0:00:13 > 0:00:17We'll be babbling about the stuff that gets us down, how it feels

0:00:17 > 0:00:20when we're sad, and what we can do to make ourselves feel better.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26Everyone can feel sad sometimes.

0:00:26 > 0:00:30But different people can react in different ways.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32You might get tearful, or cry a lot,

0:00:32 > 0:00:37lose your temper quickly, want to stay away from other people,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40find it difficult to concentrate,

0:00:40 > 0:00:44feel like other people don't understand how you feel.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47There's no one way to react to feeling down.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54When people can't put small, little issues behind them.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57Life is so short, we should just try and all get along.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59When I see other people upset.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02Feeling left out, if I can't go to something that everyone else is.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05When I know someone is suffering, and that I can't help them.

0:01:05 > 0:01:06That really does get me down,

0:01:06 > 0:01:08it makes me sad just thinking about that right now.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12When I can't see my parents when I'm at school, because I'm working hard.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13That gets me down.

0:01:16 > 0:01:18We can all feel sad or down sometimes.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20That's normal.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22But you may have heard of the word "depression".

0:01:22 > 0:01:24When someone is depressed,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27they feel low or sad most or all of the time.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30It happens when the happy hormones in a person's brain

0:01:30 > 0:01:33are replaced by stress hormones.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35Depression is an illness.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38But it's not one that you can catch, like a cold.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40Sometimes, a person can get depressed

0:01:40 > 0:01:42because they're going through a tough time.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45And sometimes there's no clear reason at all.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48Depression is nobody's fault.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50And it's not something to be embarrassed about.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53There's a lot of help and support available.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56And talking to someone YOU trust is a great start.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39There are some simple things you can do to boost your happiness levels.

0:02:39 > 0:02:44Number one, get outside, get fit, and make sure you're eating well.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47Number two, keep a diary, to get out your bad feelings

0:02:47 > 0:02:50and remember that there are good ones too.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54Number three, listen to music, and do your own dance. Nobody's looking.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58And most importantly, talk to someone.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04When I feel down I like to read to escape my troubles.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08It takes me to another world, and makes me feel much better.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10I can forget what's going on.

0:03:10 > 0:03:12My best friend makes me laugh a lot.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16She will sometimes do a cartwheel and then fall on her bottom yelling,

0:03:16 > 0:03:20"Taa daa!" really loudly. It's the funniest thing ever.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25Hanging out with some of my best friends on a warm spring afternoon.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29It helps to write my feelings down, or to talk to someone that I trust.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31My sister is always a source of joy,

0:03:31 > 0:03:35she's always up for singing with me, so I always have a duet partner.
