0:00:57 > 0:01:00and delve into the secret life of cats and kittens.
0:01:01 > 0:01:05Did you know that one in every ten homes has a cat?
0:01:05 > 0:01:06That is a lot of cats.
0:01:06 > 0:01:08'What, counted us all, have you?'
0:01:09 > 0:01:12I bet you've seen loads of them, because they're everywhere.
0:01:12 > 0:01:17Crouching on the wall, peeping round corners, lying under cars.
0:01:17 > 0:01:19Even sitting on wheelie bins!
0:01:19 > 0:01:21'I know I'm a black cat,
0:01:21 > 0:01:23'I just hope they don't mistake me for a bin bag!'
0:01:24 > 0:01:27Yep, cats are everywhere.
0:01:27 > 0:01:30And they just love getting out of the house and exploring.
0:01:30 > 0:01:34Cats come in all shapes and colours and sizes.
0:01:34 > 0:01:36There are curved cats.
0:01:36 > 0:01:38There are flat cats.
0:01:38 > 0:01:41There are lazy cats.
0:01:41 > 0:01:42There are active cats.
0:01:44 > 0:01:45There are grumpy cats.
0:01:47 > 0:01:49And there are bald cats.
0:01:49 > 0:01:51'Oi, who are you calling bald?'
0:01:51 > 0:01:54There are even scaredy-cats.
0:01:55 > 0:01:57And there are big cats.
0:01:57 > 0:01:59ROAR!
0:01:59 > 0:02:01I didn't mean that big!
0:02:01 > 0:02:04You wouldn't want that sitting on your lap!
0:02:04 > 0:02:06But the one thing most cats have in common
0:02:06 > 0:02:09is they like to get comfortable and sleep.
0:02:10 > 0:02:13So let's meet the stars of our show.
0:02:13 > 0:02:15Our first cat is called Coco.
0:02:15 > 0:02:18'Oh, hello everyone. Don't mind me, I'm just having a cat nap.'
0:02:20 > 0:02:22Coco's got an excuse for being a sleepy cat -
0:02:22 > 0:02:24see how big her stomach is?
0:02:24 > 0:02:27That's not because she's stuffed her face with buckets of mice.
0:02:27 > 0:02:29That's because she's going to have kittens.
0:02:31 > 0:02:35And this is her sister Cleo. She's having kittens too.
0:02:35 > 0:02:37Cleo! You look tired as well.
0:02:37 > 0:02:41'Well done, Sherlock(!) Is it my yawning that gives it away?
0:02:41 > 0:02:45'I'm exhausted. I can't even get up the stairs to bed.
0:02:45 > 0:02:48'I'll just have to sleep here till it's breakfast time!'
0:02:48 > 0:02:50SHE YAWNS
0:02:50 > 0:02:52Cleo, it's breakfast time!
0:02:52 > 0:02:56'Oh, goody! I have breakfast every time I wake up.
0:02:56 > 0:03:00'That's about 11 times a day. I have to eat. It's not just for me,
0:03:00 > 0:03:03'you know, I'm eating for my kittens.
0:03:03 > 0:03:06'And then I'll have a little lie down.'
0:03:06 > 0:03:08MEOW!
0:03:08 > 0:03:12On Meet The Kittens, we're going to be with Coco and Cleo 24/7
0:03:12 > 0:03:14as they become mums for the first time.
0:03:16 > 0:03:17Coco and Cleo live in the country,
0:03:17 > 0:03:22but wherever cats live they love to wander around without their owners.
0:03:23 > 0:03:26They're not like big, lazy dogs who have to be walked
0:03:26 > 0:03:29and take over the whole house because they're so massive.
0:03:32 > 0:03:35Cats are exciting. They do whatever they like.
0:03:35 > 0:03:39They roam around all over the place. Sometimes they stay out all night.
0:03:39 > 0:03:42Not even I do that, and I'm a grown-up!
0:03:42 > 0:03:45Coco and Cleo's owner didn't realise that female cats
0:03:45 > 0:03:49can have their first litter of kittens when they're very young.
0:03:49 > 0:03:51Cats as young as six months can have a quick operation,
0:03:51 > 0:03:55called spaying, which stops them from having kittens.
0:03:55 > 0:03:58Cleo and Coco are only eight months old,
0:03:58 > 0:04:01but they haven't been spayed, so they're about to become mums.
0:04:01 > 0:04:02MEOW!
0:04:04 > 0:04:08Today, Cleo and Coco are off to see the vet for a checkup.
0:04:08 > 0:04:10(Just don't let them know!)
0:04:10 > 0:04:11They don't like the vet's,
0:04:11 > 0:04:13but it's important to make sure they're healthy
0:04:13 > 0:04:14and ready to become mums.
0:04:14 > 0:04:19'Ooh, this is exciting. We're going for a ride in the car.
0:04:19 > 0:04:21'Bagsy the front seat!
0:04:21 > 0:04:25'Oh - OK then. I'll go in the cage in the boot. I love car rides.
0:04:26 > 0:04:28'I hate car rides!
0:04:28 > 0:04:30'They're noisy and I have to share a cage with my sister.
0:04:30 > 0:04:33'Come on, Cleo, budge up!
0:04:33 > 0:04:36'This could be exciting. We could be going on holiday.'
0:04:36 > 0:04:38'Are we there yet?
0:04:38 > 0:04:40'Are we there yet?
0:04:40 > 0:04:45'Oh, this is taking forever. I just hope we're not going to the vet's.
0:04:45 > 0:04:47'Please don't let it be the vet's.
0:04:47 > 0:04:49'Oh, no! It's the vet's!
0:04:50 > 0:04:53'I can't remember exactly what the vet does,
0:04:53 > 0:04:56'but I'm pretty sure I don't like it.'
0:04:56 > 0:04:59Come on, Cleo. He needs to check your teeth are healthy.
0:04:59 > 0:05:03'He'll feel how good my teeth are in a minute, when I bite him.'
0:05:03 > 0:05:05Just chillax! It'll be a piece of cake.
0:05:05 > 0:05:07'Did someone say cake...?
0:05:07 > 0:05:10'Hang on. What's he doing with that thing?'
0:05:10 > 0:05:12Well, Cleo, that's an ultrasound machine
0:05:12 > 0:05:14that can scan inside the body
0:05:14 > 0:05:17and examine your kittens. How cool is that?
0:05:18 > 0:05:20'What can he see?'
0:05:20 > 0:05:21Well, that black circle is a heart,
0:05:21 > 0:05:23and those little white lines
0:05:23 > 0:05:24are the backbone and chest bone
0:05:24 > 0:05:25of one of your kittens.
0:05:25 > 0:05:29'Did you say "kittens" As in, more than one?
0:05:29 > 0:05:32'Oh, I'd better start eating a bit more then.'
0:05:32 > 0:05:33It's Coco's turn now,
0:05:33 > 0:05:37and she hates the vet's clinic even more than the car.
0:05:37 > 0:05:39'I don't like it here - and no matter how much you stroke me
0:05:39 > 0:05:41'I'm not going to enjoy this.
0:05:42 > 0:05:44'How can I get out of here?
0:05:44 > 0:05:48'It's a vet's, they must have a catflap somewhere.'
0:05:48 > 0:05:50Come on, Coco. He just wants to check you're OK.
0:05:50 > 0:05:54'I am, thank you very much, apart from being stuck in a car
0:05:54 > 0:05:57'and taken to the vet's. Worst day ever!'
0:05:58 > 0:06:01Stop being a madam - he's checking you like he did with Cleo,
0:06:01 > 0:06:04to make sure your kittens are OK.
0:06:04 > 0:06:07'Well - all right, then, just be quick about it.'
0:06:07 > 0:06:10Look. Your kittens are coming up on the screen now.
0:06:12 > 0:06:15'Wow. Are they my kittens?
0:06:15 > 0:06:18'Can we put that on YouTube? How many are there?'
0:06:18 > 0:06:21'The vet can't tell Coco how many, because the kittens are so tiny.
0:06:21 > 0:06:23'But there are lots of white lines,
0:06:23 > 0:06:24'which means lots of kittens.'
0:06:25 > 0:06:27'I wonder if they'll look like me?
0:06:27 > 0:06:30'I hope so, because I'm GORGEOUS.
0:06:30 > 0:06:35'Hang on. Humans get a sticker for being brave after their checkups.
0:06:35 > 0:06:37'Hey - where's my treat?'
0:06:38 > 0:06:39# Love
0:06:39 > 0:06:44# Don't ever change the way you are... #
0:06:44 > 0:06:47And just one week later - look.
0:06:47 > 0:06:49Coco has given birth to five kittens,
0:06:49 > 0:06:51and Cleo to six more.
0:06:51 > 0:06:52And they're all gorgeous,
0:06:52 > 0:06:55and really hard to tell apart.
0:06:55 > 0:06:57'No, they're not. They're all completely different.'
0:06:58 > 0:07:00Whatever. Anyway,
0:07:00 > 0:07:01they're all sharing the same bed,
0:07:01 > 0:07:03and since all of them were born
0:07:03 > 0:07:04around the same time,
0:07:04 > 0:07:06the proud mums have decided to
0:07:06 > 0:07:08raise them as one big happy family.
0:07:08 > 0:07:09Mind you - even with two mums,
0:07:09 > 0:07:11that's a lot of looking after.
0:07:11 > 0:07:12The kittens are born
0:07:12 > 0:07:14with their eyes closed,
0:07:14 > 0:07:16so they can't see, and their ears
0:07:16 > 0:07:18are folded so they can't hear.
0:07:18 > 0:07:19The legs are so tiny they can't walk,
0:07:19 > 0:07:21they only crawl.
0:07:21 > 0:07:22Which is probably just as well.
0:07:22 > 0:07:24Because if they can see or hear,
0:07:24 > 0:07:26they'd keep bumping into things.
0:07:28 > 0:07:30They're little bundles of fluff who
0:07:30 > 0:07:32will spend most of the time sleeping.
0:07:32 > 0:07:33I think that's something
0:07:33 > 0:07:35they get from their mums.
0:07:35 > 0:07:37Isn't that right, Coco? Cleo?
0:07:37 > 0:07:38SNORING
0:07:41 > 0:07:43What next for Coco, Cleo

0:07:45 > 0:07:48Well - we'll find out next time.
