0:00:45 > 0:00:50Hello, there. Great to see you again.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Look what I've just had sent to me.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56It's a parcel. Ooh, how exciting.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59It says here it's from Granny Maker.

0:00:59 > 0:01:03Oh, good old Granny. She always sends such great presents.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05What could it be?

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Maybe it's a book, or a toy, or a cake.

0:01:08 > 0:01:10Or...

0:01:10 > 0:01:14Oh! A huge multi-coloured patterned jumper?

0:01:14 > 0:01:17Oh, well. I suppose I'd better try it on.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Ha ha! Yeah...

0:01:20 > 0:01:23It's a little on the large side.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25It's quite a strange design.

0:01:25 > 0:01:29It's got lots of different patterns all over it.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32And that gives me a great idea.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34Let's try something.

0:01:35 > 0:01:40Try making a patchwork pattern using different types of colourful paper.

0:01:40 > 0:01:41Let's make it.

0:01:41 > 0:01:45We'll need some things from the Doodle Drawers,

0:01:45 > 0:01:49but I'd better take this jumper off first. I'll get too hot.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51That's better. Let's go.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56A piece of coloured paper and some scissors.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01A ruler, a pencil and a glue stick.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07And one, two, three, four different types

0:02:07 > 0:02:09of coloured patterned paper.

0:02:09 > 0:02:10Wow!

0:02:10 > 0:02:15Now, to make a patchwork pattern like this one here,

0:02:15 > 0:02:19you need to get a piece of patterned paper and turn it over,

0:02:19 > 0:02:21like this.

0:02:21 > 0:02:23Then get your ruler

0:02:23 > 0:02:26and lay it along the bottom edge, like this.

0:02:26 > 0:02:29Now we're going to take a pencil

0:02:29 > 0:02:33and very carefully, draw a line along the top of the ruler.

0:02:33 > 0:02:39This will give us a strip that's as wide as the ruler.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41Now, take the ruler again

0:02:41 > 0:02:44and just sit it on top of the line you've drawn.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46And again, do the same.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48Draw a line.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51That will give us another strip. Perfect!

0:02:51 > 0:02:55Carry on drawing lines all the way to the top of the paper.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Now we need to cut these strips out.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03But be careful, scissors are sharp!

0:03:03 > 0:03:05SCISSORS SNARL AND SNAP

0:03:12 > 0:03:17Then, draw lines across your strips, like this.

0:03:17 > 0:03:21These lines, again, need to be about as wide as your ruler,

0:03:21 > 0:03:26so if we sit the ruler on the bottom there and draw a line,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29this will give us a square.

0:03:31 > 0:03:34Great. Now carry on drawing lines all the way up the strip

0:03:34 > 0:03:37and you're ready to cut the squares out.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41And do the same on the other strips

0:03:41 > 0:03:45and of course your other pieces of coloured patterned paper.

0:03:50 > 0:03:52Now you should have four piles

0:03:52 > 0:03:56of different coloured and different patterned paper.

0:03:56 > 0:04:02Let's move these over here and then take a piece of coloured paper.

0:04:02 > 0:04:06We're going to choose a square from a pile. How about...?

0:04:06 > 0:04:07Yes, this red one.

0:04:07 > 0:04:10We're going to glue it in the middle of the paper.

0:04:12 > 0:04:13There.

0:04:13 > 0:04:17Now we need to choose squares from a different pile.

0:04:17 > 0:04:21We're going to glue them around the edge of this first square.

0:04:21 > 0:04:26So that's here, here, here and here.

0:04:26 > 0:04:31It's looking good. Now we're going to choose squares from another pile

0:04:31 > 0:04:35and glue them around the edges here.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40Let's do the same now with our fourth pile of squares.

0:04:40 > 0:04:44Of course, we're sticking them all the way round the edge

0:04:44 > 0:04:46of our last colour.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53You can make your patchwork pattern as big as you like.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56Let's start again with that first colour,

0:04:56 > 0:04:59which was the red square in the middle.

0:04:59 > 0:05:04Start laying them around the edge. Don't worry if you run out of space

0:05:04 > 0:05:07on the edges of your paper like this.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12You can just leave a gap and carry on round the other side.

0:05:12 > 0:05:14When you're happy, glue it all down.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16And there you have it.

0:05:16 > 0:05:20A brilliant patchwork pattern!

0:05:20 > 0:05:25And you could try using different types of patterned paper, like this.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30Or you could make a really big pattern, oooh,

0:05:30 > 0:05:33with different types of paper.

0:05:33 > 0:05:37It's up to you. You can make anything into a pattern,

0:05:37 > 0:05:41just like Granny Maker and her delightful knitted jumper.

0:05:41 > 0:05:44- PHONE RINGS - I wonder who that could be.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47Hello? Oh, hello, Granny.

0:05:47 > 0:05:51Yes, I got your parcel. Thank you. It was...um...quite unusual.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54Does it fit? Um...

0:05:54 > 0:05:56WHIRRING

0:05:56 > 0:05:58I'll have to call you back.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01There's a strange noise coming from the shelves.

0:06:01 > 0:06:03Thanks again. Bye.

0:06:03 > 0:06:06Phew! Come on.

0:06:07 > 0:06:12Ah, I knew it. It's just the Shapes, and they're asleep again.

0:06:12 > 0:06:14Let's wake them up!

0:06:19 > 0:06:20Ah!

0:06:20 > 0:06:22He-he-he-hey! Hey!

0:06:22 > 0:06:26Awww, heeey, aaah, yeah!

0:06:34 > 0:06:35MUSIC I am a shape

0:06:38 > 0:06:40I am a shape

0:06:43 > 0:06:45I am a circle

0:06:48 > 0:06:51I am a triangle

0:06:53 > 0:06:55I am a square

0:06:58 > 0:07:00I am a rectangle

0:07:03 > 0:07:05I am a shape

0:07:06 > 0:07:09I am a rectangle

0:07:10 > 0:07:13How many rectangles can you see?

0:07:13 > 0:07:14One,

0:07:14 > 0:07:16two,

0:07:16 > 0:07:17three,

0:07:17 > 0:07:18four,

0:07:18 > 0:07:19five, six,

0:07:19 > 0:07:21seven, eight,

0:07:21 > 0:07:22nine,

0:07:22 > 0:07:24ten.

0:07:24 > 0:07:27That's right, there are ten rectangles.

0:07:27 > 0:07:31Well done, rectangle. It's time to get back on the shelf.

0:07:31 > 0:07:34- Weee!- He he he!- Ha ha ha!

0:07:34 > 0:07:38- Oooh!- Wooop!- Ooh!- He he!

0:07:38 > 0:07:40- He he.- Oh dear.

0:07:43 > 0:07:48That was a great puzzle. Those shapes are clever, aren't they? Oh!

0:07:48 > 0:07:51Tocky here. Minute-make time!

0:07:51 > 0:07:53Ooh, it's minute-make time. Come on!

0:07:58 > 0:08:02Here's what we're going to make today. A pencil bug.

0:08:02 > 0:08:08Mr Pencil Bug, I'm WOOLLY pleased to see you! He he!

0:08:08 > 0:08:11To make one of these, you will need...

0:08:11 > 0:08:12some sticky tack,

0:08:12 > 0:08:14a pair of scissors,

0:08:14 > 0:08:15a glue stick,

0:08:15 > 0:08:17a pencil,

0:08:17 > 0:08:19a short piece of wool

0:08:19 > 0:08:22and a very long piece of wool.

0:08:22 > 0:08:24We'll also need some googly eyes.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28You can get these from an art and craft shop. Back in a tick.

0:08:30 > 0:08:31CAR ENGINE

0:08:32 > 0:08:33I've got them.

0:08:33 > 0:08:36Here they are.

0:08:36 > 0:08:38Our googly eyes.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41Do you think it's possible to make this...

0:08:41 > 0:08:43in just one minute?

0:08:43 > 0:08:44No way!

0:08:44 > 0:08:49I think I can. I'll have to be very quick, but don't worry,

0:08:49 > 0:08:52I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54Start the clock!

0:08:54 > 0:08:55Here we go.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57Get the long piece of wool

0:08:57 > 0:09:00and wrap it around your hand, like this.

0:09:00 > 0:09:01Round and round it goes.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05And then carefully slide it off your hand,

0:09:05 > 0:09:08get the small piece of wool, tie it in the middle

0:09:08 > 0:09:10like that.

0:09:10 > 0:09:11There we go.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13Tie it nice and tight.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15There. Then get a pair of scissors

0:09:15 > 0:09:19and very carefully cut through the loops on both sides.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21There's one side.

0:09:21 > 0:09:23Here's the other side now.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29There we go. That gives us a fluffy bug.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32Now we need to glue on these googly eyes, like this.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35There's one googly eye,

0:09:35 > 0:09:37there's the other googly eye.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41Then if we get our sticky tack on the end of our pencil,

0:09:41 > 0:09:45we can push it onto our pencil bug!

0:09:45 > 0:09:47Phew, I made it!

0:09:47 > 0:09:49BUZZER Only just!

0:09:49 > 0:09:52Yes! If you've got more than a minute,

0:09:52 > 0:09:54you can make all sorts of pencil bugs.

0:09:54 > 0:09:57How about a brilliant blue one?

0:09:57 > 0:10:01Or this big one made of multi-coloured wool?

0:10:01 > 0:10:05Pencil bugs made in a minute. Why don't you try and make one?

0:10:05 > 0:10:07Here's a reminder of how to do it.

0:10:07 > 0:10:11Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15Wrap a long piece of wool around your hand

0:10:15 > 0:10:17and carefully take it off.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20Tie a smaller piece of wool around the middle.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24Cut the wool around the edges and glue on googly eyes.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27Stick it on the pencil with sticky tack

0:10:27 > 0:10:29to complete your woolly pencil bug.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Why don't you try and make it in a minute?

0:10:33 > 0:10:36We're here, Mister Maker!

0:10:36 > 0:10:38Oh, hello, everyone.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41- Watch this!- I wonder what they're up to.

0:10:46 > 0:10:48I am red.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54I am pink.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58I am green.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02I am peach.

0:11:05 > 0:11:06I'm yellow.

0:11:16 > 0:11:17It's a cake!

0:11:17 > 0:11:22Well done, everybody. See you next time. Now it's time to...

0:11:22 > 0:11:23frame it.

0:11:24 > 0:11:26Frame it.

0:11:27 > 0:11:28Frame it.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32Now, take a look at this.

0:11:33 > 0:11:37This night time picture is made in a really clever way,

0:11:37 > 0:11:41and it looks so effective, you'll be able to frame it.

0:11:41 > 0:11:45You will need coloured card, dark paper, white chalk,

0:11:45 > 0:11:49black paint, a pencil and a paintbrush.

0:11:49 > 0:11:53First, paint a thick layer of black paint all over the card

0:11:53 > 0:11:54and leave it to dry.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58Then take a piece of dark-coloured paper

0:11:58 > 0:12:01and completely cover it with white chalk.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05Place the chalk side down on top of the dry, painted card,

0:12:05 > 0:12:10and now you can draw a night-time picture in a very clever way.

0:12:10 > 0:12:12Draw whatever you want.

0:12:12 > 0:12:14This is going to be a cat,

0:12:14 > 0:12:16outside in the moonlight.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19Add a long fence,

0:12:19 > 0:12:20and the moon,

0:12:20 > 0:12:22and let's add a tree.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27Then slowly lift it off to reveal where

0:12:27 > 0:12:32the white chalk has rubbed onto the black painted card underneath,

0:12:32 > 0:12:35giving you a fantastic effect.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37What a brilliant picture.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39Why don't you have a go, and then...

0:12:39 > 0:12:41frame it!

0:12:42 > 0:12:44Isn't that clever?

0:12:44 > 0:12:46OWL HOOTS

0:12:46 > 0:12:48Now, what's going on here?

0:12:49 > 0:12:50TYRES SCREECH

0:12:50 > 0:12:51Ha ha!

0:12:51 > 0:12:54Have a look at my teeny, tiny car here.

0:12:54 > 0:12:55It's brilliant.

0:12:55 > 0:12:59And if you think that's good take a look at this.

0:12:59 > 0:13:01Here he is.

0:13:01 > 0:13:03It's my mini Mister Maker.

0:13:03 > 0:13:06Let's make it! Ha ha!

0:13:06 > 0:13:08I love playing with teeny tiny toys.

0:13:08 > 0:13:11Which gives me a great idea.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Let's make something.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17Make yourself a marvellous miniature garden.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19It's not big,

0:13:19 > 0:13:21but it's very clever.

0:13:21 > 0:13:25Let's make it! We'll need some things from the Doodle Drawer.

0:13:27 > 0:13:30A green paper plate and some pipe cleaners.

0:13:31 > 0:13:35A pencil, some modelling clay and some coloured card.

0:13:37 > 0:13:40Lollypop sticks and twigs.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44Sticky tape, glue and red stickers.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49Some flower-shaped buttons and a toy duck!

0:13:49 > 0:13:51- DUCK QUACKS - Really? Great!

0:13:52 > 0:13:56Whoa! Now, to make a tiny garden,

0:13:56 > 0:14:01like this one here which has a path, a pond with a duck swimming in it,

0:14:01 > 0:14:05a flowerbed, a fence and some lovely trees.

0:14:05 > 0:14:10Let's start off by getting a blue piece of card like this...

0:14:10 > 0:14:14We're going to draw a squiggly shape with a pencil for our pond.

0:14:14 > 0:14:19That looks good! Now, we'll get a green piece of card.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22We'll draw two cloud shapes.

0:14:22 > 0:14:24These will be the top of our trees.

0:14:24 > 0:14:28Great! Now we can cut these shapes out but be careful,

0:14:28 > 0:14:30because scissors are sharp!

0:14:30 > 0:14:33- SNAPPING - Ooh!

0:14:39 > 0:14:42Now, glue the blue squiggly pond

0:14:42 > 0:14:44in the middle of the plate.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51Now we need to get some grey modelling clay,

0:14:51 > 0:14:56and we're going to roll a few, tiny balls like this...

0:14:56 > 0:15:01These balls are going to help us make a tiny path.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04Gently squeeze them onto the plate,

0:15:04 > 0:15:06like this...

0:15:06 > 0:15:08Lovely!

0:15:08 > 0:15:12Now, let's get some brown modelling clay.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15We need to roll a long sausage shape.

0:15:15 > 0:15:17And we'll mould and squidge it

0:15:17 > 0:15:20to the back of the plate to make a flowerbed.

0:15:22 > 0:15:27Then, carefully snap three of your lolly sticks in half.

0:15:27 > 0:15:32You might want to ask an adult to help you. It's a bit tricky.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38Now bring in two whole lolly sticks,

0:15:39 > 0:15:42like this, and lay them down.

0:15:42 > 0:15:48Then start to glue all the pieces of lolly stick across,

0:15:48 > 0:15:49to make a fence.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57When the fence is dry

0:15:57 > 0:16:02carefully push it into the back of your flowerbed.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07There we go. Lovely.

0:16:07 > 0:16:11Now...let's take the two curvy tree shapes

0:16:11 > 0:16:13we cut out earlier

0:16:13 > 0:16:16and stick two twigs onto the back.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19A little twig for the little one

0:16:19 > 0:16:22and a large twig for the large tree.

0:16:22 > 0:16:26And now we have two trees.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29They look really good, but we can make them even better

0:16:29 > 0:16:33by adding some red stickers for apples.

0:16:35 > 0:16:36There we go.

0:16:36 > 0:16:39Two lovely apple trees.

0:16:39 > 0:16:42Let's stick them into our garden.

0:16:42 > 0:16:46I think I'll put the big tree at the back.

0:16:48 > 0:16:51And the smaller one just in front.

0:16:54 > 0:16:58Fantastic! Our garden is starting to take shape,

0:16:58 > 0:17:02but now we need to plant some flowers in our flowerbed.

0:17:03 > 0:17:07First, we need some green pipe cleaners

0:17:07 > 0:17:12and just very carefully snip them into small pieces.

0:17:18 > 0:17:21Now you've got your pieces of pipe cleaner

0:17:21 > 0:17:24you need to find a flower-shaped button

0:17:24 > 0:17:26like this.

0:17:26 > 0:17:30Turn it over - there's a little loop in the back

0:17:30 > 0:17:33in which you can push the pipe cleaner through.

0:17:33 > 0:17:39Fold it over to make a little, tiny flower.

0:17:39 > 0:17:43Don't worry if you haven't got flower-shaped buttons.

0:17:43 > 0:17:49You can draw and cut out a flower shape on coloured card,

0:17:49 > 0:17:54make a little hole in the middle and push the pipe cleaner through.

0:17:54 > 0:17:59When you've got your flowers, bring back your garden

0:17:59 > 0:18:03and start planting your flowers in the flowerbed.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09Wow! Isn't that amazing?!

0:18:09 > 0:18:11Why not float something on the pond

0:18:11 > 0:18:14like a teeny-tiny boat or...

0:18:14 > 0:18:17a little toy duck?

0:18:17 > 0:18:18- Quack!- Aw...

0:18:18 > 0:18:23Look at it. A wonderful, terrific, tiny garden.

0:18:23 > 0:18:27You can make any type of tiny world that you like.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30How about this tiny jungle?

0:18:30 > 0:18:33It's got lots of card leaves and pipe cleaner trees

0:18:33 > 0:18:35- with a toy tiger.- Rrrr!

0:18:35 > 0:18:40Or you could even try making another tiny garden

0:18:40 > 0:18:42on a bigger tray. Instead of a fence

0:18:42 > 0:18:45it's got a lolly stick bench.

0:18:45 > 0:18:46Time to go!

0:18:46 > 0:18:49Oh! That means my making time's over,

0:18:49 > 0:18:53but yours is just beginning. See you soon!

0:18:53 > 0:18:57It's time to put all this stuff back in its box.

0:18:59 > 0:19:03If you like making things like Mister Maker visit...

0:19:05 > 0:19:07..for more ideas.
