0:00:09 > 0:00:10Hey, Lifebabblers.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Today we're going to be talking about feeling anxious.

0:00:13 > 0:00:15When worries build up in our heads.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17We'll be babbling about the way that we think.

0:00:17 > 0:00:21What happens when you get stressed out, and taking time to chill.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23So, what exactly is anxiety?

0:00:25 > 0:00:28It's normal to worry every now and again,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31but some people worry most, if not all of the time.

0:00:31 > 0:00:32This is anxiety.

0:00:32 > 0:00:36Anxiety can feel like thoughts going round and round in your head.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39You might find it hard to sleep or eat if your worries take over.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41You get tired of being worried all the time.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42You can feel panicked.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45Your heart might race and you might get sweaty hands.

0:00:45 > 0:00:46When you feel anxious,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49even little things can seem like really big problems.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Life is full of things that can stress us out.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57It might be that big test at school,

0:00:57 > 0:00:59or what other people think about you.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02Sometimes we worry about bigger things

0:01:02 > 0:01:03like what's going on in the news.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07And some people, they get worried about little things like

0:01:07 > 0:01:09if they've left something plugged in.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12Sometimes you might just worry about your friends and family.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14But why do we get stressed and anxious

0:01:14 > 0:01:17about all these different things?

0:01:19 > 0:01:22Anxiety is a completely normal and natural response

0:01:22 > 0:01:23to danger in our lives.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25It actually helps us deal with that danger.

0:01:25 > 0:01:26So back in the old days

0:01:26 > 0:01:29when we had to face that sabre-tooth tiger,

0:01:29 > 0:01:31we had to know whether to fight it or run away.

0:01:31 > 0:01:32And stress prepared us for that.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35Getting stressed out and anxious would help us run faster

0:01:35 > 0:01:37or fight the animal better.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40The problem is, today we get those same stress reactions

0:01:40 > 0:01:43when we're going to take an exam or talk in front of a class.

0:01:43 > 0:01:46So it's not the stress and anxiety that's the problem,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48it's how we deal with it that counts.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50TELEPHONE RINGS

0:01:50 > 0:01:53I used to get upset at little things,

0:01:53 > 0:01:55like putting school sheets in the wrong place,

0:01:55 > 0:01:58or if things weren't perfect.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Mum recognised this as anxiety.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02With help from my family and friends

0:02:02 > 0:02:04I've learned that it's OK

0:02:04 > 0:02:05to be worried.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07I've overcome it now.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09Well, mostly.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11It sometimes still happens.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14But I now know to keep calm and carry on.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19We might not be in control of everything that happens to us,

0:02:19 > 0:02:22but how we react is up to us.

0:02:22 > 0:02:23Imagine this.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25You're in the playground and you wave at a mate,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27and they totally blank you. Shocker.

0:02:27 > 0:02:29Do you - A) panic?

0:02:29 > 0:02:31You must have done something to upset them,

0:02:31 > 0:02:33although you have no idea what.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35B) worry?

0:02:35 > 0:02:38What if everyone decides to ignore you today?

0:02:38 > 0:02:40Have you turned invisible?

0:02:40 > 0:02:42Or - C) just chill?

0:02:42 > 0:02:44They probably just didn't see you.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46It's easy to jump to conclusions,

0:02:46 > 0:02:49but a lot of the time we worry a lot more than we actually need to.

0:02:51 > 0:02:53There are a few simple things that can help

0:02:53 > 0:02:55when you're feeling anxious.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Tidying your room may not be your favourite thing,

0:02:58 > 0:03:00but uncluttering the space around you

0:03:00 > 0:03:02can help you feel more in control.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Remember the basics.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06Get some exercise,

0:03:06 > 0:03:08eat good stuff, and sleep properly.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10It sounds obvious but it works.

0:03:10 > 0:03:15Sometimes anxiety isn't something you can handle on your own.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19So make sure you talk to somebody if your problems are taking over.

0:03:21 > 0:03:23Whenever I've to give a big presentation,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24I feel really, really anxious.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26When there's a lot of things going on around me,

0:03:26 > 0:03:28and I feel like I can't cope.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30One thing that I do is I focus on my breathing.

0:03:30 > 0:03:31I found taking deep breaths

0:03:31 > 0:03:35and slowly counting to 10 really helps me feel less anxious.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37That's all for this lifebabble.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40And there's loads more babbling about feeling anxious,

0:03:40 > 0:03:42and chilling out, over on the CBBC website.

0:03:42 > 0:03:46Remember, if you're feeling anxious or something's on your mind,

0:03:46 > 0:03:48it's always a good idea to talk to someone.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50We'll see you next time.
