0:00:50 > 0:00:52and in this show I'm going to take you
0:00:52 > 0:00:55into the world of cats and kittens.
0:00:55 > 0:01:00One in every ten homes has a cat. Maybe you have a cat?
0:01:00 > 0:01:02Or your neighbour has a cat?
0:01:02 > 0:01:05Because they're everywhere.
0:01:05 > 0:01:09On the wall, peeping round corners,
0:01:09 > 0:01:13even in places you wouldn't think about.
0:01:13 > 0:01:17Oi, what you looking at?
0:01:17 > 0:01:21Oh, I'm off exploring.
0:01:21 > 0:01:24Cats come in all shapes and colours and sizes.
0:01:24 > 0:01:31There are lazy cats, there are hungry cats, there are itchy, scratchy cats,
0:01:31 > 0:01:33there are tired cats,
0:01:33 > 0:01:36there are spoiled cats.
0:01:36 > 0:01:41There are cats who have no fur, there are cats on the lookout,
0:01:41 > 0:01:44there are even scaredy cats.
0:01:44 > 0:01:49And there are BIG cats.
0:01:49 > 0:01:53Whoa, I didn't mean that big!
0:01:53 > 0:01:56But most of the time cats just take it easy.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02So, let's meet the stars of our show.
0:02:02 > 0:02:04This is Coco.
0:02:04 > 0:02:08Hiya, everyone. Oh, I'm tired out.
0:02:08 > 0:02:12Coco's not being a sleepy cat, she's got an excuse.
0:02:12 > 0:02:14See how big her tummy is?
0:02:14 > 0:02:17That's because she's going to have kittens.
0:02:19 > 0:02:22And this is her sister, Cleo.
0:02:22 > 0:02:24She's going to be a mum too.
0:02:24 > 0:02:29Cleo, oh, you look tired as well.
0:02:29 > 0:02:32No, not tired. Hungry.
0:02:35 > 0:02:39Oh, yummy breakfast. It's not just for me, you know.
0:02:39 > 0:02:43I have to eat for me babies, as well.
0:02:43 > 0:02:47Oh, Cleo, but you always eat lots anyway, don't you?
0:02:49 > 0:02:52On Meet The Kittens, we're going to see
0:02:52 > 0:02:55Coco and Cleo as they become mums.
0:02:55 > 0:02:59And then follow the kittens as they grow up.
0:02:59 > 0:03:03Coco and Cleo live in the country,
0:03:03 > 0:03:06but all cats, in the city or the country,
0:03:06 > 0:03:09wander about wherever they want.
0:03:09 > 0:03:12They're not like dogs who have to be walked,
0:03:12 > 0:03:17and take over the whole house because they're so big.
0:03:17 > 0:03:22Cats do what they like, when they like.
0:03:22 > 0:03:29Sometimes they even stay out all night.
0:03:29 > 0:03:32Female cats can have their first litter of kittens
0:03:32 > 0:03:34when they are very young.
0:03:34 > 0:03:38But Coco and Cleo's owner didn't realise this.
0:03:38 > 0:03:41So even though they're only eight months old
0:03:41 > 0:03:43they're about to become mums.
0:03:47 > 0:03:51Today, Cleo and Coco are off to see the vet for a checkup.
0:03:51 > 0:03:57Their owner wants to make sure they're healthy and ready to be mums.
0:03:57 > 0:04:01Oh, this is exciting. We're going for a ride in the car.
0:04:01 > 0:04:06I love car rides, but my sister, no, she doesn't.
0:04:06 > 0:04:11That's right, Cleo. Coco hates cars.
0:04:11 > 0:04:14Yeah, well, they're noisy, everything moves too fast,
0:04:14 > 0:04:16and you never know when you're
0:04:16 > 0:04:20going to get to the end. Oh, I bet it's the vets.
0:04:20 > 0:04:26Coco's right. It is the vets.
0:04:26 > 0:04:31Oh, no, not this old place again. I thought we were going somewhere new.
0:04:37 > 0:04:42The vet is going to look inside your tummy and see how your babies are.
0:04:42 > 0:04:47- Oh, what can he see? - Well, that black circle is a heart.
0:04:47 > 0:04:50And those little white lines are the backbone
0:04:50 > 0:04:53and chest bone of one of your kittens.
0:04:55 > 0:04:58But is there more than one?
0:04:58 > 0:05:00Yes.
0:05:00 > 0:05:05Coco dislikes the vet's clinic even more than the car.
0:05:05 > 0:05:09Oh, I knew it. I knew we were coming here and I don't like it.
0:05:09 > 0:05:11It smells funny.
0:05:11 > 0:05:13Oh, how can I get out of here?
0:05:13 > 0:05:16Oh, no, the window's locked.
0:05:19 > 0:05:24Come on, Coco. The vet wants to check you're OK, like he did with Cleo.
0:05:29 > 0:05:33Oh, look at that. It's my babies. Oh, how many are there?
0:05:33 > 0:05:35The vet can't tell, Coco,
0:05:35 > 0:05:39how many kittens there are because they're so tiny.
0:05:39 > 0:05:45But there are lots of white lines, which means lots of kittens!
0:05:45 > 0:05:50How exciting. Some good things do come of being here...I suppose.
0:05:54 > 0:05:57And just one week later, look!
0:05:57 > 0:06:03Coco has given birth to five kittens, and Cleo to six more.
0:06:03 > 0:06:05They're all sharing the same bed,
0:06:05 > 0:06:09and since all the kittens were born at about the same time
0:06:09 > 0:06:14the proud mums are raising them as one big family.
0:06:14 > 0:06:20# Isn't she lovely? Isn't she wonderful? #
0:06:22 > 0:06:26The kittens are born with their eyes closed, so they can't see.
0:06:26 > 0:06:29And their ears are folded so they can't hear.
0:06:29 > 0:06:33Their legs are so tiny they can't walk.
0:06:33 > 0:06:35They can only crawl.
0:06:35 > 0:06:37They're little bundles of fluff
0:06:37 > 0:06:41who will spend most of their time sleeping.
0:06:45 > 0:06:50So, what's next for Coco, Cleo and their 11 kittens?
0:06:50 > 0:06:53We'll see you next time.
0:06:53 > 0:06:57Having a kitten is a huge, time-consuming responsibility
0:06:57 > 0:07:01and if you want an idea of exactly what's involved,
0:07:01 > 0:07:05check out the Meet The Kittens page on the CBeebies' website.
