:00:06. > :00:15.It's Wednesday 1st May. I'm Ricky, and here's what we've got for you
:00:16. > :00:21.this afternoon. I'm Shanaze Reid, join me later to hear why sport's so
:00:21. > :00:25.important. And the rare Fal son chicks who hatched on the ledge of a
:00:25. > :00:28.building. First to Afghanistan and a war that
:00:28. > :00:31.started before many of you were born, and which is still going on
:00:31. > :00:34.now. Three British soldiers and nine Afghans were killed, and six others
:00:34. > :00:38.wounded, when their vehicle was hit by a bomb yesterday in the dangerous
:00:38. > :00:40.area of Helmand. Their families have been told. Prime Minister David
:00:40. > :00:47.Cameron said this morning that it's important that British troops
:00:48. > :00:50.continue to help rebuild the country. We have paid a very high
:00:50. > :00:54.price for the work we are doing in Afghanistan. It is important work,
:00:54. > :00:58.because it is vital that country doesn't again become a haven for
:00:58. > :01:01.terrorists, terrorists that can threaten us here in the UK, but
:01:01. > :01:06.today our thoughts should be with the families and friends of those
:01:07. > :01:10.that have suffer suffered. Britain has been at war in
:01:10. > :01:13.Afghanistan since 2001, and in the years since then, a total of 444
:01:13. > :01:17.British servicemen and women have lost their lives. British troops are
:01:17. > :01:19.set to leave the country by the end of 2014, but as the BBC's defence
:01:19. > :01:22.correspondent Jonathan Beale told us earlier, while some places like the
:01:22. > :01:31.capital city, Kabul, are getting safer, it's not the same story in
:01:31. > :01:35.other areas like Helmand province. There are parts of Afghanistan
:01:35. > :01:39.though that are like the Wild West, where you have to be with soldiers
:01:39. > :01:43.if you want to be safe. The big question of course is what will
:01:44. > :01:49.happen when British, American soldiers leave the country? Will the
:01:50. > :01:52.gapes be able to look after -- will the Afghans will able to look after
:01:52. > :01:55.themselves. We'll have a full report on this
:01:55. > :01:59.story in our later bulletin at 6.50pm, but in the meantime if you
:01:59. > :02:00.want to read more on how the war began and why British troops are
:02:00. > :02:03.there, head to the Newsround website.
:02:03. > :02:06.Next, have your parents ever stopped you from going on the internet
:02:06. > :02:09.because they think you're online too much? If they have, you're not
:02:10. > :02:13.alone. A new survey by the website, Netmums, suggests that three
:02:13. > :02:16.quarters of parents have given their kids limits on the amount of time
:02:16. > :02:19.they spend looking at computer or tablet screens. It also found that,
:02:19. > :02:23.on average, children spend two hours a day online - that's twice as long
:02:23. > :02:33.as parents think they do! Loads of you have been in touch to
:02:33. > :02:46.
:02:46. > :02:48.After last year's summer of sport, how many of you are still at it? A
:02:48. > :02:52.new scheme called the Sported Academy wants more kids from tough
:02:52. > :02:55.backgrounds to take up sports, and to stick with them. We sent Martin
:02:55. > :03:03.to to find out how Olympic BMX legend Shanaze Reade's trying to
:03:03. > :03:06.help young people to turn their lives around, using sport. We are
:03:06. > :03:11.almost nine months on from the London Olympics, how many of you
:03:11. > :03:16.guys have visited a place like this? Part of the Olympic legacy is to
:03:16. > :03:23.make sure kids from all backgrounds are able to get into sports. That's
:03:23. > :03:28.why BMX star Shanaze Reid is launching the Sported Academy.
:03:28. > :03:33.used to be really shy and didn't have much confidence. I've had
:03:33. > :03:37.problems before. Personally I think sport changed my life around.
:03:37. > :03:41.relate to the people on the programme. I came from a
:03:41. > :03:47.disadvantaged background. We didn't have a lot of money but I wanted to
:03:47. > :03:51.be top of the sport. Enough being done to get individuals involved in
:03:51. > :03:57.sport? Definitely. The legacy is starting to show. Some facilities
:03:57. > :04:03.are taking a bit of stick and not being supported in the right way.
:04:03. > :04:07.That's always going to happen. 2012 wasn't like the year I want wanted
:04:07. > :04:10.regardless of the result, getting on the train, going to that Games was
:04:10. > :04:14.something so special you would never forget as a British athlete. My
:04:14. > :04:18.sport is about the Olympics but it is also about many other things.
:04:18. > :04:23.There's the World Cups, the World Championships. I'm looking forward
:04:23. > :04:26.to being as successful as I can be in every bike race that I enter.
:04:26. > :04:31.OK last up, cute alert. Three peregrine falcon chicks have hatched
:04:31. > :04:34.on the ledge of a building belonging to Nottingham Trent University.
:04:34. > :04:37.Experts had been worried about the effect the cold weather might have
:04:37. > :04:41.on the eggs. Peregrine falcons are a rare species, but these parent birds
:04:41. > :04:46.have been laying eggs on the same ledge for the last six years, and
