0:00:02 > 0:00:05Jenny here, live with your afternoon update.

0:00:05 > 0:00:07Splashing the cash - find out the big news

0:00:07 > 0:00:10as the transfer deadline looms.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13And the caped crusading superhero in Japan whose sole aim is just to

0:00:13 > 0:00:20make people happy.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23Top scientists are warning that we all need to eat less red meat

0:00:24 > 0:00:26and dairy products.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28But this isn't just to do with our health - they're saying

0:00:28 > 0:00:30it's to help the environment.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33A new report is the latest to claim the amount of meat we eat

0:00:33 > 0:00:40is speeding up climate change, as Martin's been finding out.

0:00:40 > 0:00:41Red meat.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44More and more people around the world are eating it, as the

0:00:44 > 0:00:47appetite for the likes of burgers and steak, grows around the world.

0:00:47 > 0:00:50But now scientists say we need to eat less of it,

0:00:50 > 0:00:53cutting back to just two portions a week to help save the planet.

0:00:53 > 0:00:56They say red meat production is speeding up climate change.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58So when the world wants more of it, the impact

0:00:58 > 0:01:02on the environment goes up too.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03And here's how it happens:

0:01:03 > 0:01:06Cows, the main source of red meat, need space to live and graze.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09To make room, forests full of trees, that help absorb carbon dioxide,

0:01:09 > 0:01:10are chopped down.

0:01:10 > 0:01:12So carbon dioxide levels go up.

0:01:12 > 0:01:13Cows also burp.

0:01:13 > 0:01:14A lot.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17And these burps contain methane, a gas that's even more harmful to the

0:01:17 > 0:01:24environment than carbon dioxide.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27As more and more people want to eat more and more meat we're seeing meat

0:01:27 > 0:01:32production at scales that require a lot of land.

0:01:32 > 0:01:33The problem is really the scale.

0:01:33 > 0:01:38Every year we eat more than 65 billion animals worldwide.

0:01:38 > 0:01:50So if we need to cut back on red meat, what's the alternative?

0:01:50 > 0:01:54Red meat is good for you in small quanties but hey, try chicken.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57The United Nations says that as the world's population grows, and

0:01:57 > 0:01:59developing countries get richer, the amount of meat produced around the

0:01:59 > 0:02:03world is going to rise by more than a half in the next forty years.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06This latest report says if we want to help the planet, we'll all

0:02:06 > 0:02:12need to cut back on this stuff .

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Next up, there are just a few hours left until football's transfer

0:02:15 > 0:02:17deadline, to add to the record-breaking amount already spent

0:02:17 > 0:02:20by English clubs this summer. Old Trafford has given us the big news

0:02:20 > 0:02:24of the day, with Colombian striker Rad-a-mel Falcao off to Manchester

0:02:26 > 0:02:30United have the option to buy him for good at the end of the season.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38to see who has ended up where!

0:02:38 > 0:02:42It's crunch time for Andy Murray at the US Open tennis tournament.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45He takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at 8:00pm

0:02:45 > 0:02:49our time, tonight, for a place in the quarterfinals.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51If he wins it'll be the first time Andy's beaten

0:02:51 > 0:02:55a player in the World's top 10, since he won Wimbledon last year.

0:02:55 > 0:03:00But he says his best tennis is yet to come.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02He is an exciting player to watch.

0:03:02 > 0:03:03Big serve.

0:03:03 > 0:03:06He moves extremely well.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08He is very explosive around the court

0:03:08 > 0:03:12and can generate a lot of power.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15In terms of how I am playing a think I am playing OK.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18I don't think I have played my best tennis yet.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22And I hope that is just around the corner.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25Next up, space fans, it's fair to say that our star has

0:03:25 > 0:03:26been pretty busy this week.

0:03:26 > 0:03:29There have been a number of eruptions on the surface

0:03:29 > 0:03:31of the sun in the past few days.

0:03:31 > 0:03:33Solar flares can cause disruption to satellites,

0:03:33 > 0:03:36power grids and even air travel.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40But experts say these latest flares aren't aimed in Earth's direction,

0:03:40 > 0:03:44so for now, we can just enjoy the show.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47And it's by far the most popular page on our website right now:
