0:00:16 > 0:00:19# When all is falling
0:00:20 > 0:00:23# Sometimes you gotta stay on the ground
0:00:24 > 0:00:32# The world could weigh the strongest person down
0:00:32 > 0:00:40# And I know one day you'll make your sweet return
0:00:40 > 0:00:47# Till then we'll wait with our hands holding out
0:00:47 > 0:00:57# So keep holding on
0:01:11 > 0:01:15# I heard you might be leaving
0:01:15 > 0:01:19# So for now it's farewell
0:01:19 > 0:01:22# But don't you ever stop believing
0:01:22 > 0:01:27# You could, you could have it all
0:01:27 > 0:01:31# I guess we go where the heart goes
0:01:31 > 0:01:34# It's a feel you've got to follow
0:01:34 > 0:01:37# It might be a long road
0:01:37 > 0:01:43# But you could, you could have it all
0:01:57 > 0:01:59# Can't stop the time
0:01:59 > 0:02:01# Still I'm gonna wait
0:02:01 > 0:02:02# Can't stop the time
0:02:02 > 0:02:04# Keep on anyway
0:02:04 > 0:02:06# Can't stop the time
0:02:06 > 0:02:08# Still I'm gonna wait
0:02:08 > 0:02:12# Can't stop the time at all
0:02:16 > 0:02:20# We don't where this is going
0:02:20 > 0:02:23# We're just looking for a sign
0:02:24 > 0:02:26# And the writing on the wall
0:02:26 > 0:02:29# Says we could
0:02:29 > 0:02:32# We could have it all
0:02:32 > 0:02:35# Like a rhyme without a reason
0:02:36 > 0:02:39# It feels good, it feels free
0:02:40 > 0:02:43# I just lie awake dreaming
0:02:43 > 0:02:45# We could
0:02:46 > 0:02:51# We could have it all. #
0:03:05 > 0:03:07Hey guys, so I hope you enjoyed my performance earlier,
0:03:07 > 0:03:11and now I'm back with you to have a Lesson in the Lounge.
0:03:11 > 0:03:14So what we're going to talk about today are dramatic pauses,
0:03:14 > 0:03:17and how they can really impact the song that you're singing.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20So the song that I sang for you was You Could Have It All,
0:03:20 > 0:03:23which is a very, very emotional song,
0:03:23 > 0:03:27and it talks about not believing in your dreams or having things
0:03:27 > 0:03:30that hold you back and overcoming them.
0:03:30 > 0:03:32So when I sang it I had to bring the emotion to it,
0:03:32 > 0:03:36and the best way to do that was to feel the song first.
0:03:36 > 0:03:41And the technique in the song is important but the emotion
0:03:41 > 0:03:43that you bring to it is what grabs people,
0:03:43 > 0:03:48and it's what makes people happy or sad or angry.
0:03:48 > 0:03:51It can make people feel anything, really.
0:03:51 > 0:03:53So if we're going to go into the song.
0:03:54 > 0:03:58If I sang it in time, this is probably what it would sound like.
0:03:59 > 0:04:02# When all is falling
0:04:02 > 0:04:06# Sometimes you gotta stay on the ground
0:04:07 > 0:04:14# The world could weigh the strongest person down
0:04:14 > 0:04:21# And I know one day you'll make your sweet return
0:04:21 > 0:04:26# Till then we'll wait with our hands holding out. #
0:04:27 > 0:04:32So technically it sounded OK, but maybe you didn't feel anything.
0:04:32 > 0:04:35I'll sing it the other way, with pauses.
0:04:37 > 0:04:40# When all is falling
0:04:40 > 0:04:44# Sometimes you gotta stay on the ground
0:04:45 > 0:04:52# The world could weigh the strongest person down
0:04:52 > 0:04:59# And I know one day you'll make your sweet return
0:05:00 > 0:05:06# Till then we'll wait with our hands holding out
0:05:08 > 0:05:15# So keep holding on. #
0:05:15 > 0:05:18So as you guys noticed, the second time,
0:05:18 > 0:05:20I actually felt something when I sang,
0:05:20 > 0:05:22and the reason was because I took time
0:05:22 > 0:05:25to hear the words and feel the words.
0:05:25 > 0:05:28And another thing that's important when you're singing solo
0:05:28 > 0:05:31is that you don't have to be technically advanced to change
0:05:31 > 0:05:33a room and to make people feel something.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36So simplicity sometimes is more,
0:05:36 > 0:05:42and it can affect people in ways that being technical can't always.
0:05:42 > 0:05:43That's my Lesson In The Lounge for you,
0:05:43 > 0:05:47and I hope you learned something.
