0:00:36 > 0:00:38# Make it, Mister Maker

0:00:38 > 0:00:40# Make it, Mister Maker

0:00:40 > 0:00:41# Mister Maker! #

0:00:43 > 0:00:45- CHUCKLING - Oh, hello! Great to see you.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49I'm having a rummage in the Doodle Drawers.

0:00:49 > 0:00:50I'm looking for...

0:00:50 > 0:00:54some...aha! ..wool! Here it is.

0:00:54 > 0:00:58Now, it's my auntie Mildred Maker's birthday,

0:00:58 > 0:01:02so I'm going to knit her a scarf. She'd really like that, yeah.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04HE CHUCKLES

0:01:05 > 0:01:06BAA!

0:01:06 > 0:01:09I'm sure the end's not far away.

0:01:10 > 0:01:11BAA!

0:01:11 > 0:01:16Oh, right. I'll just give it a little pull.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Oh! At last!

0:01:29 > 0:01:32- I've found the end of the wool. Ha! - BAA!

0:01:32 > 0:01:36Oh. But I might be a bit tangled up.

0:01:36 > 0:01:37HE CHUCKLES

0:01:37 > 0:01:39Never mind though,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42this has given me a great idea!

0:01:42 > 0:01:43DING!

0:01:43 > 0:01:44Let's try something!

0:01:45 > 0:01:49Try making a wonderful, woolly, winding picture.

0:01:49 > 0:01:51First, we need to tidy up...

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Whoo! Ha-ha-ha!

0:01:55 > 0:01:59Let's make it! We'll need some things from the Doodle Drawers.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03Some cotton reels.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09- Some coloured wool... - BAA!

0:02:12 > 0:02:15..some gloopy PVA glue...

0:02:17 > 0:02:20..and some card.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Whoa! Look at this wonderful,

0:02:24 > 0:02:28woolly, winding picture. To make one of your very own,

0:02:28 > 0:02:34you need some coloured card. And you also need some cotton reels.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37You can use as many as you like,

0:02:37 > 0:02:41but it looks really good if you use at least six.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Place your cotton reels around the card,

0:02:44 > 0:02:47and make sure they're spaced out, like this.

0:02:47 > 0:02:51When you're happy with the position of your reels,

0:02:51 > 0:02:53stick them down with gloopy glue.

0:02:59 > 0:03:02When the reels have dried firmly in place,

0:03:02 > 0:03:07attach a piece of thin wool to one of the reels with a knot,

0:03:07 > 0:03:10like this. This can be a bit tricky,

0:03:10 > 0:03:14so you might want to ask an adult to help you.

0:03:16 > 0:03:21Now we're going to start winding the wool around

0:03:21 > 0:03:22all of the cotton reels.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Just wrap it around each one in a loop,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28then move on to the next one and do the same.

0:03:28 > 0:03:33Keep going until you've gone round each reel, and you're at the start.

0:03:33 > 0:03:34Tie another knot,

0:03:34 > 0:03:38and then snip off any extra bits of wool that you don't need.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41But be careful, because scissors are sharp.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43- Oooh! - SNARLING

0:03:46 > 0:03:50Do exactly the same, but with a different coloured wool.

0:03:50 > 0:03:52I think blue will look good.

0:03:52 > 0:03:56This time, we're going to start from a different reel.

0:03:56 > 0:04:00Let's wrap it round, and tie a knot again.

0:04:03 > 0:04:06There. Nice and secure.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08We'll wind around all the reels again,

0:04:08 > 0:04:12but wrap your wool around in a different order.

0:04:12 > 0:04:14Ensure you go round them all.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16And remember to finish up...

0:04:16 > 0:04:20at the reel you started with. Tie a knot,

0:04:20 > 0:04:22and snip off any extra bits.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32It's looking good! You can make it look even better

0:04:32 > 0:04:35by doing the same, using different colours,

0:04:35 > 0:04:38and winding around in different ways.

0:04:38 > 0:04:43What a great effect! It's a wonderful, woolly, winding picture.

0:04:43 > 0:04:47There are lots of colours and designs you can try.

0:04:47 > 0:04:52This one is made by sticking the cotton reels in a circle shape.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57And this big one is made by using lots of cotton reels,

0:04:57 > 0:05:00and lots of different coloured wool.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03And talking of lots and lots of wool,

0:05:03 > 0:05:06where did I put all that wool from earlier?

0:05:06 > 0:05:08Oh! Ha-ha! There it is!

0:05:09 > 0:05:11- BAA! - Ha-ha!

0:05:11 > 0:05:14- SNORING - Oh, what's that noise? It's a...

0:05:14 > 0:05:17Ah, it's coming from the shelves. Come on!

0:05:18 > 0:05:22It's the Shapes. They're asleep again.

0:05:22 > 0:05:23Let's wake them up!

0:05:26 > 0:05:28SNUFFLING

0:05:28 > 0:05:30Oh, oh.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32CIRCLE GIGGLES

0:05:32 > 0:05:34THEY ALL SHOUT

0:05:36 > 0:05:38ALL: Whee!

0:05:44 > 0:05:45# I am a shape

0:05:45 > 0:05:46# La, la, la, la

0:05:48 > 0:05:50# I am a shape

0:05:50 > 0:05:51# La, la, la, la

0:05:53 > 0:05:55# I am a circle

0:05:58 > 0:06:00# I am a triangle

0:06:03 > 0:06:05# I am a square

0:06:08 > 0:06:10# I am a rectangle

0:06:13 > 0:06:14# I am a shape

0:06:16 > 0:06:19# I am a triangle. #

0:06:21 > 0:06:24What are the triangles making today?

0:06:28 > 0:06:30Can you guess?

0:06:33 > 0:06:34It's a cockerel!

0:06:34 > 0:06:38Well done, triangle. Time to get back on the shelf!

0:06:38 > 0:06:40ALL: Whee!

0:06:40 > 0:06:42LAUGHTER

0:06:42 > 0:06:44ALL: Oh, oh, oh.

0:06:49 > 0:06:50SNORING

0:06:50 > 0:06:54Ho-ho, now, that was a puzzling puzzle, wasn't it?

0:06:54 > 0:06:55CLATTERING

0:06:55 > 0:06:58Tocky here! Minute Make Time!

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Oh, great! It's Minute Make Time!

0:07:04 > 0:07:06Here's what we're going to make.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09A clacker drum!

0:07:09 > 0:07:11It's great fun, look!

0:07:13 > 0:07:16Hee-hee! And to make one, you will need...

0:07:16 > 0:07:21some sticky tape, a pencil, an empty cheese box -

0:07:21 > 0:07:23you need one with a lid, like that.

0:07:23 > 0:07:28A piece of string - that's got to be twice the length of your cheese box.

0:07:28 > 0:07:32You need a ball of sticky tack,

0:07:32 > 0:07:34and two large beads.

0:07:34 > 0:07:38Do you think it's possible to make this in just one minute?

0:07:38 > 0:07:42- No way!- I can't believe you're saying that, Tocky.

0:07:42 > 0:07:46I think I can do it! Although I will have to move very quickly.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50Don't worry though, I'll remind you how to do it at the end.

0:07:50 > 0:07:54- Let's make it in a minute! - Start the clock!

0:07:54 > 0:07:57Let's go! Let's get our box, and a pencil,

0:07:57 > 0:08:01and, very carefully, push to make a hole with the pencil,

0:08:01 > 0:08:04then get our ball of tack, squidge it in place,

0:08:04 > 0:08:08so the pencil stays firm. Put the lid back on like that.

0:08:08 > 0:08:09Lay our string

0:08:09 > 0:08:14on top. We can stick that in position with some tape,

0:08:14 > 0:08:16right across the middle, there.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18Let's get one of our beads,

0:08:18 > 0:08:21and feed it onto one end, there we go.

0:08:21 > 0:08:26Then tie a knot...there we are.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29Let's do the same on the other side.

0:08:29 > 0:08:31There's the other bead. Like this.

0:08:31 > 0:08:33Let's feed it on here.

0:08:33 > 0:08:38Through it goes, like that. Go on, through you go!

0:08:38 > 0:08:39There we are.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42Let's tie a knot on this end as well.

0:08:42 > 0:08:43And once I've done that...

0:08:43 > 0:08:46Get a move on!

0:08:46 > 0:08:48I'm going as fast as I can, Tocky!

0:08:48 > 0:08:51There's the other knot, and I have done it!

0:08:51 > 0:08:53Woo!

0:08:53 > 0:08:55Only just!

0:08:55 > 0:09:00Yes, and if you've got more than a minute, you can decorate your drum!

0:09:00 > 0:09:05Look at this one here. It's got a circle of paper on each side.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09In fact, you can make all sorts of clacker drums in the same way.

0:09:09 > 0:09:10Oooh!

0:09:12 > 0:09:15This one's painted with a swirly pattern.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18Ho-ho!

0:09:18 > 0:09:22Look at this brightly-coloured clacker drum with lots of beads!

0:09:22 > 0:09:26Clacker drums made in a minute! Why don't you make one?

0:09:26 > 0:09:29Here's a reminder of how to do it.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32Let's go back to the beginning and take another look.

0:09:34 > 0:09:38Push a hole in the side of a cheese box with a pencil,

0:09:38 > 0:09:41and hold it steady with sticky tack.

0:09:41 > 0:09:42Put the lid back on,

0:09:42 > 0:09:45and tape the string across the middle.

0:09:45 > 0:09:49Tie a bead to both ends of the string to finish your drum!

0:09:53 > 0:09:57Why don't you try and make it in a minute? Ha-ha!

0:09:57 > 0:10:00ALL: Hello, Mister Maker!

0:10:00 > 0:10:03ALL: Guess what we're making today?

0:10:03 > 0:10:06I don't know. Why don't you tell us?

0:10:06 > 0:10:08CHILDREN LAUGH

0:10:12 > 0:10:14I'm dark blue.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17I'm grey.

0:10:26 > 0:10:27I am green.

0:10:33 > 0:10:35I am brown.

0:10:40 > 0:10:41I am black.

0:10:49 > 0:10:52ALL: It's a koala bear!

0:10:52 > 0:10:54Well done, everyone! See you soon!

0:10:54 > 0:10:56Now it's time to frame it!

0:10:57 > 0:10:59Frame it!

0:11:00 > 0:11:01Frame it!

0:11:03 > 0:11:05Now, take a look at this.

0:11:07 > 0:11:12What a brilliant picture, made by drawing in paint on shiny paper.

0:11:12 > 0:11:16It's very easy to do, and looks so good, you'll be able to frame it.

0:11:16 > 0:11:20You will need some card, shiny silver paper,

0:11:20 > 0:11:24a pencil with a rubber at the end, glue, paint, and a paintbrush.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28First, stick a piece of shiny paper to some card.

0:11:28 > 0:11:33Then cover the shiny paper in dark-coloured paint.

0:11:36 > 0:11:41Now, draw in the wet paint using the rubber at the end of the pencil,

0:11:41 > 0:11:43making sure you press down firmly.

0:11:43 > 0:11:48You can draw whatever you like, but this is going to be a truck.

0:11:48 > 0:11:52Start off at the front of the truck, add a window,

0:11:52 > 0:11:56and a wheel, then at the back of the truck,

0:11:56 > 0:11:58add two more wheels.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Add some details...

0:12:04 > 0:12:07and go over all the lines again.

0:12:09 > 0:12:13And when it's dry, you can see the shiny paper through the paint!

0:12:13 > 0:12:17What a brilliant picture! Why don't you have a go?

0:12:17 > 0:12:19And then...frame it!

0:12:20 > 0:12:22ENGINE STARTS

0:12:22 > 0:12:25- Isn't that effective? - HORN BLARES

0:12:26 > 0:12:29And now for a messy picture! Watch this.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38What do you think it is?

0:12:43 > 0:12:44It's a squirrel!

0:12:44 > 0:12:46Oh, ho-ho!

0:12:46 > 0:12:51Fantastic! Now, what's happening here?

0:12:52 > 0:12:54HE LAUGHS

0:12:54 > 0:12:59Don't mind me, I'm just practising my silly faces! Look at this.

0:13:01 > 0:13:02HE LAUGHS

0:13:02 > 0:13:07Oh, that's a really good one. Can you make silly faces? Go on.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10Pull a funny face - the sillier the better. Go on.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13Brilliant! Ha-ha! That was a very funny face.

0:13:13 > 0:13:18And all of our funny, silly faces have given me a great idea.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21- DING! - Let's make something!

0:13:21 > 0:13:25Make a funny face of your own, like this great gargoyle

0:13:25 > 0:13:27that you can stick on your wall or door.

0:13:27 > 0:13:32Let's make it! We'll need some things from the Doodle Drawers.

0:13:34 > 0:13:38A paper plate and an old newspaper.

0:13:40 > 0:13:44Some scraps of cardboard, some gloopy PVA glue,

0:13:44 > 0:13:46and some sticky tape.

0:13:48 > 0:13:50And some paint.

0:13:51 > 0:13:52Oh-ho!

0:13:52 > 0:13:58Now, we also need some play sand, which you can find in a toyshop.

0:13:58 > 0:13:59I'll be back in a tick.

0:14:01 > 0:14:03CAR ENGINE, BRAKES SCREECH

0:14:03 > 0:14:04I've got it!

0:14:06 > 0:14:08Here it is, our play sand.

0:14:10 > 0:14:11Now, take a look

0:14:11 > 0:14:15at this gargoyle. A gargoyle is a funny creature

0:14:15 > 0:14:17made out of stone,

0:14:17 > 0:14:21that you might find on the front of an old building.

0:14:21 > 0:14:25To make one, you need to start with its mouth, and for that,

0:14:25 > 0:14:28we need a sheet of newspaper,

0:14:28 > 0:14:31and we're going to roll it up like this.

0:14:31 > 0:14:34Then we're going to give it a twist,

0:14:34 > 0:14:36and stick it together with tape.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44Now, we're going to bend it

0:14:44 > 0:14:50around into a loop shape, and stick this together with more tape.

0:14:54 > 0:14:56And then give it a squeeze...

0:14:56 > 0:14:58into a mouth shape.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01We need to bring in

0:15:01 > 0:15:04our paper plate, and turn it

0:15:04 > 0:15:06upside down -

0:15:06 > 0:15:08this will be the face.

0:15:08 > 0:15:12Let's put on our mouth, and stick it into position.

0:15:18 > 0:15:19Great!

0:15:19 > 0:15:24Now, to make a nose, we get another piece of newspaper,

0:15:24 > 0:15:28and scrunch it up into a sort of pear shape.

0:15:36 > 0:15:38Tape it together...

0:15:38 > 0:15:40and stick it in the middle of the face!

0:15:43 > 0:15:48Now we can roll up two small balls of newspaper for nostrils.

0:15:50 > 0:15:53Then we can tape them either side of the nose.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58Now, for the eyes,

0:15:58 > 0:16:02use half a sheet of paper to make thinner twists -

0:16:02 > 0:16:03let's roll it up.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06And again, we can use some sticky tape

0:16:06 > 0:16:07to hold it in position.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16We can loop it round...

0:16:19 > 0:16:21You can always tear off a bit

0:16:21 > 0:16:24of the loop to make your eyes smaller.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26Then stick it together.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29Now, I'm going to put it...

0:16:32 > 0:16:36..here, next to the nose.

0:16:36 > 0:16:38We need a pupil in the middle. So...

0:16:38 > 0:16:40we need to scrunch up a ball

0:16:40 > 0:16:43from a smaller piece of newspaper,

0:16:43 > 0:16:46and that goes in the middle of the eye shape.

0:16:46 > 0:16:48Then do the same on the other side.

0:16:49 > 0:16:52He looks very silly, doesn't he?

0:16:52 > 0:16:54Now we can add some extra detail

0:16:54 > 0:16:59by cutting out some cardboard squares for gargoyle teeth,

0:16:59 > 0:17:03maybe some cardboard triangles for ears.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06Be careful though - scissors are sharp!

0:17:06 > 0:17:08Oh-ho!

0:17:08 > 0:17:10Here are my scissors.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13Here's my cardboard. Start with the teeth.

0:17:13 > 0:17:15Now, cutting cardboard

0:17:15 > 0:17:17can be a bit fiddly,

0:17:17 > 0:17:22so it might be a good idea to ask an adult to help you. Then,

0:17:22 > 0:17:25you can place them onto your gargoyle face,

0:17:25 > 0:17:28and do the same with two cardboard ears,

0:17:28 > 0:17:31and stick it all down... Great!

0:17:31 > 0:17:33Now comes the messy bit.

0:17:33 > 0:17:35Put your gargoyle on an old tray.

0:17:39 > 0:17:43We're going to cover the whole thing in a layer of gloopy glue.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51OK. Now, we need to be quick about this,

0:17:51 > 0:17:53we don't want the glue to dry.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56Sprinkle play sand all over it.

0:17:59 > 0:18:02Then, shake off the extra sand...

0:18:02 > 0:18:04and leave it to dry. Now...

0:18:04 > 0:18:07you can paint it a nice grey colour,

0:18:07 > 0:18:12add some white highlights and use black paint for the darker details.

0:18:17 > 0:18:19And there it is,

0:18:19 > 0:18:22your very own funny gargoyle!

0:18:22 > 0:18:25And you can make lots of different gargoyle faces.

0:18:25 > 0:18:29This one's got big ears and extra green paint,

0:18:29 > 0:18:33to look like there's moss growing on it. Or how about

0:18:33 > 0:18:36doing a big gargoyle with a sticking-out tongue?

0:18:36 > 0:18:40All of them are brilliant funny faces! Ha-ha!

0:18:40 > 0:18:45Excuse me... Well, I think you've got a very funny face too!
