:00:43. > :00:45.and engineering is pretty exciting, but there aren't that many people

:00:46. > :00:51.So I went to meet space scientist Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock to find out

:00:52. > :00:53.why there are so few people like her in science and

:00:54. > :01:06.Maggie Aderin-Pocock is the expert presenter of the Sky At Night.

:01:07. > :01:10.She is now one of the top space scientists in the country.

:01:11. > :01:12.In our aspiration survey, children from an Asian background were more

:01:13. > :01:17.likely to admire scientists and want to become them than

:01:18. > :01:21.Both black and other ethnic minority students are less likely

:01:22. > :01:27.to do scientific jobs after graduating than white students.

:01:28. > :01:33.She has become famous for her work about space.

:01:34. > :01:36.That is why I have come here to the Mill Hill Observatory in London

:01:37. > :01:41.to find out how Maggie made it to space scientist.

:01:42. > :01:46.We build instruments, machines to go into space.

:01:47. > :01:51.We learn about the planet Earth and the universe around us.

:01:52. > :01:54.In a survey, black students said some of their teachers did not think

:01:55. > :02:03.You feel as if you have been written off.

:02:04. > :02:07.When you feel written off, you act written off.

:02:08. > :02:11.You need to find something to inspire you at school.

:02:12. > :02:16.What do you think needs to be done in the future?

:02:17. > :02:24.People know that black guys don't do science.

:02:25. > :02:33.We need more black role models out there, more black scientist role

:02:34. > :02:36.models out there to show it is quite natural to be a black scientist

:02:37. > :02:40.Maggie wants more children from black backgrounds to look

:02:41. > :02:44.at what she has been doing and take jobs in science.

:02:45. > :02:51.She hopes this will inspire children to see their future in the stars.

:03:22. > :03:25.the first time two sides have fought it out over Scotland's future.

:04:02. > :04:08.English king in one of the most major battles in the country 's

:04:09. > :04:12.history. In September, the people in Scotland will have to vote on

:04:13. > :04:19.whether Scotland should become an independent country or remain part

:04:20. > :04:23.of the UK. I do not want us to go independent. I think it is a great

:04:24. > :04:31.opportunity for Scotland. I do not think we would be able to cope

:04:32. > :04:35.independently. I think it would be fantastic. The people of Scotland

:04:36. > :04:40.are being asked to make a choice. There are many things to influence

:04:41. > :04:44.that decision. Whether or not an independent Scotsman would earn more

:04:45. > :04:48.less money, more employment or a better education and health system.

:04:49. > :04:56.The vote will not just be about politics. " we have voters feel

:04:57. > :05:05.about Scotland. Feel Scottish. I would not say, I am from Britain. I

:05:06. > :05:11.would say I am from Scotland. I feel to show. It is battles like this

:05:12. > :05:16.that have shaped Scotland 's future. It has made me feel proud to be

:05:17. > :05:22.Scottish. Watching the battle made me a lot more proud to be Scottish.

:05:23. > :05:27.I did not know much about Scottish history but now I know more. This

:05:28. > :05:31.battle is one of many important moments in the country 's past. In

:05:32. > :05:34.September, the people of Scotland will place their votes in another

:05:35. > :05:37.event which will once again shaped the country 's future.
