0:00:55 > 0:01:01Well, I used to listen to my music on a record player when I was small.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10The Shetland Islands is a group of islands in the sea,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16It's a nice place to live.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Surrounded by sea.

0:02:19 > 0:02:21Lots of animals.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25Plenty of fresh air.

0:02:25 > 0:02:30And, of course, lovely beaches.

0:02:40 > 0:02:44Well, I started singing when I was really, really young.

0:02:44 > 0:02:49I was about five when my mum got me to sing

0:02:49 > 0:02:52in the hall and in church

0:02:52 > 0:02:57at things that they were putting on in the village.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00This is Granny Freda when she was a young girl.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03And look, she even won a trophy for her singing.

0:03:06 > 0:03:10People would gather together from all around Shetland to sing,

0:03:10 > 0:03:13listen to music and dance. In the olden days,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16they didn't have record players or televisions,

0:03:16 > 0:03:19so they made their own music and still had lots of fun.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22Sometimes they would meet in halls

0:03:22 > 0:03:24or sometimes they would meet in houses.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28It's a bit busy in there.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34They are even on the stairs.

0:03:45 > 0:03:47A lot of people sing and play instruments

0:03:47 > 0:03:49on the island where Cameron lives.

0:04:37 > 0:04:42at night, but my brothers and my dad listened to sport.

0:04:42 > 0:04:46Look at these pictures of families gathered round the radio,

0:04:46 > 0:04:50listening to their favourite shows. Sometimes the shows had music

0:04:50 > 0:04:54playing and sometimes it was just people talking.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56In the old days, the radio was very important.

0:04:56 > 0:04:59There were no televisions,

0:04:59 > 0:05:01so it was a way to find out what was going on.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04How did you listen to music then?

0:05:04 > 0:05:08Well, my mum used to sing to us when we were little and she used to

0:05:08 > 0:05:13sing us songs her dad taught her when she was a little girl like you.

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Everybody can sing, Cameron.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20When I was young, I used to sing with Granny

0:05:20 > 0:05:22and sometimes I'd sing on stage, too.
