0:00:24 > 0:00:26# Over the sea to Struay. #

0:00:33 > 0:00:37'My name is Katie Morag McColl and I live on the island of Struay.

0:00:37 > 0:00:41'I suppose it's quite wee but it's ginormous to me

0:00:41 > 0:00:43'and everyone looks out for me

0:00:43 > 0:00:46'when I'm out and about having my adventures.'

0:00:51 > 0:00:53She said... "Yeah!"

0:00:53 > 0:00:57Granma Mainland and Neilly Beag were getting married.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00And I couldn't remember ever being so excited.

0:01:00 > 0:01:03- Can I go tell Grannie Island? - Of course you can.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06The only person that didn't seem excited was Grannie Island.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09- Who says I'm going? - Why wouldn't you?

0:01:09 > 0:01:12I don't particularly like weddings.

0:01:12 > 0:01:16But I think she was just feeling down in the dumps.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20Grannie liked living on her own but all the talk about weddings

0:01:20 > 0:01:23must have got her thinking about Grandad Island.

0:01:23 > 0:01:28- You wore a crown?- A tiara.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Grandad brought it back for me from Paris.

0:01:32 > 0:01:38- Have you still got it? - Aye. Somewhere.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41He hadn't visited in ages.

0:01:41 > 0:01:44Grandad in his uniform.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47He's handsome.

0:01:47 > 0:01:52- Oh, look at the time.- And I could tell she was missing him a wee bit.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56So, I came up with one of my little plans.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00And on the morning of the wedding, Grandad arrived in the helicopter.

0:02:00 > 0:02:05I couldn't wait to see Grannie Island's face

0:02:05 > 0:02:07when she realised Grandad was here.

0:02:08 > 0:02:13Everything had worked out so perfectly.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15Or so I thought.

0:02:18 > 0:02:23Hello, Grandad. Grannie Island will be so pleased to see you.

0:02:23 > 0:02:27Let's get him something to eat first, eh?

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Aye, best not visit on an empty stomach.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33I couldn't see much difference a stomach could make

0:02:33 > 0:02:37but he must have been hungry because he didn't argue.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43His wellies were on the wrong feet!

0:02:43 > 0:02:46When Grandad went to eat his fourth sausage roll,

0:02:46 > 0:02:50I decided enough was enough.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54If he ate any more, he wouldn't fit into his trousers!

0:02:54 > 0:02:58Come on, Grandad. I've been waiting a very long time.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01All right, let's go!

0:03:02 > 0:03:05- Aftershave.- I don't think...

0:03:11 > 0:03:16It will make you all fresh and mysterious! Grannies love it.

0:03:16 > 0:03:21Thank you, OK! I think that's mysterious enough.

0:03:21 > 0:03:25Come on, then. Let's go.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Come on, Grandad.

0:03:32 > 0:03:37- How long has it been since you saw Grannie Island?- Oh, a long time.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41- Too long.- Why don't you come to Struay more often? She misses you.

0:03:41 > 0:03:45- She does?- She's got photos and everything.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50Well, I would like to come back more often, it's just...

0:03:50 > 0:03:54Your grandmother is a wonderful woman, Katie Morag,

0:03:54 > 0:03:56but she can be a little...

0:03:56 > 0:03:59Well, she likes to do things her own way.

0:03:59 > 0:04:04And if she can't do them her way, she would rather not do them at all.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08The trouble is, I am a little bit the same.

0:04:09 > 0:04:11Come on, then.

0:04:11 > 0:04:14I wasn't sure what he meant exactly.

0:04:14 > 0:04:19Grown-ups aren't always great at explaining things.

0:04:24 > 0:04:30(Stop! You wait here till I call you. Don't make a sound.

0:04:30 > 0:04:34(I don't want to spoil the surprise.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37(Are you sure this is a good idea?

0:04:37 > 0:04:40(Of course it is. Everyone loves surprises.)

0:04:49 > 0:04:52Come in!

0:04:57 > 0:05:01- Would you please tell me what this is all about?- Just a sec.

0:05:01 > 0:05:05Ready, steady, ta-dah!

0:05:05 > 0:05:07- Nils!- Hello, Belle.

0:05:08 > 0:05:12Well, this is a surprise.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14Go on, then. Give her a kiss!

0:05:18 > 0:05:21- What's that smell?- Aftershave.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24Same one Neilly Beag puts on.

0:05:25 > 0:05:26Lovely(!)

0:05:32 > 0:05:34Did you have a good flight?

0:05:34 > 0:05:37I did, thank you. Very smooth.

0:05:37 > 0:05:40This wasn't at all what I was expecting.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43It was as if they didn't even know each other.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47Maybe I was wrong about everyone liking surprises.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50Grannie Island didn't seem to like them at all.

0:05:50 > 0:05:57- Would you like more shortbread? - Thank you. It's very nice.

0:05:57 > 0:05:59That's kind of you to say so.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08Are you sure you don't want another bit of shortbread?

0:06:08 > 0:06:13- Oh, I best get going. Thanks for the tea.- It was a pleasure.

0:06:13 > 0:06:15I'll see you later.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23That was weird.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25What was weird about it?

0:06:25 > 0:06:28I don't know. It just was.

0:06:34 > 0:06:38- You don't like him or something? - Well, of course I like him.

0:06:38 > 0:06:43- He's a very fine man.- So why were you acting all funny then?

0:06:43 > 0:06:48- Was it the aftershave?- No. It wasn't the aftershave.

0:06:48 > 0:06:50Well, then?

0:06:50 > 0:06:53I haven't seen your grandad for quite a while.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57It was a bit of a shock, that's all.

0:06:57 > 0:07:01So, will you be OK at the wedding now the shock is all over?

0:07:01 > 0:07:05- I'm still not sure if I can make it.- Grannie!

0:07:05 > 0:07:08I've a mountain of things to do.

0:07:08 > 0:07:11It won't be the same without you.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Oh, Katie Morag!

0:07:15 > 0:07:20- Fine. If you won't go, I won't go. - Now, that's just silly.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24I've got lots of things to do as well.

0:07:24 > 0:07:31- Teddy's clothes need washed and my room is an absolute midden!- Fine.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33I'll do my best.

0:07:35 > 0:07:38But I've got to get these jobs done first.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43Why on earth was a Grannie acting so funny?

0:07:43 > 0:07:48Grandad coming was a good thing so why was she so grumpy?

0:07:48 > 0:07:53And why wouldn't she want to come to Granma Mainland's wedding?

0:07:53 > 0:07:57The ferry man's wife was making one of her fabbydoo chocolate cakes,

0:07:57 > 0:08:00why would anyone want to miss that?

0:08:00 > 0:08:03Sometimes grown-ups can be so peculiar.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06There's only one way to understand them

0:08:06 > 0:08:08and that's to ask another grown-up.

0:08:08 > 0:08:13Of course they like each other. They love each other.

0:08:13 > 0:08:18- Why don't they live together? - Well,

0:08:18 > 0:08:20it's complicated.

0:08:23 > 0:08:28Grandad Island likes to travel the world and Grannie Island doesn't.

0:08:28 > 0:08:32- East, West, who's best?- That's right.

0:08:32 > 0:08:37- So, he does his thing and she does hers.- Don't they miss each other?

0:08:37 > 0:08:40I'm sure they do sometimes.

0:08:40 > 0:08:43If they like each other and they miss each other,

0:08:43 > 0:08:47why doesn't Grannie Island seem happy to see him?

0:08:47 > 0:08:50Maybe she was a wee bit shy.

0:08:51 > 0:08:55I never thought of Grannie Island being so shy before.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58But I suppose it made sense.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01After all, when I haven't seen someone in ages,

0:09:01 > 0:09:04I can be a little shy as well.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06Thanks, Dad!

0:09:08 > 0:09:10Another satisfied customer.

0:09:16 > 0:09:20The wedding was absolutely brilliant.

0:09:20 > 0:09:23They got married on the beach.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26They both said yes in the very right place

0:09:26 > 0:09:31and Neilly Beag even remembered to bring the ring.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34And everyone was very happy.

0:09:41 > 0:09:47It now gives me great pleasure to pronounce you man and wife.

0:09:47 > 0:09:51And then they were well and truly married.

0:09:58 > 0:10:02And what made me even more happy was that Grannie Island was there

0:10:02 > 0:10:05and she even wore a dress.

0:10:09 > 0:10:13And afterwards, we had the party in the hall.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17There was music and dancing and singing and super yummy food.

0:10:17 > 0:10:22The ferry man's wife hadn't made one of her fabbydoo chocolate cakes.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24She had made three!

0:10:24 > 0:10:27Let's get together for Strip The Willow!

0:10:27 > 0:10:30APPLAUSE

0:10:30 > 0:10:34SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE MUSIC PLAYS

0:10:49 > 0:10:54The only one who wasn't enjoying herself was Grannie Island.

0:10:54 > 0:10:58She tried to hide it but I could tell.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01And that's when I had it.

0:11:01 > 0:11:05The best idea I've had in my whole entire life.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07I would have to be quick, though.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10This wasn't the kind of idea that would wait around for you to

0:11:10 > 0:11:12finish off a slice of cake.

0:11:12 > 0:11:17- Can I nip out for a bit? - Of course. Where are you going...?

0:11:50 > 0:11:56- I think you forgot something. - And what would that be?- This.

0:11:56 > 0:12:00- Where did you find that? - The same place you left it.

0:12:02 > 0:12:04I didn't think so.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06Katie Morag!

0:12:06 > 0:12:09Stand still, will you?!

0:12:09 > 0:12:11There.

0:12:11 > 0:12:15A lot of nonsense. I must look like an absolute...

0:12:15 > 0:12:17You look beautiful.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21May I have the honour?

0:12:26 > 0:12:27Just the one.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46And they danced like that for the rest of the night.

0:12:46 > 0:12:51In the end, my mum had to tell them the band wanted to go to their beds.

0:12:55 > 0:13:00The next day, Granma Mainland and Neilly Beag set off

0:13:00 > 0:13:03on their honeymoon in Neilly Beag's boat.

0:13:03 > 0:13:07And Grandad Island had to leave to go back to work.

0:13:07 > 0:13:12But he promised to come back and visit us more often from now on.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14And that made us all very happy.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19Listening to his adventures,

0:13:19 > 0:13:24I could see why Grandad Island loved to travel so much.

0:13:24 > 0:13:29I might even become a helicopter pilot myself when I'm bigger.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32But I can see why Grannie Island doesn't want to

0:13:32 > 0:13:38scoot around the world too because I know no matter where I visit,

0:13:38 > 0:13:42be it north or south or east or west,

0:13:42 > 0:13:45our little home of Struay will always be the best.

0:13:45 > 0:13:50Good night, Grannie Island. See you tomorrow.
