0:03:32 > 0:03:35Today we're going to be talking about finding our own voice.
0:03:35 > 0:03:37Everyone on the show has their own unique style,
0:03:37 > 0:03:39which I think is what kind of makes it so great.
0:03:39 > 0:03:42It's all about not just copying your idols or your inspirations
0:03:42 > 0:03:46as musicians, it's finding your own way of singing that works for you.
0:03:46 > 0:03:47And not pushing too hard.
0:03:47 > 0:03:49So you'll notice that our version of I Found My Voice
0:03:49 > 0:03:51is so different than Alex's.
0:03:51 > 0:03:55Ours was a lot slower and a lot quieter, but it was just as good.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58When I first started singing, I sang very breathy.
0:03:58 > 0:04:00I find that it was really hard on my voice.
0:04:00 > 0:04:02I had a close friend who was like,
0:04:02 > 0:04:05"Man, you should take some singing lessons."
0:04:05 > 0:04:07And I kind of took that at first as like,
0:04:07 > 0:04:08"Dude, people tell me I'm good."
0:04:08 > 0:04:11And, like... Yeah. And I was kind of offended at first,
0:04:11 > 0:04:13but then when I thought about it I was like,
0:04:13 > 0:04:15"Dude, you can always improve."
0:04:15 > 0:04:17So I took singing lessons and it really helped,
0:04:17 > 0:04:20and now I really just found my voice
0:04:20 > 0:04:22and I'm just that much more versatile -
0:04:22 > 0:04:24I can sing so many more styles
0:04:24 > 0:04:27and I can belt when I want to, I can sing breathy when I want to...
0:04:27 > 0:04:29And just know that you can always improve -
0:04:29 > 0:04:32no matter how awesome you are, you can always be "awesomer."
0:04:32 > 0:04:35I think for me, like, the way I found my voice
0:04:35 > 0:04:36was ever since I was really young
0:04:36 > 0:04:38I was always trained really classically.
0:04:38 > 0:04:41And when I started doing, like, private singing lessons
0:04:41 > 0:04:44I sang a lot more jazz and blues, and then when I got my guitar
0:04:44 > 0:04:46and I started writing my own songs I would write a lot more
0:04:46 > 0:04:48indie and folk stuff, and, like...
0:04:48 > 0:04:50All of those are such different genres
0:04:50 > 0:04:51and I think, it was so cool to just, like,
0:04:51 > 0:04:53pick exactly what I liked out of all of them
0:04:53 > 0:04:56and kind of make my own kind of genre, just, like...
0:04:56 > 0:04:59And that's really what it is - just find all the things you love
0:04:59 > 0:05:02about what your voice can do and all these different styles
0:05:02 > 0:05:03and just make it your own.
0:05:03 > 0:05:06Yeah. You just have to explore and figure out what works for you,
