0:00:55 > 0:00:58'But you can't go shopping without getting dressed and you can't

0:00:58 > 0:01:01'get dressed without a nice pair of socks inside your wellies.'

0:01:05 > 0:01:10'But finding an actual pair can sometimes be a challenge.'

0:01:10 > 0:01:11Perfect.

0:01:19 > 0:01:22'Of course, socks aren't the only thing you need to go shopping.

0:01:22 > 0:01:27'You've got to have the money too. This was a very special occasion.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29'Grandmother's Day was coming up

0:01:29 > 0:01:32'and we wanted to get a present for Grannie Island.'

0:01:35 > 0:01:37'to her wee flat in Glasgow

0:01:37 > 0:01:41'so we already sent her the biggest, floweriest card we could make

0:01:41 > 0:01:45'but we wanted to get something nice for Grannie Island too.'

0:01:45 > 0:01:48You take the dinosaur and I'll take the piggy bank.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51So far, we had a grand total of 8p,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54that was a lot of money back when I was Liam's age.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58But these days it doesn't seem to buy much of anything at all.

0:01:58 > 0:02:038p and a feather. I really don't think we've got enough.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05There must be some more somewhere.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10- Are they coming? - I've called them twice.

0:02:10 > 0:02:12Well, they'll just have to wait their turn.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15(Morning.)

0:02:18 > 0:02:20Grannie Island says,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23"If you try hard enough you'll always find what you need.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26"And if you don't, you'll find something you didn't know

0:02:26 > 0:02:28"you needed but you're really glad you found."

0:02:30 > 0:02:33We found all kinds of things except money

0:02:33 > 0:02:35until we remembered the old magic set.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40Liam tried the disappearing coin trick and, guess what?

0:02:40 > 0:02:42A whole pound appeared.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46He wanted to try again but I said, "No," cos what if it all went wrong

0:02:46 > 0:02:48and it disappeared again forever?

0:02:48 > 0:02:49Fabby-do, Liam!

0:02:53 > 0:02:57One minute she was fine... It's so unlike her. Dear, yes.

0:02:57 > 0:02:59She wasn't her usual chatty self at all.

0:02:59 > 0:03:03Grown-ups really do pick the most inconvenient times

0:03:03 > 0:03:04to stand around chatting.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06- ..demanding attention.- Really?

0:03:07 > 0:03:11Well, I'm so glad she's all right...

0:03:11 > 0:03:12Cheery-bye!

0:03:12 > 0:03:17So we had £1.08, a feather and a dinosaur.

0:03:20 > 0:03:25- Sir, madam. - What can we get for all this?

0:03:25 > 0:03:28Well, why don't you start choosing and I'll stop you

0:03:28 > 0:03:29when the money's used up?

0:03:49 > 0:03:53Choosing presents is a much harder job than grown-ups realise.

0:03:53 > 0:03:56You have to make sure that you fit the present for the person.

0:03:56 > 0:04:00You can't just buy things that you would like to have yourself.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06You have to take the job seriously and never, ever rush it.

0:04:14 > 0:04:19Shall we have some strawberries, Liam? Erm, 12 strawberries, please.

0:04:25 > 0:04:29We'll have a bit of Nanny Goat's cheese as well.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59Grannie Island always wraps her presents nicely.

0:04:59 > 0:05:03She says that it's important to spend a wee bit of care and time on it.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08Perfect.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15- Bye.- Bye.- Bye.

0:05:15 > 0:05:19I forgot the toy I was taking to play with.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22Now, go straight to Grannie Island's, she's waiting for you.

0:05:28 > 0:05:29And Liam forgot his too.

0:05:31 > 0:05:34Honestly, we'd forget our heads if they weren't screwed on.

0:05:36 > 0:05:41Hello. It's me. Yes, they're on their way.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43Yes, right.

0:05:43 > 0:05:45OK, Peter, will do. Bye.

0:05:45 > 0:05:49That's it. Oh, dear. Come on, then.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51SHE CLICKS HER TONGUE

0:05:51 > 0:05:52Bye.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01SHE CLEARS HER THROAT

0:06:01 > 0:06:06- What?- That'll be 5p, please.

0:06:06 > 0:06:07You're kidding?

0:06:10 > 0:06:12You don't happen to...

0:06:17 > 0:06:20- I'll pay you back later. - I trust you.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31Oi!

0:06:36 > 0:06:40Liam only has little legs so he gets tired easily.

0:06:40 > 0:06:45That's why it's a good idea to have a little rest every now and again.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51Because when he gets tired, he gets grumpy and, believe me,

0:06:51 > 0:06:53you wouldn't want to see him grumpy.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12Oh. Liam...

0:07:13 > 0:07:16..you've eaten one of Grannie Island's snakes.

0:07:19 > 0:07:20Well...

0:07:21 > 0:07:27..we had three snakes to begin with and that was an odd number.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29Now we have two snakes and that's an even number.

0:07:31 > 0:07:35So, if we only have one snake, that's an odd number again.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39So I'll just have to eat one myself.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00Are you hungry?

0:08:00 > 0:08:05Do you think another little something will help us get there quicker?

0:08:05 > 0:08:06I think you're right.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25# Run, run through the grass as long

0:08:25 > 0:08:28# As fast as your legs can carry you

0:08:28 > 0:08:30# Run, run till the cows come home

0:08:30 > 0:08:33# So the prettiest girl gonna marry you. #

0:08:33 > 0:08:36SHE HUMS THE TUNE

0:08:43 > 0:08:44Do you want something to eat?

0:08:52 > 0:08:54SHE HUMS

0:08:55 > 0:08:59GRANNIE ISLAND LAUGHS

0:08:59 > 0:09:01Come on.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05- Oh, dear. - SHE LAUGHS

0:09:09 > 0:09:10KATIE SIGHS

0:09:28 > 0:09:29You know, Liam?

0:09:29 > 0:09:33I don't think Grannie Island will eat all this goat's cheese,

0:09:33 > 0:09:36it'll give her indigestible - tummy trouble.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17'And that's when I realised...'

0:10:17 > 0:10:20Oh, Liam, we've eaten all Grannie Island's presents.

0:10:20 > 0:10:25What are we going to give to her? '..just exactly what we had done.'

0:10:25 > 0:10:30We've nothing to give her now except the snake.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33We'll have to think of something.

0:10:33 > 0:10:36'We'd spent all that time choosing presents that Grannie Island

0:10:36 > 0:10:40'would like and then we ate them all up ourselves.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43'What on earth could we give her now?'

0:10:46 > 0:10:48'Eventually it came to us.

0:10:48 > 0:10:52'There really was only one thing we could do.'

0:10:55 > 0:11:02- Happy Grandmother's day!- Welcome, away in. Oh, what a lovely surprise.

0:11:02 > 0:11:06- We've brought you some presents, Grannie Island.- Oh, how wonderful.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16Let's see, now.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19Oh.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21What a smart tractor.

0:11:24 > 0:11:27And what's this?

0:11:27 > 0:11:29Oh, a lovely wee horse.

0:11:31 > 0:11:35- And a lovely worm.- A snake.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38Oh, of course it's a snake.

0:11:38 > 0:11:42I should have realised. And what else is in here?

0:11:42 > 0:11:45A wee candle.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48Oh, and a lovely flag. Oh, thank you.

0:11:50 > 0:11:52Mmm.

0:11:54 > 0:11:55Mmm!

0:11:55 > 0:11:58Hmm!

0:11:58 > 0:12:03Now, do you know what? That's enough for me.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06I can't eat very much of those, you know.

0:12:07 > 0:12:11Now, Liam, would you show me how that tractor goes?

0:12:13 > 0:12:17Oh, look at that. That's a grand tractor.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20Liam, do you think you would maybe look after it for me?

0:12:20 > 0:12:24Because I've got my own old Grey Lady to look after.

0:12:24 > 0:12:28Will you do that for me? Good boy.

0:12:28 > 0:12:32And, Katie Morag, that's a grand wee horse and it reminds me

0:12:32 > 0:12:35of something I've wanted to show you.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38But before any of that, let's have tea.

0:12:38 > 0:12:42- Porridgies, anyone? - No, thanks.- What?

0:12:42 > 0:12:44After that long walk are you not very hungry?

0:12:47 > 0:12:49I've got a bit of tummy trouble.

0:12:54 > 0:12:55Grannie Island told me that she

0:12:55 > 0:13:00wanted to get the shelter ready for a new animal coming to the croft.

0:13:00 > 0:13:04I wasn't sure what animal she meant but I did the best job I could.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06HORSE NEIGHS

0:13:07 > 0:13:11And that was the moment I met Eriskay, Grannie Ireland's new horse.

0:13:13 > 0:13:18And I knew we were going to be great friends for a long time to come.

0:13:24 > 0:13:29I was so excited about Eriskay that night, I didn't feel tired at all.

0:13:33 > 0:13:37I still felt terrible about eating Grannie Island's present

0:13:37 > 0:13:41but Grannie Island didn't seem to mind only having one sweetie.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44It was almost as if she knew what had happened.

0:13:46 > 0:13:47That's the thing about grannies,

0:13:47 > 0:13:50they really do know everything about everything.
