0:00:08 > 0:00:09Hey, Lifebabblers.
0:00:09 > 0:00:12So you've all heard the phrase "going green",
0:00:12 > 0:00:13but do you really know what it means
0:00:13 > 0:00:16and why it's important to look after our world?
0:00:18 > 0:00:21If we eat junk food, don't exercise and treat our bodies unkindly,
0:00:21 > 0:00:24we'd probably feel unhealthy, tired and pretty rubbish.
0:00:24 > 0:00:26The Earth is just like our bodies.
0:00:26 > 0:00:28To be healthy, it needs to be treated with kindness,
0:00:28 > 0:00:30consideration and respect.
0:00:30 > 0:00:32It's the only one we've got.
0:00:33 > 0:00:34We all have an impact
0:00:34 > 0:00:37on our world, from what we consume to what we waste.
0:00:37 > 0:00:40Water for showers, electricity for lights.
0:00:40 > 0:00:43Climate change is the change of weather patterns
0:00:43 > 0:00:44over a long period of time.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47The planet's climate has been constantly changing and the world
0:00:47 > 0:00:49is heating up quicker than ever.
0:00:49 > 0:00:52And that's not great. Human activity - that's us - is a factor.
0:00:52 > 0:00:55We're all adding to it by how we live and what we do.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58Take one person's impact over a day
0:00:58 > 0:01:00and then times that by...
0:01:00 > 0:01:02about seven billion.
0:01:02 > 0:01:05That's a lot of people, a lot of energy and waste,
0:01:05 > 0:01:07and a huge impact on our planet.
0:01:07 > 0:01:10Thinking about it like that can make us feel worried or scared.
0:01:10 > 0:01:13This is a big issue, but we can do positive things and feel better.
0:01:13 > 0:01:15PHONE RINGS
0:01:15 > 0:01:17It's not nice when people drop litter.
0:01:17 > 0:01:21It's not good for the animals like squirrels,
0:01:21 > 0:01:23ducks, dogs and horses.
0:01:23 > 0:01:26We should all try and keep the world tidy.
0:01:28 > 0:01:30Did you know that these can take hundreds of years to decompose?
0:01:30 > 0:01:32Plastic's not great at breaking down.
0:01:32 > 0:01:36So reusing bags, popping the right plastic in the right bins,
0:01:36 > 0:01:38is mega important and can cut pollution.
0:01:39 > 0:01:43Taking a shorter shower uses less water, and less energy.
0:01:43 > 0:01:45One thing I do to be more green
0:01:45 > 0:01:49is I either walk or cycle to work instead of getting a lift in a car.
0:01:49 > 0:01:51I love my jumpers but when I've outgrown them,
0:01:51 > 0:01:54like this one, the best thing for me to do
0:01:54 > 0:01:55is to pass it on to someone else.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57Switch off your telly
0:01:57 > 0:01:59and switch off your lights when you're not using them.
0:01:59 > 0:02:01It's not a nag and it makes sense.
0:02:03 > 0:02:04Climate change is happening
0:02:04 > 0:02:06and we really do have a responsibility
0:02:06 > 0:02:09to look after our world, not just for us humans -
0:02:09 > 0:02:11think about a world with few trees.
0:02:11 > 0:02:16It would not only be a pretty gloomy place, but where would birds nest?
0:02:16 > 0:02:17And what would happen with
0:02:17 > 0:02:21all the other species that live in trees and forests across the world?
0:02:21 > 0:02:23Of course this is a worldwide issue,
0:02:23 > 0:02:25which can feel overwhelming.
0:02:25 > 0:02:28If everyone in the world did one thing to help, like recycling
0:02:28 > 0:02:30a bottle so it could be used again,
0:02:30 > 0:02:32it would make a difference.
0:02:32 > 0:02:33So talk to your family and friends
0:02:33 > 0:02:35and see what you can do to be more green.
0:02:35 > 0:02:38Go on! Make a difference.
0:02:38 > 0:02:39PHONE RINGS
0:02:39 > 0:02:43I do beach cleaning with my school year and my family.
0:02:43 > 0:02:47It's a lot of fun but it's also quite hard work.
0:02:47 > 0:02:50We use litter pickers, which are quite cool,
0:02:50 > 0:02:52and we find lots of rubbish
0:02:52 > 0:02:54but mainly plastic,
0:02:54 > 0:02:57which would sit on the beach if we didn't pick them up.
0:02:57 > 0:03:01It's really good that people my age clean up the environment.
0:03:02 > 0:03:07# I like the trees, they make shade for you and me
0:03:07 > 0:03:12# A trip to the park is more fun when you don't sit on chewing gum
0:03:12 > 0:03:15# A trip to the beach is a treat
0:03:15 > 0:03:20# So let's treat it the way it deserves
0:03:20 > 0:03:24# Cos we have to conserve
0:03:24 > 0:03:28# this beautiful world
0:03:28 > 0:03:32# And if you don't know where to begin
0:03:32 > 0:03:37# Just put your rubbish in the bin. #
0:03:39 > 0:03:41That all we have time for today, Lifebabblers.
0:03:41 > 0:03:45If you want to find out more, head on over to the CBBC website.
