:00:23. > :00:28.Hello! You're live at five with Newsround. I'm Nel and He's Ricky.

:00:28. > :00:32.We have a cracker of a show for you today, including: The UK's first

:00:32. > :00:37.ever operation in 3D. And you put the stars of Pirates

:00:37. > :00:39.through their paces. But first to the weather. This time

:00:39. > :00:46.last week we were enjoying bright sunshine and record temperatures in

:00:46. > :00:48.places like Aberdeen. But it's gone from sun to snow! Today, Scotland

:00:48. > :00:52.is experiencing freezing temperatures, sleet and ice. Nearly

:00:52. > :00:55.25cm of the white stuff has fallen overnight. 3,000 homes are without

:00:55. > :00:57.electircity, and nine people, including six teenagers, had to be

:00:57. > :01:00.rescued in the Cairngorms after they got stranded during the sudden

:01:00. > :01:10.change in temperature. We're told temperatures might be a bit more

:01:10. > :01:10.

:01:10. > :01:14.summery by the weekend. Here's hoping.

:01:14. > :01:17.The next time you get your pocket money, you may want to take a

:01:17. > :01:20.closer look to make sure it's real, because the number of dodgy 1

:01:20. > :01:27.coins has doubled in the past ten years. There are nearly 44 million

:01:27. > :01:31.fakes out there now, so I've been to find out more. Don't you just

:01:31. > :01:40.hate it when you're dying for a snack and the machine won't take

:01:40. > :01:45.your money? It may be because the 1 coin you put in was a fake. In

:01:45. > :01:48.the last nine months the number of fake 1 coins making their way into

:01:48. > :01:54.tillsers purses and piggy banks in the UK has gone up by 3 million.

:01:54. > :02:02.There are now 44 million 1 coins out there that aren't real. That's

:02:02. > :02:07.3 in every 100. It is easier for shopkeepers to spot a fake note.

:02:07. > :02:13.They can use a special pen or check for a watermark. But fake 1 coins

:02:13. > :02:17.are harder to spot. See if the picture matchs the date it was made

:02:17. > :02:22.and check the markings around the edge. The Royal Mint are worried,

:02:22. > :02:26.because thin crease could lead to them having to scrap the old 1

:02:26. > :02:29.coins and reissue new once. It is bad news for the Government,

:02:29. > :02:33.because the Government has to replace the money that's fake.

:02:33. > :02:37.Companies don't get as much money as they expected. And it is bad

:02:37. > :02:45.news for people who are caught out. They don't have as much money to

:02:45. > :02:50.spend. The Royal Mint says if you find a fake 1 coin take it to your

:02:50. > :02:56.police station. This one is definitely a fake!

:02:56. > :03:00.But it sure tastes good. LOL indeed. Tasty money.

:03:00. > :03:03.Some deadly dinosaur news next. One of the world's top dino experts

:03:03. > :03:05.says these fearsome fellas might have lived in water rather than

:03:06. > :03:08.roaming Earth. Scientists now think their tails were so heavy they

:03:08. > :03:11.could be supported only in lakes and seas.

:03:11. > :03:14.Next, you've definitely heard of 3D films, but what about 3D

:03:14. > :03:17.operations? Surgeons in Manchester have carried out the first UK

:03:17. > :03:22.procedure using the technology. The special glasses allow them to see

:03:22. > :03:32.what they're doing in 3D on a big screen. They say it will help them

:03:32. > :03:36.cause less damage and be more accurate. All this week we are

:03:36. > :03:40.celebrating Newsround's 40 th birthday by looking back at what

:03:40. > :03:50.made the news from the different decades. Today I looked at my era,

:03:50. > :03:52.

:03:52. > :03:56.Hi everyone I'm Ricky and welcome to a special Newsround. All this

:03:56. > :04:00.week we are celebrating the programme's 40th birthday by

:04:00. > :04:03.looking at what's changed while we've been on the telly. Today I've

:04:03. > :04:08.come to the national media museum in Bradford to look at the decade

:04:08. > :04:15.which brought tech knoll into our homes. I'm talking about personal

:04:15. > :04:20.computers, video games and giant mobile phones. Welcome to the '80s.

:04:20. > :04:24.Hello again... Hello again... is what Newsround looked like back

:04:24. > :04:30.then. We've had lots of letters asking twhot is for. One of the big

:04:30. > :04:33.stories we covered was the Falklands. They lie 8,000 mile in

:04:33. > :04:38.the South Atlantic. The Falklands islands have been under British

:04:38. > :04:45.control since the 1830s. Argentina in South America has long said the

:04:45. > :04:49.islands should belong to them, and on 2nd April 1982 they invaded.

:04:50. > :04:55.British Prime Minister matcher reacted quickly, sending 28,000

:04:55. > :05:05.troops and more than 100 ships to defend them. On 14th June, two

:05:05. > :05:06.

:05:06. > :05:14.months after the invasion, Argentina surrendered. 255

:05:14. > :05:18.servicemen lost their lives as well as Argentinians and islanders. The

:05:18. > :05:21.UK Government says as long as the islanders want to remain British

:05:21. > :05:25.they will continue to be looked after. Over the year this is

:05:25. > :05:29.programme has tried to keep you informed with all of the big

:05:29. > :05:36.stories wherever they are happening. But it is not just the big events

:05:36. > :05:44.we report on. When we come across stories that are out of the

:05:44. > :05:53.ordinary we bring them to you. Limbo roller skating.

:05:53. > :06:00.This is Humphrey the elephant seal. Every night this week we'll be

:06:00. > :06:06.looking back at what else has changed, so tune in at 6.55pm on

:06:06. > :06:11.CBBC. Tune in to our special bulletin at

:06:11. > :06:18.6.55. And it is on the Newsround website.

:06:18. > :06:21.One thing that's changed since the 1980s the way cartoons are made.

:06:21. > :06:26.Aardman Animations have made Pirates, An Adventure With

:06:26. > :06:30.Scientists. One younger film can gore had an invention of his own

:06:30. > :06:40.when he quizzed the star and the director for the charity Film Club.

:06:40. > :06:43.

:06:43. > :06:48.What's the most technically demanding part of the film?

:06:48. > :06:54.suppose putting a model ship which is a huge thing about five metres

:06:54. > :06:58.long, and putting it into a computer-generated sea. That was a

:06:58. > :07:07.huge technical achievement. I had a team working on that for probably a

:07:07. > :07:12.year. Some of you are just fished dressed up in a hat. How do you get

:07:12. > :07:17.into your character? I looked at him and the more I looked at him I

:07:17. > :07:22.thought the centre of his character was his beard. If I thought

:07:22. > :07:28.beautiful beard, I'm magnificent, I became him. And he's got a stupid

:07:28. > :07:33.face. Stupid and beardy. That looked like a lot of fun.

:07:33. > :07:34.Before you see the movie check out the website for Joe's review of

:07:34. > :07:38.Pirates, An Adventure With Scientists.

:07:38. > :07:44.Finally, hitting the water would be the last thing you wanted to do if

:07:44. > :07:47.you are playing golf, but not if you are John Senden. He wowed

:07:47. > :07:51.audiences at the American masters by skimming the ball across the
