0:01:17 > 0:01:19It says, "Dear Jedward, in just 24 hours' time

0:01:22 > 0:01:25"a guided tour of the Imperial War Museum, Duxford.

0:01:25 > 0:01:27"You'll be telling them all about the Battle of Britain

0:01:30 > 0:01:32But what about the ducks?

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Edward, there are no ducks.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38This is a war museum, it has aeroplanes and like, boats and stuff.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Hey, look! Whoever gives the best tour

0:01:40 > 0:01:43will get to fly in a real World War II aeroplane.

0:01:43 > 0:01:44Awesome!

0:01:45 > 0:01:50But whoever loses will have to sit in a dark, dingy air-raid shelter

0:01:50 > 0:01:52with a stinky gas mask!

0:01:55 > 0:01:58- Edward, I think we're going to need some help.- Hey, look!

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Who's that over there?

0:02:00 > 0:02:04Edward, look! It's Naveed Choudhry and Katie McGlynn from Waterloo Road.

0:02:04 > 0:02:08Welcome to Jedward's Big Adventure, guys. You guys excited?

0:02:08 > 0:02:09Wheeey! Very excited.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12- So what do you guys know about ducks?- Not a lot.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14I told you, there aren't any ducks.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18What do you guys know about World War II and the Battle of Britain?

0:02:18 > 0:02:21- Not a lot.- Edward, I think we need an expert. What do you think?

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Yeah. You guys relax while we get the facts.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26Come on, let's see what the experts say, Edward.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Yes, there's no ducking out of this challenge.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31It's time to get quacking and no more duck jokes.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34Tomorrow, John and Edward will be leading a group of tourists

0:02:34 > 0:02:39round Duxford, a place they know absolutely nothing about.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43John will be helped by Naveed while Edward will be with Katie.

0:02:43 > 0:02:44Each will be given three stories

0:02:44 > 0:02:47which the tourists will be tested on.

0:02:47 > 0:02:49Look at the plane, John!

0:02:49 > 0:02:51It's time for the boys to meet their expert for the day.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53He's a man who knows all about Britain's fight

0:02:53 > 0:02:59against Nazi Germany in World War II, which lasted from 1939 to 1945.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04He's Carl Warner - hello, Carl - and Carl's going to start with

0:03:04 > 0:03:08the Battle of Britain in 1940 and the planes that fought in it.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12- What is this? - This is a replica of a Spitfire.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14- What's a replica?- It means a copy.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16- He's a replica of me. - By how many seconds?

0:03:16 > 0:03:17By ten seconds.

0:03:17 > 0:03:21The RAF had two main fighter aeroplanes in the Battle of Britain,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23the Spitfire and the Hurricane.

0:03:23 > 0:03:24Spitfire and Hurricane.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30In 1940 with France defeated and much of Europe under Nazi control,

0:03:30 > 0:03:31Britain stood alone.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34The German leader, Adolf Hitler, now wanted to invade the UK.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36To do that he needed to take control of the skies

0:03:36 > 0:03:38and that meant destroying the RAF -

0:03:38 > 0:03:41one of the greatest air battles in history was about to begin.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44In desperate dogfights over the skies of southern England,

0:03:44 > 0:03:46the Spitfires and Hurricanes of the smaller RAF

0:03:46 > 0:03:50took on the might of the massive German Air Force, the Luftwaffe.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53The Spitfire became a symbol for the incredible bravery

0:03:53 > 0:03:56of the few young pilots who won the Battle of Britain

0:03:56 > 0:03:57and stopped Hitler from invading.

0:03:59 > 0:04:01(John.)

0:04:01 > 0:04:04- How fast does this aeroplane go, really fast?- Pretty fast, yeah.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06One of the things that a fighter needs is speed.

0:04:06 > 0:04:10- So this is like a sports car in aeroplane terms?- That's right, yeah.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13Why's it called a Spitfire? Does it spit fire?

0:04:13 > 0:04:16Effectively it does because it's got four machine guns in that wing

0:04:16 > 0:04:17and four in that wing.

0:04:17 > 0:04:21- Does it actually fire everywhere, like, phooosh?!- That's so dangerous!

0:04:21 > 0:04:24It was dangerous and if you imagine the bravery it would take

0:04:24 > 0:04:27to get inside one of these, fly off with your squadron

0:04:27 > 0:04:30and quite often these young men were shot down, they were killed.

0:04:30 > 0:04:32- These guys were so brave. - They're total heroes.

0:04:32 > 0:04:34Think of the responsibility they had,

0:04:34 > 0:04:36they did it for their country and they totally rocked it!

0:04:36 > 0:04:37That's right.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41If they hadn't been so brave then we'd all be speaking, like, German.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44I'd be like, "Hello, Guten Tag, we sie Jedward."

0:04:44 > 0:04:47- And they were about your age as well.- They were our age?

0:04:47 > 0:04:52- We're 20 years old.- Yeah. - For that, like, age.- Could you do it?

0:04:52 > 0:04:55We couldn't even drive a car!

0:04:55 > 0:04:58Wow, that story certainly hit home with the boys.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02- Time for the next stop on their tour.- Carl, what is this?

0:05:02 > 0:05:06- This is an air-raid shelter.- An air-raid shelter. And what's that?

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Well, this is a mocked-up version of something that was in

0:05:09 > 0:05:13hundreds of thousands of people's gardens in the Second World War.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18The Luftwaffe bombed British cities night after night for nine months.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20This was called the Blitz

0:05:20 > 0:05:24and it was designed to break British spirits and make them surrender.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27Wailing sirens were the warning that German bombers were on their way

0:05:27 > 0:05:30and people would rush to air-raid shelters with their gas masks.

0:05:31 > 0:05:33Around 43,000 people died during the Blitz

0:05:33 > 0:05:36and hundreds of thousands of homes were destroyed.

0:05:38 > 0:05:43So, Carl, this is kind of like having your own hideout/den, wasn't it?

0:05:43 > 0:05:45It was, it was a bit more serious than that.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48People depended for their lives on structures like this.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50The important thing to remember is that you didn't know

0:05:50 > 0:05:53when you got out whether your house would still be there.

0:05:53 > 0:05:55So it was really scary and it was really uncertain

0:05:55 > 0:05:58- and people didn't know what to expect.- What are those masks?

0:05:58 > 0:06:00- Can we try those masks on? Pass one. - Well, these...

0:06:00 > 0:06:02They're like Darth Vader masks.

0:06:02 > 0:06:06These are gas masks. Everybody in the UK had to carry...

0:06:06 > 0:06:08It will ruin my hair!

0:06:08 > 0:06:10It will probably damage your hair(!)

0:06:10 > 0:06:13So every person in the UK had masks? Yeah, even babies had them.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16Babies had them where they were huge masks that babies had to fit inside.

0:06:18 > 0:06:22- It's not a Darth Vader mask, take it off.- Hair's still good.

0:06:22 > 0:06:27- Carl, OK, how long have you been learning history for?- Many years.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30Do you think we'll be able to learn all this information in a day?

0:06:30 > 0:06:32I think you're going to be great.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35Who d'you think'll be better tomorrow with the tourists - me or Edward?

0:06:35 > 0:06:37I couldn't possibly say. I've got my suspicions.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39Just say Edward.

0:06:39 > 0:06:41I think someone called Grimes is going to win.

0:06:41 > 0:06:44So how's your seat on the fence, Carl? Comfy is it?

0:06:44 > 0:06:47Oh, well, Katie and Naveed have no such doubts.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49They're rooting firmly for their OWN teams.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52- I must say, I'm pretty confident. - You're joking?

0:06:52 > 0:06:54- This is Jedward we're talking about. - Oh, yeah.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57- No, but I think I've got the cleverest one.- Do you?- Yeah.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00- No, I think Edward's all right, you know.- We're going to win.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02I don't want to be in the dark, dingy shelter.

0:07:02 > 0:07:05Ooh, well, close your eyes and get used to it

0:07:05 > 0:07:07cos that's where you're heading!

0:07:07 > 0:07:09Eh, I don't think so, mate!

0:07:09 > 0:07:10Well, time will tell.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13Whilst Naveed and Katie are getting competitive, John and Edward

0:07:13 > 0:07:17continue their fact-finding tour of the museum with Carl.

0:07:17 > 0:07:19OK, boys, this is the operations room.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21This is where it really happened?

0:07:21 > 0:07:23That's right, this is where all Duxford's fighters

0:07:23 > 0:07:27- were directed into combat. - This place is so cool!

0:07:27 > 0:07:29I feel like I'm actually back in World War II.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32Well, that's the effect we're going for.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36With lots of men involved in fighting overseas,

0:07:36 > 0:07:38millions of women helped with the war effort

0:07:38 > 0:07:40in places like the operations room.

0:07:40 > 0:07:41This was similar to an early computer

0:07:41 > 0:07:43or air-traffic control centre

0:07:43 > 0:07:45which tracked where the German Air Force was heading with their bombs

0:07:45 > 0:07:49so that the Spitfires and Hurricanes could fly off to attack them.

0:07:49 > 0:07:52Ops rooms right across the UK would order their squadrons

0:07:52 > 0:07:54to scramble and all the pilots would stop what they were doing

0:07:54 > 0:07:56and rush to their aircraft.

0:07:57 > 0:07:59The most important thing was information

0:07:59 > 0:08:01coming in from radar stations.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04So all that information comes in right here and gets processed

0:08:04 > 0:08:06and pushed out again.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09So how does it feel that the air we're breathing right now,

0:08:09 > 0:08:13this is where it all went down and we're standing where it happened?

0:08:13 > 0:08:16It was in rooms like this that the defence of this country

0:08:16 > 0:08:18was planned and carried out.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21It's halfway through their day of finding out about World War II

0:08:21 > 0:08:23and the boys have the Battle of Britain,

0:08:23 > 0:08:25the Blitz and the ops room covered.

0:08:25 > 0:08:27But how much of that will they remember?

0:08:27 > 0:08:31No time for swotting, Carl has more to show them.

0:08:31 > 0:08:36All right, Carl, we're here at this ginormous aeroplane. What is this?

0:08:36 > 0:08:41- This is a B-17 Flying Fortress. - A B-17 Flying Fortress?- Mm-hm.

0:08:41 > 0:08:44So this is an American aircraft that was used in the Second World War

0:08:44 > 0:08:45and it's a bomber.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48It wasn't just the British fighting the Luftwaffe -

0:08:48 > 0:08:51pilots from countries such as Poland, Czechoslovakia,

0:08:51 > 0:08:54Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand

0:08:54 > 0:08:55and they all fought with the RAF

0:08:55 > 0:08:58and by 1942 the Americans had arrived in the UK

0:08:58 > 0:09:00with their bombers such as the Flying Fortress

0:09:00 > 0:09:01to help fight the Nazis.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05This was great for British children as the Americans brought sweets,

0:09:05 > 0:09:09chocolate and chewing gum which were very difficult to get

0:09:09 > 0:09:10- in rationed Britain.- Cool!

0:09:10 > 0:09:12This particular aircraft is called Sally B.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14Lots of the American planes had names.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17It still flies today and it flies in memory of the thousands

0:09:17 > 0:09:21of American airmen who very tragically were killed over Germany.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24- What's its official title again? - It's a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress.

0:09:24 > 0:09:30A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and its nickname is Sally B?

0:09:30 > 0:09:33See that? I already know my facts and we haven't even started the tour.

0:09:33 > 0:09:37- Carl, you're so cool!- Imagine if you've never seen an American before

0:09:37 > 0:09:39except in the movies and all of a sudden they're here.

0:09:39 > 0:09:43(AMERICAN ACCENT) Hey, y'all, want some French fries? Want a burger?

0:09:43 > 0:09:45Hey, y'all. Yeah, I want a dollar.

0:09:45 > 0:09:48So what did the Americans do to have...fun?!

0:09:48 > 0:09:51They brought over a completely different culture in many respects.

0:09:51 > 0:09:52- The Jitterbug, for example. - What's that?

0:09:52 > 0:09:55It was a type of dance and it became really popular all over the world

0:09:55 > 0:09:57cos Americans were bringing it...

0:09:57 > 0:10:01What type of dance is it? How does it go? Does it go like this? Like this?

0:10:01 > 0:10:03It's kind of like a ballroom dance, it's quite energetic

0:10:03 > 0:10:06but I think you ought to find out for yourselves.

0:10:06 > 0:10:09OK, we'll find out what it is and we'll show all the tourists tomorrow.

0:10:09 > 0:10:10Mm, lucky tourists(!)

0:10:12 > 0:10:14Clearly the boys are enjoying their tour of Duxford

0:10:14 > 0:10:17more than Carl is enjoying their impressions anyway.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20We are getting ready for takeoff. The aeroplane is now taking off,

0:10:20 > 0:10:23we hope you enjoy your flight with Jed Airways.

0:10:23 > 0:10:25Jed aeroplane's flying.

0:10:25 > 0:10:27Oh, no, it's crashed!

0:10:27 > 0:10:30Next, Carl has another plane to show them.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33No, it's not one of those, it's one of these, a Lancaster bomber.

0:10:33 > 0:10:36- Do you have to be really important to have your own plane?- Pretty much.

0:10:36 > 0:10:39- How can we get our own plane? - You could buy one?- Is it expensive?

0:10:39 > 0:10:41- Yeah.- How much would this cost? - More than I earn.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44When you start working for us I'll give you loads of money!

0:10:44 > 0:10:47OK, so, we're going to have a look now at what the Lancaster carried,

0:10:47 > 0:10:49it's called a bouncing bomb.

0:10:50 > 0:10:54Lancasters are most famous for the Dambusters raid in 1943.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57The Allies worked out that it would really hit Germany hard

0:10:57 > 0:10:59if they destroyed some of the dams

0:10:59 > 0:11:01that supplied all of the power to the factories.

0:11:01 > 0:11:05But bombing a dam is very difficult and they were very well protected.

0:11:05 > 0:11:08Dr Barnes Wallis came up with a genius idea.

0:11:08 > 0:11:10First, testing his theory in the back garden

0:11:10 > 0:11:12using his daughter's marbles,

0:11:12 > 0:11:15Dr Wallis invented a bomb that could bounce on water before sinking

0:11:15 > 0:11:17and exploding at the bottom of the dam.

0:11:20 > 0:11:23Whoa! Some awesome facts, Edward!

0:11:23 > 0:11:25The squadron that carried it out - number 617 Squadron -

0:11:25 > 0:11:29they were known as the Dambusters, for obvious reasons.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Carl, is there any chance that me and John could fly one of these?

0:11:31 > 0:11:33You might have to wear a helmet

0:11:33 > 0:11:36which might do some irreparable damage to your hair.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39We have really good vision, we're able to do this in the dark!

0:11:39 > 0:11:40OK, well, that's good enough.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42Carl, we're going to teach you something.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45John's the plane and I'm the bomb, OK? Go, John!

0:11:45 > 0:11:47THEY MAKE AEROPLANE NOISES

0:11:49 > 0:11:51- Drop the bomb!- Pow!

0:11:51 > 0:11:52Bounce to Carl.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54Pow! Pow! Boom!

0:11:54 > 0:11:58Dear, oh dear! That's why Carl's the expert, boys, and not you!

0:11:58 > 0:12:01Left, right, quick march into our final story!

0:12:03 > 0:12:04Carl, what is this stuff?

0:12:04 > 0:12:06They want me to tell you about an organisation

0:12:06 > 0:12:09called the Special Operations Executive, SOE for short.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12In 1940, the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill,

0:12:12 > 0:12:14started the Special Operations Executive.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17Men and women were trained to become spies,

0:12:17 > 0:12:19learning how to kill with their bare hands,

0:12:19 > 0:12:22parachute out of aeroplanes and to disguise themselves.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24Exploding rats, canoes that went underwater

0:12:24 > 0:12:27and fake hollow trees to hide secret equipment

0:12:27 > 0:12:30were just some of the clever ideas thought up by undercover agents

0:12:30 > 0:12:32to strike the enemy anytime, anywhere.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36So you would have a fake object that to the untrained eye

0:12:36 > 0:12:39you'd just go, "Oh, that's a tree or a piece of wood

0:12:39 > 0:12:40"or a piece of fruit or something,"

0:12:40 > 0:12:42then within that you could conceal stuff.

0:12:42 > 0:12:46So anything from plastic explosives and things like that to radios

0:12:46 > 0:12:48and transmitters to compasses.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51- Back then, could we have hid stuff in our hair?- You could have done,

0:12:51 > 0:12:53but do you think the Germans might have spotted you and gone,

0:12:53 > 0:12:55"That's not a usual hairstyle?"

0:12:55 > 0:12:57They needed to be secret, they needed to be unobtrusive.

0:12:57 > 0:13:00- They needed to blend totally into the background.- Yep.

0:13:00 > 0:13:03I don't think your skills are blending into the background.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06The whole point of the SOE was to blend in and not get noticed

0:13:06 > 0:13:08- and keep undercover, keep under the radar.- That's it.

0:13:08 > 0:13:09Were they like James Bond?

0:13:09 > 0:13:12They were very much like that, but, of course, the tragedy is that

0:13:12 > 0:13:15when Special Operations Executive agents were caught,

0:13:15 > 0:13:18frequently they were executed because the punishment

0:13:18 > 0:13:21for being a spy behind enemy lines in lots of countries is death.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24That's what's so interesting about this place is that

0:13:24 > 0:13:26you've got the really cool aeroplanes and everything

0:13:26 > 0:13:28but what they were used for was really traumatic.

0:13:28 > 0:13:31That's exactly it, yeah.

0:13:31 > 0:13:33I think Carl taught us so much about World War II.

0:13:33 > 0:13:35I didn't know so much stuff about World War II,

0:13:35 > 0:13:37now I do and I'm ready to give an amazing tour tomorrow.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39I hope you took in as much stuff as I did.

0:13:39 > 0:13:43- Don't you realise that I'm really good at history?- No, you're not.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45- No, I'm good. - You're not going to be tomorrow.

0:13:45 > 0:13:48You may be good at history but you're not as good at World War II as me.

0:13:48 > 0:13:51- Are you excited, Edward? Are you scared?- I'm finishing my orange.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54How do you feel that I took more facts than you did?

0:13:54 > 0:13:57- You're going down!- We'll see!

0:13:57 > 0:14:00Back at the hotel the teams get busy preparing for tomorrow.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03Kate, OK, I know all the facts. I'm really smart.

0:14:03 > 0:14:06- Naveed, what are you doing?! - Shhh! Just listening.

0:14:06 > 0:14:08You're trying to listen to Katie and Edward?

0:14:08 > 0:14:10Yeah, they might have some good ideas.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13- D'you know any facts about it?- No. - I don't know, maybe it's like...

0:14:13 > 0:14:17- What can I tell you? I don't know what to say.- D'you want to win this?

0:14:17 > 0:14:19- What's going on there? - It's awfully quiet.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22- We're going to win this, come on! - We'll win this just for being cool.

0:14:22 > 0:14:25They're talking about how awesome I am and that I'll win.

0:14:25 > 0:14:27- Are they crying...? - They say they're going to win!

0:14:27 > 0:14:29They're not, what are they saying that for?

0:14:29 > 0:14:33Because the bomb shelter's really, really small and it's really dingy,

0:14:33 > 0:14:37I was thinking brightening it up by getting, like, a cool sing-song.

0:14:37 > 0:14:39Ooh, right, that's good.

0:14:39 > 0:14:40Focus, John. Focus.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43I'm totally focused, you're the one that needs to focus!

0:14:43 > 0:14:46- Hopefully things are more harmonious next door.- Three...

0:14:46 > 0:14:50# You are my sunshine, my only sunshine... #

0:14:50 > 0:14:51Or maybe not.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54# You make me happy > when skies are grey... #

0:14:54 > 0:14:56Hmm, I quite agree, Naveed.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58# You have no idea how much I love you

0:14:58 > 0:15:01# So don't take my sunshine away. #

0:15:01 > 0:15:04That's quite enough of that, thank you. Night-night, teams!

0:15:04 > 0:15:06- ALARM CLOCK RINGS - Morning!

0:15:06 > 0:15:097am at Duxford and the tourists are on their way.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11CHEERING

0:15:11 > 0:15:15Really excited because we'll be learning new things. I'm so excited!

0:15:15 > 0:15:18In the meantime, Katie and Naveed meet to talk tactics.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21- I've learned so much.- Oh, have you now?- Yeah. You know what?

0:15:21 > 0:15:24I listened last night and there wasn't much coming from your room.

0:15:24 > 0:15:25I don't think so.

0:15:25 > 0:15:28I'm pretty sure I heard you snoring while we were working really,

0:15:28 > 0:15:30really hard, making all our props and everything.

0:15:30 > 0:15:33Ours is actually going to be fun and not boring like a teacher.

0:15:33 > 0:15:37Those kids are going to learn because me and John are the perfect team.

0:15:37 > 0:15:40- Really?- Well, watch out, McGlynn.

0:15:40 > 0:15:41Yeah, good luck with that(!)

0:15:41 > 0:15:44What is for certain though is that our tourists have no idea

0:15:44 > 0:15:47what they are going to see nor who their tour guides are.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49Time to surprise some tourists.

0:15:50 > 0:15:53Watch out, tourists! It's Jedward!

0:15:53 > 0:15:55SCREAMING

0:15:58 > 0:16:01- Open the bus.- I had no clue it would be Jedward. It was amazing.

0:16:01 > 0:16:04When they just come through, it was brilliant!

0:16:04 > 0:16:06- Are you excited about the day? ALL:- Yeah!

0:16:06 > 0:16:09John'll be teaching you facts, I'll be teaching you facts

0:16:09 > 0:16:11and by the end of the day you guys will take a test.

0:16:11 > 0:16:12- You guys excited?- Yes, a test(!)

0:16:12 > 0:16:15I'm really not sure that I'll learn anything today.

0:16:15 > 0:16:17I'm going to be on one team and Ed's going to be on one team,

0:16:17 > 0:16:19so we're going to need extra help, OK.

0:16:19 > 0:16:24Make some noise for Naveed Choudhry and Katie McGlynn of Waterloo Road.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27- CHEERING NAVEED:- High-five!

0:16:27 > 0:16:28Amazing.

0:16:28 > 0:16:32Don't be so starstruck, OK, they'll give you autographs later, OK?

0:16:32 > 0:16:36Get over there and do this. Let's go, everyone run. Yes!

0:16:36 > 0:16:37We're, like, in a running race.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41It's time to start the tours and find out which team will be

0:16:41 > 0:16:45flying high and which team are heading for a bumpy landing.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48First up, it's John and Naveed. Nice outfit, John(!)

0:16:48 > 0:16:50- Are you scared?- No.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52- I'm not scared! - I've got the clever twin!

0:16:52 > 0:16:54- Who's that?- You.

0:16:54 > 0:16:56I know, I'm as clever... Yeah, oh, me, OK.

0:16:56 > 0:16:58- Are you confident with your facts? - Yeah, of course I am!

0:16:58 > 0:17:01I have total faith in you, you've got total faith in me.

0:17:01 > 0:17:06I'm John, you're Naveed, and together we are Javeed! Whoo! Yeah!

0:17:06 > 0:17:08Yeah, they're very confident

0:17:08 > 0:17:11but will they remember their facts from yesterday?

0:17:11 > 0:17:14I don't think Jedward know anything about the Battle of Britain.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17Naveed's going to tell you about the war, tell 'em, Naveed.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19In the 1940s Hitler had taken over France

0:17:19 > 0:17:21and now he wanted to do the same to Britain,

0:17:21 > 0:17:23but what he had to do was he had to take over the skies.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26The German Air Force was called the Luftwaffe

0:17:26 > 0:17:28and they had loads more planes than the RAF,

0:17:28 > 0:17:31but the RAF had the best pilots in the world,

0:17:31 > 0:17:33so in the end they overcome...

0:17:33 > 0:17:35With the help of the Spitfire and the Hurricane plane,

0:17:35 > 0:17:38they took over the Luftwaffe and won the Battle of Britain.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40- ALL:- Yeah!

0:17:40 > 0:17:45Guys, I've got a question to ask you, OK? Who wants to fly a Spitfire?

0:17:45 > 0:17:46- ALL:- Me!

0:17:46 > 0:17:48All right, let's do this. You ready for this?

0:17:48 > 0:17:51- What, like, really fly it?- Yeah, I'm flying this, I'm a professional.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54- I've got this, I'm a pilot. Let's do this.- Don't do this to me, mate!

0:17:54 > 0:17:57- Just got to twist to this. - I didn't sign up for this, John!

0:17:57 > 0:17:58I'm being serious, John!

0:17:58 > 0:18:01ENGINE STARTS TO PURR

0:18:01 > 0:18:04Here I go. I'm flying it. Yep, here we go.

0:18:04 > 0:18:07I'm flying it all over the place. CHILDREN LAUGH

0:18:07 > 0:18:09Whoo!

0:18:09 > 0:18:11I'm the best flyer ever!

0:18:11 > 0:18:14Yep, there I go. Amazing.

0:18:14 > 0:18:16I could fly Spitfires all day.

0:18:16 > 0:18:18You had me going there for a minute, John.

0:18:18 > 0:18:20Naveed, you were totally freaking out.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22You've got to always have faith in me, OK?

0:18:22 > 0:18:25- I would never put you in danger, ever.- Sir, yes, Sir!

0:18:25 > 0:18:28Pretty good attempt at the story of the Battle of Britain there, boys,

0:18:28 > 0:18:31but will it be enough to get you the points you need?

0:18:31 > 0:18:34Now for Katie and Edward on the Blitz, but where are they?

0:18:34 > 0:18:36Oh, yeah, there they are.

0:18:36 > 0:18:38- Do you know what the Blitz was? - ALL:- No.

0:18:38 > 0:18:41The Blitz in German means "lightning"

0:18:41 > 0:18:44and it was this whole event where the Germans bombed all of the UK

0:18:44 > 0:18:47and it was to dampen the spirits of all the people in the UK.

0:18:47 > 0:18:50If they saw bombs coming down, they got inside these and a siren

0:18:50 > 0:18:53would go off and it was a warning for everybody to get inside.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55Well, Edward's certainly packing the facts in

0:18:55 > 0:18:56but remember to breathe, Edward!

0:18:56 > 0:18:59Maybe when you were outside... When you got inside one day your house

0:18:59 > 0:19:02might be all rubble, so when you were in here you were totally safe.

0:19:02 > 0:19:03At last.

0:19:03 > 0:19:07They used to sing songs. These songs are from the time of the war.

0:19:07 > 0:19:09They weren't Jedward songs at the time cos Jedward

0:19:09 > 0:19:11weren't out at that time.

0:19:11 > 0:19:12Hit it!

0:19:14 > 0:19:16So, a medley of wartime songs.

0:19:18 > 0:19:20Oh, Edward's resorted to mime.

0:19:22 > 0:19:23This is going to be lovely(!)

0:19:25 > 0:19:28- In your own time. - We don't know the words to the song.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31Yeah, those will be the words in front of you, Edward(!)

0:19:31 > 0:19:37Oh, dear. Probably for the best. Let's see if this one is any better.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41# You are my sunshine

0:19:41 > 0:19:43# My only sunshine... #

0:19:43 > 0:19:44No.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46Naveed, what's going on down there?

0:19:46 > 0:19:48I don't know, it sounds like cats screaming.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50It sounds really bad, that's all I can say.

0:19:50 > 0:19:51Come on, Naveed, let's get out of here.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54That's not sunshine, that is rain.

0:19:54 > 0:19:58OK, ready for the big finish. Eyes and teeth, jazz hands at the ready!

0:19:58 > 0:19:59Cool.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02Next up, it's the bouncing bomb story.

0:20:02 > 0:20:06I am Sergeant John and this is soldier Naveed.

0:20:06 > 0:20:10We're going to demonstrate what the Lancaster bomber used to do.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13- What's it going to let out? ALL:- Bouncing Bomb.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16And who was it designed by? Barnes Wallis.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18In three, two, one... Go!

0:20:28 > 0:20:32I didn't really know that much about Lancaster bombers until now.

0:20:32 > 0:20:33Bombers, come on.

0:20:38 > 0:20:39They are quite good at accents,

0:20:39 > 0:20:42so they were kind of doing good German accents.

0:20:53 > 0:20:55Well done, pilots. Right on target.

0:20:55 > 0:20:58But will it help you remember the facts or will John and Naveed

0:20:58 > 0:21:01be crash-landing after you take the big test?

0:21:02 > 0:21:05For the next tour with the help of some experts,

0:21:05 > 0:21:07Edward and Katie have reconstructed a mock-up ops room.

0:21:07 > 0:21:10Let's see if they can explain what's going on.

0:21:10 > 0:21:13Everybody stop what they're doing, Edward has to talk.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16- PHONE RINGS - Will someone get that?

0:21:16 > 0:21:17Who's calling?

0:21:17 > 0:21:19That's the dispersal, they want to know if it's scramble.

0:21:19 > 0:21:22Oh, no. Things have not got off to a good start.

0:21:22 > 0:21:24- Edward is starting to look confused already.- OK.

0:21:24 > 0:21:27That's going to be 610 Squadron.

0:21:27 > 0:21:29You are probably wondering what these people are doing.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33This is Nigel and Jude, OK? They are working the operations room.

0:21:33 > 0:21:36- This is like a radar. - Actually, Edward, it's an ops table.

0:21:36 > 0:21:39- They got the information from telephone.- No, they didn't.

0:21:39 > 0:21:41And no matter what happened... I don't know what I'm doing!

0:21:41 > 0:21:43Yep, that's obvious!

0:21:43 > 0:21:46In the operations room, when you heard scramble, that means...

0:21:46 > 0:21:49We all have to stop what we're doing, run over there and then me and

0:21:49 > 0:21:52Edward both have to get these clothes on, you've got to help us, right?

0:21:52 > 0:21:55- Are you ready? Are you excited? ALL:- Yeah.

0:21:55 > 0:21:56Good.

0:21:56 > 0:21:58- Did you say something? - Immediate scramble?

0:21:58 > 0:22:02- Ready? Go!- Scramble!

0:22:02 > 0:22:04So, a pretty shambolic job of explaining the ops room

0:22:04 > 0:22:06to the tourists from Katie and Edward there.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10That could cost you points when they are tested later, guys!

0:22:18 > 0:22:21They're off! First into the pilot's gear and to the flag wins.

0:22:21 > 0:22:25It looks like it's going to be... It's Edward, he's done it!

0:22:25 > 0:22:28- The winner!- Oh, no!

0:22:28 > 0:22:32So, Edward can beat Katie but can they both beat Team Javeed

0:22:32 > 0:22:34or will they be sampling the comforts

0:22:34 > 0:22:36of that scary air-raid shelter?

0:22:36 > 0:22:39Ooooh!

0:22:39 > 0:22:43Next with story of wartime spies it's Choudhry, Naveed Choudhry,

0:22:43 > 0:22:47but will he remember what SOE stands for and who formed it?

0:22:47 > 0:22:51- Welcome to the Special Operations Executive.- Good start.

0:22:51 > 0:22:57Formed in July 1940 by the Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, himself.

0:22:57 > 0:23:02- Well done.- The SOE...- Shouldn't John be hearing this? Where is he?

0:23:02 > 0:23:07I can't see him anywhere! Maybe we should ask that guy with the paper.

0:23:09 > 0:23:10Excuse me?

0:23:11 > 0:23:14Whoa! What a brilliant disguise!

0:23:15 > 0:23:17Busted! Abort! Abort!

0:23:18 > 0:23:21Mission semi-accomplished.

0:23:21 > 0:23:25It's time for the last stop on the tour and pretty soon

0:23:25 > 0:23:29either John or Edward will be flying high in a World War II plane.

0:23:29 > 0:23:31To make sure it's Edward and not John in that plane,

0:23:31 > 0:23:35Edward and Katie need to remember the name of that American aircraft.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38- It's called Sally B and it's a B-17. - Very good.

0:23:38 > 0:23:41- What is it? - ALL:- B-17.

0:23:41 > 0:23:44And why is it called Sally B? I don't know, OK?

0:23:44 > 0:23:47Anyway, if I had a plane I'd call it Edward G. What would you call yours?

0:23:47 > 0:23:48Katie M.

0:23:48 > 0:23:50This is an American plane and it has guns,

0:23:50 > 0:23:52it has bombs underneath there.

0:23:52 > 0:23:55Not only were Britain, like, totally rocking it in the World War II

0:23:55 > 0:23:57but they also had allies of America

0:23:57 > 0:23:59so they came together to help each other.

0:23:59 > 0:24:02They introduced new things to the UK cos the Americans introduced

0:24:02 > 0:24:05really cool dance moves and it was called the Jitterbug.

0:24:05 > 0:24:07It wasn't about a bug, it was actually dance moves

0:24:07 > 0:24:10and we are going to demonstrate them to you.

0:24:11 > 0:24:15Seven! I know, wrong show, I've just always wanted to do that!

0:24:15 > 0:24:20That's it - left leg in, right leg out. Yep, well done.

0:24:20 > 0:24:21Yeah.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23Oh, they're all at it now!

0:24:23 > 0:24:26Well done, tourists, you've got the idea, that's it.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33Ha-ha, Edward and Katie bringing today's tour to an end

0:24:33 > 0:24:35in stylish fashion there.

0:24:35 > 0:24:36Nice moves, guys!

0:24:39 > 0:24:41But did they get enough facts across

0:24:41 > 0:24:43and how many will the tourists remember,

0:24:43 > 0:24:45or did Team Javeed do a better job?

0:24:45 > 0:24:47Lancaster... Bouncing bomb.
