0:02:33 > 0:02:37liked nothing better than watching him as he worked.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40He found it such fun that he decided he wanted to become

0:02:40 > 0:02:45a car mechanic when he grew up. And that is exactly what he did.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49He went to a special mechanic school just like this one,

0:02:49 > 0:02:53where we can see young mechanics being trained how to fix cars.

0:02:53 > 0:02:59When Daddy Gordon was a mechanic, it was his job to mend broken cars

0:02:59 > 0:03:02and to check that they were safe to drive.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07When he's not working, he loves building things.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Jack and Ben have lots of different toys

0:04:22 > 0:04:26Watch out for that camera, Jack! Ooh! Too late.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29Don't worry, Jack, the camera is fine.

0:04:42 > 0:04:46Jack, Ben and Daddy Gordon are not the only ones

0:04:46 > 0:04:51who love speeding around and playing at racing drivers.

0:04:51 > 0:04:55Even in the olden days, people just loved cars and racing.

0:04:55 > 0:05:00Look at this old film of boys racing go-karts. Doesn't it look like fun?

0:05:00 > 0:05:04And to this day, go-karting is still a popular sport.

0:05:04 > 0:05:09Daddy Gordon has a great idea. They can build something together.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11But what can it be?

0:05:11 > 0:05:15I love fixing and building things. You know what we should do?

0:05:15 > 0:05:19- What?- We should build a kart and put a trailer on the back.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22Would you like that? Know what we have to do first?

0:05:22 > 0:05:26We have to draw it and see what it's going to look like.

0:05:26 > 0:05:30Will that do? Right, here's your pencil. And there's your pencil.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34You draw the kart and Jack draw the trailer.

0:05:34 > 0:05:38Wow, getting to design your own kart. That is special.

0:05:38 > 0:05:40And they look so busy!

0:05:46 > 0:05:51Nice work, Jack. Ben, that looks amazing.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00But building a kart is a lot of work, even for this team.

0:06:00 > 0:06:03Perhaps Grandad Sammy can help.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10This is my Grandad, he's funny.

0:06:19 > 0:06:24Grandad Sammy is a carpenter and he can make lots of things out of wood.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27Look, he's cutting wood for the boys' kart.

0:06:27 > 0:06:29When Daddy Gordon was younger,

0:06:29 > 0:06:32he used to help Grandad Sammy to make things.

0:06:35 > 0:06:39Grandad Sammy did a great job cutting the wood to size.

0:06:39 > 0:06:44When the bits are joined together it will look like Ben's drawing.

0:06:45 > 0:06:49We're going to build the kart with a trailer

0:06:49 > 0:06:51- on the back of it. What do you reckon?- Yeah.

0:06:51 > 0:06:55- Want to use the tools?- Yeah. - What's this one?

0:07:10 > 0:07:13It goes on there like that.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21What's all the glass in there for?

0:07:21 > 0:07:25We'll have to watch that, won't we?

0:07:25 > 0:07:28Can I have the screwdriver, please?

0:07:28 > 0:07:32- Right, will Daddy start them and you finish them?- Yep.

0:07:34 > 0:07:38Using the tools from Daddy Gordon's old toolbox,

0:07:38 > 0:07:41the boys will soon fix all these bits together.

0:07:41 > 0:07:45- Can I have the big screwdriver? - You can do that after.

0:07:45 > 0:07:49You screw in this one, Ben screw in the next one. All right, Ben?

0:09:22 > 0:09:25- Are we ready to paint?- Yes. - Let's go.

0:09:25 > 0:09:29Now the kart is built, it's time for the boys to paint it.

0:09:29 > 0:09:33Whoa, this could get messy.

0:09:33 > 0:09:38The kart is going to be very bright and colourful.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58But now Daddy Gordon has a new job.

0:10:58 > 0:11:02He's no longer a mechanic fixing cars, he's a lorry driver.

0:11:02 > 0:11:06He drives big trucks all over Northern Ireland.

0:11:06 > 0:11:10Driving a truck is a lot harder than driving a car,

0:11:10 > 0:11:14so Daddy Gordon had to have special training just like in this

0:11:14 > 0:11:19old film where we can see the trainee truck drivers learning the rules.

0:11:19 > 0:11:24Once they've passed the test, they're ready to take to the roads.

0:11:30 > 0:11:35For Daddy Gordon, driving trucks is his job. But it's also his hobby,

0:11:35 > 0:11:38so he's taking the boys to a car and truck festival.

0:11:38 > 0:11:42It's a chance to see really old trucks from years gone by.

0:11:42 > 0:11:48They all love looking at big, fancy, new trucks, and here's an old one.

0:11:48 > 0:11:53- What do you think of that, boys? - Good.- That's a really old one.

0:11:53 > 0:11:57- Is that like the one Daddy drives? - Yep.- Is not!- No.

0:11:57 > 0:12:01- You know something?- What? - That's older than Grandad Sammy.

0:12:01 > 0:12:03- Is it?- Hm-hm.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09When Daddy Gordon was younger, he used to have a trike

0:12:09 > 0:12:13a bit like this one and Jack's pretending to drive it!

0:12:16 > 0:12:19And their kart is the star attraction.

0:12:30 > 0:12:35After a busy time at the truck festival, they are now back home.

0:12:35 > 0:12:38And Jack's ready to play on the kart again.

0:12:38 > 0:12:42- Thanks, Dad, for making us a great kart.- You're welcome.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45And we have to thank Grandad Sammy for cutting the wood

0:12:45 > 0:12:50and drilling the wood. What was the best part of making the go-kart?

0:12:50 > 0:12:54- Painting it.- Painting it? What about you, Jack?

0:12:54 > 0:12:59- Painting it, as well?- No.- No? And what's your favourite toy, now?

0:13:31 > 0:13:34Guys!

0:13:40 > 0:13:43What a fabulous heap of fun.

0:13:43 > 0:13:47That was Jack, Ben and their Daddy Gordon's tiny tale

0:13:47 > 0:13:52about the things Daddy Gordon used to do and why he has an old toolbox.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56Now Daddy Gordon has shared his story with Jack and Ben,

0:13:56 > 0:14:00it's time for them to start their own stories.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03Do you know someone who has a story to share?
