0:03:44 > 0:03:49back to where her sports story first began, her old school.

0:03:53 > 0:03:57This is my old school, Portadown College.

0:03:57 > 0:04:00I went to school when I was little, here.

0:04:00 > 0:04:03My name is on the board twice - I was head girl,

0:04:03 > 0:04:06and I was hockey captain.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09And I had really happy days at the school.

0:04:09 > 0:04:15The headmaster started me doing athletics but I also played hockey.

0:04:15 > 0:04:18- What was your school like? - It was wonderful.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22It was an older school, but it had the same name,

0:04:22 > 0:04:27and I just loved it because we did athletics, and hockey,

0:04:27 > 0:04:29and drama and all sorts of things.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32I studied hard. I wasn't very bright,

0:04:32 > 0:04:34but I was good at sport.

0:04:34 > 0:04:38- I play hockey.- I've seen you, you're good.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42One day, maybe you'll be on the Olympic team and I'll watch you.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49They're off to have fun on the hockey pitch.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52When I was little,

0:04:52 > 0:04:55we used to bully-off to start a game.

0:04:55 > 0:05:00You tapped the ground, and hit the stick, ground, stick.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03Do that three times, and then you go.

0:05:03 > 0:05:08- Good girl!- Run, Anna! You need to be quick to beat an Olympic star.

0:05:10 > 0:05:11Oh, close one!

0:05:13 > 0:05:15Anna won!

0:05:15 > 0:05:18Go, Erin! Get that ball!

0:05:18 > 0:05:21She shoots, she scores!

0:05:27 > 0:05:30Next stop, the Sports Institute.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34It's a place where athletes train, and where Anna and Erin

0:05:34 > 0:05:39are going to try out all of Mary's Olympic sports.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45So, we're going to start with some arm stretches.

0:05:45 > 0:05:49Up over your head and round in a big circle.

0:05:49 > 0:05:54Up this way and round in a circle. Can you do it, Erin? Oh, good girl.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58Up, and right round, and back to the middle again.

0:05:58 > 0:06:03Put one foot in front of the other and bend your knee.

0:06:03 > 0:06:05Good. And again.

0:06:05 > 0:06:09And you would do maybe 12 or 15 of these

0:06:09 > 0:06:11and then change over to the other foot.

0:06:11 > 0:06:15And then I want you to put your hands here in front of your body

0:06:15 > 0:06:18and I want you to swing your elbows. That's it.

0:06:18 > 0:06:22And this warms up around your waist, makes you nice and supple.

0:06:22 > 0:06:27I think we nearly ready to try some hurdles. Come on, we'll have a go.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31Let's watch Mary's Olympics hurdles race from a long time ago.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40Get set, go!

0:06:40 > 0:06:45'She needs to get into the low 13s to get a good score.'

0:06:45 > 0:06:47There's Mary in the nearest lane to us

0:06:47 > 0:06:50and she has to jump over ten high hurdles.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53'..As she comes up to take the last hurdle.'

0:06:53 > 0:06:55Well done! She came in second.

0:06:55 > 0:07:00And now it's time for Erin to try the hurdles for the first time.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02Go!

0:07:02 > 0:07:05Good girl, keep going all the way.

0:07:07 > 0:07:13All the way through. Good girl. That was your best by far. Look.

0:07:13 > 0:07:168.75. That's brilliant.

0:07:16 > 0:07:21That's a really fast time for a little girl of your age. Well done.

0:07:21 > 0:07:23BLOWS WHISTLE

0:07:23 > 0:07:27Now it's Anna's turn. And she has bigger hurdles because she's older.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29Go, Anna!

0:07:29 > 0:07:35All the way through. Good girl! Oh, my goodness. 7.25. That's brilliant.

0:07:35 > 0:07:40Look. That's absolutely brilliant for a girl of your age. That's wonderful.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45That was amazing, Anna.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50This is Mary doing the shot put at the Olympic Games.

0:07:50 > 0:07:56She has to push a heavy metal ball as far as she can. Up, up it goes.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59And it's a new world record!

0:08:00 > 0:08:04Now the second event in the pentathlon is called the shot put.

0:08:04 > 0:08:08You don't throw it, you push it from your neck.

0:08:08 > 0:08:12And in competition, you have a full circle but because you're new to it,

0:08:12 > 0:08:15you're just want to do what we call a standing put.

0:08:15 > 0:08:19This is the shot put I used. It weighs four kilos,

0:08:19 > 0:08:21which is very heavy,

0:08:21 > 0:08:24but we've got nice small ones for you.

0:08:24 > 0:08:28What you do is you put your foot against the board like that,

0:08:28 > 0:08:31OK, and put that foot out that way.

0:08:31 > 0:08:36And you push the shot from here, right up into the air. OK?

0:08:36 > 0:08:39So you go... Argh!

0:08:39 > 0:08:44- And that's the way I used to shout when I was putting the shot.- Yay!

0:09:20 > 0:09:23Mary has taught the girls well.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26Here's Mary doing the long jump.

0:09:26 > 0:09:31It's a very fast run up and then she jumps. Wow! That's brilliant!

0:09:31 > 0:09:32So this is the long jump.

0:09:32 > 0:09:37And you run all the way down the path until you hit the board.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41And your toe must not go over that black line.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43You jump in the air as far as you can

0:09:43 > 0:09:46and land with your feet as close together in the sand.

0:09:46 > 0:09:50And then they measure the distance that you have jumped.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53And that's how far I jumped in the long jump.

0:09:53 > 0:09:56It was five metres and 98 centimetres.

0:09:56 > 0:10:00OK, Erin. Are you ready? Ready, steady, go.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05Good girl! All the way. That was brilliant!

0:10:34 > 0:10:37What a star!

0:10:38 > 0:10:41And this is the high jump and this is the height that I jumped

0:10:41 > 0:10:43when I was competing at the Olympics.

0:10:43 > 0:10:49And it's one metre 82, which is high because it's way above my head.

0:10:49 > 0:10:53And I used to run in from the side and jump up

0:10:53 > 0:10:56and go over the bar backwards like this.

0:10:56 > 0:11:00And land on my shoulders. You put your feet on the ground like this.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02You stand up.

0:11:02 > 0:11:04What I want you to do is on the count of three,

0:11:25 > 0:11:30It's Mary's final event in the pentathlon. The running race.

0:11:30 > 0:11:32The Olympic judges have to add up

0:11:32 > 0:11:35all the scores from all the different events

0:11:35 > 0:11:39and the person with the most points wins the gold medal.

0:11:39 > 0:11:40Come on, Mary!
