0:00:08 > 0:00:12Hey, lifebabblers, today we're talking about a feeling we all
0:00:12 > 0:00:17experience sometimes, but one which is usually not very nice - jealousy.
0:00:17 > 0:00:21So whether you feel a little pang every now and again
0:00:21 > 0:00:22or it's a big part of your life,
0:00:22 > 0:00:25the Lifebabble team can help you get to grips with jealousy.
0:00:27 > 0:00:29Do I ever get jealous?
0:00:29 > 0:00:31I guess so.
0:00:31 > 0:00:33- Yeah, sometimes.- Yeah, probably.
0:00:33 > 0:00:35Maybe a bit.
0:00:35 > 0:00:38It's that feeling of wanting something that someone else has.
0:00:38 > 0:00:41And it's not just about things. It's normal to check out other people...
0:00:41 > 0:00:45The way they look, their families, or even their qualities.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47..and wonder what it would be like to have what they have.
0:00:47 > 0:00:50Sometimes curiosity can build into negative feelings.
0:00:50 > 0:00:53And that's when jealousy becomes a problem.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58Just because we feel jealous of someone doesn't mean that
0:00:58 > 0:00:59we don't like them.
0:00:59 > 0:01:01Often it's the people that we're closest to,
0:01:01 > 0:01:03like a best mate or a sibling.
0:01:03 > 0:01:06But if we see the things that they have as a reason to be upset with
0:01:06 > 0:01:10them or feel bad about ourselves, that could be tough for everyone.
0:01:10 > 0:01:12PHONE RINGS
0:01:12 > 0:01:17So, my older brother is very into his music and he'll sometimes
0:01:17 > 0:01:21get, like, decks or new speakers or new headphones and then
0:01:21 > 0:01:24he'll use them in the room next door and I'll...
0:01:24 > 0:01:27I get so jealous hearing him having fun with his new things.
0:01:30 > 0:01:32I have definitely felt jealous growing up, as I'm sure
0:01:32 > 0:01:33a lot of people have.
0:01:33 > 0:01:35When I was growing up, my friend and her family had
0:01:35 > 0:01:39a lot more money than I did and she got so many cool things.
0:01:39 > 0:01:41Things that other people I know have that I don't.
0:01:41 > 0:01:44When my best friend started to hang out with some of her new
0:01:44 > 0:01:47friends, I got a little bit jealous and insecure because I was
0:01:47 > 0:01:48scared that she was going to forget about me.
0:01:48 > 0:01:50When we spent time together,
0:01:50 > 0:01:52I realised that I wasn't losing my best friend, because
0:01:52 > 0:01:55no matter how many other friends she had, she still made time for me.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57It can be really difficult,
0:01:57 > 0:02:00but try not to compare and be grateful for what you have.
0:02:03 > 0:02:05A little bit of jealousy is normal.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07If you feel it, don't beat yourself up about it.
0:02:07 > 0:02:09But when those feelings build up and change the way we treat
0:02:09 > 0:02:13someone for the worse, then it's time to do something about it.
0:02:13 > 0:02:15Instead of focusing your negative feelings on another person,
0:02:15 > 0:02:17turn them into a positive.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20Think about what you have that makes you happy.
0:02:20 > 0:02:23Recognise it, deal with it and move on.
0:02:23 > 0:02:26PHONE RINGS
0:02:26 > 0:02:29Jealousy is a weird feeling and it can make you do strange things,
0:02:29 > 0:02:32like have little fights with people.
0:02:32 > 0:02:36Boys in my year are jealous of each other's game consoles.
0:02:36 > 0:02:40It's good to try and get over it as it can push friendships apart.
0:02:43 > 0:02:46Being on the receiving end of jealousy can really hurt.
0:02:46 > 0:02:48If someone is jealous of you, they might ignore you,
0:02:48 > 0:02:51stop hanging around with you, try and put you down and make you feel
0:02:51 > 0:02:54bad, make fun of your achievements and make them seem stupid.
0:02:54 > 0:02:56If someone is jealous of you and it affects the way that
0:02:56 > 0:02:59they treat you, you don't have to put up with it.
0:02:59 > 0:03:01Talk to someone, tell them how you feel.
0:03:01 > 0:03:04You might be able to work it out, but if not, you should spend
0:03:04 > 0:03:08your time with people who appreciate and respect you for you.
0:03:10 > 0:03:13Sometimes I've used my jealousy to try to improve myself.
0:03:13 > 0:03:16Like, if I'm jealous of my team-mate because he's better at a sport
0:03:16 > 0:03:19than me, I'll use it to push myself harder in practice and make
0:03:19 > 0:03:20myself a better athlete.
0:03:20 > 0:03:23Block out the negativity and try to move ahead.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26I really like to draw, and sometimes when I see other people's drawings
0:03:26 > 0:03:27and they're much better than mine,
0:03:27 > 0:03:29I get a bit jealous of that, their ability,
0:03:29 > 0:03:32and I start questioning my abilities, but then I think,
0:03:32 > 0:03:36"Well, the only way I'm going to get to that level is to try."
0:03:36 > 0:03:38That's all for this Lifebabble.
