0:00:09 > 0:00:10Hey, Lifebabblers!

0:00:10 > 0:00:14Today we're talking about being happy with who you are.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17We'll be babbling about how we feel about ourselves,

0:00:17 > 0:00:19and what it means to have low self-esteem.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21So, what exactly is self-esteem?

0:00:25 > 0:00:27Basically, it's all about how you feel about yourself.

0:00:27 > 0:00:30Having self-esteem is accepting yourself,

0:00:30 > 0:00:33being happy with the person you are and being kind to yourself.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35Self-esteem is self belief.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Confidence and a sense of self-worth.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Being yourself.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41It also means accepting that sometimes we're going to mess up,

0:00:41 > 0:00:43and that's OK, because we all do it.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Low self-esteem can make it difficult to talk to people because

0:00:46 > 0:00:48you're nervous about expressing an opinion.

0:00:48 > 0:00:49I myself have experienced low self-esteem

0:00:49 > 0:00:53and it can make you feel sad all of a sudden, without any reason.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57We can all have doubts or worries about ourselves, that's normal.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59But when a person has low self-esteem

0:00:59 > 0:01:01they can feel bad about themselves a lot.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03And that can become a problem.

0:01:05 > 0:01:09Sometimes we can compare ourselves to other people.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12Or try and be someone we're not, or think that

0:01:12 > 0:01:16if we change ourselves they might like us more,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19or worry that being ourselves just isn't good enough.

0:01:19 > 0:01:21But do you know what?

0:01:21 > 0:01:24You are the only person you can be, and you're pretty awesome

0:01:24 > 0:01:25just the way you are.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31For some reason some people like to put labels on other people.

0:01:31 > 0:01:35They like to judge, or pick on them, just because of what they look like.

0:01:35 > 0:01:36Why do they do it?

0:01:36 > 0:01:39It's hard to say. Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43But, nobody deserves to be labelled or called names

0:01:43 > 0:01:47because, at the end of the day, we're all just people.

0:01:50 > 0:01:52Everyone deserves to be happy with who they are.

0:01:52 > 0:01:56Here are a few simple things that can really help.

0:01:56 > 0:02:01We can focus on the amazing things about ourselves, there's tons,

0:02:01 > 0:02:02if you just remember to look.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Stop comparing ourselves to other

0:02:04 > 0:02:06people, there's no point.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Tell our friends what we like about them,

0:02:08 > 0:02:12everyone can do with the confidence boost every now and then.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14PHONE RINGS

0:02:14 > 0:02:18When I meet someone for the first time I get quite nervous because

0:02:18 > 0:02:21I don't know what they expect of me, or what I should be like.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24That makes me feel a bit self-conscious.

0:02:25 > 0:02:29I struggle with self-esteem because I have spots and acne.

0:02:29 > 0:02:31I got them before everybody else.

0:02:31 > 0:02:33And it felt like I was the only one.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35But, now it's getting better

0:02:35 > 0:02:37and I've started to feel a lot more confident in myself.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43It's really important that we're able to feel happy

0:02:43 > 0:02:45and content on the inside.

0:02:45 > 0:02:47The trouble is we can get so hung up on how we look

0:02:47 > 0:02:50on the outside that we start to feel bad on the inside too.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55It's natural for us to all be different shapes

0:02:55 > 0:02:56and different sizes.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58It's the way we're meant to be.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01But, lots of what we see on TV, in magazines,

0:03:01 > 0:03:03and on the internet is based on one standard of beauty

0:03:03 > 0:03:07which, in reality, most people don't, and never will, look like.

0:03:07 > 0:03:10Often, we pay far more attention to the bits of ourselves

0:03:10 > 0:03:15we don't like, than the bits of ourselves we do like.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19But, here's the thing, there's no such thing as perfect.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Lots of the images we see of perfect looking people are fake anyway.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25They're made to look flawless, they're airbrushed.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27Even they don't look like that.

0:03:27 > 0:03:31- So, it's time to stop comparing. - Stop criticising.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34- Start loving who we are. - Imperfections and all.

0:03:37 > 0:03:38That's all for this Lifebabble.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41For more information about self-esteem

0:03:41 > 0:03:45and feeling happy check out the CBBC website.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49In the meantime, stay positive and keep babbling. See you next time.
