0:00:44 > 0:00:47- Thank you, you're welcome(!) Thank you.- You're so annoying!

0:00:52 > 0:00:54We're in sunny, sports-mad Los Angeles.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58As usual, I've been cooking my heart out, doing my food blog

0:00:58 > 0:01:03and along with my folks, going sport crazy, just like the locals.

0:01:04 > 0:01:08The most popular sport in the US is American football.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11It's a bit confusing for us Brits, because what the Americans call

0:01:11 > 0:01:16football is like our rugby and what we call football is soccer for them.

0:01:16 > 0:01:17Get it?

0:01:17 > 0:01:20So the big question is, "What's the best sport in the world?"

0:01:23 > 0:01:25HORN HONKS

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Holly, Meg and Jack have gone to find out why

0:01:27 > 0:01:30the Americans love their football so much.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35These guys are good.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38The gang will be starving after their working-out with this lot,

0:01:38 > 0:01:42so I'm cooking up an all-American football feast.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46Sloppy Joes, what every American footie fan eats at a game,

0:01:46 > 0:01:49my touchdown dip 'n' chips and the most famous

0:01:49 > 0:01:52dessert in the whole of the United States, cherry pie.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00I'm kinda scared, I haven't done any training like this.

0:02:00 > 0:02:02I just can't wait to get started.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04I seen you guys up there watching us, did you like what you see?

0:02:04 > 0:02:06- You all want to try it out? - HESITANTLY:- Yeah.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08Well, let's get you all suited up.

0:02:08 > 0:02:10I feel like I've got all the gear and no ideas.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13- I just want to get going.- I'm a bit nervous to start, but I'm excited.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16I'm ready to go. I wish my trainers matched my top though.

0:02:16 > 0:02:21Come on, Megan! This is gridiron training, not catwalk modelling!

0:02:22 > 0:02:25Watch it, Jack! Whilst they're hanging out with the Blackhawks,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28I'm doing what I love best. Cooking.

0:02:28 > 0:02:32Starting with a pitch-side favourite, Sloppy Joes.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35It is a dish that everyone traditionally eats

0:02:35 > 0:02:38at American football matches. And the reason they all eat them?

0:02:38 > 0:02:40They're so good, but very sloppy.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46First things first. Chop half an onion.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49When you're using a sharp knife, make sure you concentrate

0:02:49 > 0:02:51and always be careful.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54Chop one green pepper and a couple of cloves of garlic.

0:02:54 > 0:02:56It's a lot easier if you squash them before you peel them

0:02:56 > 0:02:58and then the skin just falls off.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04Then chuck it all in a frying pan with a splash of oil.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06Oh! The onions cooking are making me cry.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10Some people cook their onions with swimming goggles on.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13It's quite a good idea, to be honest.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15Next, add minced beef.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18I'm going to add in a splash of wuss-tus-er sauce.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21I can't really say it. I think it's "Wuss-tus-er... sauce".

0:03:21 > 0:03:23'Hmm. I'll work on that.'

0:03:23 > 0:03:26And then about three quarters of this ketchup.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29This is where it gets really sloppy.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Simmer for 20-30 minutes.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35I will FaceTime the others and see how they're getting on.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39- Hi, Jack!- Can you see us all?

0:03:39 > 0:03:40Yeah, but you're upside down.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43OK, well, stand on your head! Just do something!

0:03:43 > 0:03:45All right, that's better.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48OK, well, I've got this waiting for you guys.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50ALL: Whoa!

0:03:50 > 0:03:51All right!

0:03:51 > 0:03:54- Well, we'll see you in a little bit, OK?- Bye!

0:03:54 > 0:03:55Wow, they seemed busy!

0:03:57 > 0:04:00- To the line, let's go, let's go!- Yeah!- Whoo!

0:04:01 > 0:04:04We've been introduced to such an amazing sport.

0:04:04 > 0:04:06How much does it actually mean to you, football?

0:04:06 > 0:04:09Well, football in America is the number one sport out here

0:04:09 > 0:04:12and it's the favourite pastime of all sports.

0:04:12 > 0:04:17The biggest game in American football is the Super Bowl.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20Last year, over 140 million people watched it.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22That's bananas!

0:04:22 > 0:04:24CHEERING

0:04:24 > 0:04:27- Nice one, Meg!- That's what I'm talking about! Look at that!

0:04:27 > 0:04:31- I caught the ball!- We might have to suit her up on Saturday night!

0:04:31 > 0:04:33One, two, three...

0:04:33 > 0:04:35They're not the only ones working hard.

0:04:35 > 0:04:38My sandwich filling's been simmering for half an hour.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41This is very sloppy. But definitely delicious.

0:04:41 > 0:04:43And it's going to be served in buns,

0:04:43 > 0:04:45so it's going to be very messy.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48Wow! Looking delicious.

0:04:48 > 0:04:50You're going to be able to see why they call it sloppy.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53When you bite it, it's all going to explode out.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55Time to get some photos to add on my blog.

0:04:57 > 0:05:01Check out my recipes and blog on the CBBC website.

0:05:04 > 0:05:06Holly, Meg and Jack are getting tired and sweaty

0:05:06 > 0:05:09at the American football. CHEERING

0:05:09 > 0:05:11How old were you when you started playing?

0:05:11 > 0:05:12I was six years old when I started playing.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14Wow! Six! That's pretty young.

0:05:14 > 0:05:15Yeah, growing up in the inner city,

0:05:15 > 0:05:18that was one of our great things to do so we could stay out of trouble.

0:05:18 > 0:05:22When you quite the troublemaker, the hyper one, like Jack?

0:05:22 > 0:05:25I think me and Jack was probably the same.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28- There you go, Jack. - CHEERING

0:05:28 > 0:05:30Go, Jack!

0:05:30 > 0:05:32Here comes a touchdown dance!

0:05:32 > 0:05:33Yay-ay-ay!

0:05:33 > 0:05:35Good job! Good job!

0:05:35 > 0:05:37One, two, three... Blackhawks!

0:05:40 > 0:05:44From one touchdown to another, these are my touchdown dip 'n' chips.

0:05:44 > 0:05:46It's a bit like healthy crisps.

0:05:46 > 0:05:49You can dump them in the dip or just scoff them.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52Either way, they're delicious. Touchdown!

0:05:54 > 0:05:56These are so simple to make.

0:05:56 > 0:06:01I'm going to start by taking all of the kale leaves off the stalk.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04So you just rip it off, it's really quite easy.

0:06:04 > 0:06:08Kale belongs to the same family as Brussels sprouts and cabbage.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13Wash and dry the cabbagey kale and add some olive oil.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16This olive oil helps them turn into crisps.

0:06:16 > 0:06:17A bit of salt and pepper.

0:06:17 > 0:06:19Spread your kale out

0:06:19 > 0:06:23and bung it in a hot oven for 30 minutes to get nice and crispy.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32Now the dip, one of mum's favourites!

0:06:32 > 0:06:34So, plain yoghurt.

0:06:36 > 0:06:37Wow, that came out fast!

0:06:37 > 0:06:40And then I'm going to add in the juice from a lemon.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42Now it's nice and squishy.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45To make sure you don't get any pips in your dressing,

0:06:45 > 0:06:46just squeeze the lemon upwards

0:06:46 > 0:06:49and then the pips rise to the top and you can just pick them out.

0:06:49 > 0:06:53A big handful of chopped parsley and a pinch of salt and pepper

0:06:53 > 0:06:55finishes off my yummy dip.

0:06:55 > 0:06:57Mmm, that's good.

0:06:59 > 0:07:03Wow, my chips look really good.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05Crunchy!

0:07:05 > 0:07:09They're very fragile, so you've got to be careful not to crush them.

0:07:09 > 0:07:14It looks great. I'll just get some pictures for my blog.

0:07:14 > 0:07:18This is going to look brilliant on my blog.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20They've played the sport,

0:07:20 > 0:07:25now my family are going to learn how to cheer for it American style.

0:07:25 > 0:07:27- Are you excited?- I cannot wait, honestly.

0:07:27 > 0:07:31I wish we'd got you one of those leotards.

0:07:32 > 0:07:33Whoa!

0:07:38 > 0:07:40Incredible.

0:07:43 > 0:07:47- Are you guys ready?! - I can't wait, that was amazing!

0:07:47 > 0:07:48We are the LA Dream All-Stars.

0:07:48 > 0:07:51We need to get you guys some hair and some bows.

0:07:51 > 0:07:53Looking good, girls.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56But where's yours, Jack?

0:07:56 > 0:07:58We're going to do an actual cheer right now.

0:07:58 > 0:08:02We're going to hit a right low B. So we want to squat nice and low...

0:08:02 > 0:08:04LAUGHTER

0:08:04 > 0:08:08Now we're going to switch it. 5,6,7,8, switch!

0:08:08 > 0:08:11Now, you don't... 7,8, hip!

0:08:11 > 0:08:14We're going to switch, 5, 6, 7, 8!

0:08:14 > 0:08:16Yeah, good!

0:08:16 > 0:08:20Now, for the grand finale of the high B, 5,6,7,8, chin up!

0:08:20 > 0:08:24So it's gonna go "L-A, let's go!"

0:08:24 > 0:08:26Clap, clap, clap.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29ALL: L-A, let's go!

0:08:29 > 0:08:32- You got it!- L-A, let's go!

0:08:32 > 0:08:36- And go!- L-A, let's go!- You got it!

0:08:36 > 0:08:39LA, let's go!

0:08:39 > 0:08:43- Last time! - LA, let's go!

0:08:43 > 0:08:45WHOOPING

0:08:47 > 0:08:51This is a great team spirit, and it just seems like, really fun.

0:08:51 > 0:08:53So you're going to take your inner foot,

0:08:53 > 0:08:55overlap it with your other base.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58Cheer's a great sport, you get to not only learn great skills,

0:08:58 > 0:09:02tumble, dance, but you also get to form a family with your team-mates.

0:09:02 > 0:09:03You've kind of got to learn just

0:09:03 > 0:09:06to not care what anyone thinks and just do it.

0:09:06 > 0:09:10And laugh at yourself, you can't yourself seriously when you do this.

0:09:11 > 0:09:15- Come back again, you guys! - ALL:- LA Dream, yeah!

0:09:15 > 0:09:19Give me an H, give me a U, give me an N...

0:09:19 > 0:09:21Yeah, well you get it, they'll be hungry!

0:09:21 > 0:09:24So I'd better crack on with my last dish.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27Cherry pies are so American, everyone here grows up on them.

0:09:27 > 0:09:31I can see why they love them. Trust me, they're amazing!

0:09:33 > 0:09:37The first thing I need to make for my cherry pie is the pastry.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40You need flour and chopped butter.

0:09:40 > 0:09:43I quite like doing this because it's fun and messy.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46Holly and Megan wouldn't like doing that because they're too woo-oo!

0:09:46 > 0:09:50Perfect. Now I'm just going to add in one egg...

0:09:51 > 0:09:55..and mix in some plain yoghurt. Whisk that up.

0:09:56 > 0:10:00So then I'm going to add this in... Mix it round...

0:10:00 > 0:10:02Add a tiny bit of water.

0:10:02 > 0:10:06This is really easy, you just mix it all together to make a pastry ball.

0:10:06 > 0:10:08Wrap it up.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12Into the fridge.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15It's time to make my cherry filling.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17Take the stones out of your cherries.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20This is quite messy.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24Then heat them in a pan.

0:10:24 > 0:10:28Add cornflour, sugar, and vanilla extract.

0:10:28 > 0:10:33And then you just turn off the heat and I'll leave that to cool down.

0:10:33 > 0:10:37- Tilly!- Hey, guys! Oh, wow! - How you doing?

0:10:37 > 0:10:41We're footballers and we're cheerleaders.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45- Let's see how good you are. - Tilly, we're better than that.

0:10:45 > 0:10:48'Watch it, bro! OK, my turn.'

0:10:48 > 0:10:53- Run that way and catch the ball while running. Go!- Oh!

0:10:53 > 0:10:55'Oh, that doesn't count!'

0:10:55 > 0:10:59- 3,2,1, go! Run!- Oooh! - LAUGHTER

0:10:59 > 0:11:01Ow!

0:11:01 > 0:11:04'He got me! I'm giving him a red card!

0:11:04 > 0:11:07'Back to the pie and my pastry.'

0:11:07 > 0:11:09This half is going to be for the base

0:11:09 > 0:11:12and this half is going to be for the top. Hi, Dad.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15- Tilly, flour the rolling pin so the pastry doesn't stick, please.- I did!

0:11:15 > 0:11:18Just lightly dust it.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22- Let me show you something. - 'Dad always has to butt in.'

0:11:22 > 0:11:24Now, that's too much flour.

0:11:24 > 0:11:26The best thing to do is scoop off that excess flour.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29Watch - then lightly dust. Too much flour...

0:11:29 > 0:11:33- Do you always have to take over?- It changes the texture of the pastry.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35Lift... Roll...

0:11:35 > 0:11:40- OK, that's good.- Let me just show you, please.- Dad, it's my pie!

0:11:40 > 0:11:44I know he's going to try and make it look really posh.

0:11:44 > 0:11:47I'll just show you one more little thing. Get your strips...

0:11:47 > 0:11:52And just twist them. You put that across the pie like that...

0:11:52 > 0:11:55Strips of pastry would look really fancy.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58Tilly, you don't have to do it that way,

0:11:58 > 0:12:01it's just another idea from your brilliant dad.

0:12:01 > 0:12:03I'd better finish my pastry,

0:12:03 > 0:12:06but I'm going to go with my decoration on the top, not his.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08I'm keeping it simple.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12So I'm going to make little slits in the pastry on the top,

0:12:12 > 0:12:13a bit different to dad.

0:12:13 > 0:12:17This is to let the air in, because sometimes the pie can explode.

0:12:17 > 0:12:21Pop it on a tray to catch the drips. Bake for one hour.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27Wow, that looks really good.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30I'm just going to get some pictures for my blog.

0:12:36 > 0:12:41- Till, slide one on, please. Tilly, these look incredible.- Thank you.

0:12:41 > 0:12:46- Really incredible.- Anyone for some kale?- Yes, please, Mum.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49- Love the kale chips, Tills. - Thank you. they're really healthy.

0:12:49 > 0:12:52So, guys, these sloppy Joes are really good for after some

0:12:52 > 0:12:56- football matches.- We are now pro American footballers.

0:12:56 > 0:12:57What kind of things did you learn?

0:12:57 > 0:13:00We did some basic drills like ladders and foot drills.

0:13:00 > 0:13:03- Then they got the quarterbacks to throw us the ball.- Wow.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05Tilly, good job, by the way.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10So, everyone, this is my all-star American pie.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12The pastry looks lovely, especially the way it's been rolled out.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15- Tilly, did you tell everybody I help to roll it?- No, you didn't.

0:13:15 > 0:13:18- You did, I did see.- You did the bottom, but no-one saw the bottom.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21- I cannot wait.- Tilly, this is a bit of a guilty treat.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24That is delicious. Seriously.

0:13:24 > 0:13:28I put this menu together for after your sporting day, I thought

0:13:28 > 0:13:31- it would be perfect. - Any moves? Any shakin' moves, Jack?

0:13:31 > 0:13:36- Go on, Jack.- T-I-LL-Y, Till-y!

0:13:36 > 0:13:38THEY CHEER

0:13:41 > 0:13:44Dad can be a pain in the butt, as they say over here, but I love

0:13:44 > 0:13:48having our foodie heart to hearts at the end of a good day's cooking.

0:13:48 > 0:13:51What do you think is the best sport in the world?

0:13:51 > 0:13:53Phew, that's a very, very tough question.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57I mean, I think soccer is one of the most watched sports in the world.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00American football is big in America,

0:14:00 > 0:14:03but it's not that big around the rest of the world.

0:14:03 > 0:14:06My favourite sport is triathlons, which is

0:14:06 > 0:14:10a combination of three sports - swimming, cycling and then running.
