0:00:07 > 0:00:08Hey, Lifebabblers.
0:00:08 > 0:00:11In this episode, we're going to be talking about the pressure to
0:00:11 > 0:00:13fit in at school.
0:00:13 > 0:00:17Sometimes it feels like everyone is trying to follow what is "cool",
0:00:17 > 0:00:20when, really, it's about being yourself.
0:00:20 > 0:00:23So, what do our Lifebabblers think about fitting in?
0:00:25 > 0:00:27Being confident in yourself.
0:00:27 > 0:00:29Yeah, not being afraid of being you.
0:00:29 > 0:00:32It's different for everyone. It's whatever you want it to be.
0:00:32 > 0:00:34Whether it's riding a rainbow bicycle to school,
0:00:34 > 0:00:36or reading comic books.
0:00:36 > 0:00:39Doing what you enjoy, regardless of what anyone else may think of you.
0:00:39 > 0:00:41You know what? Being you is pretty cool.
0:00:41 > 0:00:45You get to stand out, and not just seem like everybody else.
0:00:45 > 0:00:46Cool is unique. Cool is you.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52Trying too hard to fit in can be very hard work.
0:00:52 > 0:00:54Like, sometimes,
0:00:54 > 0:00:56it can make you do things that make you feel uncomfortable.
0:00:56 > 0:01:02Apparently, these trainers are in. They look pretty naff to me!
0:01:02 > 0:01:03Oh, well, if it makes me cool.
0:01:05 > 0:01:07Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!
0:01:07 > 0:01:10It can even make us do things that just don't make any sense.
0:01:10 > 0:01:13Should I buy the sensible one that I like?
0:01:13 > 0:01:19Or the fashionable, and ridiculously expensive, one other people like?
0:01:19 > 0:01:20Sensible one?
0:01:20 > 0:01:22Or fashionable?
0:01:22 > 0:01:23Fashionable!
0:01:26 > 0:01:28So just be yourself.
0:01:31 > 0:01:34While it's normal to try and fit in, when we start doing things
0:01:34 > 0:01:37we don't want to do, it can make us feel pretty mixed up.
0:01:37 > 0:01:38And that can bring us down.
0:01:38 > 0:01:41There are times when all of us feel isolated or alone.
0:01:41 > 0:01:43This IS normal.
0:01:43 > 0:01:45When we move into a new school, or a new place,
0:01:45 > 0:01:47it's perfectly normal to try and fit in.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49It can be tricky and confusing,
0:01:49 > 0:01:51and make you feel different form everyone else.
0:01:51 > 0:01:53Especially if friendship groups are forming around you.
0:01:53 > 0:01:57We all want to be part of a group, to feel like we belong somewhere.
0:01:57 > 0:01:58But this can lead us
0:01:58 > 0:02:01to voicing opinions that aren't necessarily ours.
0:02:01 > 0:02:04So try being yourself, and then you'll attract the friends
0:02:04 > 0:02:07who like you for who you are, not for who they expect you to be.
0:02:07 > 0:02:10Don't be afraid of staying true to what you believe.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14We all want to be liked, and fit in.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16But that's not always a good idea.
0:02:16 > 0:02:18Do, or wear, whatever you like.
0:02:18 > 0:02:20You'll be much happier in the long run,
0:02:20 > 0:02:21and people will respect you for it.
0:02:21 > 0:02:23Look for friends outside of school.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26School isn't the only place in the world to meet people.
0:02:26 > 0:02:29You could try joining clubs, or going to events.
0:02:29 > 0:02:32The wider your net, the more likely you are to meet someone great.
0:02:32 > 0:02:34Being positive will not only make you feel better,
0:02:34 > 0:02:36but it can help you make more friends.
0:02:36 > 0:02:39You might even find that you have more in common than you
0:02:39 > 0:02:40first realised.
0:02:40 > 0:02:42PHONE RINGS
0:02:42 > 0:02:46I don't see the point of trying to fit in with the crowd at school,
0:02:46 > 0:02:47or anywhere else,
0:02:47 > 0:02:51by changing the way you are for other people because it's
0:02:51 > 0:02:53just not being unique, and who you are.
0:02:53 > 0:02:56I think that if people don't accept the way you are, well,
0:02:56 > 0:03:00they aren't really worth having as friends.
0:03:02 > 0:03:04When it comes to fitting in, I stand out quite a lot.
0:03:04 > 0:03:08I mean, I have one hand, but I kind of like it now.
0:03:08 > 0:03:10I've decided to own the situation.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13You either let it get you down, or you use it to your advantage.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16I definitely tried changing my personality once or twice,
0:03:16 > 0:03:18just so I could fit in to new crowds,
0:03:18 > 0:03:20but I always felt kind of uncomfortable,
0:03:20 > 0:03:21because it really wasn't me.
0:03:21 > 0:03:24Luckily for me, I grew up in a place where a lot of the people
0:03:24 > 0:03:27are different, and everyone kind of accepts each other.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29I used to walk around the playground, eating my snack
0:03:29 > 0:03:31and singing to myself.
0:03:31 > 0:03:34However, this turned out pretty cool, because I joined
0:03:34 > 0:03:37the theatre group and I made lots of weird friends just like me.
0:03:39 > 0:03:42That's all we have time for today, Lifebabblers.
0:03:42 > 0:03:45If you want to find out any more about the issues in Lifebabble,
0:03:45 > 0:03:47make sure you check out the CBBC website.
0:03:47 > 0:03:49Until next time, keep on babbling.
