0:02:13 > 0:02:15but it feels so far away,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18because you go on the boat and go across the water.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22You feel as though you're miles away from anywhere.

0:02:22 > 0:02:27When we were wee, myself and my brothers, it was way before people

0:04:04 > 0:04:08There's the paddles, through the window.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11Can you count them as they're going round?

0:04:11 > 0:04:14The engine moves the big paddles round and round,

0:04:14 > 0:04:17pushing the boat through the water.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30And here they are in Millport.

0:04:56 > 0:05:00people didn't fly to holidays in different countries.

0:05:00 > 0:05:05Nearly everybody stayed at home. They took boats and trains instead

0:05:05 > 0:05:10and went to the beaches and countryside near where they lived.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13For Grampa Dougie, it was holidaying in Millport.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16Many others in Scotland left the big cities

0:05:16 > 0:05:20and took the train to board other boats

0:05:20 > 0:05:24to other holiday towns. If the sun shone, that was great.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27But even in the rain, everybody had fun.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50Look, here he is as a young man on holiday.

0:06:00 > 0:06:05This is a house where I used to come when I was a wee boy for my holidays.
