0:03:00 > 0:03:03And he is aiming to return for the London Anniversary

0:03:03 > 0:03:06Games later this month.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08Now, you might have seen some of these guys

0:03:08 > 0:03:09on the streets yesterday.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Hundreds of people dressed as World War One soldiers walked

0:03:12 > 0:03:15through cities around the country.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18It was to get people to remember the sacrifices made 100 years ago

0:03:18 > 0:03:20in the battle of the Somme.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23The actors didn't speak, but they handed out cards with names

0:03:23 > 0:03:27of the soldiers who died.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Next, to this nurse, Mary Seacole.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32She was seen as a hero during a war which happened more

0:03:32 > 0:03:35than 150 years ago.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37It was called the Crimean, and claimed the lives

0:03:37 > 0:03:39of 25,000 British soldiers.

0:03:39 > 0:03:42Now she's been given a statue - the first one in the UK

0:03:42 > 0:03:43dedicated to a black woman.

0:03:43 > 0:03:49I've been looking into it.

0:03:49 > 0:03:51This is the place in London where people who fought and helped

0:03:51 > 0:03:55in the Crimean War are remembered.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57For a long time, people have been arguing that a nurse called

0:03:57 > 0:04:00Mary Seacole should be remembered somewhere, too.

0:04:00 > 0:04:0612 years later, and she's been given a statue.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08It will be outside St Thomas's Hospital and stand

0:04:08 > 0:04:09at three metres tall.

0:04:09 > 0:04:11Children's author Malorie Blackman was one of the people

0:04:11 > 0:04:13who campaigned for it.

0:04:13 > 0:04:15If anyone deserves a statue, it's Mary Seacole.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19She was way ahead of her time.

0:04:19 > 0:04:21She was a healer, she was a businesswoman,

0:04:21 > 0:04:22she was a traveller.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25But she was really rare for a woman in Victorian times.

0:04:25 > 0:04:26But not everyone is happy about it.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29Some people think Mary's statue shouldn't be in front of a hospital,

0:04:29 > 0:04:31because she wasn't a trained nurse.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34And they also believe that overshadows the achievements

0:04:34 > 0:04:37of another famous figure, called Florence Nightingale.

0:04:37 > 0:04:41But Malorie thinks Mary Seacole is really important

0:04:41 > 0:04:46to British history.

0:04:46 > 0:04:47People like Mary Seacole and Olaudah Equiano

0:04:47 > 0:04:51and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor etc, black Britons, who have been written

0:04:51 > 0:04:53out of the history books, I think it's wonderful

0:04:53 > 0:04:56that we are now beginning to acknowledge their achievements.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58And it also shows that, actually, people of colour

0:04:58 > 0:04:59are part and parcel of Britain's history.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02And that history belongs to everybody.

0:05:02 > 0:05:06Now that there is a statue for her, it is hoped that more people

0:05:06 > 0:05:09will get the chance to reflect and remember the life and times

0:05:09 > 0:05:11of Mary Seacole.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14One of Scotland's most famous golf clubs now allows women members.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17Royal Troon made the decision last night.

0:05:17 > 0:05:19It's the first time women have been allowed to join,

0:05:19 > 0:05:26since the club opened more than 100 years ago.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28Last up today, a cheeky orangutan tried to escape from a zoo

0:05:28 > 0:05:29in Florida in the US.

0:05:29 > 0:05:30in Florida in the US.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33She decided to jump out and have a bit of a walk.

0:05:33 > 0:05:38The keepers managed to get her back into her habitat safely.
