not understand.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19I don't think people at school know how many hours

0:13:19 > 0:13:22I actually put into this,

0:13:22 > 0:13:25and sometimes when I'm skating,

0:13:25 > 0:13:27I miss a few lessons of school,

0:13:27 > 0:13:31and they think that I never catch up

0:13:31 > 0:13:33and I'm just skiving, when I'm not.

0:13:33 > 0:13:36I actually take it home after school

0:13:36 > 0:13:39and do it when I have spare time.

0:13:43 > 0:13:48I'm not going to give up because of what people say about me.

0:13:48 > 0:13:52If I do quit, then when I'm older, I'll look back and think,

0:13:52 > 0:13:54"Why did I do that?"

0:13:54 > 0:13:56I'm just going to keep working hard

0:13:56 > 0:13:59and try to get the best I can be.

0:14:01 > 0:14:05I think I sacrificed my friendships with people at school

0:14:05 > 0:14:08because of what I do outside of school.

0:14:09 > 0:14:13Sometimes I'm not bothered because I have other friends.

0:14:13 > 0:14:18But Ella does have some friends who understand her love of skating.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20What does your costume look like?

0:14:20 > 0:14:24Well, I've got a yellow leotard,

0:14:24 > 0:14:28and then my skirt, it's got, like, white with black polka dots on it,

0:14:28 > 0:14:30and then, like, a sequinned belt.

0:14:30 > 0:14:32Are you guys coming to watch me at the gala?

0:14:32 > 0:14:34- ALL:- Yeah! - Don't wave like my mum.

0:14:34 > 0:14:36OK, we'll wave!

0:14:36 > 0:14:38I wouldn't miss it for the world.

0:14:41 > 0:14:43SCREAMING AND LAUGHTER

0:14:43 > 0:14:45Do that thing that you do on skates.

0:14:45 > 0:14:47You know the one where you go like that?

0:14:47 > 0:14:50- What, that Toby just did? - Well, kind of!

0:14:50 > 0:14:52- LAUGHTER - No, but you, like...

0:14:52 > 0:14:55It's really nice to have friends over and be in the sun,

0:14:55 > 0:14:58playing on the trampoline, because I don't do that very often.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Earlier in the season,

0:15:11 > 0:15:14the synchro team took part in the British Championships.

0:15:14 > 0:15:16ALL: Go, Icicles!

0:15:20 > 0:15:24Following a disastrous warm-up, where Afton took a fall...

0:15:24 > 0:15:26CHEERING

0:15:26 > 0:15:30..the team went on to qualify for the World Championships in Croatia.

0:15:30 > 0:15:33FANS: Icicles win again!

0:15:33 > 0:15:35The World Championships are really important.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38It's the biggest competition you could ever do

0:15:38 > 0:15:39with synchronised skating.

0:15:42 > 0:15:46So with the team's focus now fully on the World Championships,

0:15:46 > 0:15:47the hard work is under way.

0:15:54 > 0:15:56Don't be lazy on the spirals.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58Reach as high as you can.

0:15:58 > 0:16:02Special technical coach Chris has been brought in to put

0:16:02 > 0:16:05the girls through their paces and perfect their routine.

0:16:05 > 0:16:06He can be scary.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09He can be really harsh at times.

0:16:09 > 0:16:12If you fall, you must get up and back in immediately.

0:16:12 > 0:16:14Don't cry, don't do anything else,

0:16:14 > 0:16:16just get up, get on, and perform.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19He can be mean, but he only says it cos he wants us to do well,

0:16:19 > 0:16:23so he will push us hard, but it's always worth it in the end.

0:16:23 > 0:16:27It's not just getting the knee and the foot at hip height.

0:16:27 > 0:16:30It must be above hip height throughout.

0:16:30 > 0:16:34With Chris and coach Esther watching on, no mistakes will go unnoticed.

0:16:37 > 0:16:39But struggling to link arms,

0:16:39 > 0:16:41the girls haven't started well.

0:16:41 > 0:16:45You weren't round enough, you didn't drive enough around the short

0:16:45 > 0:16:47barrier to get into position.

0:16:47 > 0:16:49You were lazy.

0:16:49 > 0:16:51So, obviously, to impress Chris you have to do a lot,

0:16:51 > 0:16:53but the girls are working really hard.

0:16:53 > 0:16:55He hasn't said "well done" yet,

0:16:55 > 0:16:58so they have to work a lot harder to get a "well done".

0:16:58 > 0:17:00The girls give everything they've got...

0:17:02 > 0:17:04..but just as they're finding a rhythm...

0:17:04 > 0:17:05EMILY GROANS

0:17:05 > 0:17:07..Emily's in trouble.

0:17:09 > 0:17:11- You all right?- Yeah.

0:17:11 > 0:17:13You know, cos you pushed and I was like...

0:17:13 > 0:17:16- CHOKING GASP - She's hurt her shoulder.

0:17:17 > 0:17:20When we had speed, my shoulder went the opposite way

0:17:20 > 0:17:21with the girl that went slow,

0:17:21 > 0:17:25so I don't know if it popped out a bit and popped back,

0:17:25 > 0:17:26but it really hurts.

0:17:27 > 0:17:31But there's no time to rest and Emily wants to skate on.

0:17:31 > 0:17:33Everybody pushing!

0:17:36 > 0:17:37Down!

0:17:38 > 0:17:40- Shoulder hold, Lucy!- Pivot!

0:17:40 > 0:17:42Pivot, pivot, pivot!

0:17:46 > 0:17:47He's going to kill me.

0:17:50 > 0:17:52Faster!

0:17:52 > 0:17:55But Chris and coach Esther aren't impressed with what they see.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58- Move in front of each other. - Move it, move this way!

0:17:58 > 0:17:59Come on! Skate, skate, skate!

0:18:00 > 0:18:02My legs hurt.

0:18:04 > 0:18:05Pushing harder and faster,

0:18:05 > 0:18:07the girls go all out...

0:18:13 > 0:18:15..but Emily seems to be pushing it to the limit.

0:18:18 > 0:18:21At this level, as you can imagine, going to a World Championship,

0:18:21 > 0:18:23there are no passengers.

0:18:23 > 0:18:26They all have to be putting in 100% effort.

0:18:26 > 0:18:28And it's not just about them,

0:18:28 > 0:18:29it's about the whole team.

0:18:29 > 0:18:32Knowing the World Championships aren't far away,

0:18:32 > 0:18:35Emily gets her shoulder strapped and keeps going.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38Everyone's always got some sort of injury that you just have to push

0:18:38 > 0:18:42through, cos every minute counts of training before a competition.

0:18:42 > 0:18:46You two, you're about to rotate, then you two just close the gap.

0:18:46 > 0:18:49And who has to go through between you?

0:18:49 > 0:18:51Yeah, she's got no chance.

0:18:51 > 0:18:54Absolutely not a Scooby-Doo of a chance.

0:18:55 > 0:18:58Injured Emily's doing it better than you two!

0:19:00 > 0:19:03We always have an injury on synchro.

0:19:03 > 0:19:05Not a day goes by.

0:19:05 > 0:19:08Chris continues perfecting the small details of the routine.

0:19:08 > 0:19:09Rotate!

0:19:12 > 0:19:15OK, that was too late. Back again.

0:19:15 > 0:19:16Move out more.

0:19:16 > 0:19:18Move out a bit more.

0:19:18 > 0:19:19One,

0:19:19 > 0:19:20two...

0:19:20 > 0:19:22rotate!

0:19:23 > 0:19:25- Yeah, that's better.- That's it.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27- THUD - Oh, no!

0:19:27 > 0:19:28Jump up, Em!

0:19:28 > 0:19:32Emily's fallen on her already injured shoulder.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35- SHE WEEPS - Everyone, go to the barriers.

0:19:37 > 0:19:39..my shoulder!

0:19:39 > 0:19:40What did you...

0:19:44 > 0:19:46- What did you hit?- It was just the top of my shoulder.

0:19:46 > 0:19:47On your shoulder?

0:19:49 > 0:19:51It doesn't look good for the team captain.

0:19:51 > 0:19:52One, two, three...

0:19:54 > 0:19:58Oh, dear. Look at your face. You've got ice all over you, duck!

0:19:59 > 0:20:00That was better.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04Oh, Emmy Benny, what are we going to do with you?

0:20:06 > 0:20:09With coach Esther not wanting to risk Emily's shoulder,

0:20:09 > 0:20:12she's made to sit out for the rest of the session.

0:20:12 > 0:20:14I didn't want to cry but sometimes you just have to,

0:20:14 > 0:20:16if it's too painful.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18I've got shooting pains all the way up my shoulder,

0:20:18 > 0:20:21but I'm hoping that tomorrow, it'll be a bit better.

0:20:21 > 0:20:24With the World Championships approaching,

0:20:24 > 0:20:27will The Icicles be competing without their captain?

0:20:36 > 0:20:40Just like Emily, Liam's knows how a bad day on the ice can feel.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43Now back from Dumfries, Liam is looking forward to

0:20:43 > 0:20:46hearing his results from the skills test.

0:20:46 > 0:20:50I'm just waiting for the email to come through on whether I've...

0:20:50 > 0:20:53What position I've come, if I come in the top three or not.

0:20:53 > 0:20:58Just hoping. Fingers crossed that I do well and I haven't let myself

0:20:58 > 0:21:00down too much.

0:21:01 > 0:21:04Dad, I got the email for the GB skills.

0:21:04 > 0:21:06The results are in.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10Let's have a read, then.

0:21:10 > 0:21:12RH UK are writing to advise you,

0:21:12 > 0:21:15that Liam has finished fifth overall.

0:21:16 > 0:21:21At the end of the day, that's an achievement. Top five.

0:21:21 > 0:21:25- Well done.- Cheers.

0:21:25 > 0:21:26Smile, then.

0:21:26 > 0:21:31Liam didn't show much sort of emotion, which is typical Liam,

0:21:31 > 0:21:35but I think, deep down, he's disappointed.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40Like every kid, you know, they want to be number one

0:21:40 > 0:21:42but like I say, we're really proud of him,

0:21:42 > 0:21:45and he's finished fifth, so, yeah, we're really, really pleased.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48Dad was fairly happy with it, a bit contrasting to how I felt,

0:21:48 > 0:21:51because obviously I want to be better, always all the time.

0:21:51 > 0:21:53It's a good experience to have, you know.

0:21:53 > 0:21:57Anything with GB is always a good experience.

0:21:57 > 0:22:01So, looking forward to my future with Great Britain, hopefully.

0:22:01 > 0:22:04Coming fifth in the country is a great result, especially

0:22:04 > 0:22:06when he was sick.

0:22:06 > 0:22:09Just imagine what he could do when he's on top form.

0:22:16 > 0:22:20Figure skater Kloe has arranged to meet up with ice dancer Ella.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25She's heard Ella's been having a tough time fitting in recently,

0:22:25 > 0:22:29and wants to share her experiences.

0:22:29 > 0:22:32- You all right?- Yeah, are you? - Good, thank you.

0:22:32 > 0:22:35I thought I would come and talk to you.

0:22:35 > 0:22:36So, how have you been

0:22:36 > 0:22:38feeling about everything?

0:22:38 > 0:22:41At school they don't really listen to me,

0:22:41 > 0:22:44because they have their own interests, so they think that

0:22:44 > 0:22:47whatever I do isn't as important as whatever they do.

0:22:47 > 0:22:50Well, I think it's not that they don't want to listen to you,

0:22:50 > 0:22:53I think it's that they don't know what to say,

0:22:53 > 0:22:55because they can't relate to what you do.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58I think half of it is because when I go away,

0:22:58 > 0:23:00I don't do what they did yesterday.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Like, when they go to parties, I can't go because I'm training,

0:23:03 > 0:23:06and then the next day at school,

0:23:06 > 0:23:08they'll all be saying how fun the party was.

0:23:09 > 0:23:13When I moved to my new school here, like, in, you know...

0:23:13 > 0:23:16I was different to everyone else because I couldn't speak

0:23:16 > 0:23:21the language and everything, but I think they didn't really get

0:23:21 > 0:23:25the fact that I was going, you know, every morning before school,

0:23:25 > 0:23:29and then after school and I get to miss school because of this.

0:23:29 > 0:23:32It's not because they didn't like it, it was just because

0:23:32 > 0:23:33they don't know what you do.

0:23:33 > 0:23:36You know, different is good, that's how I think

0:23:36 > 0:23:41about it, because I think you have to keep, you know, staying positive.

0:23:41 > 0:23:46- Yeah.- It'll definitely get better with time, cos you're really young

0:23:46 > 0:23:49and your friends are really young as well.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52You just have to, you know, keep doing what you love.

0:23:52 > 0:23:53That'll make you happy.

0:23:53 > 0:23:56If you ever need to talk to someone or anything,

0:23:56 > 0:23:59- I will always talk to you if you want.- Thanks for talking to me.

0:23:59 > 0:24:00You're welcome.

0:24:02 > 0:24:06I think this little chat with Ella went really well, and I felt like I

0:24:06 > 0:24:09made her better with talking to her about how I can relate

0:24:09 > 0:24:11to everything,

0:24:11 > 0:24:15you know, she was saying and I just hope everything gets better for her.

0:24:15 > 0:24:20It was really nice to talk to someone who has been in the same

0:24:20 > 0:24:22situation as I am now.

0:24:22 > 0:24:26It really helped me and she managed to get through it,

0:24:26 > 0:24:28so I think I can as well.

0:24:28 > 0:24:30Nice one, Ella!

0:24:39 > 0:24:42The World Championships are just days away,

0:24:42 > 0:24:45but Captain Emily is still nursing her shoulder injury.

0:24:45 > 0:24:49I've never really had a major injury before, like, I've had

0:24:49 > 0:24:52bruised knees, elbows and stuff but that's just normal

0:24:52 > 0:24:53when you fall over.

0:24:53 > 0:24:55Could you warm this up for me?

0:24:55 > 0:24:57Yeah, sure. How's it been feeling today?

0:24:57 > 0:25:00It feels fine, a bit better because no-one has really been

0:25:00 > 0:25:01touching it.

0:25:01 > 0:25:04I've told everyone not come near me at school.

0:25:04 > 0:25:06Have you done some exercises to keep moving it about?

0:25:06 > 0:25:09Yeah, I've been wobbling it, but I can't really put my arm up

0:25:09 > 0:25:10really high.

0:25:10 > 0:25:13Oh, it's nearly done.

0:25:13 > 0:25:17Let's take it out. It starts to smell like biscuits, doesn't it,

0:25:17 > 0:25:19if you leave it too long?

0:25:20 > 0:25:22Stick it up there.

0:25:22 > 0:25:25At least it makes the tape stick more if you put that underneath it.

0:25:25 > 0:25:29- It burns.- I know, it can get a little bit too hot if you overdo it.

0:25:29 > 0:25:32OK, get back to work, then.

0:25:32 > 0:25:36Emily's no quitter. She's still aiming for the World Championships.

0:25:36 > 0:25:39Even if my shoulder did get worse, I'd definitely go.

0:25:39 > 0:25:42I can't let the team down and the programmes are only three minutes

0:25:42 > 0:25:46and four minutes, so being in pain just for that long and to be

0:25:46 > 0:25:50able to be at something so amazing, it's definitely worth the pain.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55But coach Esther is the one who'll get the final say.

0:25:55 > 0:25:58Obviously, we could never let anyone skate in the programme

0:25:58 > 0:25:59if they were seriously injured.

0:25:59 > 0:26:01It's really important that they're fit enough

0:26:01 > 0:26:03to skate in the programme, and if they're not,

0:26:03 > 0:26:06then we would have to consider putting a reserve in.

0:26:07 > 0:26:10Whilst Emily is hoping her shoulder recovers,

0:26:10 > 0:26:13some of the younger Icicles are having some downtime.

0:26:13 > 0:26:17I'm having a birthday sleepover tonight with ten of my closest

0:26:17 > 0:26:19skating friends.

0:26:19 > 0:26:22Outside of the rink, we do meet quite often.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24Like, we spend most of our lives together.

0:26:25 > 0:26:29Tonight, we're just going to, like, chill out before Worlds,

0:26:29 > 0:26:32because it's going to be really busy and hectic

0:26:32 > 0:26:36and we're going to watch some movies and just have fun and eat lots.

0:26:39 > 0:26:40Don't drop it!

0:26:40 > 0:26:42Esther's going to see this and be like,

0:26:42 > 0:26:45"Eating pizza, like, a week before Worlds?!"

0:26:46 > 0:26:49But Emily's injury isn't far from their thoughts.

0:26:49 > 0:26:52Has anybody heard anything from Emily about her shoulder?

0:26:52 > 0:26:56She said she was in a lot of pain yesterday.

0:26:56 > 0:26:59The doctor told her not to skate for couple of weeks as well.

0:26:59 > 0:27:01- Really?- But she has to.

0:27:01 > 0:27:04When she's going to get there, she's going pull it out the bag

0:27:04 > 0:27:07- and give it everything. - That's just dedication, though.

0:27:07 > 0:27:09She'll need to just rest it and then at World's,

0:27:09 > 0:27:12she can really bring it out, because if she keeps using it all the time,

0:27:12 > 0:27:13it's just going to make it worse.

0:27:13 > 0:27:16So do you think Emily is going to stay on and be captain next season

0:27:16 > 0:27:18or do you think she's going to leave?

0:27:18 > 0:27:19She might leave because of A-levels,

0:27:19 > 0:27:21but it would be really nice if she stayed.

0:27:21 > 0:27:25Yeah, I think she's a really good captain.

0:27:25 > 0:27:27Do you think if she left, any of you would want to be the captain?

0:27:27 > 0:27:33- No.- I'd make an awful captain. - Too immature.- Yeah, immature.

0:27:33 > 0:27:35The Icicles desperately hope their captain will be fit for

0:27:35 > 0:27:38the World Championships, but time is running out.

0:27:40 > 0:27:42Next time on Ice Stars...

0:27:45 > 0:27:49..The Icicles are off to the World Championships in Croatia,

0:27:49 > 0:27:51where Afton's in for a big surprise...

0:27:53 > 0:27:55I'm really happy.

0:27:56 > 0:28:00..Solomon tries to impress coach Tamara with his axel jumps...

0:28:01 > 0:28:05..and Assiyah is desperate to move up a level in synchro.

0:28:05 > 0:28:09It's mind-blowing because they're there, doing all of this stuff

0:28:09 > 0:28:13and everyone's there just, like, with their mouth open, like, wow!
