0:00:35 > 0:00:38Hello, and welcome to Meet The Pups,
0:00:38 > 0:00:41a show where we're going to spend some time with puppies
0:00:41 > 0:00:43from the day they are born.
0:00:45 > 0:00:47Dogs come in all shapes and sizes.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51Big dogs,
0:00:51 > 0:00:54little dogs,
0:00:54 > 0:00:55funny dogs...
0:00:57 > 0:00:59..speedy dogs,
0:00:59 > 0:01:00lazy dogs,
0:01:00 > 0:01:01yappy dogs
0:01:01 > 0:01:03and slobbery dogs.
0:01:06 > 0:01:11But our pups are going to be special. Let's meet Mum and Dad.
0:01:11 > 0:01:16Their names are Lola and Morgan, and they are Springer spaniels.
0:01:16 > 0:01:18Springer spaniels have amazing eyesight
0:01:18 > 0:01:23and a great sense of smell, and they're good friends to have around.
0:01:24 > 0:01:25This is Lola.
0:01:25 > 0:01:31She's about to become a mum for the first time, so she's a bit excited.
0:01:31 > 0:01:36And this is Morgan, and he's going to be a dad for the first time.
0:01:36 > 0:01:38He's very loud and lively.
0:01:41 > 0:01:45When he's not admiring his good looks in a puddle,
0:01:45 > 0:01:48his favourite things are his tennis balls.
0:01:49 > 0:01:53And digging...and digging... and digging.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56If making holes was an Olympic sport,
0:01:56 > 0:01:59Morgan would be a gold medal winner.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07How many puppies do you think you'll have, Lola?
0:02:07 > 0:02:09'Oh, well, you know.
0:02:09 > 0:02:13'I think I can feel about three or four little ones inside me.'
0:02:13 > 0:02:15'I hope it's four! I bet it's four.
0:02:15 > 0:02:17'The best things come in fours.
0:02:17 > 0:02:22'Dogs have four legs, and I've got four tennis balls.'
0:02:26 > 0:02:28This is Lola and Morgan's home
0:02:28 > 0:02:33where we're going to be living with them and watch the pups grow.
0:02:33 > 0:02:36It's going to be an adventure and lots of fun.
0:02:37 > 0:02:42We're all excited because tonight, in this very box,
0:02:42 > 0:02:44Lola is going to give birth.
0:02:53 > 0:02:57But first, Lola has to prepare the box for her puppies.
0:02:57 > 0:02:59She's smoothing out towels
0:02:59 > 0:03:04and tearing up bits of newspaper to make a nice nest for her pups.
0:03:11 > 0:03:17By panting harder and starting to push, Lola gets ready to give birth.
0:03:17 > 0:03:20But no-one knows how long it will take.
0:03:26 > 0:03:31At last, after one, two, three, four, five,
0:03:31 > 0:03:37six hours and a lot of panting and pushing, the first puppy arrives!
0:03:39 > 0:03:41'It's a girl! It's a beautiful girl!'
0:03:41 > 0:03:44'Actually, Morgan, it's a boy.'
0:03:44 > 0:03:47'Oh, what are we going to call him?'
0:03:47 > 0:03:50'Well, he looks like a Bonzo to me...'
0:03:50 > 0:03:52'Yes. Bonzo. Hello, Bonzo!'
0:03:55 > 0:04:00It takes another long time before the second pup follows.
0:04:00 > 0:04:03- This time, it- is- a girl.
0:04:03 > 0:04:06'Oh, I want to name her. Let's call her Betsy.'
0:04:10 > 0:04:14When puppies are born, they can't see, they can't hear,
0:04:14 > 0:04:17they can't walk and they have no teeth.
0:04:17 > 0:04:22So Lola has to look after them very carefully.
0:04:22 > 0:04:25Wherever Lola goes, she carries the puppies with her.
0:04:25 > 0:04:31It might look like it hurts, but Lola's mouth holds them very gently.
0:04:31 > 0:04:33By having the puppies close,
0:04:33 > 0:04:36Lola gives them the loving care they need,
0:04:36 > 0:04:38keeping them safe and warm.
0:04:38 > 0:04:43But guess what? Here's another pup popping out.
0:04:43 > 0:04:44It's another girl.
0:04:44 > 0:04:47'Hmm, what shall we call her?'
0:04:47 > 0:04:50'Oh, how about something sweet, like Biscuit?'
0:04:50 > 0:04:52'Biscuit? Did she say Biscuit?'
0:04:52 > 0:04:56'Yes, Morgan. But not the kind you can eat.'
0:04:56 > 0:04:59By licking the pup's nose and mouth,
0:04:59 > 0:05:03Lola is making sure the puppy can breathe.
0:05:03 > 0:05:06Hey, Lola. Wasn't Morgan hoping for four pups?
0:05:07 > 0:05:10'Oh. Yes. Number four.
0:05:10 > 0:05:13'Yes, I can still feel something inside, but, ooh...
0:05:13 > 0:05:15'This doesn't feel right at all.'
0:05:15 > 0:05:19'What's happening? Where are Lola and the pups going?
0:05:19 > 0:05:22'Where are they taking them?'
0:05:22 > 0:05:23Don't worry, Morgan.
0:05:23 > 0:05:27We're off to see the vet to make sure everything is all right.
0:05:30 > 0:05:35Lola's owners want to know if she still has another pup inside.
0:05:35 > 0:05:40If she does and it's stuck, it could make her very sick.
0:05:40 > 0:05:43The vet's having a good luck at Lola's tummy.
0:05:51 > 0:05:54The next day, there's some surprising news
0:05:54 > 0:05:56about pup number four.
0:05:56 > 0:05:59Morgan is still waiting to hear what happened.
0:06:02 > 0:06:05'Morgan, I think you better sit down.'
0:06:06 > 0:06:08'Is it bad news?'
0:06:08 > 0:06:09'Well...
0:06:09 > 0:06:12'Oh, it's a bit embarrassing to say this,
0:06:12 > 0:06:16'but pup number four turned out to be a number two.'
0:06:17 > 0:06:22'Oh. It wasn't a pup. She just needed a really big poo. Ha-ha-ha!'
0:06:26 > 0:06:30After all the excitement, Lola and Morgan are very tired.
0:06:33 > 0:06:34And the pups?
0:06:35 > 0:06:39Well, they just slept through it all. Aren't they lovely?
0:06:43 > 0:06:47Owning and looking after any pet is a big responsibility.
0:06:47 > 0:06:49If you want an idea
