:00:35. > :00:38.This is what happens when you come to a school obsessed by reading.

:00:39. > :00:44.They entered a competition for World Book Day and they don't

:00:45. > :00:50.So, Library Squad, I've got a little bit of a surprise for you.

:00:51. > :00:52.I have a special friend with me and she's got

:00:53. > :00:56.something to tell you guys. Shall I bring her in?

:00:57. > :00:59.All: Yes. Yes, so, Kirsten, come in.

:01:00. > :01:02.Hi, everybody, I'm Kirsten, I'm the director of World Book Day.

:01:03. > :01:04.I've got some brilliant news for the Library Squad.

:01:05. > :01:12.Oh, my god. How amazing is that?

:01:13. > :01:17.I've got one more crafty surprise for this lucky bunch.

:01:18. > :01:22.We've actually got their prize with us so close your eyes, no peeking.

:01:23. > :01:31.Do you want to have a look? Wow!

:01:32. > :01:37.It's just...speechless because we probably didn't think

:01:38. > :01:42.we were going to win. We probably forgot about it.

:01:43. > :01:45.Amazing. Lost for words.

:01:46. > :01:48.I feel accomplished but I feel accomplished for everybody else,

:01:49. > :01:53.like for teamwork, to win this ?5,000 of books is just amazing.

:01:57. > :02:02.It's just like, there must be millions of books here.

:02:03. > :02:09.I think it will mean a lot to the school because all of our

:02:10. > :02:12.school loves to read and with the help of the Library Squad

:02:13. > :02:15.and Mr Shepperton who runs it, it'll mean a lot to all

:02:16. > :02:21.And Martin has been catching up with the Library Squad

:02:22. > :02:28.Good morning, everyone! Happy World Book Day!

:02:29. > :02:33.Yes, it's been 20 years since World Book Day started

:02:34. > :02:36.and the idea was to get young kids involved in reading and enjoying

:02:37. > :02:39.books and I tell you what, these guys know how to celebrate

:02:40. > :02:42.World Book Day in style. Look at some of these costumes.

:02:43. > :02:47.Hannah, who are you dressed as today?

:02:48. > :02:49.I'm Alice from Alice in Wonderland. Of course.

:02:50. > :02:52.Looking great. Trudy, who are you dressed as?

:02:53. > :02:55.The White Witch from Narnia. Excellent.

:02:56. > :02:58.Now, it's a really exciting day for this school because today

:02:59. > :03:00.is the unveiling of the brand-new library, filled with ?5,000 worth

:03:01. > :03:03.of new books because they won the World Book Day competition.

:03:04. > :03:06.Young kids will be celebrating World Book Day all over the country

:03:07. > :03:08.just like this and these guys have got a pretty amazing day

:03:09. > :03:11.at school so I'm going to let them get on with it.

:03:12. > :03:20.More book news for you now - it's the 17th year of

:03:21. > :03:27.Every year they look for the best new children's books of the last 12

:03:28. > :03:29.months, and today we're pretty excited to be able

:03:30. > :03:38.This year's Best Story goes to Podkin One-Ear.

:03:39. > :03:40.And this year's Best Book with Facts is won by Survivors.

:03:41. > :03:43.We're very happy to have Kieran Larwood, author

:03:44. > :03:46.of Podkin One-Ear and David Long and Kerry

:03:47. > :03:48.Hyndman who are author and illustrator of Survivors,

:03:49. > :03:55.Can you tell us a little bit about your books?

:03:56. > :04:07.Podkin One-Ear is a story about rabbits and adventure and rescue.

:04:08. > :04:11.Survivors is several real life adventure stories over the past few

:04:12. > :04:12.years of people who have faced incredible danger and come through.

:04:13. > :04:14.I illustrated the stories. Kieran - where did you get

:04:15. > :04:27.the ideas for your stories? Uihlein it all started out with some

:04:28. > :04:38.sketches I did of rabbits. I've just finished writing the second book.

:04:39. > :04:42.What is your favourite survival story? The girl who fell from the

:04:43. > :04:47.plane when it blew up in midair. I remember reading it when I was 11

:04:48. > :04:52.and it was remembering that story that persuaded me to write this

:04:53. > :04:59.book. You have a funny story about writing one of the other ones? I'm

:05:00. > :05:08.quite claustrophobic and writing about that I found too realistic.

:05:09. > :05:13.Kerry - what difference do pictures make to a book?

:05:14. > :05:18.I think they really help to bring these stories to life and help to

:05:19. > :05:20.imagine what it was like to be there.

:05:21. > :05:24.This award is voted for by kids - what does it mean to know

:05:25. > :05:33.Incredible because that is who the book is for. It's the best thing

:05:34. > :05:37.because let's is now we're doing something right. We write the books

:05:38. > :05:42.for children and so we know we have hit the spot. It's nice to know they

:05:43. > :05:47.like the pictures and the words and the whole package meant something to

:05:48. > :05:49.them. It's been brilliant to have union work on news round.
