:00:14. > :00:18.Hi guys. It's 1st November. Nel and Joe here with Newsround. Keep

:00:18. > :00:21.watching for this: Pricey pets. We report on animals being abandoned

:00:21. > :00:26.because they cost too much. The race to be America's next

:00:26. > :00:29.President is back on. And we have had loads of your

:00:29. > :00:39.Hallowe'en pictures. Stay tuned to see whether you made it into our

:00:39. > :00:48.

:00:48. > :00:52.First, we love our pets, but the cost of looking after them could be

:00:52. > :00:55.leading more people to abandon them. Animal charity the RSPCA say

:00:55. > :00:58.they've seen a big increase in the number of animals being handed in.

:00:58. > :01:01.They reckon the cost of keeping pets is getting too high for many

:01:01. > :01:06.families. So I've been finding out more about

:01:06. > :01:12.what the charity is calling an animal crisis.

:01:12. > :01:16.Pets in cages, it's a sight no one likes to see. According to the

:01:16. > :01:22.RSPCA it's one that's becoming more and more common in Britain today.

:01:22. > :01:25.Last year, more than 40,000 animals were handed in to the charity's

:01:25. > :01:31.rescue centres. That's almost 16,000 more abandoned pets than

:01:31. > :01:36.five years ago. On top of that, the charity says not enough people are

:01:36. > :01:40.coming forward to adopt animals, so their centres are becoming really

:01:40. > :01:45.full. These dogs are some of the lucky

:01:45. > :01:48.ones. Although they had to be rescued by the RSPCA they've now

:01:48. > :01:55.new owners and new homes. Today they're at this clinic to get

:01:55. > :02:00.treated by vets. I wanted to give another dog a chance. I didn't want

:02:00. > :02:03.a pedigree dog. He is a soft, lovely little dog. I would adopt

:02:03. > :02:07.another dog again. What should people be thinking about before

:02:07. > :02:10.they come to a centre like this and adopt an animal? They really need

:02:10. > :02:15.to think hard on a number of levels. Can they afford it, feed that dog

:02:15. > :02:20.for up to 15 years or that cat? Think really hard before taking on

:02:21. > :02:25.a pet. Have you got the time and commitment? Having a pet is sa

:02:25. > :02:31.privilege, it's not a right. how much can owning a dog cost?

:02:31. > :02:36.Over a year a tin of dog food a day comes to nearly 300. What about

:02:36. > :02:40.dried food? That's 180. Things like the vet bills, insurance,

:02:40. > :02:50.boarding kennels, buying things like leads and bedding, it could

:02:50. > :02:53.

:02:53. > :02:58.come to a total of 820 a year. It's a lot of money but the RSPCA

:02:58. > :03:04.say they desperately need people to come forward. They may have to

:03:04. > :03:07.start turning animals away if the situation doesn't change soon.

:03:07. > :03:10.There are just five days to go until Americans vote on who they

:03:10. > :03:14.want to be their next President. The man who's already doing the job

:03:14. > :03:17.- Barack Obama - or Mitt Romney? This week should have been one of

:03:17. > :03:20.the fiercest of the campaign as both candidates try to convince the

:03:20. > :03:23.public to vote for them. But then this happened - Superstorm Sandy,

:03:23. > :03:27.and all campaigning was put on hold. So what difference has it made?

:03:27. > :03:34.For weeks it's been rally after rally, speech after speech, from

:03:34. > :03:41.the two men competing for America's top job.

:03:41. > :03:46.But when Sandy struck, America's East Coast came to a standstill and

:03:46. > :03:48.so did the campaigning. More than 70 people died and homes were left

:03:48. > :03:52.without electricity. President Obama was quick to respond. I want

:03:53. > :03:57.to you cut through Red Cape. I want you to cut through bureaucracy.

:03:57. > :04:02.There's no excuse for inaction. the damage became clear, he visited

:04:02. > :04:07.the worst affected areas to show his support. He wasn't campaigning

:04:07. > :04:11.but he was on TV a lot. We are here for you. We will not forget. We

:04:11. > :04:16.will follow up to make sure that you get all the help that you need.

:04:16. > :04:20.He's even had praise from the most unlikely of people, the New Jersey

:04:20. > :04:23.Governor and member of Obama's rival party, the Republicans.

:04:23. > :04:26.been a great working relationship to make sure that we are doing the

:04:27. > :04:30.jobs that people elected us to do. Eight out of ten Americans think

:04:30. > :04:34.Obama has dealt with the crisis well. Has all of this made a

:04:34. > :04:37.difference? It's an opportunity for President Obama to show his

:04:37. > :04:41.presidential leadership, to show that he belongs in the White House,

:04:41. > :04:46.that he is able to handle the challenges of being President. In

:04:46. > :04:49.that respect, it certainly is, it can be a positive for him. Mitt

:04:49. > :04:55.Romney's been trying to do his bit, too. On Tuesday, he turned a

:04:55. > :04:58.campaign event in Ohio into a food bank for victims.

:04:58. > :05:02.Campaigning is now back in full swing. Many states always vote the

:05:02. > :05:05.same way but these states in yellow are the ones which are undecided.

:05:06. > :05:12.They're the areas Obama and Romney need to win. That's why the

:05:12. > :05:18.President is heading to Wisconsin, Nevada and Colorado and Mitt Romney

:05:18. > :05:23.is in shreurg -- Virginia and Florida. The race is neck and neck.

:05:23. > :05:30.Obama will be hoping the way he has dealt with Sandy has given him the

:05:30. > :05:34.boost he needs. Showbiz news.

:05:34. > :05:37.Now, we've seen celebs battle it out on the dance floor in Strictly,

:05:37. > :05:40.but how do you think they'd do on a diving board? Olympic diver Tom

:05:40. > :05:43.Daley is set to host a new TV show called Splash. Celebrity

:05:43. > :05:46.contestants will be coached by top divers, who will then have to show

:05:46. > :05:48.off their new diving skills in front of a live audience!

:05:48. > :05:51.Can they really do that?! That looks tough.

:05:51. > :05:53.Now ,safety briefings on aeroplanes. Be honest, Nel, do you really pay

:05:53. > :05:59.attention to them? Hmmmm, sometimes! Well, if you like your

:05:59. > :06:01.movies - this will make you listen. Please power off all electronic

:06:01. > :06:04.devices. Recognise these guys? The evil

:06:04. > :06:10.Sauron there with a grumpy orc and dwarf. And Gandalf the Grey makes

:06:10. > :06:14.an appearance. They're all from next month's movie The Hobbit. It's

:06:14. > :06:18.been made by a New Zealand airline all for a bit of fun but it would

:06:18. > :06:21.definitely make me pay attention! Afghanistan has undergone a lot of

:06:21. > :06:25.changes in recent years, especially when it comes to giving more rights

:06:25. > :06:28.to girls and women. But one women who was forced to

:06:28. > :06:35.leave the country when she was young has found a new way to give

:06:35. > :06:39.girls a voice, as Hayley's been finding out.

:06:39. > :06:45.Dizzee Rascal, Jay-Z, all popstars famous for rapping about their

:06:45. > :06:51.childhoods in cities they grew up And now a young woman from

:06:51. > :06:55.Afghanistan is doing the same. She has become the country's most

:06:55. > :06:59.female rapper with a song called Our Neighbours. She raps about the

:06:59. > :07:04.struggles of fleeing her country and growing up as a refugee in Iran

:07:04. > :07:07.and Pakistan. Her achievement is even more remarkable considering

:07:07. > :07:12.the Taliban who used to control the country banned music and until

:07:12. > :07:17.recently girls were stopped from going to school. TRANSLATION:

:07:17. > :07:21.I realised I could share my feelings with people by singing rap.

:07:21. > :07:26.I tell people how I was living as a refugee and I can tell sad stories

:07:26. > :07:31.in a peaceful way by rapping. I asked my father's permission before

:07:31. > :07:34.and he said yes. She's so good she's been toured by one of the top

:07:34. > :07:38.musicians in the country. Music has improved a lot in Afghanistan and

:07:38. > :07:42.this young generation has the talent. They want to tell people

:07:42. > :07:48.they're not extremists. They're not the Taliban. They want to help

:07:48. > :07:53.change this country. Although not everyone is happy

:07:53. > :07:56.about what she's doing, she hopes to use her musical success to

:07:56. > :08:00.support her family who returned to Afghanistan seven years ago without

:08:00. > :08:04.any money. Now she wants to set up the first

:08:04. > :08:13.all-girl rap band in the country and hopes her songs will inspire

:08:13. > :08:16.other Afghan girls to join her. Cool girl, isn't she? Yeah!

:08:16. > :08:20.Now was your Hallowe'en night full of tricks or treats? Loads of you

:08:20. > :08:23.have sent us pictures of your scary costumes and it looks like you had

:08:23. > :08:25.a spectacularly spooky night! Finn, Paddy and Erin look like a

:08:25. > :08:31.frightful bunch with their pumpkins!

:08:31. > :08:41.Harry's unzipped zombie face paint is truly terrifying. And eight-

:08:41. > :08:44.year-old Sanyu-Jane scared everyone at her Hallowe'en party! And Sol

:08:44. > :08:48.lost his head in all the excitement! And Ross and Joel gave

:08:48. > :08:54.their neighbours a fright! If they came to my house Wye give them
