0:01:13 > 0:01:17The two-legged race, the sack race, the egg and spoon
0:01:17 > 0:01:19and the running race.
0:01:19 > 0:01:23- What about yours? - Egg and spoon race.- Good girl.
0:01:23 > 0:01:25Did you win the sack race?
0:01:25 > 0:01:29These were at the Ballybogey Olympics.
0:01:29 > 0:01:34And I won a medal, too, way, way back, many years ago.
0:01:34 > 0:01:38It was for the pentathlon, at the Olympics in Munich.
0:01:38 > 0:01:42And the Olympics are in London this year.
0:01:42 > 0:01:45And that was 40 years ago that I won my medal.
0:01:45 > 0:01:49And I wanted to show you some photographs.
0:01:49 > 0:01:53Do you know who's in that photograph, who you know?
0:01:53 > 0:01:58- My granny.- That's Granny Joan. And who's that?- You.- That's right.
0:01:58 > 0:02:01This is even more difficult,
0:02:01 > 0:02:04your granny and I were very young.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11That was the 1970 Commonwealth Games.
0:02:11 > 0:02:16Your granny was a badminton player and I was an athlete.
0:02:16 > 0:02:19And the events that I did were the shot put,
0:02:19 > 0:02:22you see the big ball under my chin.
0:02:22 > 0:02:25And that's the hurdles.
0:02:25 > 0:02:28And that's the high jump.
0:02:28 > 0:02:32And this is me with my brother and my mummy and daddy.
0:02:32 > 0:02:36And now he's 75 and I'm 73.
0:02:36 > 0:02:40Did you win any more medals?
0:02:40 > 0:02:43I won lots. I was an athlete for a long time.
0:02:43 > 0:02:46But because this is Olympic year,
0:02:46 > 0:02:50a lot of people want to see my special medal.
0:02:50 > 0:02:55A little boy said to me recently, "Is it full of chocolate?"
0:02:57 > 0:03:01Mary won her gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1972,
0:03:01 > 0:03:05a long time ago, in Munich, a big city in Germany.
0:03:05 > 0:03:09The Olympic Games is a huge sporting competition,
0:03:09 > 0:03:12with lots of summer and winter sports.
0:03:12 > 0:03:15Many countries come together to compete
0:03:15 > 0:03:19against each other, to see who has the best athletes.
0:03:19 > 0:03:22Mary competed in the pentathlon.
0:03:22 > 0:03:25She did five different sports,
0:03:25 > 0:03:29hurdles, shot put, long jump, high jump and running.
0:03:29 > 0:03:33Look, here she is winning her gold medal!
0:03:37 > 0:03:41Mary did an amazing job winning her Olympic gold medal.
0:03:41 > 0:03:44Now, she's taking Anna and Erin
0:03:44 > 0:03:49back to where her sports story first began, her old school.
0:03:53 > 0:03:57This is my old school, Portadown College.
0:03:57 > 0:04:00I went to school when I was little, here.
0:04:00 > 0:04:03My name is on the board twice - I was head girl,
0:04:03 > 0:04:06and I was hockey captain.
0:04:06 > 0:04:09And I had really happy days at the school.
0:04:09 > 0:04:15The headmaster started me doing athletics but I also played hockey.
0:04:15 > 0:04:18- What was your school like? - It was wonderful.
0:04:18 > 0:04:22It was an older school, but it had the same name,
0:04:22 > 0:04:27and I just loved it because we did athletics, and hockey,
0:04:27 > 0:04:29and drama and all sorts of things.
0:04:29 > 0:04:32I studied hard. I wasn't very bright,
0:04:32 > 0:04:34but I was good at sport.
0:04:34 > 0:04:38- I play hockey.- I've seen you, you're good.
0:04:38 > 0:04:42One day, maybe you'll be on the Olympic team and I'll watch you.
0:04:42 > 0:04:46Shall we go and have a wee practice now?
0:04:46 > 0:04:49They're off to have fun on the hockey pitch.
0:04:49 > 0:04:52When I was little,
0:04:52 > 0:04:55we used to bully-off to start a game.
0:04:55 > 0:05:00You tapped the ground, and hit the stick, ground, stick.
0:05:00 > 0:05:03Do that three times, and then you go.
0:05:03 > 0:05:08- Good girl!- Run, Anna! You need to be quick to beat an Olympic star.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30Next stop, the Sports Institute.
0:05:30 > 0:05:34It's a place where athletes train, and where Anna and Erin
0:05:34 > 0:05:39are going to try out all of Mary's Olympic sports.
0:05:41 > 0:05:45So, we're going to start with some arm stretches.
0:05:45 > 0:05:49Up over your head and round in a big circle.
0:05:49 > 0:05:54Up this way and round in a circle. Can you do it, Erin? Oh, good girl.
0:05:54 > 0:05:58Up, and right round, and back to the middle again.
0:05:58 > 0:06:03Put one foot in front of the other and bend your knee.
0:06:03 > 0:06:05Good. And again.
0:06:05 > 0:06:09And you would do maybe 12 or 15 of these
0:06:09 > 0:06:11and then change over to the other foot.
0:06:11 > 0:06:15And then I want you to put your hands here in front of your body
0:06:15 > 0:06:18and I want you to swing your elbows. That's it.
0:06:18 > 0:06:22And this warms up around your waist, makes you nice and supple.
0:06:22 > 0:06:27I think we nearly ready to try some hurdles. Come on, we'll have a go.

0:08:00 > 0:08:04Now the second event in the pentathlon is called the shot put.
0:08:04 > 0:08:08You don't throw it, you push it from your neck.
0:08:08 > 0:08:12And in competition, you have a full circle but because you're new to it,
0:08:12 > 0:08:15you're just want to do what we call a standing put.
0:08:15 > 0:08:19This is the shot put I used. It weighs four kilos,
0:08:19 > 0:08:21which is very heavy,
0:08:21 > 0:08:24but we've got nice small ones for you.
0:08:24 > 0:08:28What you do is you put your foot against the board like that,
0:08:28 > 0:08:31OK, and put that foot out that way.
0:08:31 > 0:08:36And you push the shot from here, right up into the air. OK?
0:08:36 > 0:08:39So you go... Argh!
0:08:39 > 0:08:44- And that's the way I used to shout when I was putting the shot.- Yay!
0:08:44 > 0:08:48- It made it go further. OK, ready, Erin?- Yeah.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56and go over the bar backwards like this.
0:10:56 > 0:11:00And land on my shoulders. You put your feet on the ground like this.
