:01:53. > :01:56.Pretty soon, he's going to be up on stage at the front

:01:57. > :01:57.of this Symphony Orchestra, leading them through

:01:58. > :01:59.a performance of an operetta called Die Fledermaus.

:02:00. > :02:02.Tell me a little bit about why you've decided to do conducting.

:02:03. > :02:04.At the start I never really wanted to start conducting,

:02:05. > :02:08.because a few years back my music teacher, Derek, told me to learn

:02:09. > :02:10.this conducting piece, Die Fledermaus, the one I'm playing

:02:11. > :02:14.But at the time I wasn't able to conduct this

:02:15. > :02:18.This is a really important rehearsal for Matthew.

:02:19. > :02:20.It's one of the last chances for the players

:02:21. > :02:22.to get everything right before their massive performance.

:02:23. > :02:24.There are 75 players in the orchestra, and it's his job

:02:25. > :02:27.to lead them, keeping them all in time with each other

:02:28. > :02:30.and checking that the audience can hear all the different parts.

:02:31. > :02:32.My job with the orchestra is keeping time, making sure they're

:02:33. > :02:36.I'm just controlling how they play, I can control if they play

:02:37. > :02:40.What is it like to be in control of all of those adults?

:02:41. > :02:42.It's very difficult, because, as a kid, usually I don't

:02:43. > :02:44.really control them, they control me.

:02:45. > :02:47.But when I'm playing the song, I have to tell them what to do,

:02:48. > :02:50.and what to do when they start and when they finish.

:02:51. > :02:52.He's better than some adult conductors that I've played

:02:53. > :02:56.You have to put the stick higher so they see it,

:02:57. > :02:59.but you have to make sure they can see your stick because if they can't

:03:00. > :03:02.and they're not playing, they're just being really lazy.

:03:03. > :03:04.Well, it looks like you've got your work cut out, Matthew,

:03:05. > :03:08.Next, meet one of Africa's rising ballet stars.

:03:09. > :03:11.16 year old Joel grew up in a very poor area of Kenya's capital,

:03:12. > :03:13.Nairobi, before moving to the United States to train.

:03:14. > :03:15.Now, he's returned home to share the beauty of ballet.

:03:16. > :03:20.Three years ago I studied ballet here. It was a programme by a girl

:03:21. > :03:23.called Annabel, she wanted a couple of dancers, so I auditioned and I

:03:24. > :03:29.got in and that's when everything changed from there. My name is Joe

:03:30. > :03:37.Keogh court and I'm a ballet dancer. -- Joel Campbell

:03:38. > :03:49.Joel Kioko. I asked if you wanted to dance as a career. My friends

:03:50. > :03:54.sometimes teased me. Your self-esteem goes down but I didn't

:03:55. > :04:04.listen to them that much, I just let it all pass. When you hear ballet,

:04:05. > :04:07.the one thing you think about is people are wearing tutus and tights

:04:08. > :04:13.but a lot of that there is a lot of work, a lot of time management which

:04:14. > :04:18.you have to make for yourself and a lot of sacrifices, I don't have a

:04:19. > :04:22.normal teenage life. Ten years from now -- from now, if things have

:04:23. > :04:26.worked out well, I will come back and open a small studio and get kids

:04:27. > :04:34.from the streets and the slums that I know and come and teach them that

:04:35. > :04:39.people can have an opportunity. I'm very proud. Sometimes you feel like

:04:40. > :04:46.crying because of happiness. When I'm settled and in a company that I

:04:47. > :04:51.love, that's when I will truly have made it. I've been fighting for this

:04:52. > :04:56.the whole time, that is when I will take a breath and just relax. Very

:04:57. > :05:00.cool. That is all from the team today. Newsround back tomorrow

:05:01. > :05:02.morning with Ricky. Have a brilliant evening.
