:00:34. > :00:45.Ricky's at a school in Sale to see what's happening.

:00:46. > :00:51.Good morning. What an exciting day. I am at a school in Manchester,

:00:52. > :00:55.where there are hundreds of children dressed up as their favourite

:00:56. > :01:01.characters from their favourite books. It is World Book Day, a day

:01:02. > :01:05.to celebrate illustrators, writers and reading to do with the books.

:01:06. > :01:08.These guys are dressed up as their favourite characters. They look

:01:09. > :01:14.fantastic. There are more than 100 countries in the world with kids

:01:15. > :01:22.dressing up to celebrate books. Joel, who are you? I am Harry

:01:23. > :01:33.Potter. You're looking very fetching. Is it your favourite book?

:01:34. > :01:45.Yes. I miss crunch bowl. Who chose the outfit? Me and my mum. I am from

:01:46. > :01:54.Charles Dickens. I wanted to show you will. Look at will. Who do?

:01:55. > :02:02.Grandpa 's great escape. I made this with my dad. I'm going to talk to

:02:03. > :02:06.some teachers. They are dressed up. Mrs Daniels, come over here. You

:02:07. > :02:15.must be excited to see everyone like this. We have had an amazing week,

:02:16. > :02:23.we had David Webb signing books. It has been really good. There is a

:02:24. > :02:29.dinosaur. Who are you? Ellie. I am from Jurassic world. Gangster

:02:30. > :02:35.granny, come over here. This is one of my favourites. Will the kids take

:02:36. > :02:45.the Mickey out of you today? I hope so! We will see these guys at

:02:46. > :02:48.4:20pm. Thank you, Ricky. Loving all those guys dressed up.

:02:49. > :02:50.Lots of you have already been in touch.

:02:51. > :02:52.Hollie and Eden are Little Red Riding Hood and Clark Kent.

:02:53. > :02:55.Elle from Lincoln is dressing up as Hetty Feather.

:02:56. > :02:57.Harry from Nottingham is dressed up as Gideon from Hetty Feather.

:02:58. > :03:00.And Maisie, Josh and Hollie from Devon in their brilliant

:03:01. > :03:09.We're going book-tastic on Newsround today because aside from it being

:03:10. > :03:11.World Book Day today, it's also the Blue Peter Book Awards.

:03:12. > :03:15.Best Story Book went to The Nowehere Emporium

:03:16. > :03:17.and The Epic Book of Epicness won Best Book with Facts.

:03:18. > :03:19.And the two winning authors Ross MacKenzie and Adam

:03:20. > :03:38.This is so exciting. How do you feel about getting this on? Delighted. I

:03:39. > :03:44.can't quite believe it. Any award is nice but to have one voted for by

:03:45. > :03:47.kids is amazing. And that is the special thing. The judges helped

:03:48. > :03:49.whittle it down but it was ultimately children who gave you

:03:50. > :03:55.dishonour. Does that make it more special? Absolutely. I've got kids

:03:56. > :03:59.myself and I know they just tell the truth. They are honest about what

:04:00. > :04:05.they like. The fact that they voted for it is just incredible. Such an

:04:06. > :04:12.honour. Wrote it for the kids so for them to say, it is good, is the best

:04:13. > :04:19.pat on the back. What is your best epic fact? I think I like the

:04:20. > :04:30.library book that was 288 years overdue. I love that. A big fine? It

:04:31. > :04:37.would have been about ?10,000. Ross, for you, what makes a good story and

:04:38. > :04:41.keeps children reading? For a kids book, it is important to remember

:04:42. > :04:47.what it felt like to be that age, to be 80 years old and remember how the

:04:48. > :04:51.world was an unfair place ruled by adults. To really channel that inner

:04:52. > :04:59.child and if you can do that, you're halfway to writing a good book for

:05:00. > :05:03.kids. What is the book about? It is about a magic shop, an enchanted

:05:04. > :05:08.shop, which can appear anywhere at any time. If you walk through the

:05:09. > :05:13.shop, the red curtain at the back of the shop, you find a labyrinth of

:05:14. > :05:19.wonders, where anything can happen. And your book is just full of facts.

:05:20. > :05:23.Kids love that type of thing. Yes, I tried to fill it with as many

:05:24. > :05:29.bizarre and random facts as possible. Loads of great visuals and

:05:30. > :05:38.cartoons. Which characters would you like to dress up as? I chose

:05:39. > :05:44.Professor brainstorm. I was the other father from correlating.

:05:45. > :05:46.Everyone can get into World Book Day. Thank you for joining us.

:05:47. > :05:48.Remember, we'd love to see pictures of you in your

:05:49. > :05:52.Head online and let us know what you're doing to celebrate.

:05:53. > :05:56.You can keep up to date with all of the rest of the day's

:05:57. > :06:00.That's all from me, Newsround's back today at 4:20pm.
