:00:24. > :00:32.Great to have your company for another packed

:00:33. > :00:35.Kickabout. Here is what we've got

:00:36. > :00:36.lined up for you today. Best behaviour everyone,

:00:37. > :00:39.the referees are in town.

:00:40. > :00:44.We hear from legendary ref Howard Webb and we've got a great

:00:45. > :00:47.game lined up so you can be a referee from your sofa.

:00:48. > :00:52.I went to Barnsley FC to meet their resident

:00:53. > :00:55.poet. We filmed his repartie and today

:00:56. > :00:57.we're going to show it! And of course, we look

:00:58. > :01:04.forward to this weekend's fab fixtures and show off

:01:05. > :01:08.a few more of your brilliant skills. Oh I say, pick that one out.

:01:09. > :01:09.All that coming up and more so don't go

:01:10. > :01:12.anywhere. We kick off with the stories making

:01:13. > :01:17.the footie news this week.

:01:18. > :01:20.It is time for Headline Hitters. Imagine turning up to play against

:01:21. > :01:24.Leicester De Montfort University University

:01:25. > :01:25.last week only to find you're facing former Manchester

:01:26. > :01:28.United star Park Ji-sung. The one time South Korean captain

:01:29. > :01:33.is studying management, but sadly his team

:01:34. > :01:36.couldn't manage a win. No one likes to miss watching

:01:37. > :01:39.their football team play, but five-year-old Celtic

:01:40. > :01:44.play Lewis took things to a new level.

:01:45. > :01:45.Unable to attend the match versus Motherwell

:01:46. > :01:48.last weekend due to his friend's birthday

:01:49. > :01:50.party he phoned Celtic to apologise that he wouldn't be there.

:01:51. > :01:51.That's dedication. Apparently the party

:01:52. > :01:58.was pretty great though. And there was no bravo

:01:59. > :02:07.for Manchester City in the Champions League.

:02:08. > :02:10.The former Barca keeper had a shocker and got sent

:02:11. > :02:12.off and Lionel Messi scored his 37th hat-trick.

:02:13. > :02:14.But there was a solid draw for Tottenham.

:02:15. > :02:17.A great win for Leicester and a stonking 6-0 for

:02:18. > :02:23.Arsenal. But that wasn't the only

:02:24. > :02:27.Cup action this week. The FA Cup first round draw took

:02:28. > :02:29.place and the old magic is as strong as ever.

:02:30. > :02:31.I can't wait to see Merstone take on Oxford United.

:02:32. > :02:37.For me FA Cup fairytales are as exciting as the Champions League and

:02:38. > :02:41.talking of champions in the week that our Olympic and Paralympic

:02:42. > :02:46.heroes paraded through Manchester and London, here is Gold Medallist

:02:47. > :02:57.Jade Jones with her dream five aside team. Hi, I'm Jade Jones. This is my

:02:58. > :03:02.dream team. For the goalkeeper I'm going to go

:03:03. > :03:09.with myself just so I can do loads of kicks and different types of kick

:03:10. > :03:14.to kick it aafrom the goal. In defence I'm going to go for Beckham.

:03:15. > :03:24.He is an old legend and it would be good to have him on the team. My

:03:25. > :03:28.first mid-fielder would have to be Gareth Bale. Being from Wales and

:03:29. > :03:39.him being a Welsh legend, it would just have to be him!

:03:40. > :03:47.Alongside him in mid-field it would have to be Messi. He is an amazing

:03:48. > :03:50.footballer and he is great to watch. Upfront because I'm a big Manchester

:03:51. > :04:08.United fan, it would have to be Wayne Rooney.

:04:09. > :04:13.And that's my dream five aside team. Can she kick it? Yes, she can.

:04:14. > :04:19.Beckham in defence though. Thanks, Jade. If you employed your high feet

:04:20. > :04:23.on the pitch you would be having words with this man. He rev Rio

:04:24. > :04:30.Ferdinand a World Cup final don't you know.

:04:31. > :04:34.-- he refereed a World Cup final, don't you know.

:04:35. > :04:38.When I was a young guy I had no ambition to become a football

:04:39. > :04:41.referee. When I was eight or nine I wanted to be a proffal footballer

:04:42. > :04:46.like so many of my friends and like so many kids these days. It was my

:04:47. > :04:51.dad who just asked me one day when I was about 16 or 17, he said,

:04:52. > :04:55."Howard, you're not going to make it it as a footballer, have you thought

:04:56. > :04:59.about becoming a football referee?" At 18 I became a football referee.

:05:00. > :05:05.It was the first step that took me to some amazing places in world

:05:06. > :05:09.football. I was dealing with some strong characters so I had to

:05:10. > :05:12.develop my own personality to be able to manage players and

:05:13. > :05:15.communicate to them. I had to work hard at my fitness levels because

:05:16. > :05:19.you need to be in the right place at the right time to make the right

:05:20. > :05:26.decisions. I had to train and think about what I ate and drank to make

:05:27. > :05:30.sure I was fit enough for the job. One of the hardest things about

:05:31. > :05:34.being a referee is accepting from time to time you'll make a mistake

:05:35. > :05:38.and coping with that mistake. For any young person who is thinking

:05:39. > :05:41.about becoming a referee one of the certainties is you'll make some

:05:42. > :05:46.mistakes. It is inevitable and you have to learn from those and bounce

:05:47. > :05:50.back from them and understand that the will probably make you a better

:05:51. > :05:54.referee. At least ten times in my career I've come home from games and

:05:55. > :05:59.threw my bag into the corner and thought that was a tough game, I'm

:06:00. > :06:03.packing it in. And when I stood in the tunnel about to take charge of

:06:04. > :06:06.the World Cup final between Spain and the Netherlands and South Africa

:06:07. > :06:10.I was glad I picked my bag up each time and gun out and refereed again

:06:11. > :06:14.because if I left it on the floor of the kitchen and never gone back for

:06:15. > :06:18.it again, I would have been watching the World Cup final on TV instead of

:06:19. > :06:23.being a part of this amazing sporting spectacle. Determination

:06:24. > :06:29.and self-belief, it is so, so important for referees to survive in

:06:30. > :06:33.a challenging environment. I would encourage young people to take up

:06:34. > :06:37.refereeing because it helps you develop as a person. It gives you

:06:38. > :06:41.the opportunity to make it to the top of the game. To share the pitch

:06:42. > :06:46.with some of the greaters players in world football. It gives you the

:06:47. > :06:52.best place in the house. I a shared a witch a Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis

:06:53. > :06:56.Suarez and I would be on the same pitch as them. It gives you some

:06:57. > :07:05.great opportunities to make it to the top. What a great story. Thanks,

:07:06. > :07:09.Howard. I wonder if that's got you thinking about taking up one of the

:07:10. > :07:13.toughest jobs on the pitch? Well, I'm joined by two rising stars that

:07:14. > :07:19.are ready for that challenge. Yasmin and Jacob. Welcome to Kickabout.

:07:20. > :07:24.Great to see you. I want to come to you Jacob. How did you get into

:07:25. > :07:28.refereeing? My interest from refereeing came from my dad. He is a

:07:29. > :07:34.Football League official. From a young age I went to the game and

:07:35. > :07:39.when I hit 14 I got on the referees course and I've enjoyed my

:07:40. > :07:42.experience so far. Yasmin, I know you're older, you're 18. Tell us

:07:43. > :07:47.what are the skills that make a good referee? Communication stills, time

:07:48. > :07:50.management skills, dealing with players because you can be dealing

:07:51. > :07:54.with difficult people and also your fitness, that's a really key

:07:55. > :07:58.element. Guys, it is time for us to put those skills to the test. Are

:07:59. > :08:02.you ready? Yes. Great stuff and remember you guys can play along at

:08:03. > :08:12.home too. Here is Man City versus Tottenham. The score is nil-nil as

:08:13. > :08:16.we join the action. Jacob, what are you looking for in this situation?

:08:17. > :08:20.Firstly, it is Sterling's arm position whether it is in a natural

:08:21. > :08:23.position or he has moved it in the way of the ball. It is quite a tight

:08:24. > :08:27.one. Even before that, looking whether he is inside the box or not

:08:28. > :08:33.to determine whether it is a free kick or a penalty. For me, that

:08:34. > :08:37.isn't a penalty. I don't think it is a deliberate handball. So Yasmin

:08:38. > :08:43.positioning is important. What would you say in regards to that? You need

:08:44. > :08:49.to get the right angle. Penalty or no penalty? No penalty. No penalty

:08:50. > :08:57.from both of our referees in the studio. I wonder what you think.

:08:58. > :09:02.Shall we reveal what Mark Clattenburg did? He disagrees. He

:09:03. > :09:06.has given the penalty. He doesn't have the benefit of watching it on

:09:07. > :09:12.replay. He has only seen it in the game. From this angle, it looks like

:09:13. > :09:16.it is his back a bit. It shouldn't have been a penalty, should it? It

:09:17. > :09:23.is a big decision. It just shows you that positioning is everything in

:09:24. > :09:26.refereeing. Here is Bournemouth versus Norwich on January. The score

:09:27. > :09:31.is 1-0 to Bournemouth and they are on the attack again. See what you

:09:32. > :09:35.make of it at home. Oh dear. That looked a bit rash,

:09:36. > :09:39.didn't it. Yasmin, what kind of rules are you going to apply to a

:09:40. > :09:43.situation like this? There is two covering defenders. Here I would be

:09:44. > :09:47.giving a free kick because it is outside the area and then I'd be

:09:48. > :09:54.looking at a yellow card. A yellow card from Yasmin. Jacob, you heard

:09:55. > :09:59.what Yasmin thinks? I don't think he is denying a goal scoring, I would

:10:00. > :10:03.give a red card for foul play. I wonder what you're thinking at home.

:10:04. > :10:09.Let's see what referee Robert Madeley thought in the match. He

:10:10. > :10:15.said yellow card and free kick I guess. So this in that situation,

:10:16. > :10:17.Yasmin you got it right, but again, refereeing is all about

:10:18. > :10:23.interpretation of the game, isn't it? Thank you so much for coming in

:10:24. > :10:27.both of you, I really hope to see you on our screens one day as some

:10:28. > :10:32.of the Premier League's top referees. It is a reminder as to why

:10:33. > :10:37.we need to respect our referees. Without them, no one would get to

:10:38. > :10:41.enjoy the game. And you wouldn't get a chance to bring these silky skills

:10:42. > :10:46.from the park to the pitch. Check them out! George with some very

:10:47. > :10:53.impressive ball juggling skills. Look at the precision and control

:10:54. > :10:57.there. And bang. Into the net and George knows how to celebrate too.

:10:58. > :11:02.Next up, this is James with some more silky skills. He has got the

:11:03. > :11:08.flick ups down to a T. Over the head and rolled into the net and if that

:11:09. > :11:13.wasn't enough, he pulls up for dad for good measure. Here is Ted can

:11:14. > :11:20.ridiculous schools. They are next level and a perfect volley to boot.

:11:21. > :11:25.Marvellous stuff. Please keep them coming in. Football is the beautiful

:11:26. > :11:30.game and an art form in its own right. It can make us feel on top of

:11:31. > :11:35.the world or down in the dumps, have you thought how you would put those

:11:36. > :11:40.feelings into words? When we found out that Barnsley FC had their own

:11:41. > :11:46.official poet I had to go and meet him. What a place. Bringing me step.

:11:47. > :11:51.Smile on me face. East and west stand, dugout, goal. Pride of a

:11:52. > :11:56.town, that's built on coal. West stand, east stand, penalty spot, you

:11:57. > :12:00.want excitement, we've got the lot. East stand, west stand, Popbty end,

:12:01. > :12:07.follow this team and you get a blend of ups and downs and ups. Relegation

:12:08. > :12:13.or FA Cup. West stand, east stand, red and white, everything is going

:12:14. > :12:19.to be all right! Six goal thriller, nil-nil draw. Their keeper is a

:12:20. > :12:22.spiller. Come on just score. Been here for more than 100 years.

:12:23. > :12:29.Full-time elation, half-time tears. It fills me to bursting with pride

:12:30. > :12:35.and glee to follow my team, Barnsley FC.

:12:36. > :12:41.Welcome to Kickabout. You're sat in your actual seat? This is my seat I

:12:42. > :12:48.sit here once a fortnight for the last 20 years. It is not dull being

:12:49. > :12:52.a Barnsley fan. It is never boring. You're Barnsley's official poet?

:12:53. > :12:56.Yes, when we got promoted to the Premier League in 1997, I rang them

:12:57. > :13:02.up and said do you fancy having a poet? They said will it cost us

:13:03. > :13:07.anything? I said I would do it for free. We'll score and somebody will

:13:08. > :13:11.lean over and will say, "You'll write a poem about that." You can

:13:12. > :13:18.see farce and you can see drama and it is like art and I wish more

:13:19. > :13:22.poetry was like football and I wish more football was like poetry. What

:13:23. > :13:28.are your tips? Write about what you like. If you like going to football,

:13:29. > :13:31.write about football. If you like collecting things, write about what

:13:32. > :13:37.you collect. Once you start writing about it then the passion you feel

:13:38. > :13:41.for that will come through. The great thing about poetry you can't

:13:42. > :13:46.get it wrong. I can write what you want. You say write about what you

:13:47. > :13:49.know, Ian and I know very well how to be a manager at a fake football

:13:50. > :13:53.game and I've written a poem about it, would you like to see? Yes,

:13:54. > :13:58.please. Excellent. Listen up boys what I want you to do is feed off

:13:59. > :14:04.this noise and forget four, four, two. Make use of the flanks, play it

:14:05. > :14:08.out wide. The linesman is a plank. We were never offside. Start

:14:09. > :14:13.pressing them high. Next week I'm going to buy a better attacker.

:14:14. > :14:17.We've overcommitted, the system is flawed. Our team has been out witted

:14:18. > :14:26.for positions scored. The defence is a mess. I'm wasting my time. It is

:14:27. > :14:33.giving me stress all this! What a lovely fella. Thank you so

:14:34. > :14:38.Ian and to Barnsley FC and if football and words are what you

:14:39. > :14:43.like, why not have a go at writing a poem of your own? When you're done

:14:44. > :14:50.we'd love to read thesmt get online and send us your rhymes on the CBBC

:14:51. > :14:55.website. Your words might feature on the show. You can watch my poem for

:14:56. > :14:59.Leeds on there too. That's just about it for Kickabout this week,

:15:00. > :15:04.but before we go, let's take a look at this weekend's fixtures and look

:15:05. > :15:08.at that one at the bottom. Sunday's clash between Chelsea and Manchester

:15:09. > :15:12.United has got to be my picked. Jose Mourinho's return to Stamford Bridge

:15:13. > :15:13.could be a cracker. I can't wait. See
