0:00:09 > 0:00:12Today we're talking about what it means, and how it feels,

0:00:12 > 0:00:15to live with an illness or condition.

0:00:15 > 0:00:17So let's hear from our Lifebabblers.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21There are lots of types of illnesses or conditions.

0:00:21 > 0:00:25Some can affect you physically, mentally, and some both.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28Some you can see and others you can't see.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30Sometimes they don't affect your daily life -

0:00:30 > 0:00:33and other times they impact what you can and can't do.

0:00:33 > 0:00:35You may recover really quickly,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37or it might take you a little bit longer.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39Some you live with your whole life.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41And some may shorten your life.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46It's normal for people to experience different emotions.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49You might feel angry and frustrated.

0:00:49 > 0:00:50Confused and overwhelmed.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Sad, worried and low.

0:00:53 > 0:00:54Helpless that there's nothing you can do.

0:00:54 > 0:00:57You might feel jealous of those who AREN'T ill.

0:00:57 > 0:01:01You might feel positive, hopeful - and not let it get to you.

0:01:01 > 0:01:04You might not feel any different. It's just who you are.

0:01:04 > 0:01:08There's no right or wrong way to feel. Everyone's different.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10PHONE RINGS

0:01:10 > 0:01:13My nana had breast cancer. When I first heard the news, I was upset.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16I made up a scenario in my mind,

0:01:16 > 0:01:18where there was a green blob of slime.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23It was fighting my nana, but my nana was winning.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26It was hard when my nana's hair fell out.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29But now it's grown back

0:01:29 > 0:01:30and it looks amazing.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35My mum has MS, or multiple sclerosis.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38She does get help and I help as much as possible too.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41Sometimes I make a cup of tea in the mornings,

0:01:41 > 0:01:44or I hold her hand to get up and down the stairs.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47I don't usually get that ill - touch wood - but when I do,

0:01:47 > 0:01:49it means that I need two or three days of just

0:01:49 > 0:01:53relaxing and resting and eating properly.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55I have a condition called hyperthyroidism.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57It's actually very common,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00but in the beginning, it was really difficult for me to deal with

0:02:00 > 0:02:03because I would cry all the time and I had no idea why.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05I did speak to someone and I went to the doctor.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07They really helped me to manage it.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10I've experienced anxiety and severe panic attacks

0:02:10 > 0:02:12from around the age of 14.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14For so many years I felt incredibly alone,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16because I didn't talk to anyone about it.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Please, always talk to someone.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23It's important to acknowledge, take control

0:02:23 > 0:02:25and talk about your feelings -

0:02:25 > 0:02:27whether it's with a friend, family member,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30doctor, or somebody else in the same situation.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32It's good to find out and ask questions.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36The more you know, the better prepared you are to adjust and cope,

0:02:36 > 0:02:38or to understand how somebody else is feeling.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40PHONE RINGS

0:02:40 > 0:02:43I have a condition that affects my diet

0:02:43 > 0:02:45and that means I can't have gluten.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49And if I have gluten, I swell up like a massive pufferfish.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52I make sure it doesn't affect my life too much,

0:02:52 > 0:02:56because you can make cakes and bread with gluten-free flour.

0:02:58 > 0:02:59Living with an illness or a condition

0:02:59 > 0:03:01should not be a label that defines anyone.

0:03:01 > 0:03:03Life is about so many other things too.
