0:00:03 > 0:00:05Hello, I'm Jenny and you are live on CBBC.
0:00:05 > 0:00:08Coming up on Newsround.
0:00:08 > 0:00:11Why this wild cat could make a comeback.
0:00:11 > 0:00:14And the doggie food bank feeding hungry hounds.
0:00:22 > 0:00:25First, it's more than 1,000 years since this wild cat,
0:00:25 > 0:00:28called a lynx, died out in the UK.
0:00:28 > 0:00:30Now there's a new plan to re-introduce them
0:00:30 > 0:00:35into the English countryside, but not everyone's happy about it.
0:00:36 > 0:00:40A bit like a leopard, crossed with a pet cat.
0:00:40 > 0:00:44But there's no way you've seen a lynx wild in the UK.
0:00:44 > 0:00:47That's because they used to be hunted for their beautiful fur
0:00:47 > 0:00:51and became extinct in the UK about 1,300 years ago.
0:00:51 > 0:00:55A group called Lynx UK Trust wants to bring them back.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58They'd like to release six lynx to Kielder Forest in Northumberland
0:00:58 > 0:01:01for a five-year trial and they've been talking to local
0:01:01 > 0:01:05students about it.
0:01:05 > 0:01:09That's actually how big a real-life lynx is.
0:01:09 > 0:01:11Are lynx dangerous to people?
0:01:11 > 0:01:15Lynx live all over the world and in human history a healthy wild
0:01:15 > 0:01:21lynx has never ever ever attacked a human anywhere in the world.
0:01:21 > 0:01:24The Lynx Trust said the cats will help keep the deer population
0:01:24 > 0:01:29down as well as encouraging more tourists to visit the area.
0:01:29 > 0:01:31But sheep farmers disagree.
0:01:31 > 0:01:34They are worried the lynx could be a threat to the sheep.
0:01:34 > 0:01:40I think it's an absolutely stupid idea for a predator that's not been
0:01:40 > 0:01:46in this country for 1,000 years to be released.
0:01:46 > 0:01:50As far as I'm concerned, the lynx will go for the easy target
0:01:50 > 0:01:53which is going to be a sheep and a lamb.
0:01:53 > 0:01:56The decision is now in the hands of a group called Natural England
0:01:56 > 0:01:59and if they say yes it's thought there could be eventually be
0:01:59 > 0:02:05as many as 400 lynx living in forests across the UK.
0:02:05 > 0:02:07A treasure hunter, from Fyfe in Scotland, has made
0:02:07 > 0:02:08a massive discovery.
0:02:08 > 0:02:11David was 14 when he found loads of Roman silver
0:02:11 > 0:02:13with his metal detector.
0:02:13 > 0:02:16Now experts say the pieces are really important,
0:02:16 > 0:02:18because they're thought to be the oldest found outside
0:02:18 > 0:02:20the Roman Empire.
0:02:20 > 0:02:25His find is set to go on display at the National Museum of Scotland.
0:02:25 > 0:02:28There was 103 metal detectorists.
0:02:28 > 0:02:32There was three fields and nothing had come up of note
0:02:32 > 0:02:37and all of a sudden I found a few bits of silver and I showed it to
0:02:37 > 0:02:40a friend who said that it was Roman.
0:02:40 > 0:02:45And after that we found another 200 pieces on the first day.
0:02:45 > 0:02:47Now close your eyes and try to imagine what
0:02:47 > 0:02:51you'll be doing in 2028.
0:02:51 > 0:02:54Well it might seem a very long way away but that's when the Olympic
0:02:54 > 0:02:58and Paralympic Games are set to be held in Los Angeles in the US.
0:02:58 > 0:03:02LA had originally wanted the 2024 Games, but that event is now set
0:03:02 > 0:03:05to take place in Paris.
0:03:05 > 0:03:08Next, it's been a pretty good week for British swimmer Adam Peaty.
0:03:08 > 0:03:11He came away with two golds, and a silver,
0:03:11 > 0:03:13at the World Swimming Championships in Budapest, in Hungary, where
0:03:13 > 0:03:14he even broke his own world record.
0:03:14 > 0:03:21Twice!
0:03:21 > 0:03:23Well, Adam will be dropping by to chat to Newsround tomorrow
0:03:23 > 0:03:25and we want your questions!
0:03:25 > 0:03:27So head to Newsround online and send them in.
0:03:27 > 0:03:29Having pets is brilliant, but they can be very expensive
0:03:29 > 0:03:30to look after and feed.
0:03:30 > 0:03:33Well, one woman has set up a unique food bank for animals.
0:03:33 > 0:03:37Whitney went to find out more.
0:03:40 > 0:03:41Hi.
0:03:41 > 0:03:43Hello.
0:03:43 > 0:03:45Say Newsround.
0:03:45 > 0:03:47Come on.
0:03:47 > 0:03:48Hi, Marjorie.
0:03:48 > 0:03:51At your rescue centre that you manage, as you can
0:03:51 > 0:03:52hear, a lot of the dogs.
0:03:52 > 0:03:54What exactly is a doggie food bank?
0:03:54 > 0:03:57Something that is relatively new.
0:03:57 > 0:04:00We've just started it and what we were finding is a lot
0:04:00 > 0:04:04of people were ringing the rescue asking us to take their pets.
0:04:04 > 0:04:08One of the reasons is sometimes they can't afford to keep them.
0:04:08 > 0:04:11So that's where the idea of the doggie food bank came.
0:04:11 > 0:04:15People donate dog food and so that when people are struggling,
0:04:15 > 0:04:20they come here and we give them the appropriate type of food
0:04:20 > 0:04:24for the breed of dog that they have, for the age of the dog.
0:04:24 > 0:04:25Thanks, Marjorie.
0:04:25 > 0:04:28This is Toto.
0:04:28 > 0:04:32I think I've made a new friend here!
0:04:32 > 0:04:34Now it's time for me to try and feed Toto.
0:04:34 > 0:04:38This is an example of dry food, isn't it, Marjorie?
0:04:38 > 0:04:41So how much food would a dog need?
0:04:41 > 0:04:44Normally a dog on dry kibble, someone Toto's size,
0:04:44 > 0:04:47twice a day as an adult dog.
0:04:47 > 0:04:49A puppy you're looking at feeding more often.
0:04:49 > 0:04:52Small quantities but more often.
0:04:52 > 0:04:55I think Toto needs some of this food because I can feel him climbing
0:04:55 > 0:04:57up my leg ready to eat something.
0:04:57 > 0:04:58He's definitely hungry.
0:04:58 > 0:04:59Is this his first feed today?
0:04:59 > 0:05:00No, he's always like this.
0:05:00 > 0:05:09Sounds a bit like me!
0:05:09 > 0:05:11Next, what's the best way to put out a fire?
0:05:11 > 0:05:12A hose?
0:05:12 > 0:05:13Bucket of water?
0:05:13 > 0:05:15Or how about using a speedboat?
0:05:15 > 0:05:17Well, that's exactly what this Canadian couple did
0:05:17 > 0:05:20when they spotted a wildfire on the river bank.
0:05:20 > 0:05:24After calling the fire brigade, they drove
0:05:24 > 0:05:26the speedboat close to shore spinning it so water
0:05:26 > 0:05:28splashed the flames.
0:05:28 > 0:05:31Next, forget all about British astronaut Tim Peake,
0:05:31 > 0:05:33because the coolest space dude nowadays, is this guy.
0:05:33 > 0:05:36That's right, it's a dog dressed as an astronaut!
0:05:36 > 0:05:38Lots of dogs were dressed up in snazzy costumes,
0:05:38 > 0:05:41from pirates to pom poms, to take part in this competition
0:05:41 > 0:05:45in El Salvador in Central America.
0:05:45 > 0:05:48That's all from me.
0:05:48 > 0:05:50Newsround's back at 4.20 this afternoon with Martin.
0:05:50 > 0:05:55Bye!
0:06:03 > 0:06:05I've got two favourite shows on CBBC.
