0:00:09 > 0:00:10Hey, Lifebabblers.

0:00:10 > 0:00:12Today we're talking about prejudice -

0:00:12 > 0:00:15judging someone negatively without really knowing them or

0:00:15 > 0:00:17because they're different to you.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22We're all different from each other, thank goodness!

0:00:22 > 0:00:24We all notice things about people.

0:00:24 > 0:00:25Notice what I'm wearing?

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Whether it's people you know, your friends, your family,

0:00:28 > 0:00:31your peers, or people you don't know, on TV, online,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33or when you're out and about,

0:00:33 > 0:00:36judging someone unfairly because of what they look or sound like,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38where they live,

0:00:38 > 0:00:39what they wear,

0:00:39 > 0:00:42or what they believe in, is prejudiced.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47Being Asian and looking different than most other kids growing up,

0:00:47 > 0:00:49I've had a lot of kids be prejudiced towards me and it made

0:00:49 > 0:00:53me feel bad for being different, like I was being excluded.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57As I'm young, many older people doubt my talents and capabilities.

0:00:57 > 0:00:59This really infuriates me.

0:00:59 > 0:01:02I have been treated as though I am incapable of completing

0:01:02 > 0:01:06certain tasks without even trying first, purely because I am a female.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09Because I'm transgender, when I was younger I experienced

0:01:09 > 0:01:13a lot of prejudice, but not only from kids - from adults as well.

0:01:13 > 0:01:17The main kind of prejudice I've experienced is racism,

0:01:17 > 0:01:19when someone just makes an assumption about me just

0:01:19 > 0:01:23because of the colour of my skin, and that can be really upsetting.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25PHONE RINGS

0:01:25 > 0:01:29I've always been a tomboy, and I wanted to join the Cubs

0:01:29 > 0:01:32because they did more outdoor things, which is what I liked.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Boys didn't accept me at first

0:01:34 > 0:01:37and thought I wouldn't be good enough to keep up with them.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40This made me determined to prove them wrong

0:01:40 > 0:01:42and I worked really hard.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Soon the boys realised I was capable of doing what they do,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48and they welcomed me as a part of their group.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50I firmly believe boys and girls are equal,

0:01:50 > 0:01:52and they can both do things well.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54PHONE BEEPS OFF

0:01:54 > 0:01:56There's nothing wrong with

0:01:56 > 0:01:57noticing differences,

0:01:57 > 0:01:59but when we make assumptions and

0:01:59 > 0:02:00treat people unfairly,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03that's prejudice and that's wrong.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05It's also easy to be prejudiced

0:02:05 > 0:02:06without even realising it.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09To exclude, or be mean to,

0:02:09 > 0:02:10or about someone,

0:02:10 > 0:02:12because of how they look,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14their gender, their beliefs,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16or because they don't think or act like you.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18If you you're being prejudiced

0:02:18 > 0:02:19towards someone, stop.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Think about your actions

0:02:21 > 0:02:23and apologise. Unfortunately,

0:02:23 > 0:02:26most of us will experience prejudice

0:02:26 > 0:02:28at some point in our lives.

0:02:28 > 0:02:29It can affect our confidence

0:02:29 > 0:02:30and make us unhappy.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32If this is happening to you,

0:02:32 > 0:02:34know that it's wrong.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36Talk to someone you trust for help.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40I learned to celebrate being different,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42and to be proud of being who I am.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45Sometimes you just have to educate them on your difference.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48For instance, I have one hand, so when people ask,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50I explain to them that I was born like it.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52Like they have blue eyes and I have brown eyes,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55they have two hands and I have one hand.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58When you're prejudiced towards someone, you need to understand

0:02:58 > 0:03:00that you don't know what they're like, and it order to

0:03:00 > 0:03:03know that you have to get to know them and you can't just

0:03:03 > 0:03:04assume things about them.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07Don't take part in prejudice and speak up against it.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11# Don't judge

0:03:11 > 0:03:13# Try encouraging instead

0:03:13 > 0:03:15# We don't know what goes on

0:03:15 > 0:03:17# In other people's heads

0:03:17 > 0:03:19# Cos ignoring is boring

0:03:19 > 0:03:21# Stand up to excluding

0:03:21 > 0:03:23# It's cooler including

0:03:25 > 0:03:28# Don't hold a grudge against

0:03:28 > 0:03:30# Someone you don't even know

0:03:30 > 0:03:31# Cos who knows?

0:03:31 > 0:03:33# A great friendship could grow

0:03:35 > 0:03:36# So don't judge. #

0:03:38 > 0:03:41Let's celebrate our differences and enjoy who we are.
